Love My Liberty
My 2003 Liberty Limited is a great vehicle. Gets me any where I need to go on the snowy roads of Western Pennsylvania. I don;t have to worry about it. I trade a 1993 Cherokee Sport in on the Libery, and had no complaints about it. But the Liberty is a more cushy Jeep. I LOVE it.
Big disappointment
After a month of owning my brand new jeep liberty, I had to take it to the dealership to repair a transmission leak. The car looks good on the outside but was sluggish when driving on an incline and slow in accelerating. I expected to keep my new car for 10 years as I kept my previous car which was not a jeep for 13 years. Needless to say, I am deeply disappointed and would now like to trade my car after owning it for just a month.

It's a JEEP!
I've owned my Liberty for almost a year. I've towed a U-Haul trailer to Texas and it had awesome control. Granted, better fuel economy would be nice but It's a Jeep! If I were buying for mileage I would have looked for 26+ but I'll settle for 18-22. It climbs off road terrain like a goat, especially in low 4! So far, I haven't had any issues and I keep up on my maintenance. On the Hwy you have to put your foot into it to accelerate to pass, but that's only when I'm trying to prove something. All my friends like it but most importantly I do too!
Nice vehicle
Took the Liberty over Xterra at my wife's insistence and I am pleasantly surprised. Braking is excellent with 4 wheel disc and no ABS, handling is fine, interior controls took a while to get used to but all within eay reach and intuitive. Easily slips into and out of 4WD. Better than rated gas mileage - I did a 50+ mile commute on a snowy day in 4WD the whole way and go better than 19 mpg. My only complaint is the short seat and I'm only 5'10".
DON'T BUY THE JEEP LIBERTY
MULTIPLE BRAKE PROBLEMS, SEVERE GRINDING AND CLUNKING NOISES. IN AND OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS PROBLEM. SEVERAL DEALERSHIP VISITS "COULD NOT REPEAT NOISE". ENTIRE BRAKES REPLACED TWICE. NOW A STB HAS STATED THAT A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM WILL NECESSITATE ROTOR REPLACEMENT, WHEN THE PARTS COME IN, HA! ALSO, HAD THE TRANSMISSION SEAL REPLACED. I HAVE HEARD ABOUT THE BALL JOINT RECALL, BUT I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM JEEP CONCERNING THIS MATTER.
