Great SUV, but...
We intended to buy an older 4runner, but found that for the same money, could get the Liberty. Had 4K on it when we bought it. Loved it. It is a hoot to buzz around town and short trips. Not a long trip vehicle. It was set up as tow car when we bought it...it would be superb for that purpose. Has tow package, and tows our boat easily. Seats, even for for a short person like me, are a little short, but leather is broken in now, so more comfy. Kids in back seat can see out, a plus. Wish we could keep it, but must sell, mainly because need better mileage.
This vehicle is GREAT!!
This vehicle is great. The ride is great, layout and controls are great, especially the radio controls on back of steering wheel. No problems with vehicle--has 16,000+ miles. This is my first Jeep--went from Pathfinder LE to this and love it! Go USA!

Awesome rugged little beauty!
I just bought my 2003 Liberty Sport. So far, I have enjoyed driving it. For all those thinking of buying a liberty, I suggest getting the V6. This engine has a lot of power, even with a full load in the back, you don't feel it struggling. The 4WD system is very easy to use, very little effort to engage. The interior is great, the layout of the dashboard is simple and easy to use. The seats are firm and provide comfort and support. The exterior does a good job of showing it's ruggedness, whoever says this Jeep is cute deserves to be shot - go drive your weak CRV/RAV4.
I love my Jeep.
I'm a 70 year old woman, 5'3" tall, and this Jeep is the only SUV which doesn't feel too big or hard to get into and out of. My silver Jeep Liberty Ltd and two gorgeous Chrysler LeBaron convertibles have given me more fun to drive than any other of the innumerable vehicles I've driven throughout the years. And I absolutely love the attention my Jeep receives from young people. Next, I think I'll get a red hat to make driving my Jeep even more fun!
New owner
I just picked up my Liberty Renegade yesterday. I absolutely love the vehicle. The leather seats are very comfortable and the interior controls are logically arranged. The seating area is every bit as large as my Ford Explorer Sport was. The exterior appearance is aggressive, without being overboard like the Avalanche. My only complaint was the difficulty in locating a Renegade with the options I wanted. I was unable to find one with antilock brakes in the Austin area and had to travel to San Antonio to find one. It was worth the drive. The 75 mile drive back to Austin was an absolute pleasure.
Jeep: Everything else is a substitute.
This was not my first choice. My wife convinced me that anything other then a JEEP, as a 4x4, is nothing more then a substitute. SHE WAS RIGHT. This is a Truck. For those of you that want to drive a TALL car with 4x4 capabilities, try a RAV4. The Liberty is VALUE for the money. You get a Liberated "feeling" driving it. Hard to explain until you experience the JEEP heritage in your hands.
love hate relationship
our first suv. wife loves looks and handling of vechicle. horrible on gas, am getting 15-16 mpg mostly city. lack of storge and placement of window controls.
Jeep
Good buy for smaller SUV
Let's go Jeep'n
This is my second Jeep. The first was a '92 Cherokee. I've loved them both. The Liberty feels like a sports car, but jacked up with 4 wheel drive. The seats cradle me and the steering is sure. The engine isn't a supercharged V8, but it is quite capable of moving the little Jeep around.
Jeep Has Built A TRUE WINNER
I've had my Liberty for 6 weeks, and have already put 3,800 miles on it. I'm extremely impressed with the solid, durable build quality of this Jeep. It has a powerful V6 engine, and it is simply a joy to drive... It's a bit of a gas guzzler, but that's the trade-off for the superior suspension and durablilty. Don't expect a "car-like" drive out of the Liberty. However, I must say that it handles itself quite well when cruising at 80 on my long drive to work... We've owned Wranglers for a long time, and this is the first "non- Wrangler" Jeep that we've purchased. We couldn't be more pleased. GREAT JOB JEEP !!!
It is a GREAT Jeep
I had a '96 Grand Cherokee Limited. Ready to buy a new car....I wanted something a bit smaller but still with power. I drove the LandRover Freelander & the Ford Escape and decided I liked the Jeep Liberty the best. The ergonomics of the Jeep are much better than any others of it's size. The Power it has is great! It's a road hugger with weight so I feel very safe (unlike my friends Xterra which I feel like we are about to fall over when I ride in it) I drove the Liberty and loved it. It is not only hip but zippy and easy to maneuver around (much more so than my Grand Cherokee). I think that Jeep really did a great job with this Liberty.
SUV that ACTUALLY performs off road
One of the best SUV's I've ever driven. It handles on road well and off road even better. With no after market parts I've taken my Liberty far into the bushes and it handles mud pits with ease. When on pavement it drives nice, has good power and does everything an SUV should do on the road. Other SUV makers should take note. This is a true offroad vehicle unlike most SUV's in its class. If your a soccer mom I'm sure it would fill your needs as well. Nothing is more fun than driving downtown with my Jeep Liberty covered from top to bottom in mud after mudding and seeing all the looks you get from "city drivers". I have absolutely pounded on this Jeep and haven't had any breakdowns.
Love my Jeep
I owned a Wrangler and Cherokee prior to this Liberty and I am completely satisfied to this point. Fuel economy is horrible but I am trying a Mopar fuel body spacer and air intake system to help with this. I am driving this vehicle in Germany and it is wonderful on the narrow streets and pretty stable at high speeds on the autobahn. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone wanting an SUV but one small enough to drive like a car. The leather interior is wonderful and no complaints about workmanship to this point. I do wish however that American automobiles like this Liberty had a better re-sale value for future purchases.
Fun to drive
Like several of the reviewers I had some problem with the slickness during the rain. The answer is different tires. I got a set of Goodyear Fortera Triple Tred. Made all the diference in the world. Otherwise I am happy with this vehicle.
Another Great Creation From JEEP
WOW. I feel like Im a teenager again!
poor rear suspension
plenty of power from v6 but the goodyear wranglers that came on the liberty give very poor traction on anything but dry pavement. at about 8000 km. rear suspension started to bottom out even under light load by 10000km. it was so bad if you filled the gas tank it was enough to make it bottom out.
a little bigger but just as much fun
had a Wrangler for years. loved it but needed a skosh more room. Liberty fit the bill. it's quick, comfortable, cute and oh so easy to drive. love it..love it..love it too.
wow, i love the power and design
I test drove a Liberty Limited about 6 months ago and fell in love with it; so, when the time came to purchase I knew exactly what I wanted. Am impressed with the turning radius, the cargo space (roomier on the inside than it looks like from the outside), and the look of it -- is truly Jeep with sophistication. Love that on the weekends can take it camping and off road, then wash it up and out to dinner and downtown Chicago other times. Really impressed all the way around ... one minor flaw, the obvious; gas mileage is a little steep for a "compact" SUV. Jeep should be overall pleased with the product they have produced, I sure am!
excellent
wonderful vehicle, could get better gas mileage though
Liberty 4x4 Limited
I have owned my Liberty since April of 2007 (used of course). Purchased with about 51,000 miles. The only complaints that I have about it is that the stock tires on it are terrible even when the ground is just slightly wet. It is very dangerous and I think Chrysler shouldn't and should never again sell any of their cars with these tires. I'm having the tires replaced with Bridgestones, a much better tire than the Goodyears that come on it. In addition, when you are coming to a stop it is almost as if the car sputters or clunks I'm not too sure how to describe it. I'm thinking it is coming from the transmission and I hope this isn't going to turn into a problem. Overall a very stable vehicle.
love my liberty
Awesome both on and off road. Highly suggested. Service dept has been wonderful to deal with. No regrets. Love the car
Does What It Says
I live in the mountains and this car has performed well in the past year. Plenty of power when I need it and surprisingly I can brake well with it too. The only issue I had was a leak in the power-stearing fluid hose. It also use a little more storage space. But after a recent insurance revision, the car was rated impecable.
Love my Liberty
I test drove the top competeing model against this vehcile. Although it was a little bigger the ride and comfort was not nearly as good. I love this vehicle.
love this Jeep
Buy the Jeep...it's a good safe bet and cute as a button to boot.
I love it!
I have had Jeep jeep for 2 years and really love it. I didn't expect the gas mileage to be great and it is not. I love the interior; wish there was a bit more cargo space and the compartment space for the front is a bit small. Driving around town with 3 young kids is easy and running errands are no problem. Taking long trips are a bit more tricky since the cargo space is limited. We bought a roof top carrier to correct this problem and now long distance trips are a breeze! I would definitely recommend this Jeep Liberty to anyone looking for a small SUV. It is fun to drive and looks very sporty.
LOVE IT
I love this vehicle!
Do The Math...Buy it or Move On!
Drove it for two weeks before signing the check to determine if this is what I want to live in for the next 72 months. I love it. Not happy about fuel eco, but it helps keep the mileage down! Recommend it highly. Jeep NEEDs to standardize its amenities. Never did get the package I wanted, but I'm adding on and find it cheaper to do so post-sale.
Very Nice SUV to Drive
I have had the Jeep Liberty Limited for about two weeks. It is very much what I expected. It is very comfortable and the ride for this type of vehicle is very nice. The looks set it apart from the others in its class. The interior is a much better quality then that of the Ford Escape and the Hyundai. This is a must see car.
expectations fulfilled
automatic transmission is as smooth as any sedan I've driven (hope it stays that way); quick steering; firm and controlled ride - better ride on the pavement than expected. gas mileage might be better, but I don't expect that with 210 hp V6 and auto trans./4 wd- I drive all highway miles and have been avg. 20.5 miles a gallon on regular gas. suits me. I don't think of my Liberty as purely an SUV it's a JEEP sort of phenomenon. hehe. Oh by the way I'm 42.

so far so good
just recently purchased the freedom edition. Boy, does this thing look great, and it's so much fun to drive. Yes the window controls are in a poor location, but after a few days I hardly even noticed anymore. Seats are sporty looking and beautiful. Storage compartment is set way to far back and glove compartment is smallish, but these are such minor blemishes that i could care less. Pulls my jetski with no problems. Rear leg space is fine, as well as cargo space. The car has done nothing but impress me so far, and even is impressing my grumpy old man of a father, and that pretty much equals a five star rating then!
I looooove My Jeep!
I bought my Jeep two and a half years ago. I still love it as much today as the first day I owned it. It is very reliable and the gas mileage is really good (considering that it's an SUV). The mileage I get is about what was listed on the sticker. When I need another car, I'll probably buy another Liberty.
Excellent
Good, much more than I expected, better than I was thinking
SUV Like No Other
This SUV is perfect for the person who does it all! It tows my boat easily through the mountains, handles the snow better than any other I've experienced, and cruises the highway with the comfort of a sedan. The Liberty is the perfect compliment between the ruggedness of the Wrangler and the Luxury of the Grand Cherokee. After 13,000 miles in 7 months, I can honestly say I made the right decision in buying a Jeep Liberty!
My new car
I love this car. I love driving it. I love the look of it.
Best Vehicle I've Ever Had!
We sadly have to exchange our Jeep Liberty in for a more fuel efficient vehicle because we live about half an hour to 45 minutes away from work. Other than that reason alone, we would not be looking for a car. The Jeep Liberty has been the most fun and the most reliable vehicle I have ever driven.
03' Jeep Liberty rocks
After some extensive research of various models, my wife and I settled on the Liberty because of the price range and the power. We live in Colorado, and a little punch getting into the mountains and navigating the passes is a plus. I was really surprised with the amount of room in the back, me being about 6' I had a good 3" of head room and my legs werent crammed. We got the Sport Model with the "B" options package (AC, Power Windows, Locks, etc). Overall a good buy for someone who will use the power and offroad features of this car in addition to everyday use.
Let's roll
This is my second Jeep. All the things I liked about my old Jeep only got better. This is a fun vehicle, handles great ,responsive engine and decent mileage for a real suv.
Best of the best
Great car (SUV) The best SUV in it's class
My first vehical PURCHASE
This is my first vehicle purchase, after leasing a Ford Escort---followed by a Ford Explorer for 3 years. I had bad experiences with my first Jeep in 1990. My 2003 Liberty Limited is absolutely AWESOME!
don't buy a jeep
Liberty has got to be the worst riding vehicle I have ever owned. DEaler replaced front &rear springs & shocks after 8 months. Gas mileage sucked never got better then 16 mpg hwy. Had a fulsize extended cab 4x4 V8 that got 21 to 23 should have kept it.
Great Small Truck
Its great on the beach in sand, I have no problem towing a small boat anywhere. It handles much better on the road than reviews would lead you to believe.
Excellent!!
This vehicle is just all around awesome. I have the most fun driving my Liberty than any vehicle i have ever driven.
2003 Liberty Rocks!
One word can sum up my feelings on the 2003 Jeep Liberty. AWESOME. Never thought I would buy a SUV until I gave the Liberty a test drive. I was a Grandprix person. Atleast until I bought my Jeep. Handles great. Very driver friendly. I can't wait until the winter so that I can drive it in the snow.
Jeep Liberty-awesome!!
The 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport is definitely fun to drive and has great acceleration. While it exterior appears smaller than the Jeep Cherokee Sport, the Jeep Liberty's interior is definitely more spacious (head/leg/shoulder room). We've test drove a number of vehicles in this class, but the Jeep Liberty was hands down the best. Virtually everyday, we - receive compliments about the exterior design and how sharp the interior looks.
weak Jeep
While it has decent power, it gets HORRIBLE mpg. Not very spacious. Feels unstable in quick swerves to avoid traffic/animals. Not a true Jeep.
White Hot 2003 Liberty Limited 4WD
I've had my Liberty Limited 4WD for three weeks now and I love it. Although the gas mileage is not the greatest, I hate having to get out of it. I was told that Jeeps had notoriously hard rides, but I can't say the same. The handling and ride have been very smooth. Overall, Jeep has made a very attractive vehichle both inside and out.
the freedom of my jeep liberty
i love my jeep! I had a honda for 10years! I wanted a suv that was affordable fun to drive, and not a wimpy 4cylinder! I decided to go with the jeep because it was just the right size for me! NOT HUGE NOT TOO SMALL!
Transmission Problems?
I really like the design of the Liberty but the seats are not as comfortable as expected and the gas mileage is not very good either. I had some major brake noise for the first few months and now at three years, I am having some serious hard down-shifting going on. I have taken it into the dealer several times and they cannot find the problem and make me feel like I am going nuts but my friends and my boyfriend have driven it when it happens.
I luv my Liberty.
Didn't want to replace my wife's Sebring convertible. But this really fills the bill. Comfort, style, capability and fun.
