running renegade, if you feed it!
This Renegade is a great all around vehicle. If you feed it, it will run. It pulls a 6 by 12 trailer with big motorcycle no problems, both power and handling do it well.
Jeep Specifics
My 2002 ltd is quite masterful on sloppy roadways (mud, snow, rocks, debris in general) HOWEVER.. I would recommend purchasing and utilizing the "Full-Time" 4WD option in any rainy conditions. I have found the notable weight and high center-of-gravity can easily cause a slide on curves at "reasonable" speeds when in 2WD mode. My only other issue was at around 1800 miles a speed sensor fried and intermittently would totally screw up the transmissions functioning. This took 3 trips to a dealership and the involvement of a Chrysler Tech.(via phone) out of Mich. to run down the proper diagnostics. Everythings been cool since the new sensor though.

Liberty (-:
Great SUV so far. Only 3 complains. Right rear window has significant wind noise. Pulls to the right. Gas milage sucks. Not bad for 12000 miles. I have not taken it back to the dealer for the minor problems yet because my wife won't give it up for a day yet. Haven't been off road yet, but I plan too soon.
My first new vehicle
I have been driving my 2003 liberty since June 2003. The dealer ripped me off unfortunately but the liberty is great. I owned a Wrangler before this for 2 years and yes i miss having the top & doors off. But the Liberty gives the comfort and handling that i wasn't used too. I am already considering buying a 2004 at a much better deal i was given for this one.
Love Liberty
It has been great in the snow!
excellent
the best vehicle ever
SWEET
I have had the Liberty for 3 years now, and am very happy with it. If only the gas companies would lower prices! :) I am thinking that the next one will be a Grand Cherokee with a diesel in it ... due out within the next few years.
197,000 Miles and still going strong!
Just hit 197K miles the other week and have had very few issues outside routine maintenance. Replaced the AC compressor two years ago, rotors twice (due to my own neglect). Still only on 3rd set of tires and they have at least another 30k in them. Local mechanic said it will need new rear shocks soon. Tremendous value for my money vs. needs and it still averages 21 mpg hwy!
Great Jeep
Solid ride, great design - True Jeep.
Love my Liberty
This is a great vehicle! Yes, the gas mileage could be better but every other aspect of this Jeep is a delight. The build quality is outstanding; not a single problem since I bought it last October. Its fun to drive and I find its handling better than what the reviews seem to indicate. Handling is tight and solid...Consider this vehicle if you're looking for a well-built, fun to drive, and capable off-road SUV.
A GREAT CAR
I just bought my jeep Liberty renegade and it's so much fun to drive, it is a very comfortable car, a great sound system, it has amazing handling, and makes you feel totally in control of the road without being too huge & bulky. Even though it's a gas and mileage eater I absolutely love my car because all the other elements this car has to offer far surpass that. I can drive over a curb like a piece of paper ... he he....
Great Truck
For those of you out there the News 2003 Jeep Liberty is a great new vehicle. With a choice of two four-wheel drive systems. Three different modles, Sport, Limited and the awsome Renegade. All with excellent off road capabilities. As well as off road, on road driving is superb, with a smoother ride than cherokee, and larger interior space for that added head and leg room. The 2003 Liberty is a jeep for all.
Like the vehicle, but not the service
At first I was very happy with my Liberty. It had okay acceleration, roomy interior, a great sounding stereo, and a nice over all look. Then I took my car to have the oil change. Chrysler service departments are the worst I have ever experienced. They nickle and dimed me every chance they got, tried to rip me off, offered to do work that wasn't needed, were very unprompt, and rude. It took one hour just to have them start on my car, and I had an appointment. This was at a 5 star service department.
A love hate relationship
I love the Jeep, Sturdy, responsive, good towing ability, good power on high end lacks power in mid range.with 55,000 miles I am getting 19-22 mpg. Get ABS! have had 2 accidents due to brakes locking up while making turns on slick surfaces or turning on to gravel, have had 5 near miss accidents. No dealer help on this issue, that is the hate part of the relationship, dealers are not willing to back up thier product...Visit National highway transportation safety site for consumer complaints.
Fun Ride
Exceeded expectations in quality and fun to drive. Absolutely stunning good looks. Great in snow and rain with good visibility. Very quick in traffic and solid on the interstate. MPG about what you would expect for a heavy duty small truck.
extreme fun to drive
i have bought this machine 2 weeks ago. So far excellent, you feel like flying.
One Fun Jeep
My Liberty Limited has been a great vehicle. It handles great and looks even better - I'm always getting comments on it. It ride does get a little stiff on longer trips, but the interior is nice and the 6 way power, leather seats let you adjust to you hearts content. The gas mileage has gotten a bit better now that I've gotten my vehicle broken in, but don't expect more than about 21 mpg on the highway or about 17 mpg in town. I've taken my Liberty in for service every 3,000 miles as suggested, and I haven't had a single problem mechanical wise. I haven't had any problems - it is just so much fun to drive!
I luv my Liberty.
Didn't want to replace my wife's Sebring convertible. But this really fills the bill. Comfort, style, capability and fun.
Jeep Liberty - One-Year Review
I have owned this vehicle for one year this month. I have not had a single problem: it is built like a vault. Liberty is a home run. A real billy goat with onroad manners and unique sculpting in keeping with the Jeep brand. Under $30K for a loaded brawny, capable, stylish and refined Jeep. I will keep mine for a long time!
Extremely dangerous in wet conditions!
I've owned my Liberty for 2 1/2 yrs now, with 47,000 miles. In the past year or so we have had terrible experiences of this car sliding and skidding when there is the slightest bit of rain on the road. The dealership recently checked it and said that the tires did not need replacing. Now we drive as if we are on ice when the road is wet. Even then we still have instances where we lose control. Unfortunately due to employee pricing incentives it will cost a lot of money to replace this car now as it has a low trade-in value. We have just taken the decision to spend $10,000 to replace this car with a Honda Pilot. A cheap price to save a life!
Lemon!
I bought this car new and in the first week the transmission was bad. I wanted the car replaced but was forced to replace the transmission. Thr "new" transmission is hard to put in 1st and sometimes reverse. The spark plugs have had to be replaced and the rear differential had a leak.
SO GOOOOOOOOOOD!
The 2002 Jeep Liberty is amazing. The drive is smooth, the jeep is reliable, and the stereo is awesome!
ridin' around in my jeep liberty
handles great, looks good, performance is top notch.compact but still enough room for everyday errands and family outtings
Great Car!
I've had this car for about 6months and I love it!! Its a great "looker" and rides good too. More room inside than I thought at first. When I laid the seats down, I was able to fit a recliner in there. It has great pick up when pulling out into traffic and can turn on a dime.
Jeep thing!!!
I love my jeep liberty.. the only thing I would complain about is that every jeep liberty owner that I've talked to has had the same problem.. they develope a squeaking noise after the first year that's attributed to the water pump.. That can be a little annoying...Other than that I love my jeep,it does very good in the snow and the mud.. I love it!!!
So Far..........So Mostly Good
Originally went shopping for a Toyota Tacoma 4X4, but couldn't get any extras in them w/o spending megabucks. The Liberty goes through snow like a plow and handles well. I think the front seat cushions could be an inch or two longer. My only real beef is I had it in the shop at 2k miles for a strange turn signal/flasher problem. Fixed under warranty.
10k in 6 months and still amazed!
I bought my Liberty in the beginning of January, so far I have put 10,000 miles on it. I upgraded from a Geo Tracker, and I'll tell you what...Jeep are spectacular. The only issue I've had in 10,000m miles is that I had to replace the right rear brake caliper. The room inside is amazing. I am 6'2'' and there is probably another 5'' of room between my head and the roof. The only quirky thing about the liberty is the power winder controls for the front and rear passengers are all located on the center console. It's awkward but I've grown to love it.
Fun with the Liberty
I have been driving the vehicle for about three weeks and have loved it. I love the way it handles and turns. It's a bit rough as far as the ride but what the heck it's fun to drive and I knew I wasn't buying a Caddie.
2002 Liberty Sport with 21,000 miles
Purch. 7/01 and now have 21k miles on it. 18 years of driving a CJ-7 a change was in order but wanted to stay with Jeep name. I haven't been disappointed. Reliabilty has been excellent. No signif. mech. problems. I have had squeaking/creaking which seemed to come from rear shocks. Dealer replaced them, and padded a few cables that were hitting the underside of the wheelwell. For the most part this solved problem. Too big of deal being made over location of window controls. You get used to it and they are fine. I have used it extensively in 4 wheel drive in the snow and it handles as good as any vehicle I have ever driven.
liberty mania
I love my two wheel drive liberty. It takes me to all the places I like to go as well as off roading. I am amazed how a two wheel drive vehicle can climb! Acceleration is good but noisy. Fuel economy is to be desired but the overall performance is nimble. Did I mention the comfort of the back seat and the ease of parking?
My first Jeep
I love this SUV and will probably buy Jeeps from now on. It is fun to drive, very reliable and comfortble. We were not happy with the dealership at all but that has not influenced our vehicle satisfaction.
AMAZING!
Jeep liberty renegade is such an amazing car! I love it and it is so fun to drive! I feel so comfortable in it and I have so much control on the road, the handling is great and I love my 6-CD changer.
Safety First
I was forced to sell my Durango and I decided to buy the Liberty. I never have regreted it once. I have two small girls and was hit in the front quarter panel by a full size Dodge Ram. The truck's entire front end was crushed and had to be towed off the scene. The jeep was easily pushed aside with little damage. I have never felt safer than in my Liberty. I have already put 50,000 miles on it in a year and a half. I love it and would recommend it to anyone. I am 5'11" tall and have plenty of room inside. The cargo room in the back is great also for a small SUV.
One a Jeep, always a Jeep
Had a 94 g. cherokee, then got a Liberty Renegade, 5 sp. I love it. I was torn between the Xterra and the liberty, but after test driving the liberty I was sold.It has better pick up, and more options for the same money.
Jeep Liberty Renegade - A Strong Midget
This is my second Jeep Liberty, which I got by traded the first one in. My previous one was Liberty Limited Edition (2002) and this time Liberty Renegade (2003). Both of them have 3.7 Liter, V6 engine. I have driven 20,000 miles with my previous Jeep Liberty (Limited Ed.) in one year. Both off road and on road driving with this vehicle class is great. It is a small SUV with a power of big one. I hauled the biggest U-haul trailer (12'x6') with Jeep Liberty (Limited Ed.) without any trouble at all.
Love the truck, BUT ITS A GAS GUZZLER!!!
Great truck but don't believe that windows sticker that claims gas mileage of 17 to 21. its more like 13 to 17 mpg. Local/city driving averages 13.5 gallon driven normally, agreesive driving brings the city number to 11.5mpg. Highway driving for me is 17mpg, however I was able to achieve 21mpg on a long trip doing 70mph but I had to focus on slow accelerations and steady speed. I average 15.2mpg city/highway driving. I WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT THIS TRUCK HAD I KNOWN ABOUT THE POOR GAS MPG. I complained to Jeep several times.
Outstanding!
I've had my Liberty for almost 1 year and 14,000 miles now. Only been in the shop once soon after we got it to adjust a few things (rear windshield latch needed to be tightened). I got about 13-14 mpg until around 7,000 miles (in town driving). Now always get 17+ around town. Love the design, rock-solid feel, and nimble handling. I have 2 kids near driving age and will strongly consider getting a used one for them in a couple of years. Couldn't be more satisfied.
Love my Liberty
This is the first SUV we have ever owned. My wife and I both love the handling, the room, and the design. So far, so good. Was a little hesitant about buying a Jeep, as we have always owned Nissan's. Have been very happy with its performance to date. Also Great AC
GREAT CAR
I have had my Jeep Liberty for 3 weeks. I love the car. The power is good and it handle very well during a snow blizzard. Also the wierdest thing happen to me today. I was in park waiting for someone and the car stalled on me.
I love my Jeep!
I have owned my Jeep for over a year and I absolutely love it! I use it to commute to college and it gets me there no matter what the weather is! I would highly recommend a Liberty to anyone. It is really manuverable. I feel very safe in my Jeep. I also love how you are up high and have a good view of the road. This vehicle is a blast to drive!
Love it...
One of the best purchases I have made. I have never had a problem. The gas mileage is OK. The best I've done so far is 19 mpg. Around town I get about 15 mpg. I have taken it on several long trips and it is very comfortable. I have not been off road yet but I will soon. The only regret is I did not purchase with anti-lock brakes. It is a heavy vehicle and I almost could not stop going down a steep road in San Francisco.
Like my Liberty
I have found it to be one of the most enjoyable vehicles to drive I have ever owned. It has plenty of power - plenty of options-have all but CD changer and moon roof. Have heated seats - mirrors - power everything - excellent sound system. Only complaint I have is that is is a bit rough on bad roads or city streets. On open highways it ride just fine. Gas could be a bit better and may improve after time. 19mpg during summer and about 17mpg in winter so far. Will really get up and go if you need it.
Liberty Rocks!
Fun, safe and comfortable SUV. The Liberty feels very solid yet handles nimbly. Sharp looking vehicle. Only complaint is gas mileage could be better for its size.
Great SUV, but...
We intended to buy an older 4runner, but found that for the same money, could get the Liberty. Had 4K on it when we bought it. Loved it. It is a hoot to buzz around town and short trips. Not a long trip vehicle. It was set up as tow car when we bought it...it would be superb for that purpose. Has tow package, and tows our boat easily. Seats, even for for a short person like me, are a little short, but leather is broken in now, so more comfy. Kids in back seat can see out, a plus. Wish we could keep it, but must sell, mainly because need better mileage.
love hate relationship
our first suv. wife loves looks and handling of vechicle. horrible on gas, am getting 15-16 mpg mostly city. lack of storge and placement of window controls.
Jeep
Good buy for smaller SUV
Let's go Jeep'n
This is my second Jeep. The first was a '92 Cherokee. I've loved them both. The Liberty feels like a sports car, but jacked up with 4 wheel drive. The seats cradle me and the steering is sure. The engine isn't a supercharged V8, but it is quite capable of moving the little Jeep around.
Love my Jeep
I owned a Wrangler and Cherokee prior to this Liberty and I am completely satisfied to this point. Fuel economy is horrible but I am trying a Mopar fuel body spacer and air intake system to help with this. I am driving this vehicle in Germany and it is wonderful on the narrow streets and pretty stable at high speeds on the autobahn. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone wanting an SUV but one small enough to drive like a car. The leather interior is wonderful and no complaints about workmanship to this point. I do wish however that American automobiles like this Liberty had a better re-sale value for future purchases.
poor rear suspension
plenty of power from v6 but the goodyear wranglers that came on the liberty give very poor traction on anything but dry pavement. at about 8000 km. rear suspension started to bottom out even under light load by 10000km. it was so bad if you filled the gas tank it was enough to make it bottom out.
a little bigger but just as much fun
had a Wrangler for years. loved it but needed a skosh more room. Liberty fit the bill. it's quick, comfortable, cute and oh so easy to drive. love it..love it..love it too.
