Jeep Liberty 2003 - satisfaction
I have driven vehicles on business prior to my purchase of my Liberty. Comparisons were done between Xterra, Escape, and the Liberty for ride and enjoyment. The Jeep Liberty won hands down ... and was cheaper to boot. If you're looking for an economical call from a fuel perspective, this is not your car.
2003 Liberty
I owned a 94 Cherokee for 224,000 miles before it was crashed beyond repair. I purchased the Liberty expecting improved results. Overall, I enjoyed the Cherokee better & wish it was still offered.

Jeep Liberty Unmatched
The jeep Liberty is by far my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. The Durability and design go unmatched by competitors vehicles...
At least Daimler Benz is involved.
This is the first domestic auto I've ever owned, and after 9 months I'm still happy. It's only the second year for the Liberty, and unfortunately they're still working out the bugs. Something behind my passenger airbag rattled until I made the dealership find it. Jeep service is pathetic, and will call all noises and rattles "normal." But it is a solid vehicle. I was surprised how well designed and built it was. Other than the pathetic gas milage (16mpg for a V6???), the Jeep is great.
Jeep Liberty Rating
A REALLY fun vehicle. Perfect size and pretty quick!
give me liberty!
love it! love it! i test drove just about every small and medium sized suv on the market and this is by far the best.
I love it!
We have owned a Liberty for 6 mos now and love it! It's fun and easy to get about anywhere you want to go. The only two things that I consider a drawback is gas mileage and no handle on the back flip up window. Of course it doesnt drive like a luxury car but remember it's a JEEP!
gotta love it
Bought 03 jeep liberty beginning of june. Can't help but love it. The V6 has a nice throaty muscular roar. Gas mileage is low but compared to the other SUVs and trucks out there you'd have to drive a Focus to get great gas mileage! My wife and I love the styling much more distinct that others (especially the plain vanilla Ford Escape. Interior on the limited rocks! Also don't let that "bouncy ride" entries sway you, it's very comfortable (We drove a Jeep Wrangler for 14 years)
i love this car
i love it, but it gets sucky gas mileage
inconceivable
this vehicle is kick ass so far i have to keep it in part time all the time after driving a neon its down right scary.it sure astep up 4 me. so far the only pet peeve i have is that i keep slapping on the brights everytime i signal. so if your gettin flashed out there it could be by accident.it may be a jeeper creeper but this baby is also a leaper
WONDERFUL CAR!!!
This is no CRV or RAV4. It is heavy and has substance. FANTASTIC CAR. 12,000 miles of worry free fun!!!
My Jeep
This is my second Jeep Liberty. I enjoy it greatly. It is fun to drive and the exterior is very eye catching.
Capable 4x4 Vehicle
Usefull vehicle good ofroading can take lots of pounding, yet is quite on road. Good acceleration for its weight. Fuel economy is not so great but the difference is not huge since compared with other vehicles with better fuel economy going on incline road or fully loaded the smaller engine (RAV 4) has to over rev to keep up with speed and losses its fuel economy advantage. Very reliable, quite and confortable.
Great Mid-Size SUV
My Partner has had a Liberty( 2002) for a year now and loves it. I had driven it for a while before I decieded to get one myself. I love the turning radius and the heighth of the car.The Liberty is a very utilitarian car. Simple quality with a little style.
i love my jeep
great vehicle. fun to drive. goes great in the snow. fun look to it and many people have stopped to ask about the jeep because they would like to purchase one. seats 4 people comfortably with a large trunk space.
The Ultimate Vehicle
Some folks like to smoothly glide over small road irregularities without feeling them. The Renegade's stiff suspension lets you feel these, but when it comes to potholes, railroad tracks, etc., it handles these like they are nothing. I LOVE going over parking lot speed bumps ! Fun to drive, very solid feel. I don't get the body-flexing feeling of others like the Ford Escape. Comfortable, high ride. Going down a dirt road regularly...don't hear near as many stones hitting the vehicle bottom. And a really macho look.
Half Cherokee, Half Wrangler
The Jeep Liberty is a great blend of Grand Cherokee features and Wrangler capabilities. This Jeep is more truck than it is car, so those of you looking for a small SUV that handles like a car need to keep looking. No other SUV except the Wrangler has the off-road capability of this Jeep. It handles well on the road, but it is not a car, and does not even attempt to approach the handling of a car. It is greedy on gas, but the engine is powerful. I have the 2WD Limited version, and I'm completely happy with my purchase. I suggest the 4WD Renegade version for those who are going to do serious off- roading.
New owner review
I love my Jeep Liberty. I've only had it for about 1 month, but I just can't find enough time to drive it. It is the perfect size vehicle and is absolutely exciting to drive. I love the way it handles and especially love the power of the 3.7L V6 engine. My wife and I are both tall (she's 5'10" and I'm 6'2") and the head room in the front of the car is perfect. There are still several inches left even when I sit straight up (which is rare in any type of vehicle). Most people complain about the handling and ride, but I say an SUV is a truck, not a passenger car or a minivan, and I expect one to behave accordingly.
Great Vehicle
I've had this 4 wheel drive 6 years now and plan to keep driving it until it dies. I would buy another one if they still made this body style. It has been a surprisingly reliable vehicle. I have never taken it to the shop for any repairs, just maintenance. (knock on wood) I just checked the milage and got 19 MPG in mostly city driving. I got 65,000 miles on the original tires.
LOVIN' IT!
I really love my Jeep and so does my 3 year old son, her name is Libby. We have driven a lot of highway miles and even though the gas mileage is only about 17 mpg, it's a fun trip and we don't want to get out.
Air Bags
I loved my Jeep until I ended up in a frontal collision. The airbags did not deploy at 50-55 mph. I refused to buy another even though to this day I miss my old one! According to AllData - there was a recall in December 2002 re: Sensors that could be sheared off in a frontal/side impact. DaimlerChrysler lied to me in their "investigation" that the vehicle acted as it was supposed to.
Love the vehicle!
I bought a Liberty in May. I love it. It has been a great vehicle. No problems, rides nice, and comfortable. I would recommend ten times over. BUY AMERICAN!!!
Love My Liberty!!!
I bought my 2003 Jeep Liberty in June and have put 9,000 miles on it so far and not 1 problem...Very fun to drive, comfortable after the seats break in a little....I love everything about it...Gas mileage could improve a little but everything else is GREAT. I would recommend the Liberty to anyone!! Great job Jeep...
Kudos for Jeep
The 2003 Jeep Limited is my second Liberty. A few weeks before I purchased this one, my 2002 Liberty was totaled in an accident when a driver ran through a red light and hit me. The engine took the brunt of the hit -- I didn't. I'm convinced the rugged construction saved me. And the Liberty is extremely comfortable on my 5-hour trips to Vermont. It handles well, is a blast to drive, and, after all, it's a Jeep. It can go just about anywhere my heart desires. Want fun? Take a Jeep off the beaten track and see what it can do. I love my Jeep Liberty!!
Very Cute Car!
I love my Jeep!! It's very cute and such a fun vehicle. All my friends love to ride in it and it's perfect to haul around my son and his football friends. The ONLY drawback - it slides tremendously on icey or slick roads. The 4x4 is great, but you can't go over 50mph, which makes it impractible on the highway during these conditions. Otherwise, this vehcile gets four stars. P.S. get the sun roof - it makes a difference!!
Liberty (-:
Great SUV so far. Only 3 complains. Right rear window has significant wind noise. Pulls to the right. Gas milage sucks. Not bad for 12000 miles. I have not taken it back to the dealer for the minor problems yet because my wife won't give it up for a day yet. Haven't been off road yet, but I plan too soon.
Jeep Specifics
My 2002 ltd is quite masterful on sloppy roadways (mud, snow, rocks, debris in general) HOWEVER.. I would recommend purchasing and utilizing the "Full-Time" 4WD option in any rainy conditions. I have found the notable weight and high center-of-gravity can easily cause a slide on curves at "reasonable" speeds when in 2WD mode. My only other issue was at around 1800 miles a speed sensor fried and intermittently would totally screw up the transmissions functioning. This took 3 trips to a dealership and the involvement of a Chrysler Tech.(via phone) out of Mich. to run down the proper diagnostics. Everythings been cool since the new sensor though.
A great Jeep
I have owned a jeep charokee and this liberty handles great. I had to drive home on the day of the last blizzard in colorado and it did better than i could imagine in the snow and ice. It also is great to 4x4 with.
my jeep
I was pleasently suprised with all aspects of my Jeep Liberty. After testing several entry SUVs my Wife And I were unanimous in our decision to purcase it.It has an eye catching design, comfortable and roomy interior, and handles very well. From the interstate to the red clay back roads of Georgia , it has been a great vehicle.
Great Vehicle
We use this car to carry our moonwalks all over the state and so far we have had No problems at all. Great car.
Jeep Liberty 2003 Sport
Excellent choice for a smaller SUV. Coming off a Montero Sport the Jeep handles well even if its taller. Great display panel and having the radio,CD,&casette controls on the stering wheel can't be beat. Love the quick flip rear glass window and the side pull door. This won out the selection process over the Madza Tribute, Outlander, and Freelander.
GAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WOW
i love this suv....no problems... looks wonderful ,feels great.....love the drive...
A Nice drive. Liberty 2003
Got my Liberty Sport 2wd. in June. Handles great. Of course like everyone says, sucks gas like it was going out of style.
excellent
the best vehicle ever
TOUGH LITTLE TRUCK
I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE OCT 1, 2002 AND SO FAR HAVE RACKED UP 7500 TROUBLE FREE MILES ON THE ODOMETER. EVERYTING ON THIS VEHICLE WORKS WELL. I TRAVEL TO THROUGH THE SNOWY MOUNTAINS OF NEW MEXCIO, COLORADO AND UTAH ON A REGULAR BASIS AND HAVEN'T COME CLOSE YET TO GETTING STUCK. THE ENGINEERS AT JEEP DID THEIR HOMEWORK WHEN THEY DESIGNED THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE OWNED FORD EXPLORERS AND TOYOTA 4 RUNNERS AND THIS VEHCILE DEFINITELY PROVIDES THE BEST VALUE FOR THE BUCK. I DEFINITELY RECOMEND THIS VEHICLE.
Review
It's a great utility vehicle for a city / suburban dweller like me. It's fun and sporty with a great interior.
BEST CAR EVER
Very feminine car, but very sporty. The best new car for woman since the volkswagon beetle. It's so nice to drive, and very comfotable. All friends want one.
A love hate relationship
I love the Jeep, Sturdy, responsive, good towing ability, good power on high end lacks power in mid range.with 55,000 miles I am getting 19-22 mpg. Get ABS! have had 2 accidents due to brakes locking up while making turns on slick surfaces or turning on to gravel, have had 5 near miss accidents. No dealer help on this issue, that is the hate part of the relationship, dealers are not willing to back up thier product...Visit National highway transportation safety site for consumer complaints.
Like it!
Traded in 2002 Escape cuz of electronic problems. So far so good. I think that it handles well, turning radius great, decent sounding stereo. Interior is very cozy, seats are short, seem flimsy and flat tho. The Escape was way more comfy inside but Liberty seems solid. I liked the Escape but got rid of it before warranty expired because dash lights, brake lights...would go out at any time. At dealer multiple times...Like my Liberty and if it stays out of the shop I will be happy!
Great car
I have liked the look of the Liberty since they came out. I waited for a year until the 03's arrived, then I drove one. I traded for a Liberty Limited and have been pleased with it. It has a very smooth highway ride for a 4X4 Jeep. It does great off the highway as well. Jeep is the reason why the U.S. won WWII according to President Eisenhower. Jeep has been around since the 1940's so they must be doing something right. Bottom line is great car for great price. Will take you just about anywhere offroad and does great on the highway.
Solid
Very fun to drive and a very solid feeling
extreme fun to drive
i have bought this machine 2 weeks ago. So far excellent, you feel like flying.
Love my Jeep!
I also have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport and I loved driving that one until I got my Liberty! I have nothing but good things to say. It handles great, the suspension makes it a comfortable ride on the highway. I travel about 2000 miles per month and I know I can count on my Liberty! When we are ready to trade in our Cherokee it will be for another Liberty.
Love my Jeep
I love driving my vehicle. Like the way it handles the road and the way it also handles off road. I think it is very comfortable and powerful. I like how it looks too. It's been two years and I don't regret buying my unit.
197,000 Miles and still going strong!
Just hit 197K miles the other week and have had very few issues outside routine maintenance. Replaced the AC compressor two years ago, rotors twice (due to my own neglect). Still only on 3rd set of tires and they have at least another 30k in them. Local mechanic said it will need new rear shocks soon. Tremendous value for my money vs. needs and it still averages 21 mpg hwy!
Great Jeep
Solid ride, great design - True Jeep.
One Fun Jeep
My Liberty Limited has been a great vehicle. It handles great and looks even better - I'm always getting comments on it. It ride does get a little stiff on longer trips, but the interior is nice and the 6 way power, leather seats let you adjust to you hearts content. The gas mileage has gotten a bit better now that I've gotten my vehicle broken in, but don't expect more than about 21 mpg on the highway or about 17 mpg in town. I've taken my Liberty in for service every 3,000 miles as suggested, and I haven't had a single problem mechanical wise. I haven't had any problems - it is just so much fun to drive!
A GREAT CAR
I just bought my jeep Liberty renegade and it's so much fun to drive, it is a very comfortable car, a great sound system, it has amazing handling, and makes you feel totally in control of the road without being too huge & bulky. Even though it's a gas and mileage eater I absolutely love my car because all the other elements this car has to offer far surpass that. I can drive over a curb like a piece of paper ... he he....
Jeep Liberty - One-Year Review
I have owned this vehicle for one year this month. I have not had a single problem: it is built like a vault. Liberty is a home run. A real billy goat with onroad manners and unique sculpting in keeping with the Jeep brand. Under $30K for a loaded brawny, capable, stylish and refined Jeep. I will keep mine for a long time!
SO GOOOOOOOOOOD!
The 2002 Jeep Liberty is amazing. The drive is smooth, the jeep is reliable, and the stereo is awesome!
