Capable 4x4 Vehicle
Usefull vehicle good ofroading can take lots of pounding, yet is quite on road. Good acceleration for its weight. Fuel economy is not so great but the difference is not huge since compared with other vehicles with better fuel economy going on incline road or fully loaded the smaller engine (RAV 4) has to over rev to keep up with speed and losses its fuel economy advantage. Very reliable, quite and confortable.
Great Vehicle
I've had this 4 wheel drive 6 years now and plan to keep driving it until it dies. I would buy another one if they still made this body style. It has been a surprisingly reliable vehicle. I have never taken it to the shop for any repairs, just maintenance. (knock on wood) I just checked the milage and got 19 MPG in mostly city driving. I got 65,000 miles on the original tires.

New owner review
I love my Jeep Liberty. I've only had it for about 1 month, but I just can't find enough time to drive it. It is the perfect size vehicle and is absolutely exciting to drive. I love the way it handles and especially love the power of the 3.7L V6 engine. My wife and I are both tall (she's 5'10" and I'm 6'2") and the head room in the front of the car is perfect. There are still several inches left even when I sit straight up (which is rare in any type of vehicle). Most people complain about the handling and ride, but I say an SUV is a truck, not a passenger car or a minivan, and I expect one to behave accordingly.
Jeeps are it!
This is an incredable SUV. You certainly get your money's worth. I looked at comparable SUV's (XTerra, Escape) and to get the same options in those cars, it would have cost me between 3 and 5 thousand extra. The car is solid, rides great and has alot of power.
Solid
I did not expect the quality to be as good as it was but as the dealer told me . . . Benz eng. is starting to show in Jeep and Chrysler.
Air Bags
I loved my Jeep until I ended up in a frontal collision. The airbags did not deploy at 50-55 mph. I refused to buy another even though to this day I miss my old one! According to AllData - there was a recall in December 2002 re: Sensors that could be sheared off in a frontal/side impact. DaimlerChrysler lied to me in their "investigation" that the vehicle acted as it was supposed to.
Very Satisfied
I've had my Liberty Limited for just over a week now and I absolutely love it. The ride is smooth (especially compared to the Cherokee Sport that my boyfriend has)and I love the added headroom and overall roomier feel than the Cherokee. The leather seats are quite comfortable too. I originally wanted leather seats to make it easier to clean up the dog hair generated by my 3 terriers...but now I love my new Liberty so much that they aren't allowed in it! We are only getting flurries today but I'm eager for it to snow so I can test out the 4wd!
Kudos for Jeep
The 2003 Jeep Limited is my second Liberty. A few weeks before I purchased this one, my 2002 Liberty was totaled in an accident when a driver ran through a red light and hit me. The engine took the brunt of the hit -- I didn't. I'm convinced the rugged construction saved me. And the Liberty is extremely comfortable on my 5-hour trips to Vermont. It handles well, is a blast to drive, and, after all, it's a Jeep. It can go just about anywhere my heart desires. Want fun? Take a Jeep off the beaten track and see what it can do. I love my Jeep Liberty!!
2002 Jeep Liberty Sport 4WD
The vehicle is a pleasure to drive; with all controls easily accessable to the driver. Handling and response is better than the Cherokee, which it replaced. The four-wheel Select-Trac is superb, and the short body over-hang front and rear allows for steep entry and exit angles when in hilly terrain.
Overview of Jeep Liberty
I love my Jeep Liberty. Found that I need to be careful on slippery roads, but it has a lot of get up and go and is fun to drive.
my jeep
I was pleasently suprised with all aspects of my Jeep Liberty. After testing several entry SUVs my Wife And I were unanimous in our decision to purcase it.It has an eye catching design, comfortable and roomy interior, and handles very well. From the interstate to the red clay back roads of Georgia , it has been a great vehicle.
Jeep Liberty 2003 Sport
Excellent choice for a smaller SUV. Coming off a Montero Sport the Jeep handles well even if its taller. Great display panel and having the radio,CD,&casette controls on the stering wheel can't be beat. Love the quick flip rear glass window and the side pull door. This won out the selection process over the Madza Tribute, Outlander, and Freelander.
Great ride, but horrible on gas
The Jeep Liberty is a fantastic ride and very comforable. The fuel ecomony is poor on local roads even for an SUV. It does, however, improve greatly when on longer trips of 30 miles or more on the highway. I personally have a problem with the height of the panelling by the brakes. I have to position my right leg in such a manner as to not graze the panel. That's a bit of hazard when having to brake suddenly. Drivers who are a smaller size may not have that problem. I happen to be 6'1. Those are my 2 major issues. I happen to enjoy my Jeep Liberty very much. The CD player and speakers are very good. The passenger seats are comfortable.
the american jeep
american make.it is one damm good suv and very happy to own one.thank you
Fired Up!!!!
I have had my Liberty for 5 years and have had zero problems with it. It has been wonderful. The problems that have been described with tires and handling I have not experienced. My Liberty has taken everything that has been thrown at it from hail storms (without a dent) to near blizzard conditions (without a slide off). Awesome vehicle.
A Nice drive. Liberty 2003
Got my Liberty Sport 2wd. in June. Handles great. Of course like everyone says, sucks gas like it was going out of style.
A good vehicle
tough on gas, but a nice vehicle
First NEW vehicle
I bought this Jeep 2 weeks ago. It's incredible. I've driven trucks and other SUV's before but this is so much better. The ride is a bit rough but I expect that from a Jeep. It's built on a chassis designed for it unlike some other SUV's that are built on car chassis. I find the exhaust note to sound great, the steering is adaquate, the seats are supportive and comfortable and there's room for passengers and cargo.
BEST CAR EVER
Very feminine car, but very sporty. The best new car for woman since the volkswagon beetle. It's so nice to drive, and very comfotable. All friends want one.
Great car
I have liked the look of the Liberty since they came out. I waited for a year until the 03's arrived, then I drove one. I traded for a Liberty Limited and have been pleased with it. It has a very smooth highway ride for a 4X4 Jeep. It does great off the highway as well. Jeep is the reason why the U.S. won WWII according to President Eisenhower. Jeep has been around since the 1940's so they must be doing something right. Bottom line is great car for great price. Will take you just about anywhere offroad and does great on the highway.
Love my Liberty Hate the Transmission
I purchased my liberty in Feburary of 2003 and have had major transmission problems. I love the smooth ride and the powerful engine. I like to beat all the wranglers off the line! :) The interior is super comfortable and I haven't had any troubles with cargo space. The grocery bag hooks are a neat feature.
Liberty Renegade
Great fun to drive.Roomy.Handles nice.Gas mileage only about 17mpg.
I love my Jeep.
I'm a 70 year old woman, 5'3" tall, and this Jeep is the only SUV which doesn't feel too big or hard to get into and out of. My silver Jeep Liberty Ltd and two gorgeous Chrysler LeBaron convertibles have given me more fun to drive than any other of the innumerable vehicles I've driven throughout the years. And I absolutely love the attention my Jeep receives from young people. Next, I think I'll get a red hat to make driving my Jeep even more fun!
New owner
I just picked up my Liberty Renegade yesterday. I absolutely love the vehicle. The leather seats are very comfortable and the interior controls are logically arranged. The seating area is every bit as large as my Ford Explorer Sport was. The exterior appearance is aggressive, without being overboard like the Avalanche. My only complaint was the difficulty in locating a Renegade with the options I wanted. I was unable to find one with antilock brakes in the Austin area and had to travel to San Antonio to find one. It was worth the drive. The 75 mile drive back to Austin was an absolute pleasure.
Cute Ute? are you CRAZY?
So far, I have found the Liberty to be an EXCELLENT vehicle because of its overall build quality, terrific handling, and solid JEEP like feel.
Solid
Very fun to drive and a very solid feeling
SUV that ACTUALLY performs off road
One of the best SUV's I've ever driven. It handles on road well and off road even better. With no after market parts I've taken my Liberty far into the bushes and it handles mud pits with ease. When on pavement it drives nice, has good power and does everything an SUV should do on the road. Other SUV makers should take note. This is a true offroad vehicle unlike most SUV's in its class. If your a soccer mom I'm sure it would fill your needs as well. Nothing is more fun than driving downtown with my Jeep Liberty covered from top to bottom in mud after mudding and seeing all the looks you get from "city drivers". I have absolutely pounded on this Jeep and haven't had any breakdowns.
inconceivable
this vehicle is kick ass so far i have to keep it in part time all the time after driving a neon its down right scary.it sure astep up 4 me. so far the only pet peeve i have is that i keep slapping on the brights everytime i signal. so if your gettin flashed out there it could be by accident.it may be a jeeper creeper but this baby is also a leaper
WONDERFUL CAR!!!
This is no CRV or RAV4. It is heavy and has substance. FANTASTIC CAR. 12,000 miles of worry free fun!!!
The Ultimate Vehicle
Some folks like to smoothly glide over small road irregularities without feeling them. The Renegade's stiff suspension lets you feel these, but when it comes to potholes, railroad tracks, etc., it handles these like they are nothing. I LOVE going over parking lot speed bumps ! Fun to drive, very solid feel. I don't get the body-flexing feeling of others like the Ford Escape. Comfortable, high ride. Going down a dirt road regularly...don't hear near as many stones hitting the vehicle bottom. And a really macho look.
Half Cherokee, Half Wrangler
The Jeep Liberty is a great blend of Grand Cherokee features and Wrangler capabilities. This Jeep is more truck than it is car, so those of you looking for a small SUV that handles like a car need to keep looking. No other SUV except the Wrangler has the off-road capability of this Jeep. It handles well on the road, but it is not a car, and does not even attempt to approach the handling of a car. It is greedy on gas, but the engine is powerful. I have the 2WD Limited version, and I'm completely happy with my purchase. I suggest the 4WD Renegade version for those who are going to do serious off- roading.
Another Great Creation From JEEP
WOW. I feel like Im a teenager again!
excellent
wonderful vehicle, could get better gas mileage though
love my liberty
Awesome both on and off road. Highly suggested. Service dept has been wonderful to deal with. No regrets. Love the car
Love my Liberty
I test drove the top competeing model against this vehcile. Although it was a little bigger the ride and comfort was not nearly as good. I love this vehicle.
love this Jeep
Buy the Jeep...it's a good safe bet and cute as a button to boot.
Mechanically substandard
Hello All, This is one of many new cars I have bought and it is the worst one mechanically. The engine makes rattling noises, the front seats have been stained by water, the rear right brake drags, the clutch / drivetrain makes a bad clunking noise, it idles rough, and a myriad of other smaller problems. Some of the problems are intermittent which makes it even more difficult to get fixed. I would not recommend this car to anyone. Save yourself problems and buy something else. I hope I can invoke the NY "lemon law" and get rid of this car.
so far so good
just recently purchased the freedom edition. Boy, does this thing look great, and it's so much fun to drive. Yes the window controls are in a poor location, but after a few days I hardly even noticed anymore. Seats are sporty looking and beautiful. Storage compartment is set way to far back and glove compartment is smallish, but these are such minor blemishes that i could care less. Pulls my jetski with no problems. Rear leg space is fine, as well as cargo space. The car has done nothing but impress me so far, and even is impressing my grumpy old man of a father, and that pretty much equals a five star rating then!
Liberty (-:
Great SUV so far. Only 3 complains. Right rear window has significant wind noise. Pulls to the right. Gas milage sucks. Not bad for 12000 miles. I have not taken it back to the dealer for the minor problems yet because my wife won't give it up for a day yet. Haven't been off road yet, but I plan too soon.
Jeep Specifics
My 2002 ltd is quite masterful on sloppy roadways (mud, snow, rocks, debris in general) HOWEVER.. I would recommend purchasing and utilizing the "Full-Time" 4WD option in any rainy conditions. I have found the notable weight and high center-of-gravity can easily cause a slide on curves at "reasonable" speeds when in 2WD mode. My only other issue was at around 1800 miles a speed sensor fried and intermittently would totally screw up the transmissions functioning. This took 3 trips to a dealership and the involvement of a Chrysler Tech.(via phone) out of Mich. to run down the proper diagnostics. Everythings been cool since the new sensor though.
Best of the best
Great car (SUV) The best SUV in it's class
don't buy a jeep
Liberty has got to be the worst riding vehicle I have ever owned. DEaler replaced front &rear springs & shocks after 8 months. Gas mileage sucked never got better then 16 mpg hwy. Had a fulsize extended cab 4x4 V8 that got 21 to 23 should have kept it.
Great Small Truck
Its great on the beach in sand, I have no problem towing a small boat anywhere. It handles much better on the road than reviews would lead you to believe.
excellent
the best vehicle ever
TOUGH LITTLE TRUCK
I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE OCT 1, 2002 AND SO FAR HAVE RACKED UP 7500 TROUBLE FREE MILES ON THE ODOMETER. EVERYTING ON THIS VEHICLE WORKS WELL. I TRAVEL TO THROUGH THE SNOWY MOUNTAINS OF NEW MEXCIO, COLORADO AND UTAH ON A REGULAR BASIS AND HAVEN'T COME CLOSE YET TO GETTING STUCK. THE ENGINEERS AT JEEP DID THEIR HOMEWORK WHEN THEY DESIGNED THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE OWNED FORD EXPLORERS AND TOYOTA 4 RUNNERS AND THIS VEHCILE DEFINITELY PROVIDES THE BEST VALUE FOR THE BUCK. I DEFINITELY RECOMEND THIS VEHICLE.
Review
It's a great utility vehicle for a city / suburban dweller like me. It's fun and sporty with a great interior.
A love hate relationship
I love the Jeep, Sturdy, responsive, good towing ability, good power on high end lacks power in mid range.with 55,000 miles I am getting 19-22 mpg. Get ABS! have had 2 accidents due to brakes locking up while making turns on slick surfaces or turning on to gravel, have had 5 near miss accidents. No dealer help on this issue, that is the hate part of the relationship, dealers are not willing to back up thier product...Visit National highway transportation safety site for consumer complaints.
extreme fun to drive
i have bought this machine 2 weeks ago. So far excellent, you feel like flying.
Love my Jeep!
I also have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport and I loved driving that one until I got my Liberty! I have nothing but good things to say. It handles great, the suspension makes it a comfortable ride on the highway. I travel about 2000 miles per month and I know I can count on my Liberty! When we are ready to trade in our Cherokee it will be for another Liberty.
Jeep troubles
I haven't even had my 2003 Jeep Liberty for a year and I've had it back to the dealer multiple times because of issues with the transmission. It's hard shifting when it slow to a certain speed. No one seems to be able to figure it out.
