Used 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Consumer Reviews
Dan's view of the Jeep GC
Generally, this is a good, reliable automobile. Over 96000 miles with no reliability problems. The transmission shift points are questionable. One odd experience that cost me 800 dollars involved a front drive shaft that all of a sudden developed a leaky joint because it was too short. This happened after replacing the front diff yoke and the corresponding seal (the latter several times). Of course, nobody owned up to any wrong doing or design issues.
Bought it New and still fun to drive
We bought this, our second Grand Cherokee, in January 1998. Had 2 diffenential problems that the dealer took care of, vibration and grinding. Currently at 89,000 miles with no problems.

Excellent
I just bought the car because I have a child and wanted something that was spacious and safe at the same time. I think I have made a great choice in what I chose. The car to me rides so smooth for being a somewhat slender suv. I honestly thought it would be a little bumby and I was pleastly suprised. So far I have only had the car for a few day but I love it. I was also kind of worried about the gas mileage with it being a v8, It actually gets pretty good gas mileage. Overall I would say this is a wonderful car.
Too many hassles...
Jeeps are cool cars, don't get me wrong. However, I have had so many things go wrong with mine that I will not buy another one. The dealer guaranteed the car, but acted as if I was an idiot when I told them to fix certain things. I have had 3 bearings go bad ($300 a piece), A/C break, and many other things to give me a headache in the 2+ years I've owned it. Good looking car, but a nightmare to upkeep.
Happy with JEEP
I bought my Jeep with 53,000 miles, so far I have had the stabalizer replaced. I love my Jeep, it is very comfortable and I really enjoy the drive. It has a tough look and a strong sturdy frame. I plan to keep it for the next four years and in ll honesty I feel I made a great decision to purchase my Jeep.
