Why did Jeep stop making these?

I bought my Jeep from the original owner in June of 2006, and I've been very happy since day 1. I bought it with 75k, and since then i've put 23K on it since. I've had to replace the orginal brakes on it (i'd suggest the ceramic brake pads), tires, and shocks, but that's been it. I also put a 2" lift kit on it, because stock 4x4 vehicles tower over it. Now it's about the height of a stock 4-runner. The best thing is that it's never stranded me, it's been the best car I've owned and I've owned and sold a lot cars.

Bring it back!

Bought this with 50K after riding through very rough terrain in a friend's Cherokee that had 250K. I'm now at 140K. I meet people all the time who tell me they are the best vehicle ever, and who have very high mileage. I use it on very, very bad "roads" in the hills of backwoods East Tennessee and also to commute and to haul electronic equipment. This Jeep does it all. It's true it's not a pretty soccer mom's car, so what, that's not what I want. Oh please bring it back! By the way, people around here love them and keep them forever.

I have not had one single major problem with my classic cherokee. When I compare this Jeep to other people's driving experiences I feel very lucky because I have had far less problems with it than anyone I know. My cherokee has been more loyal to me than some friends of mine! I love my Cherokee, and I am saddened I won't be able to buy a new one when her time is up; but at the same time I am proud to know in a few years that my Jeep will be known as a real classic.

No major problems. Maneuverable, consistent, dependable, sporty with comfort. I still smile when I drive it! A reliable classic design stands the test of time and serves me well.

Disappointment

I was really jazzed when I bought my jeep, but things have gone down since I have passed the 30k milage marker. I had to replace my rotors, I have an electrical problem that will not go away, and every oil change, it is time to balance the tires again. When the tires are out of balance, it sounds like a plane traveling down the street. Biggest disappointment is how fast the value of this 3 year old vehicle is dropping.

3rd Jeep I've had and the best so far.

I bought my Jeep when it only had 3 miles on it. I saw the truck driver when he was backing it off the delivery truck. It was Chili Pepper Red with Grey inside. I bought the extended warranty for 7 years or 100,000 miles. (DID NOT USE IT) The only problem that I have had is that the alternator went out at about 75,000 miles. I change the oil every 3500 mi and have a regular maintenance schedule. This Jeep looks as good as it drives.

I purchased this vehicle with 7 miles on it,I have serviced the vehicle according to manufacturers recommendations and have had no major problems(41800 miles).I own a tent trailer and use it for traveling all the time.I have also used if for off road adventures and have been overwhelmingly pleased.I have even been to Moab Utah a time or two and have even amazed a few of the avid four wheelers with what I was accomplishing in a stock vehicle. There is not a stock S-10 or Explorer that can keep up with this one.I drove the other two and gave them their fair shot.If you like to get out camp and do some off roading, Jeep is it!

Jeeper for Life

With my 91 Cherokee Limited having 258000 miles on it I decided to buy something a little newer. I have always loved jeeps. The boxiness is great. The L6 pulls my trailer and 2 atv's with no problems (sportsman 500,600). The fuel is decent for something like this. The auto trans is bullet proof. They should never have stopped building these. My only complaint is the power windows. The sport is the most expensive to replace as it is a dealer only item.

Always wanted a Cherokee since the early '90s. Bought new in '99. Goes just about anywhere you want. Only problem was with the front windows. Both driver and passenger motor brackets broke within a year of each other and caused the window to drop to the bottom of the door. I pull a 2000 lb camper all over the Tennessee hills at 80 with no problems. Easy to work on or modify with uncountable parts available for greater off road performance. Limited only by your imagination. It is truly a shame that Jeep stopped making the Cherokee. Nothing else can compare.

I'm probably the 3rd or 4th owner of my jeep and to this day it's still in great condition, I got it from a guy my dad works with and it is by far my favorite car I've ever been in, mind you I'm a huge fan of old beaters. When I got it there was some repairs needed, a couple small holes in the body, it was all small repairs, every mechanic I took it to raved about how good of condition it was in. Not a lot of rust thanks to previous owners, she has some bumps and bruises but it's the absolute perfect car for me. It has its car quirks, the window sometimes falls off the track, the car speakers sometimes go out,🤷 I have absolutely no complaints. I love the roll down windows the seats the cassette player. It's an amazing car at almost 268000km she's still running like a beast

Goldie is better on the Hwy than my $60 K Rubicon

Goldie is my $5,000 1999 Cherokee sport w/109,000 miles! I just chose to make a 360 mile 1day trip across the NV dessert in her in lou of choosing my fancy 2013 unlimited and I am glad I did. Goldie on pavement rides, steers and uses less gas than her macho big brother w/59,000 miles.

Really Crappy Wiring

Rabbit, 09/06/2009

After 10 years, nearly every wire in the Jeep is cracking and beginning to fail. Intermittent failures in the window operators, instruments, radio. Cruise control, horn and airbag are all out of commission. Car has never been crashed or bumped and has had only light 4wd use, but body panels are coming loose, trim strips and bumpers are falling off. Transmission is noisy. Death wobble is getting steadily worse even after new tires, shocks, dampener and alignment. The Jeep is the newest of my three cars and the only one that I seriously want to get rid of. VERY Disappointed.

I got this great suv in march of 2010 for my first vehicle. I love the style and ride with the 4.0 L 6 cylinder. It's easy to drive and great for a new driver. Mine has over 200,000 miles and still sounds great. I wish jeep still made these because they are the best.

Bought a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport 2W drive. AutoNation "certified" and under limited warranty. Had a nagging "clunk" when shifting from N to D, not all the time. Turns out I needed a differential & transfer case. Due to warranty process, car had to be inspected by an AutoNation adjuster - took over a week for dealership mechanic to make appt. then 3 day wait then 1 day eval and then had to get OK to proceed. Jeep dropped off on 1/25/03, still in the shop as of today, waiting for parts. Part of problem is the Jeep ran fine- apparently problem had been present for some time, but no one noticed. No official cause for the mechanical problem.

Ho-hum... probably my last Jeep.

I bought my Cherokee with 37k miles on it and it now has about 52k miles. Since purchasing it, I've had to replace: cracked exhaust manifold, rear hatch, exhaust hanger, window controls on the passenger side, serpentine belt, the fuel filler, the transfer case, and the injectors were overly covered in carbon (so said the dealer). I also have a vibration in the front end between 65-75 MPH that two different Jeep dealers have not been able to figure out. Other than the consistant problems and low low low gas mileage, I dig my Jeep. I wouldn't suggest a Cherokee to anyone, but I wouldn't turn you away from one either. Buyer beware I guess.

My wife and I have put 30,000 miles on it since we got it with 50,000 miles on it. Since then we had to replace the front rotors, driver's side power window motor and tires. The 4WD light does not display in the instrument cluster and sometimes (after a lot of rain) the cluster will not work for a few minutes. All in all we like it. The ride is stiff but tolerable. It is an absolute blast off road. It is also very good in the snow. We typically average about 20mpg.

My experience with American vehicles tells me that they will begin need major repairs at or about 70,000 miles. My Jeep Cherokee is no different. I have 69,500 miles and will pickup my vehicle and its repair tab of about $1000 tomorrow. No repairs were due to negligence -- they were due to normal wear and tear (power steering, power window and front end). My last American vehicle was from the 1980's and my next probably won't be until the 2080's! Additionally, electrical features stink. I've have repetitive problems with a speaker wire crimping in the driver's side door and a repetitive yet intermittent problem with passenger side power window.

It's been 4 years since new, it had some good times, had alot of bad. At about 20k mile, driveshaft fell off resulting in two weeks in the shop. At about 50k miles, speedometer gained a mine of its own, spent 3 days in the shop and $300 for a new computer. Currently and for the third time, oil pressure gauge is not functioning correctly. Will be visiting the dealership for the 7th time in 6 months. Jeep gets about 14 mpg, very poor. Currently, the Jeep is at 57k miles. The 4.0L does the job well. Command- Trac 4WD is poor on the streets but great off-roading and deep snow. Trak- lok differential offers excellent traction in 2WD.

I AM NOT SATISFIDE! This jeep was good for about 4 months mialige 118,000 to curently 123,000 miles. Resently I`v had some major scairs. The engine on and off shakes the car. I can tell because normaly it would be a smoother feeling. At about 20 to 40 mph the car will leack forwars vilontly and will not produce power for 10 to 25 seconds. DO NOT GET THIS CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!
