The Tucson sits in the middle of Hyundai's sizable SUV lineup. It's larger than the Venue and Kona but smaller than the three-row Santa Fe and Palisade. Like most of its SUV siblings, the Tucson is a competitive SUV. The hybrid version is one of our favorite small SUVs, and the non-hybrid version is similarly impressive, with the lower trim levels representing solid value. There's also the separately reviewed Tucson Plug-in Hybrid. The Tucson was refreshed last year with updated styling, new tech features and more standard features. For 2026, Hyundai updated the Tucson's trim level lineup, but its features stayed the same.

Driving experience

How does it drive? The Tucson Hybrid is a standout athlete in the hybrid SUV class. The steering is responsive, and the vehicle is composed and stable when driving around sharp corners. The hybrid powertrain is a willing sprinter too. In Edmunds' testing, the Tucson Hybrid zipped from 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds, making it the quickest in the class.

The Tucson Hybrid is also easy to drive. The automatic transmission is eager to downshift when you need a burst of speed. We also like the strong brakes and smooth blending of electric power and the gas engine.

One of the Tucson Hybrid's greatest attributes is its smooth ride on the road. It simply glides on road surfaces of all kinds, and it approaches luxury SUV levels of comfort due to the supple suspension. Considering the Tucson Hybrid's good handling capabilities, this is quite an achievement.

Outward visibility is nearly unobstructed, and our test vehicle came with several helpful camera views. We also liked the smooth adaptive cruise control. The lane keeping system's steering assistance can be overly intrusive sometimes, but ultimately we're fans of Hyundai's driver assist features.

Comfort

How comfortable is it? The Limited trim's plush front seats have upscale surfaces and supportive cushions that are a step above the competition. There's more lateral and lumbar support than in the flat seats found in some rivals, though the Tucson's seats aren't overly tight or confining. They're not quite as good as the seats in some luxury SUVs we test, but these are among the best you'll find in this class.

The large door openings make it easy to get in, and there's loads of passenger space. The wide range of seating adjustments allows you to find your ideal position, and in the rear there is room to stretch your legs — even for 6-footers — and the seatbacks recline.

You will notice some wind noise inside the cabin at times, but otherwise, not much exterior noise makes its way inside. We also like the climate system's quick and effective heating and cooling capability.

Got small kids? Parents will enjoy the spacious backseat area, which easily provides room for bulky rear-facing infant seats. Anchors are hidden between the seat cushions, but they're easy to find and reach.

In-cabin tech

How’s the tech? There is an impressive set of technology features available in the Tucson Hybrid. The navigation system has easy-to-read maps and directions. The screen quality is also high, and it doesn't wash out in direct sunlight. Your smartphone will be easy to connect to the touchscreen through wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. There is a surplus of high-power USB-C charge ports, plus an available wireless charging station.

How’s storage and cargo? The Tucson Hybrid's cargo space is roomy, measuring 38.7 cubic feet behind the second row of seats. That's among the best in the small hybrid SUV class. The Hyundai also has a low liftover height and a flat floor. Levers mounted to the wall will allow you to fold the second row of seats flat.

There's decent space in the center armrest bin to store small items, plus a bonus shelf for the front passenger right on the dash. The cupholders can hold big water bottles too.

Is it a good value? When you step back and look at the whole package, the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid presents a heck of a deal at its price. All the physical goods are there — strong horsepower figures, decent fuel economy, and loads of passenger room. The interior materials are of a surprisingly good quality, all of the technology works, and the driving experience is refined and comfortable. It's as well rounded as many hybrid SUVs in the luxury category.

Warranty coverage is the cherry on top. Hyundai offers a basic warranty of five years/60,000 miles and a powertrain warranty of 10 years/100,000 miles. Its rust coverage, roadside assistance, and three years of free maintenance are also second to none.

How’s the fuel economy? Most versions of the Tucson Hybrid are EPA-estimated at 36 mpg combined, which is great for an SUV but among the lowest for this hybrid SUV segment. It achieved 34 mpg on our mixed-driving evaluation route. It technically underperformed, but it is somewhat common for hybrids on our highway-heavy standardized drive route not to reach their EPA ratings. Driving it around town on daily errands, however, regularly returned 39 mpg or better.

The Tucson's exterior design has some neat elements to it, though some of our editors don't find the look particularly cohesive. But we do give the Tucson Hybrid credit for doing what it needs to do. It's smooth to drive and plenty practical. This is a hybrid that lets you know it's a hybrid in all of the good ways.

The 2026 Hyundai Tucson is one of those rare mainstream SUVs where supply is plentiful and buyers are already paying about $1,100 below sticker.

You can save about $1,100 off MSRP on average, and there are no general customer rebates right now. Discounts are fairly consistent across the lineup. The Limited stands out as one of the stronger value plays at about 3.7% off sticker.
New inventory is strong at 31,834 vehicles nationwide, which gives you real selection. The SEL Plus, SEL, and SE are easiest to find, while the Hybrid Night is extremely scarce with just 8 new vehicles listed.

The 2026 Hyundai Tucson is a small crossover SUV. The standard gas-engine version is available in SE, SEL, XRT, SEL Premium and Limited trim levels that are powered by a 187-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The hybrid version is available in Blue SE, SEL, SEL Convenience, and Limited trims that use a hybrid powertrain that pairs a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor for a total of 231 horsepower. The new SEL Premium trim is the way to go for budget-minded buyers because you get an impressive list of features at a reasonable price. As for the pricier hybrid model, go for the SEL Convenience trim. It costs a little more than the non-hybrid SEL Premium, and you lose a few features, but you get significantly more power and better fuel economy.

The Kia Sportage is the Tucson's corporate cousin that offers the same non-hybrid, hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines. It has similar tech features and is a smart choice for a small SUV. If cost is your biggest priority, stick with the affordable SE and SEL standard gas-only trims. But our biggest complaints about the non-hybrid engine are its slow acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The hybrid version adds a lot more power and is one of the quickest in its class. The Blue SE and SEL hybrid trims cost about $3K more and provide a much peppier engine with about 10 more mpg in combined driving. The premium is worth it if it fits your budget. However, midlevel non-hybrid trims like the XRT and SEL Premium cost about as much as the SEL and SEL Convenience hybrid trims and only come equipped with a few more features. The Tucson Plug-in Hybrid is much pricier but can potentially save you a lot of money on gas if you charge it daily.
