Owned the car brand new for about 7 years now and so far it has been good to us. A few recalls were taken care of warranty but one major repair expense outside of warranty was the rack and pinion ($1k/incld labor) since it was leaking heavily from the passenger side. Also, there are traces of oil leaking from the head valve gaskets after 90k. Regular oil maintenance for both engine and transmission have been done religiously according to recommended intervals. I'm expecting to pay another $1k @100k for spark plug and valve cover gasket replacement work. It seems that these cars were designed to crap out after warranty and when you're done paying off the loan...SMH Update as of 3/16/17: (~120k) Despite the issues we've experienced in the past. Our car is still going strong and still our daily driver that fits our family's needs. Keeping up with the regular maintenance makes sure of that. This vehicle goes out on 8 hour road trips through the mountains at least twice a year and haven't had to use AAA yet. (Knocks on wood) :-) Update as of 3/2018: Car is still running smooth. Rear shocks need replacing but that is from normal wear and tear. The gas gauge experienced problems and after replacing the fuel sender units the gauge still does not read properly. Besides those issues the car still runs and I believe we will run this car to the ground despite the important convenience of having to know how much of gas you have left in your tank accurately. SMH

Before I bought this SUV I did my homework, looked at all issues and prices and many pages of reviews from other owners, I love the wider stance it has, my '04 Jeep Liberty limited was narrow and very cramped, the A/C is great, shifting is smooth, I bought a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 2.7liter FWD 4speed automatic tranny, it rides smooth, MY husband is 6'2 and he said it's like sitting in a recliner, quiet cabin, rocking sound system, great location of vents, for passengers, amazing storage space, (my aunt just bought a 2015 Cadillac SUV and it has small storage area no spare tire or jack yuk and it feels cramped) when she seen my SUV she was amazed at the room and the price I got it used in 6/2016 with 67403 miles on it for $9500 I have searched around and found I got a HELL of a DEAL... Super happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! December 2017, still enjoy the car. I have about 108000 miles now from 67000 when I bought it. No issues, still runs and drives great... UPDATE DECEMBER 17TH 2016 Still love my 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe, very roomy have used it for myself and in-laws grocery shopping and have tons of room... no mechanical issues, rides straight and smooth.

IMO this is the best SUV you can get for the money, especially if buying used. The cargo capacity is outstanding, including generous under-floor storage, the ride is very quiet, the mileage is surprisingly good (no worse than my previous Honda CR-V - a much smaller and noisier vehicle). With the Santa Fe you get the feeling of a refined, almost luxurious vehicle but with a bargain pricetag.

Bad Rack and Pinion

Had to replace rack and pinion three times. Also, inside door liners, had to replace rubber twice. For all those who own this vehicle, make sure you have the rack and pinion checked. If the steering wheel doesn't stay straight once it's aligned, it could be your rack and pinion.

Best car I've owned

I've owned 5 cars in my lifetime (Mitsubishi, another Hyundai, Volvo, Honda). This has been the best vehicle I've owned thus far. I purchased it used with 15K miles on it for $17500 and the dealership kept the 100K mile warranty on it. I just recently hit 110K miles on it in early 2016, and I've only had 2 problems with it since purchase. The CD player recently stopped working (stuck CD) and the coolant system blew out and required a complete replacement at 30K (warranty covered). Despite those 2 issues, I'm still in love with this car. I have been with it in Florida driving around the city and frequent tropical storms without problems, it has taken me to Virginia/DC/Connecticut and handled the snow/ice very well (despite being 2WD), and currently is enduring Texas weather without problems. It comfortably fits 4 people (5 if the person in the middle is small).

Nothing but problems

We have had our 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe for seven years. In that time it has been a very costly car to maintain. Within the first two years we had two major fuel issues, the leather interior started to peel away in areas, a battery that didn't even make the 2 years before dying suddenly and tires that were done long before the warranty. The amount that we would have gotten on the pro-rate for the battery and tires was so minimal that we went outside of Hyundai to replace and got better warranties with longer life. Within the past year we had a low fuel sensor issue that I have come to learn is not uncommon for Hyundai products and a high ticket repair (over $800). Now its the rack and pinion steering (over $1400). I'm sure that some owners are fortunate and don't have the lemon issues that we have had. We have a Honda that is 14 years old have never had these issues. Having to deal with so many issues I know that I will never purchase another Hyundai automobile. Considering the price that we paid for it, one would think that the quality would be better.

We purchased our santa fe used off of an older gentleman whose wife had passed away and it was her car. It had 39000 miles on it when we purchased it and 5 years later it is still going strong with 140000 miles on it. It has been hit by deer and a few horses and the insurance company wouldn't total it so we had repairs done and keep on going. Everything still works great on it, just like it did when we first purchased it except for the gas gauge doesn't always but as far as dependability it definitely has our vote! Would highly recommend! We travel a lot with our kids for sports and never had any problems!

I've owned my Hyundai Santa Fe for two years and it is at 204,000 miles with no signs of giving up anytime soon! I got it with about 161,000 miles and was a little concerned because I hadn't had a car with that many miles on it but I took a chance. The ride is good and even after 200,000 miles, it has a ton of power. I haven't had any issues with the car either. The only issue I've had is with the gas tank sensor, so I have to go off of my milage to get an estimate of how much gas I have, but most Santa Fe's of my year have that problem.

I got this car in August of 2015. I traded in my old 2005 Chevy Aveo for something large enough for my growing family and this car was the first one I saw. So far, we've had no problems. The only thing I noticed was the little skip in the car if you start breaking for a red light. I'm not entirely sure if it's just because of an internal problem or if the breaks need a readjustment but I am in love with this car!!

Two Years and Still Happy

We've had this vehicle for almost two years now (48,000 KM) and still love it. It looks great and we've had zero service issues with it thus far. The only two small issues that we have with it would be the not-too-great gas mileage and a bizarre 'helicopter' type sound in the car if one rear window is open when there are no others open - strange problem, but we quickly learned not to do that! We are still very happy with the vehicle and have since recommended it to others who have also bought a Santa Fe!

I bought my Santa fe from a dealer with 62000 miles on it. I just hit 100000 milrs after 6yrs of ownership, battery, brakes, tires stabilizer bars in front. That is it....Most reliable SUV i have ever owned. Now that i have no car payments i am keeping as long as possible. No sign of it not being reliable. The AWD is absolutely amazing in all weather, deep snow, beach sand. It does it all. Mostly driven in NY and PA, now in Florida and only use awd on beach. No rust, couldn't ask for more. Highly recommend it, so we bought another Hyundai, this time a used 2016 Tuscon, that now has 55000 on it, drive both daily with no issues. Love our Hyundai SUV'S!!!❤❤

I purchased this vehicle used and by far my favorite. I have owned all types of vehicles and this is by far my favorite in terms of performance and luxury. My girlfriend has a BMW X3 and the Hyundai compares in terms of luxury and performance. In fact if you look at the specs the two vehicles are almost identical. The only difference is the BMW feels "tighter" steering wise. Overall plenty of power and luxury. The seats are comfortable and the ride is extremely smooth and quiet. Getting about 20.7 mpg in primarily suburban driving and over 25 on a long trip to and from the Jersey shore.

Hyundai 2 nd generation 2.7 l cvvt started in 2007, which has more noticeable power than the initial generation engine. Owned for 14years with no major problems @107 k miles. (owned 2003 model for 146 k miles & just had timing belt changed after 80 k miles).I do most of the maintenance diy but will have my private aes mechanic replace the timing belt kit. very pleased with this model . there are reports out there that say 2.7 l engines don't have enough power, but the second gen engines produce 185-194 hp,depending on the model &year.i have the fwd, with less weight, & burns rubber, if given too much throttle from a stop & has excellent passing gear power. The AWD models are heavier, so probably a bit slower. Maintenance is important, but like all mechanical things, anything is liable to break, no matter what make or model you buy. forward to 2020, 99,000 mi. +. Santa Fe still runs great @ 12 yrs. I just had a timing belt kit replaced, being I've decided to keep the Santa Fe.

Ex-owner of a Pontiac Grand Prix I was somewhat apprehensive about getting a Santa Fe. However after 2 months I have no regrets at all in having purchased the Santa Fe. The interior is spacious and well made. The exterior is an eye opener compared to the previous models. The drive is smooth and very comparible to the Grand Prix which was superb. The handling is very good. No regrets what so ever would recommend it to anybody.

Our Santa Fe is now 14 months old and since the first day we bought it we have had a vibration when driving well after serving Hyundai with a 3rd and final attempt letter they are going to put the 3rd set of tires on it Seriously this is a bunch of crap. The experience has not been a good one at all Thank you Prime Toyota in Scarborough Maine this is the 3rd car from them in 2 years the others a Tucson and Toyota Camry were great and paid for. But they dropped the ball on this one even after calling the owner himself. They have done nothing to help us we had to go to another Hyundai Dealer and they and the Hyundai Rep are helping Just buy the vehicle back or give us a normal

My husband and I bought the 2008 Hyundai in September. We put 10,000 down on it. Well, It has had nothing but problems. The transmission slips, there is a rattling noise coming from the engine, the wheel alignment does not stay in place, gas mileage sucked, and when the kids hooked up there dvd systems or game systems in the back it would cause a frying sound thru the speakers. We traded it in today and lost almost 18,000 on it. We lost all of our investment and only had it 6 months. We bought this 2008 as a demo with low miles. I will never look at or consider buying another one.

My 1st Hyundai, will definitely not be the last! Looked at CR-V, RAV-4, Jeep and more, chose Santa Fe for a few reasons: best looking, best size, best price, best warranty, on and on and on. Bought as a program car, best vehicle purchase I ever made. Traded 03 Chev Trailblazer (possibly the WORST vehicle ever made!) and have been nothing but happy with the Santa Fe. North Dakota winters are no problem with AWD. Fuel economy not exactly what I expected (or told by dealership) but not too bad. Just drove the family to central Florida and back with no complaints.

My family and I are pretty pleased with our purchase. The suv is roomy but also small enough to handle & park easily. We love it. We had an easy time purchasing the auto from the dealer but the dealer once we went off the lot didn't care what happened after that. We had two incidents happen as we drove off the lot and one has not been addressed yet by them... yet they state that the autos go thru a 37 pt inspection. Will probably not buy from this dealership again, but will definitely buy another Suv like this one as we are enjoying it. After several years owning this car, I love most of it. What I don't like is while driving it is hard for me to see around the mirrors on the side, they are situated where they block my vision seeing to the immediate left/right of car. Most mirrors are not so bulky & not situated where your vision is interrupted. Hard to explain but it is very annoying when I have to push myself up to see what I need to when turning. Not the best riding Suv or auto I have had but seats are comfortable to a degree.

I have had a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe for two years, and four times it has spontaneously stalled in the middle of the road (no gas, no power brakes, no power steering). It is a terrifying experience and a potentially life-threatening safety hazard. Because this is an intermittent issue, no mechanic or dealership has been able to replicate the issue over the short periods of time that they drive the vehicle, and they've therefore said there is nothing they can do. We reached out to Hyundai Corporate, and they put us through a hellish month and a half long process to finally tell us that because the dealer couldn't replicate the problem (which we told them in the first place), they won't assist in diagnosing and repairing the issue. The process was particularly frustrating because our assigned case manager never answered a single one of our countless phone calls or responded to any of the numerous voicemails we left her - it really felt like they were intentionally ignoring us and making the process more difficult so that we would give up. We have found many similar complaints about '08 Santa Fes online (and a class action lawsuit that Hyundai settled regarding the 2010-2012 Santa Fes - different model year, same generation - for the exact same issue we were experiencing), indicating that this is a problem inherent to the design of this vehicle. I will NEVER buy another Hyundai again due to the horrendous customer service, and would strongly advise anyone considering a Hyundai to avoid this manufacturer at all costs and avoid the fear and frustration we've had to deal with. I know a selling point of Hyundai is the warranty, but I will warn you that you do not want to deal with their customer service department.

After 4000 miles on a Honda CRV. The Santa Fe was the absolute worse vehicle I have ever owned and Hyundai is the worse car company I ever dealt with. Transmission was defective and they would not recognize its problems or fix it. Bad design and quality problems. They may allege to have the best warranty in the business but that is because they won't fix any problems and keep saying that is the way the vehicle was made to operate. Never buy a Hyundai again ......ever!

SRS Issues Following OCS Recall Fix

The vehicle was serviced June 2013 for the following recalls: SRS PODS and Stop Lamp Switch Replacement. After the recalibration of the SRS PODS system, the Airbag (AIR) warning lamp in the dashboard remained on. The front seat belt tensioner was replaced free of charge, but 9 months later the AIR light came on again and the entire seat needs to be replaced at a cost of $2400 plus tax and labor. I never had any problems with the SRS system until after the recallibration of the SRS PODS system. Prior to this, the transmission and Hydraulic Brake Control Unit were replaced in 2009. The noise thought to be the transmission (prob. valves) went away around 50,000 miles.

So many problems I hope I can remember them all.At 33k miles I started having problems with the vehicle shutting off when trying to accelerate from a complete stop. Not a great problem to have when turning in front of oncoming traffic. After many days Hyundai finally found a pin loose under the dash and also a bad catalytic converter. At 45k the fuel level sensor went bad causing a inaccurate fuel gauge. At 49k a new stalling problem started. When slowing down all the engine and all electrical would shutdown forcing me to drift to the side of road and attempt to restart. That was the last straw in my Hyundai nightmare.I promptly traded the lemon in and couldn't be happier having something reliable now. Will never purchase a Hyundai ever again or suggest buying one to a friend or family member.

I was about to buy Nissan Rogue, but after I drove it found it underpowered. I love and look forward to driving it. Easy to maneuver, small turning circle. I have 1,300 miles, 2/3 highway, with 18.5 to 19.5 mpg average. Sticker price was $25,000 including destination charge. Got it for $18,950. Love the underfloor storage. Great looks inside and out. Blue interior lights are awesome.

I was hesitant about buying a Hyundai vehicle because of their past reputation. Liked the look of the redesigned Santa Fe and read positive reviews so decided to purchase and very glad I did. The Santa Fe has been a reliable and enjoyable vehicle for over 15 months. The ride is a little firm but not overly jarring and there is a rattle somewhere in the back that comes and goes. The local Hyundai dealer has been very pleasant to deal with for scheduled services. So far I'm very pleased with the vehicle.

228,000 Miles and Counting...

2 of 2 people found this review helpful

Bought this 2008 Hyundai AWD V6 Limited with about 43,000 miles on it in 2014. We have really put it through its paces the past 10 years. We live at 7,500 ft above sea level and the high school our kids attend is in the ski town across the valley a half hours drive away. We have put 18,500 miles A YEAR on this car and now it has 228,000 miles. GOOD CAR! To be fair, I am into preventative maintenance and believe if you take care of a decent car, it will take care of you. I have done the suggested maintenance and had regular full synthetic oil changes, coolant changes, tranny fluid changes, and tune ups. No major repairs needed; just tires, rotation of tires, alignment, oil changes, brakes, a few batteries and new shocks. All of these items are expected over so many miles. The short review is: This car is powerful, roomy, reliable and has excellent safety features. Find one that is well maintained and buy it. The long review with Pros & Cons: Cons: as with all cars, there are some well known problems but nothing that can't be addressed. 1.) The Infotainment Center is Janky AF and if you need the map to navigate or if you are afraid it might eat your favorite Rush CD (remember CD's?) then skip this vehicle. If, however, you navigate just fine without a computer (or prefer to use your fancy phone) then this car is fine. 2.) The relay for the gas gauge went out at around 150,000 miles so the gauge no longer indicated how much gas the tank contained. No problem, we just used the dash board trip indicator (reset at each fill up) to indicate when we were getting close to empty (always filling up well before we reached 400 miles). Eventually we could no longer pass emissions because of the code for the gas gauge so we were forced to order the part on Rock Auto and had it installed by our trusty mechanic at a near by family owned shop (back seats need to be removed to do so). We had the fuel pump replaced while were had the seats out because the original pump had gone over 250,000 by that point and had given us zero problems but 250,000 is a lot of miles so we figured it was wise!) . 3.) Every 65,000 to 75,000 you will need to replace the valve cover gaskets. You may smell the burning oil and that will let you know it is time! This became so routine that I considered it to be part of maintenance with this vehicle. It was covered by warranty 2 of the 3 times we have had it done. Check the recalls, you Hyundai Dealer will replace the gaskets and install a new alternator with a shield on it to protect it from the inevitable gasket leak. 4.) PLASTIC HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY will YELLOW with time and night driving will become very problematic! Solution? we spent $500 to have new lamps put in and the lenses professionally polished (I did try a home polish kit first and it helped a little but in the end a professional polish and new LED (?) Xenon (?) lamps needed for safe night driving). Keep in mind our high altitude means serious radiation and plastics do not do well up here. Perhaps at sea level you will not have such a problem with these lights. Perhaps you don't drive at night. I wish the lenses were glass, but they are plastic and at least we can still get parts and upgraded lamps to fix this problem (when I say "lamp" I am referring to the light bulb itself) 5.) NOT super fuel efficient. This is a 4,022 pound car and is VERY SAFE to drive but not cheap on gas. For us, it averages 22 mph. I'd rather walk away from a crash then pay less for gas! Do you have a family you love? A dog you care about? Unread books at home? Then you want to walk away from that crash. 11 AIR BAGS, All Wheel Drive and Electronic Stability Control, Anti-Lock Brakes...these features saved our bacon in a freak hail storm on vacation in Colorado one summer. A car pulling a pop-up trailer heading toward us on an undivided highway lost control and came into our lane. Evasive Maneuvers and 2 years of driving in Wisconsin Winters combined with ESC, and a wide wheel base to keep us upright when we spun a 360. I did not have time to push the AWD LOCK button, so after that incident, I super glued a big rubber button to he AWD button that I can find without taking my eyes off the road if such a surprise incident occurs again. Pros: THIS CAR HAS POWER! No wimpy 4 cyl engine here, this V6 is naturally asperated (no stupid Turbo), and will give you 242 HP at 6,000 RPM. That means it can haul you and your husband and kids with seating for 5 (but you can still park in small spaces at Trader Joe's easy!) and haul all your groceries (or your Dog and Camping Gear!) and STILL get out of the way of that speeding semi on the highway, no problem! The seats and steering wheel adjust so many ways so any height of person can be comfortable. There are lots of features in the Limited we love like heated seats and fog lights, plenty of cargo space and it even has a very generous storage space under the back cargo area we affectionately call "The Basement" with enough space to accommodate 4 stuffed Bug-out-Bags and extra gear for winter emergencies all stowed unseen and out of the way below the rear cargo space. More to love: FULL SIZE SPARE! Good Sound System, Excellent tight Front End even after all these miles on switch backs. NO PROBLEMS with this drive train ~ the engine is excellent (the gasket problem is the only one we have had and easy to get parts for though labor intensive), transmission is EXCELLENT and still shifts smooth, AWD still works beautifully and while not as grippy as our 1998 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport, it has never failed to get us home safe in terrible weather (and we get lots of terrible weather!). There is a selector for 5 lower gears, even on the 2WD versions of this car and you can easily select first gear for up to 10 miles an hour in loose shale or snow packed conditions, 2nd at 20 mph, 3rd for 30 mph, etc. Also excellent for engine breaking if you are heading downhill in slippery conditions ~ you can use this gear selector to slow down without touching the brake peddle in icy or wet conditions. Wonderful feature! Lean how and when to use it, it works so well! I'm no fan of leather seats (slippery!) and I don't have any use for the Moon Roof (but it is tight and gives us no problems, still works great!) and I don't need the map screen thingy (I know where I'm going and I can also stop and ask for directions;) but some folks might like these superfluous features. To each their own. I like the RELIABILITY of this Vehicle, just like your wife: treat her like a Prize Race Horse, and she won't be a NAG! LADIES: Power is not GIVEN, it is TAKEN and this car has POWER. If you want to be safe, this is a good choice. If you can not find one with low miles, get one that has had good maintenance. The problems with this Year/Make/Model are Known and Manageable. No car is without problems so pick one that has manageable ones. I like this car so much that I just bought another (a 2010 Hyundai SF V6 2WD with 53,000 miles on it and good maintenance). However, I would NEVER BUY ANY Hyundai SF/Tucson/Kia etc after 2011. 2008/2009/2010 are all GOOD YEARS. The Hyundai company has done itself and us a disservice by putting smaller and smaller engines in these once safe and reliable cars. Now the changes they have made since 2011: easy to steal, low power, bad engine design (DO NOT BUY GDI Engines!), terrible safety problems (with SO MANY ways for the newer Hyundai/Kia to catch on fire!) . BUY a 2008 !

Happy with my Hyundai

I got a great deal on a year old Santa Fe with 14K miles, and very glad I bought it. The ride is very quiet and comfortable, and there's ample room for 4-5 people. It handles well and the 3.3 liter V-6 gives it plenty of power. I get ~24 mpg highway, and overall average 22 mpg, with about 70% highway driving. My '02 Subaru Outback averaged about 23 mpg, and considering the Santa Fe is larger, roomier and much more powerful, I'm happy with the mileage. The interior of the Hyundai feels fairly upscale, and it is SO much quieter than my Subie ever was. Considering the size, it has a remarkably tight turning circle. The Santa Fe is a great choice if you're looking for a mid-size crossover SUV!

I continue to be impressed with this vehicle. I was hesitant to buy based on Hyundai's old image with cheap cars. I have only had it for about a month and keep discovering things that impress me. For instance, the gas mileage for highway. level road, 65 mph is up to 30.4 mpg. And until I drove it in the dark, I did not realize how cool the dash lights and all other lighting on the console, steering wheel and armrests were this cool violet blue. The Infinity stereo system is overkill for me, but has nice sound. Nice road handling. I would highly recommend this vehicle.

I agree with previous posters, very bad transmission that definitely bogs and slips when cold. Hyundai has a horrible warranty service because they will always try to discount the problem. Poor quality. Gas mileage is about 20% lower than the sticker averages on the vehicle. Just another falsehood.

Never buy a Santa Fe again. It was brand new had it 1 week the AC tore up had to return it to dealership 1 year later the Throttle Sensor went out after taking it to the dealership 2 times and saying they couldn't find the problem. When it is in Idle in jumps and feels like its gonna quit all the time. Never again will I buy a Hyundai my first and last. I only get 17 miles to the gallon of gas.

Since purchasing my Santa Fe a year ago, I have had nothing but problems. Within 2 weeks I had to spend over $1500 on repairs, and that wasn't the end. The windshield was not placed in properly (apparently a common problem with these cars), causing the passenger side to have a large leak any time it rains. The gas gauge does not read properly, and will say the tank is empty a day after it is filled up. The seat heaters do not work (the passenger button controls the driver seat, and the passenger heater does not work at all). The a/c and heat are on constantly at full blast, there is no way to turn it down or off. I could go on about the problems I have had with this car, and unfortunately Hyundai will not cover any of the costs to repair these problems. I am counting down the days until I can buy a new one. I will never buy a Hyundai again.

Very disappointed in this car. I loved driving it in the beginning, but I've had to bring it in for service at least 5+ times since buying it for "check engine" light coming on. Car has also died on me twice. These issues should not be happening when a car is brand new. Dealership always tells me they can't find anything wrong with it. Even told them that I don't feel safe driving the car, and all they could respond with was "Well, you have roadside assistance available." (Not exactly the most comforting thing to hear). The dealership is now wanting to buy the car back due to their shortage of 2008 pre-owned Santa Fe vehicles. I am MORE than willing to sell it back to them!!

Traded a 99 CR-V EX AWD for this model. Came with Option Pkg 3, and everything I could have wanted. Driving on long trips is perfect, good/bad weather makes no difference. Unflappable road manners. Hauls everything I want to carry and has more than adequate power. Fun to drive and does well whether it's Manhattan traffic or cruising the turnpike. Added an iSimple Media Gateway to the excellent standard stock radio, allows iPod use via the steering wheel audio controls. iPod output is CD quality. I couldn't have asked for more in a vehicle.

This is definitely the best SUV that I can find for under 20K. The build quality is superb. I got 26 Mpg on high way. I really do not understand why some reviewers are complaining about fuel efficiency. At least I am very satisfied with 26 MPG. City MPG measure is not reliable. The control and handling is excellent, and the suspension is just right, stiffer than my Camry, which has a really soft suspension, but softer than CRV and Mazda. Cruise is comfortable.

I traded a SAAB 9-3 for my Santa Fe, and I couldn't be happier. It is very comfortable for long trips, and I average around 24 mpg on the highway. I have been getting around 19-20 in city driving. My only complaint is a buzzing noise from the rear whenever the engine hits 2100 rpm. I am sure it will be taken care of when I have my next service. This is my fifth Hyundai, and it is by far the best. I'm looking forward to buying a Genesis when my Santa Fe is paid off!

This vehicle has the absolute worse transmission I have ever experienced. It is defective between 1st and 2nd gear. What makes this more aggravating is that the dealers "acts" like nothing is wrong when the mechanics clearly experience the problem. They "allege" all the codes check out but this transmission has a slippage problem. I think Hyundai is out to screw the consumer and knows about his problem but will not acknowledge it. I am hoping that the government investigates some of the transmission complaints. This is a horrible vehicle.

The transmission stinks... period. Going from first to second gear is whatever you want to call it, a slip, hesitation, pause, delay but it is not normal and Hyundai knows about and continues to put a vehicle on the market with this transmission. It ruins the entire driving experience because when its cold, the hesitation is horrible from first to second gear and continues, at a milder rate, even when its warms up. Shame on you Hyundai this is a lemon law issue.

I did quite a bit of online research and a few test drives before purchasing. I've only had the Santa Fe for a week, but I am happy so far. It fits my needs. Auto transmission is quick to 2nd gear and smooth. Combined city and hwy driving is netting 21.5 MPG. Plenty of seat/shoulder room which was an issue in some other mid/compact SUV's. Interior looks sharp with the black leather and I love the blue accent lighting. The hidden storage area in the rear will be very useful for sports gear and more. The tweeters on the Infinity speakers have a high-pitched whine at low volumes. Wife and dealership can't hear it. I sat in another Limited w/Infinity speakers and whine is there too.

Before buying the Santa Fe we test drove the honda CRV, Toyota Rav 4, Saturn Vue, among many others. This car was far superior in EVERY category. Just listening to the doors closing, ring a sound of quality. Very happy with mileage, which is 21 in mixed city driving and 24 on the highway. Vehicle handles very well, road and engine noise are almost non-existent. It is very fast, shifts and brakes flawlessly and is extremely comfortable. We have had absolutely no problems since purchased last year and 20,000 miles ago. This is my wifes car, but I use it every chance I get as it is a much more fun to drive than my gas guzzling F150!

I just bought used 2009 Santa Fe pads and rotors replaced by dealer 1 wheel bearing 2 new tires after about a week it is making a clunking noise when braking and still getting the annoying howling noise from back dealer is going to replace the other wheel bearing but the clunking noise is a concern of course they said they didn't hear it any suggestions? I had my car for just over 2 years and the timing chain went still had bad wheel barings ended up junking the car (killed me) I loved my car feel the dealer sold me a car with issues. I still owed on it too... Bought a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. (Not my SUV) but a newer year.

Typically drive in metro environment and have averaged 22 mpg so far. I like the look of the vehicle and the bang for the buck! The interior is well thought out and the kids love the reclining rear seats. I like the hidden storage and that the driver's seat can be raised or lowered. Recently found the stability control works well (driving on icy roads) and that is something I couldn't do easily before (in a truck). Very happy with this Santa Fe and look forward to continued satisfaction.

First, mileage. I get about 24 on my daily commute, 16 strictly city, on cruise-control: 25.5 at 75mph, and 33 (!) at 60mph. Acceleration is more than adequate. If you really punch it you get torque- steer, but it isn't necessary to punch it. It's been trouble-free the first year/21,000 miles. The automatic climate system is MUCH better than the one in my Mercedes and the temperature readout much more accurate than my Mercedes.

I noticed on some reviews that there was great complaint about both the transmission and mileage on the 3.3L 5A equipped Santa Fe's. As a recent purchaser of a Santa Fe I have to say, if you people did not test drive the vehicle shame on you. I for one have no complaints. The transmission does not "slip" it is shifting into overdrive before shifting into the next gear. And so far in mixed driving I am averaging 17.4 MPG. There are no filed issues with the DOT or any other agency on the Transmission in addition to no complaints with Consumers Reports. I have a feeling those of you who are complaining have a case of buyers remorse.

Love my new Santa Fe - no transmission issues, great gas mileage (I read reviews here before buying and was concerned but I'm getting consistently around 23 for combined driving. The only complaint I have is with the infinity sound system- I also have the high-pitched whine at lower volumes that others have alluded to. It gets very annoying and the dealer has replaced my entire system to no avail. They seem to think the amp is overpowered for the speakers and causing feedback. At high volume, the sound is great. Overall fun car and I'm thrilled with the value.

We traded in a Dodge Grand Caravan for the Santa Fe and so far its been a great family vehicle. The kids really appreciate the pillar mounted air vents in the back. I had the dealer change the computer options to automatically lock all the doors at the lowest speed setting (this option is not enabled by default and is a free service). Mostly in-town driving at about 18 MPG and 1 highway trip at about 26MPG. Our tires we also over- inflated by about 10 pounds. Lowering to the recommended pressure helped improve the ride. Interior is well crafted and quite with the blue lights adding a cool accent for night driving. Very happy with this purchase so far!

Fuel economy not the greatest. But compared to a truck, its great. The only thing I'm not totally impressed by is the 2nd and 3rd row air ducts for heating. they don't blow as hard or as hot of air as the front do. Other than that it truly is the smartest and best buy I've done in a long time. Great job to Hyundai, and building vehicles that extremely reliable.
