Used 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe Consumer Reviews
Great car for the money
My husband and I fell in love with this car and also added crome rims to it. We like that it has enough leg room and is comfortable. The cargo area is spacious for a small SUV. We have had numerous Suburbans and Tahoes and now it was time for something smaller. The warranty was a big plus also. Only thing that I wish they had were power seats.
Realistic & previous Hyundai Owner
Great Value!!! Smooth Ride!!! Limited space for Big Driver & Passenger in front due to center console which constains leg room toward console. That's the only beef, otherwise, a fantastic, fun ride with the best warranty in the market! I'm over 300 lbs and I love it!

We test-drove the Ford Escape, Jeep Liberty, and Hyundai Santa Fe. We purchased the FRONT wheel drive Santa Fe, specifically to tow behind our motorhome, because we found out that you can't tow the 4-wheel drive Santa Fe unless all 4 wheels are off the ground (since it is actually an ALL- wheel-drive vehicle). What can I say about this great vehicle! Very well built, excellent exterior styling, user-friendly interior with comfortable seats, great rear seat legroom, ample storage space, smooth quiet ride, glides over the bad roads in Maine like they were newly paved, awesome Monsoon stereo system, excellent climate control, and of course the 10 yr/100,
good car
This has been a great car looks like a lexus, drives like a lexus, but doesn't have the price of the lexux
Excellent SUV
I've owned three Santa Fe's... 01, 03, and 04. This is by far the best and most fun to drive. I just passed 31k miles and have had zero problems.
BEST EVER
IVE OWNED 10 CARS IN MY 10 YRS OF DRIVEING.... NEVER HAVE I ENJOYED A CAR SO MUCH.... SO MUCH SO WE GOT A SECOND ONE.
my favorite Santa Fe
when i first seen the Santa Fe at a new auto expo i began to investigat them and found them to be such a perfect match for my needs that i set forth in my efforts to obtain one and have been happy with my decision
Love the exterior, inside so-so
I Love the exterior design, gas mileage, and overall performance BUT, the front seats are too small and uncomfortable. It is great to drive locally but, unfortunately, uncomfortable for longer trips.
Shopped for 1.5 years
I got th FW drive and the 3.5 Liter engine. I discovered that the FW drive can tow more weight than the 4WD. I don't plan to go off the road anyway and if the snow gets to deep I'll wait till it melts. You cant beet the warantee. 10yrs OR 100,000 miles power traine.
Frugal, but it's a workhorse
Traded in a Lincoln.Needed room for more hauling.lawn tools, retaining wall blocks,back-fill mat.topsoil and mulch just to name a few items. Also took it on vac. to beach, carried our stuff plus 2 other couples luggage, golf clubs, beach stuff and 4 coolers.Has proven to be a good all around SUV. Also great in the snow!
May be a repeat buyer
My 2001-5 speed Santa Fe sticker price was the same as some other used vehicles I looked at. Styling is sharp, interior space is best in catagory, performance and handeling are good for a small SUV
Love my Santa Fe
I had so many problems with my last car that having a santa fe is great!!! I have never had a problem or had to bring it in the shop (except for oil changes). I treat a car pretty rough, so I appreciate the fact that my Santa Fe is right there with me!
awesome
firm, tight, lotsa stuff at no extra cost, comfortable and plows thru this miserable winter with ease.....wish it came with a power seat but hey cant have everything at this low cost
Incredible reliable vehicle
Bought a gls v6 in summer of 2001, so far no problems at all with vehicle. It drives like a champ. Had a couple of minor censor recalls but thats all. Now have 41,000 miles on vehicle. Drives great in snow & very comfortable drive. We have two kids & strollers and everything fits well. Highly recommended
Best vehicle yet
It's comfortable, rides like a car, gets great mileage. It's a good looking SUV
Love this SUV
I love This car. Can't wait to drive it. It is the most confortable vehicle I have ever owned. The gas prices being what they are its costing more than I want for a week. I love the amount of room it has. I neede to carried something large and the ease of putting the back seat down was so easy.
Great SUV
This is a GREAT SUV with lots of room and a unbeatable warranty. I had a air conditiong compressor that failed two days after I received the vechile, but this was immediately corrected by the dealer.
Happy customer
It has every thing that I want in a SUV. I had a 2002 with a 2.7L engine and traded it for this 2004, 3.5L SUV Hyundai Santa Fe. This is a well built vehicle that will last a long time for me. It has a very good ride and smooth handling, and a good amount of power, and I approve of this make for anyone. The Buchanan Jenkins Hyundai in Bradenton is one of the better dealerships that I have dealt with.
Terrific performance
Better than I expeted
great vehicle
I love this vehicle. Everybody that drives my vehicle also loves it. I don't know why people who test this vehicle think it is underpowered. I have have brothers who have driven it and also feel it has plenty of power, unless you are pulling a large trvl trlr and then you should get a larger vehicle. Gas mileage on a trip is about 25/26 and all around about 19/20. I have 3 customer's who have purchased the vehilce after driving mine.
Love It!
This SUV is the best deal on the market today. It is great to drive and has a ton of power. The interior is very comfortable and the in dash 6- cd changer rocks! I can't say enough good things about this vehicle. I am a very happy customer.
Fast little Rocket!
Searched for a spunky little suv that gets exceptional gas milage. The 3.5 liter is the best choice of engine though you lose your gas milage of the smaller 6 or the 4 but definatly worth it back in power! Very nice design both interior and exterior. I would recommend the tan interior as it breaks up the colors and looks great!
longshot buyer
i took a longshot on this purchase, ive only had it a week not much to complain or compliment on at the this time. i own a 2002 trailblazer for 2 years and thats what i traded in for the santa fe. now being that i just left a 300 hp suv its hard to critized a smaller suv at this time but i am amazed that gas milelage only differs about 2 to 3 miles the santa should give more gas milage. so far so good first 400 miles hope the next 400 is something to brag on. (hello shreveport la.) LOL
Sante Fe Irritation
We are not getting near the gas mileage as listed by the manufacturer and find this very disappointing. We are irritated enough about it that we have discussed trading it in to get another (more expensive) vehicle of the same size which gets better mileage. Although I really do not like the exterior design we were pleased with the overall performance, interior looks, and handling. It has lots of pep.
Great new Santa Fa
After trying several others, was drawn back to the Santa Fe. Room & handling was great. Warrenty was major reason also.
Go for it
No question about it. So far this is a great vehicle at an even better price. The finish, trim, and fit are more than what one would look for in a higher priced vehicle.
Pathbreaking SUV from Hyundai Santa Fe
Great ride. Superb Interior features. Great Exterior Styling. Roomy Interior. Overall Value for Money.
great for the money
drove to mississippi 2 times without a single problem, good handling and gas milage was great, even with towing a boat the v-6 did the job and then some, I test drove a 4 banger and this I felt was almost dangerous as it was underpowered greatly, buy atleast the v- 6 and you will have no problem.
great car
I love my suv it is nice looking and runs like a charm
Great SUV
Great Car, Great Size!!
2003 Sante Fe
I have owned this vehicle for about 18 months. I am very pleased as is my family.
Excellent Buy For The Money
I *love* this vehicle! 3.5L engine is an absolute BEAST on the road, and I haven't had a single REAL problem with the car yet. Everything is modular inside, easy to work on and easy to find. I love the styling as well, though some seem to think it's "too aggressive". Then they go back to driving their Neons and Cavaliers. Well worth EVERY PENNY *AS LONG AS YOU PLAN TO DRIVE IT FOREVER* (Resale value doesn't hold as well on these)
Smooth Rider
I have driven the Santa Fe over 3000 miles and it has been just a gem. I have to keep reminding myself that this is not a $30K+ SUV. My longest trip was 400 miles and I arrived very refreshed which was a pleasant surprise.
100000 +
Being a single female that travels for a living I bought my sanya fa in 2001, it has proven to be the most dependable vechicle I've ever owned.I now have 109999 miles on it with only routine maintance. very user friendly and comfortable.looking forward to the next 100000.
So far so good!!
My lovely wife and I have just recently invested in a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. It's been almost a month now, and I haven't heard a peep from her regarding our current conveyance issues. While considering what I've endurred in the last year and a half; what with her constantly wearing her elbow out on my ribs and also putting unnecessary mileage upon my backside via her sneaker; I MUST SAY THAT... I AM PLEASED. Thanks for providing me an opportunity to vent my appreciation!! John Wolfe Orlando, Florida
I love my Santa Fe!
This vehicle rides like a car. I have a 6 cylinder GLS model. Since I have needed to take two long distance trips, I have had the opportunity to experience a smooth ride at 45 miles an hour, and at interstate speeds as well. This car rides as smoothly at 45 as it does at 70.
Better than my 3 past Ford Explorers!!!!
Love this SUV! I researched SUV's and tested them for three solid weeks before leasing this car! You can not beat the value of this SUV, and it is loaded!Leather, heat seats, moonroof and it is fast! Love the look and feel! I was hesitant of a Hyundai but could not pass this SUV up! I have leased three Ford Explorers for the past nine years and this car beats them all in all aspects! Ford cars have gone up in price and the quality down! Ford's service has also gone way down!! This car has quality at an unbeatable price and is better on gas! Faster than my Explorer and has a ten year warranty!
best vehicle i ever bought
THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE BEST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER BOUGHT. THE V6 ENGINE HAS GREAT POWER AND RUNS VERY QUIET. IT IS ALSO A COMFORTABLE RIDE NOT ONLY IN TRAFFIC BUT ON ROAD TRIPS. FUEL ECONOMY IS NOT THE BEST. I GIVE THIS VEHICLE A VERY HIGH RATING OVERALL.
An eye catcher with so so pick up
A fun car to own and drive. Suffers from a slight lack of decent accelaration power. Holds a ton, and will tow even more.
I Love This S.U.V.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This suv is unbelievable! The moment you sit in it you become part of the truck! Was an avid Jeep fan untill I drove this!
Excellent SUV for the money
I did a lot of looking and research before I bought my 2004 Hyundai. I've owned Broncos,Bronco IIs,S-10s and my last SUV was an Explorer. I was impressed by the ride, the amenities and that fantastic warranty. I love driving this car, and in our Minnesota winters, the car handles like a dream with TCS and AWD. I'm not crazy about my gas mileage, but all things considered ,I have one fine automobile, and am planning on buying the new Hyundai SUV due out in 2006.
I Love My Sante Fe!!!!!
I use this vehicle for work and it has to go everyday. It has been a real fun vehicle to drive. The reconfiguring of the cargo space is ample for carrying lots of cargo. I haul 250 Sunday newapapers easily. Steering is a little squirrely, my daughter says. It just responds to the slightest of turns.
Best Keep Secert
Best SUV you can get for the money. I'm an ex Honda owner and believe me, the Koreans have caught the Japanese.
Exellent
The Sante Fe is the best vechicle we have owned in a long time. It handles really well in the snow. And onlong trips it is very comfortable to ride in.The overall mechanical perforamce is exellent. We have had alot of people comment on the looks of it. And alot of people ask us all about it overall. My family loves this vechicle. Thank you for making suce a wonderful suv.Sincerly The Odland family.
I love it!!!!!
After many hours of searching for the replacement for our 98 Windstar mini- van. We decided that the best option was a smaller sized SUV. We have 2 children but no longer needed the room for car seats/strollers/etc... The Santa Fe was the perfect fit. I drive over 80 miles a day during the week...and probably another 80 combined on Sat & Sun...so I need something reliable and comfortable to drive. I'm thrilled with my choice!!
mine
No problems, had owned Hyundai xg350 and this is good car
?
awesome truck...i have a 2002 hyundai santa fe in the bronze color..4wd and a 2.7 liter v-6
fun to drive and a great value
I actually own a 2002 Santa Fe. It's one of the best cars I've ever owned. I live lived in upstate ny all my life. We had a horrible winter last year. Snow falls up to 24" 2 weeks in a row. Never once spun the tires. The car perfomred perfectly and I didn't even have to use the AWD. Impressed by that and its overall reliability. Great ride and economical for a SUV. I would not hesitate in buying another.
My dream car
I researched and research and test drove and test drove and finally settled on the Santa Fe. Boy am I happy. Her name is Carmen and she runs just like a dream. I am looking forward to many happy years driving her.
Great Vehicle, So far...
Purchased a 2004, 3.5, GLS AWD Santa Fe about a week ago. I'm sure we made the right choice. We looked at Ford Escape, Honda CRV, Tribute and RAV 4. None rode as comfortably. Very smooth handling. Feels solid, too. A few minor quibbles about the interior--the armrest is too low, the windshield's angle picks up some weird glare in certain sunlight conditions and the cup holders could be better placed. Of course if you've looked at the Santa Fe you know that gas mileage is terrible. But we liked the ride so much that we simply pledged to walk a little more and drive a little less to conserve some fuel.
