Transmission Design Error
When my husband decided to purchase this vehicle I was a little scepticle. We have had nothing but transmission leaking from this new car. As soon as I saw it I took it to the dealer and they stated there was no leak. So the very next day, the leak appeared and it got worse and worse. So now we are back at the dealership for the third time. I found out from reliable sources that there is a design flaw but I know no one is going to fess up to a flaw. I am very disappointed. Signed, Still Leaking with pictures and all.
Transmission Problems
We purchased our 2004 SF 3.5L GLS 4wd in April,2004 in Nevada from Planet Hyundai. With 1200 miles on it, we had to have the transmission replaced. Stevens Creek Auto Imports (An authorized dealer in San Jose, Ca.) had our vehicle for testing and seal replacement prior to putting in the new transmission. There is now a difference in the way the car drives. It used to have a big surge upon the initial acceleration (like a burst of power), but no longer. The freeway acceleration seems to have also diminished. The verdict is still out on the vehicle because we just got it back from the dealership.

HYUNDAI DOESN'T CARE!!!!!!
WARNING!!!! DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT BUY A SANTA FE. I HAVE A 2001 SANTA FE THAT IS NOW GOING IN FOR SERVICE FOR A FOURTH TIME IN 10 WEEKS AND LESS THAN 5000 MILES.
Love my Santa Fe
I love my Santa Fe. I have a bad back so I traded in my Tiburon for the Santa Fe and what a joy. All the horse power needed when needed. Awsome gas milage around town and on trips to Maine on highway. The back seat fits two good sized adults comfortably, with lots of leg room . I am 5'8" tall and have no problem ridingf in the back seat and it is really comfortable. The only negative is my fiance` is 6'3" and he has a bit of trouble with head room that is the only problem we have had . In my eyes this is a best buy all the way can't go wrong!!!
Santa fe
My santa fe has major transmission problems! I have already had the transmission replaced and will probably have to have it done again. Whenever it shifts, it bucks and isn't happy. When going from reverse to drive it has a very lengthy delay. My vehicle also makes a thump noise in the rear when backing up sound like a brake letting loose. While I like the look of the vehicle, I am not happy. The factory as well as the dealer says this if normal, I say this is crap.
Love mine!
This is an afforadble car that is so worth the money! It's roomy and comfortable and fun to drive!
My Santa Fe
I have had my Santa Fe for (4) years and overall it has been a good experience. The vehicle has been reliable with no major maintenance work required. It is fun to drive and just as stylish as some of the more expensive SUV's on the road. My ownership experience was always very good when I dealt with Arnold Hyundai never had a problem. I went to Suburban Hyundai in Troy, MI after Arnold Hyundai moved far from my home. I do not like that dealership, so back to Arnold (Victory) Hyundai I go!
5 speed Transmission
I'm less than impressed with the shifting, especially from 1st gear to second. It is not precise and hesitates before shifting. Dealer said this is normal for this car.
Lots of Trouble
I have had nothing but trouble with my Santa Fe. Since the day I bought this vehicle, it has been in the shop approx. 15 times. It's constantly a sensor, other problems. It has even slung a rod already and had to have the engine replaced. This is not an exaggeration. ANd the dealership that I have to deal with on service is just terrible. They hate me and I hate them. lol
We Love our Sante Fe
This is my wifes vehicle and her 3rd Hyundai. She reports that this is the best vehicle, meaning safety and fun to drive, than any other we have had. I am so impressed with the Sante Fe, that I will no longer buy my Sable LS and want a Sante Fe as well. And I have never liked SUV's. I have always been a sedan guy.Imagine my surprise. This is a great vehicle and you cannot beat the warranty. As a loyal customer, my wife was actually able to get a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper coverage. Talk about Driving without worries.
Hyundai Santa Fe AWD 3.5L
The car is a great value for the money. It comes with every possible bell and whistle for about $22,900. I now have about 13000 miles on the vehicle. When delivered, the car had a transmission leak. The entire transmission had to be replaced. It was replaced with little or no resistance from the dealer or the manufacturer. There have been no other problems with the SUV which is very enjoyable toown
The Best SUV EVER!
I love my Santa Fe! My parents have one, and when I was looking for a new car, I thought nothing else besides buying my very own one. GO BUY ONE!
My First SUV
This was my first SUV, my prior veh was much smaller. This is easy to get in and out of, great for grocery shopping and hauling kids around. The seats could be a little more comfortable for long trips. Overall, I stay local with the car and absolutely love it!
2004 Hyundai Santa Fe
My wife and I love this vehicle. Great value for the money. We got it new from factory only 6 miles on it. Great for traveling and long trips. We have auto transmission, as well as the space is great especially for a man who is bigger like me. It has some pep for a 4 cyl and gas mi is about what I'd expect. It even comes with a 1st aid kit and full size spare is great. I get regular oil changes and have not had one major issue except for the common ones.. Tires, brakes etc. Would not trade my vehicle in for anything. Got extended warranty (value?) for 7/100.
faulty engine
I like the car and it is good for road trips. lots of room and standard features. That's a plus. I had the engine replaced at 13,000 miles and thats after not doing anything about it because the dealer kept telling me there was nothing wrong, but the car was shaking a lot. Now I have 22,000 miles and its doing the same thing.
Worst Vehicle I've ever had!
The moment I drove this vehicle off the lot, I've been having problems. Molding on the hood is coming off again; no pickup whatsoever; braking is poor; gray panel across bottom of vehicle chips very easily; back door of vehicle is way tooooo heavy. Previously had a Honda CRV -- the best! Mileage is terrible. Not sure what good I can find. Every week, if it's not one thing, its another.
Poor gas Mileage
Car does not perform as expected.
2000 miles a month cant be wrong
Idrive alot 2k a month and all over while i am 6'5 the vehicle was not designed with me in mind but to hop in and go 375 miles in a few hours i find to be better than my old 4-runner and it gets better mileage to i would reccomend this vehicle to anyone who wanrs quality with a great warranty and great value for the dollar
Everyone needs a Hyundai
I am a college student and my Hyundai is good on fuel and the price is not so bad. I can have a comfortable and nice SUV and still have a little money left for tuition.
POOR PERFORMER
The vehicle did not meet my expectations and had many expensive, time consuming mechanical difficulties.
What a deal- Great car at a great price!
I started out wanting to buy a Toyota Highlander. Did a LOT of research & everything that came standard on my Hyundai Santa Fe were upgrades on the Highlander and would have cost me $5000 more. I am extremely satisfied with my Santa Fe & highly recommend it to anyone looking for this type of SUV. Even my car snob brother-in-law who works for Honda USA is impressed with the style and quality of the Santa Fe. It's very affordable, drives great and looks great. I get 18 mpg in town, wish that was more but not too bad. Buy one, you won't regret it.
Best SUV ever
Newly bought after owning others. Love the quality for the best price of a new mid-size SUV. The kids and dog love it!
Jake
Its well thought out design
Wonderful SUV
I have had my Hyundai a year now and could not be more satisfied. I really like the 10 year warranty. I like it also because I feel safe driving it. I will by another one when its time to buy again.!
My Santa Fe
Better than the Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute, and Saturn Vue which we test drove. 6 cylinder acceleration is OK.
MOVE OVER JAPAN
THIS IS THE BEST VEHICLE FOR THE MONEY & FOR DRIVING. HYUNDAI GIVES THE BEST OF EVERYTHING IN THIS VEHICLE. STYLING, PERFORMANCE, FUEL ECONOMY AND ALL THE EMENITIES YOU COULD WANT.
Drive, you decide!
Prior to purchasing this vehicle, we looked at Subarus. As I was on my fourth and was very pleased with the vehicle. I did a lot of research on both vehicles and we felt as far as value goes, we could not go wrong with our purchase of a 2003 Santa Fe LX AWD. The warranty told us that the Company was going to be here down the road. Hyundai Industries, has a lot of money behind them and as soon as they find their niche in the marketplace, you will find this vehicle, retailing for at least 3000.00 more.
great
this vehical is the best SUV I have drive. It is small but roomy it is fast but safe it is perfect for someone who wants 4 wheel drive but ot a lot of car!
I love my Santa Fe!
I have a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe LX model that is awesome. One of our favorite features are the heated leather seats. We just love everything about our new SUV. It's quiet inside, nice ride, plenty of room. Took it on vacation and put a car carrier on top, it was wonderful. Like all it's features, can't think of anything Hyundai missed.
SanteFe...rocks
Although it lacks some of the amenites of other top end SUV's, even fully loaded...who cares...besides who really wants an overly luxurious costly interior getting muddy and dirty. Its great for hauling my skis..ski gear and friends to the mountain. All wheel drive is a pleasure up snowy mtn roads. Leather seats keeps my rear end warm on really cold days. For the price and warranty, thats the best part...CANT BEAT IT
My 1st brand new truck
I bought my Santa Fe in May of 2003. My first new truck from a dealership. I was so excited. I drove home and it was making a hissing sound under the hood. Called the next day, the told me I can bring it there in 2 weeks. I was so upset. Brand new car making noise for 2 weeks. Turns out it was a bad belt. Ok, this is a beautiful little truck. I do enjoy it. Its reliable and drives nicely. The only complaint I have and I see others have is that there is absolutely NO pick up.
Great Vehicle
This is a great vehicle at a great price. Very stylish with lots of room.
EXCELLENT VEHICLE
LIKED WELL ENOUGH I BOUGHT A SECOND ONE
its a cool car
this car is a very confortable and economic vehicle. its great for a familly vehicle. The only thing is that it uses too much fuel.
Big Buck Bang
You want more bang for your buck?? Then you'd better get a Santa Fe. I'm a tall man and need a little more leg room at the drivers seat. Other than that I love my car.Very very reliable. Not one problem after 14 months of driving.
fantastic
very comfertible and drive very very nice. both my wife and i love it and the price was great.
2004 Hyundai Santa Fe
Very comfortable! Drives like a luxury car, yet performs like an SUV. Everything is within reach which is very convenient for a family or a person who is in their vehicle alot.
3.5L worth waiting for
We actually went to the dealer to try out the Tribute based on your review but tried the Santa Fe 2.7L and they compared very close to what we wanted. Once we drove the 3.5L we were sold on the Sante Fe. We wanted a car type ride with more upscale interior design and controls which sold us on the Santa Fe. It has performed very well so far without any warranty issues. The gas pedal has been somewhat difficult to get smooth acceleration.
not just affordable
when i first looked at the santa fe i thought the car was nice and that made me interested..after learning about the warranty and seeing quality for myself i was sold..i have made one of the better choices of my life..
my favorite Santa Fe
when i first seen the Santa Fe at a new auto expo i began to investigat them and found them to be such a perfect match for my needs that i set forth in my efforts to obtain one and have been happy with my decision
Love my Santa Fe!
Had looked at Santa Fes earlier last year, then decided to hold onto my 01 Grand Caravan with 60k on it. Until, that is, I was told the "weird noise and odd ride" suddenly meant I needed a new front end suspension/ball joints...this by my very reliable and highly rated mechanic/garage..the Chrysler dealership hemmed and hawed and told me it couldn't be so. Found out the next week that there was a MAJOR recall on Chrysler Durangos etc for same! Adios Chrysler forever. I had stopped MANY Santa Fe owners in parking lots and asked their opinions....they all said they loved their vehicles. One woman said her husband liked it so much he bought his own!
Hyundai Sante Fe
This is the second Sante Fe I have owned. My daughter was hit broadside with my first one. She was not injured at all, but the car was totaled. It spun twice, but never tipped over. A safe little SUV, I feel. I never had any problems with that vehichle or the new one that I replaced it with. The service on these cars is amazing. I can't say enought about the dealership! What a value for the consumer. My new Sante Fe even has side airbags now! I am very happy with this vehichle.
Best vehicle yet
It's comfortable, rides like a car, gets great mileage. It's a good looking SUV
Terrific performance
Better than I expeted
Love It
Love everything about the car except lack of power and that is still okay
the hyundai experience
So far Great. It is a comfortable quiet ride with awesome pick up. It is not too big and not too small and the kids have so much room in the back. The DVD player in the headrests is so cool with the cordless headphones. The woodgrain that was installed just makes the car look so rich. I've had lots of great comments about how great it looks. Mine is white and silver.
SANTA FE
EXCELLENT VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY,A LOT OF STANDARD FEATURES THAT ARE NOT USUALLY FOUND ON VEHICLES IN THIS PRICE RANGE.VERY SATISFIED WITH THE OVERALL QUALITY OF THE SANTA FE.WOULD NOT HESITATE TO RECOMEND .
Smooth Rider
I have driven the Santa Fe over 3000 miles and it has been just a gem. I have to keep reminding myself that this is not a $30K+ SUV. My longest trip was 400 miles and I arrived very refreshed which was a pleasant surprise.
Better than my 3 past Ford Explorers!!!!
Love this SUV! I researched SUV's and tested them for three solid weeks before leasing this car! You can not beat the value of this SUV, and it is loaded!Leather, heat seats, moonroof and it is fast! Love the look and feel! I was hesitant of a Hyundai but could not pass this SUV up! I have leased three Ford Explorers for the past nine years and this car beats them all in all aspects! Ford cars have gone up in price and the quality down! Ford's service has also gone way down!! This car has quality at an unbeatable price and is better on gas! Faster than my Explorer and has a ten year warranty!
New 2004 Santa Fe
After doing serious small SUV research, the Santa Fe came out on top! It is well built, solid and fun to drive. The warranty is great as well...It's almost like buying the warranty and getting the SUV for free. We are looking forward to buying another one in 7 years when my oldest son gets his drivers license.
