2012 Hyundai Genesis R-Spec exceeds expectations
From the age of 19 yrs, I have driven BMWs. I have never or will suggest ever buying a new BMW when they have been such a great value to buy used in great condition with service records. My first was bought in 1975 and it was a 1972 2002. Back then they were relatively inexpensive, simple and far from a status symbol but extremely FUN to drive, easily repaired and modified, safe and they fit my 6'5" frame. I have owned every model at least once thru the years and my final two were the largest model...the 7 series from 1989 and 2000 featuring the longest wheelbase that the "il" model offered. This gave rear passengers lots of legroom and I never had to move my seat forward for anyone. For years and years nothing drove like a BMW as the car set the bar so high, but in recent years some manufacturers have gotten pretty close with all of the equities that BMW had the lock for so long. I only will consider a rear wheel drive car so that rules out a lot of choices. The Genesis came out in 2009 and right out of the box I knew they were on to something. My friends had owned a few 5 series BMWs and they bought the first one and it impressed us all. Safety, fit and finish, skid pad performance and above all it was a huge value saving over 20-25% over comparable BMW 5 series and Mercedes E class models. And they are RELIABLE. Fast forward to this month when my tried and true, but not always reliable 2000 BMW 740il was not 20 years old with 258,000 miles (in Arizona the cars here stay looking good and as parts wear out you just replace them. I do all my own work for all maintenance and always have. This is how I can afford to keep them. I also bought them at 5 years old with 100-110K miles with CPO records from the factory, so I got a great value never spending more than $15k for a 70K valued vehicle). For a few years I sold cars for Carmax and with that offered extended service plans. Carmax only sells reconditioned cars/trucks that they certify, and the service plan premiums are priced according to the amount of claims paid per model of vehicle. The more reliable the vehicle, the lower the cost. Simple enough. I took the time to chart the premiums of similar class vehicles, so the Camry, Avalon, Accord, Altima, Malibu, Impala, Genesis all had the least expensive service plans based on mileage and age for the exact same coverage. The Genesis was tied with the Camry for least expensive, so it was easy to make the conclusion that the reliability was a given, and the performance spoke for itself. When I just bought the 2012 Genesis R-Spec I was pleasantly surprised having not yet driven one. It rivals today's BMW 540i twin turbo with all the features. The R-Spec has the 429hp engine for quick/fast performance, the firm suspension very similar to the 540i, mostly all the options, the fit and finish, the lateral Gs on the skid pad and a fraction of the price when bought used. More rear legroom than the 5 series and most in its class, too. It's a win-win! Mine is a one owner, garage kept, never hit or painted nice car. Bought via private party for less than a quarter of the original purchase price of nearly $49K ,it is the deal of the day. Research shows it has great reliability, too. I have owned and driven it for around 10 days and I am so much more than pleased! Highly recommended. I am back to a high level of driving satisfaction and joy like never before.. I will not miss my BMWs but will always be glad to have owned those I did.

Luxury Standard has arrived
Purchased a 2012 Genesis 4.6 traded my Lexus IS 350... wow what a ride... what fun. The car is awesome performs greatly and returns 26 mpg in my commute... and its not broken in yet. Mercedes and BMW should run for Alps. They can not deliver such a reliable package, in this luxury segment. The integration of the electronics navigation sound system the adaptive cruise control is well done.
Great vehicle
Runs like a charm, nicely appointed interior. Not disappointed at all.

cozy cockpit
Compare options/comfort with other cars for the value/price. I've driven Japanese cars for 30 years but Korean cars have surpassed Japan , in my opinion. The drivers seat just fits "right around you" which makes me feel more secure. My Uncle used to say that about the P-51 he flew in WW-2; only he said "cockpit!" It's a 2012 Genesis! Still running like new after 71,000 miles. 74,000 total miles. Getting about 32 mph if you keep the engine at/or 2000 rpm on the highway. Still feels like a new car; nice and tight feeling. Update: Just over 80.000 and feeling great. Still performing like new! Milage holding between 24 and 28 mpg. Still tight in the corners! I bought a Tucson for my wife! 899000 in 2024. Still a very tight ride, even with all the pot holes. Milage still the same. Experiencing some door lock issues. Sometimes you have to push the unlock button several times for it to unlock/lock! Outside of that, still a very reliable auto!

One sweet ride.
The V6 base model is very scaled down when compared to the V8 model which comes with all the toys and then some. Although in my opinion I can't see anyone being disappointed in any model purchased. It's just a sweet ride and I have had both the V8 and V6 models.
