People have to take this car for what it is, A road racer. Great handling, super performance, Good looks, and good fuel economy. 17MPG around town, 27MPG on highway. With Premium version you get sun roof and navigation to name a few extras. This car is electronically limited to 150+MPH. I will vouch for 135. This car has the ability to put you in jail in any of the 50 states. It is a car that wants to be driven. Good trunk space for 2 people. Con: This isn't a car for families with children. Back seat would be a pain to put a baby seat in and it's not designed for adults.

Mods needed to make this car GREAT AGAIN

I’ve owned a 2010 Hyundai Genesis coupe 3.8 Premium and now a 2014 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T premium(manual). First, I must say that this car turns heads. I wrapped my car in Ocean Shimmer Blue vinyl wrap and people stop on the street or in the middle of a crosswalk to take pictures. The first thing that had to go was the exhaust. The 3.8 had a much better exhaust note as opposed to the 2.0T. I got rid of the first cat and put in straight pipes, with 2 small resonators and have had nothing but compliments. However, I did just get a ticket for “loud exhaust/no muffler”. Which was completely ridiculous as it’s not that loud, just nice sounding. Secondly, the air intake had to go. Put in a SRI which sounds spectacular when accelerating hearing all of the air being sucked in. Right after the air intake you obviously need a BOV. With the intake and BOV riding down the street, hitting the gas and hearing the blow off valve people will literally do the OWL (turn their heads 90 degrees to see what is making that noise). It sounds amazing. Lastly, what I recommend to every genesis owner (mostly those with the turbos) is to tune the car. It’s expensive, but it’s worth every penny. Tuning from BTR or SFR changes your car 100%. You think it was fast before? Wait until you have that new ECU inside. With 1:1 throttle response, the extra 60hp and 80tq makes this car faster than the 2013+ 3.8’s. I find that the more you upgrade your genesis with bolt-ons the more turbo lag you get. At one point I asked a 2010 3.8 to race from 0-100 and I took him from 1st into 2nd... once I went into second and shifted the turbo lag felt like I slammed on the brakes and he bested me. After that I tuned the car and it got rid of all that turbo lag and the car is extremely linear. Revs to 7,200 RPM, no governor, increase HP/TQ, better fuel economy, tuned for 91 gasoline, launch control, o2 sensor disabled, etc. This car is now a beast. It’s the best $1,000 I ever spent. There is a wide variety of companies out there that offer so many different options for mods/upgrades. There’s an entire community dedicated to genesis cars like the previous review stated. All that being said, without doing any sort of modifications and keeping your car factory. I must say it’s still a peppy sports car. You can still get many tickets with it and still turn heads. The stereo system in the premium is pretty good. Comes with a factory subwoofer in the back that’s capable of shaking your mirrors, I believe it’s an infinity system. The power is there, but I still say it needs to have bolt-ones and a tune to really unlock its capability. Always tune on a separate ECU in case you take it in for repair or maintenance you can swap out and not void your warranty. Pros would be: Great sound system on the premium model Decent power that can still get you in trouble Overall great looking car Huge community for modifications Cheap repairs for any break downs Decent gas mileage if driving like normal Reliable Once fully modded you can beat BMW 300 series, focus ST, genesis v6’s, Volkswagen, etc etc. Entertainment system on the premium is easy to use and very functional. Decent size screen with navigation. Cons would be: Factory tune does not unleash its full potential Too many bolt-ones with no tune = TERRIBLE TURBO LAG The tires could have been 255/265 for the rear for more traction and more aggressive look No head room in the backseat. Anyone over 5’6 will have trouble sitting back there. Transmission could have been fine tuned a bit more. They just carbon coated the synchros after the 2012 models. It still feels off. Terrible handling in the snow even with excellent winter tires. Interior still has a lot of cheap plastic pieces. Including the pedals which could have been made with metal. Premium should have came with the limited slip diff, instead it’s more expensive and only the r-spec comes with the LSD. Hood scoops look cheap and aren’t functional Front end plastic looks cheap, but after a wrap it looks really good. Overall I give this car a 4/5. As you need to spend about $3,000 on the BOV/SRI/EXHAUST/TUNE/ETC... to really unlock this cars full potential. Once done it’s an incredible machine that will slam you back in your seat. Without the mods this car just feels like it’s lacking that extra giddy up. The transmission still leaves more to be wanted. The turbo lag without a tune is completely ridiculous. All in all, great car, but leaves more to be desired.

Genesis 2.0T Premium, affordable little sports car

UPDATE After 4 years of ownership: At 145,000 km's only routine maintenance required. After 3 years of ownership: At 130,000 km's minor issues only but annoying. Battery harness collar cracked and it took ages to have the replacement ordered. After that just routine maintenance. Wouldn't recommend purchasing unless you can get it at a good price and are a mechanic. Still looks good, performance and handling are the same. Fun car to drive but its the reliability that will get you. After 1 year of ownership: AT 105,000 KILOMETERS (just over 60K miles) THE ENGINE SEIZED WHILE DOWNSHIFTING (automatic transmission) REQUIRING A COMPLETE REBUILD costing over $11,000 Canadian (USD 8,700). It appears the crank rod bearings failed. Near identical issue with two other friends cars. How this could happen on a vehicle that was well maintained and while it was operating under normal conditions is brutal. A bunch of irritating squeaks and rattles in the interior dash have come out of nowhere at 125,000 km. Review on Purchase: Genesis 2.0T is an affordable entry level sports car, especially used, delivering good value. The other cars I looked at and took for test drives were the BRZ/FRS/86's but I couldn't get over the lack of HP (decent little track cars but the pickup was a showstopper). The turbo has some lag but if you control the revs, manually or through sport mode and paddle shifters with the automatic tranny, its very responsive at lower revs. It definitely has some go to it. The tracking is good. The steering feel is a bit soft in the middle and numb but it turns in well and corners consistently. The suspension is marginal and you should factor in the cost of a decent set of coilovers (I added Bilstein). Road noise isn't great. The cockpit is roomier than competitors (BRZ, FRS/86), gauges and layout are fine, and you can fit someone short in the backseat but the headroom can be lacking. The touch screen is frustrating for a 2014 model as it can be unresponsive and the buttons work better. The aftermarket for parts is not as broad and deep as other brands but intermediate enthusiasts can likely find what they're looking for but you might incur significant shipping costs as there is nothing in stock locally for me (I added a Seibon carbon fiber hood and diffuser plus a basic catback). It surprisingly gets a lot of looks and questions from others that don't recognize the brand (pretty near every owner de-badges Hyundai emblems for Genesis). All that said, it combines an element of good looks, decent interior, horsepower, reasonable handling and is fun to drive.

It's a fun vehicle to drive and nice looking, but it requires expensive repairs at later miles, (+60,000). Decent mileage but very compact, especially the rear seats.
