I traded in my '04 Civic for this car last week and so far I'm loving it. The Hyundai has a lot more features for the same price as the Civic, and it's better looking and more fun to drive. I also read that Hyundai is rated second only to Lexus for customer satisfaction. Although Honda is known as a very reliable car, I think Hyundai is just as good and pays more attention to the little details that make you love your car.

I bought my 2002 Elantra GT (manual transmission, ABS, moonroof) in October of 2002. 2 and1/2 years later, I'm convinced it was one of the smartest things I've ever done. Seats are comfortable, ride is smooth and quieter than my wife's 2001 Neon, no mechanical problems, and it's a great looking car inside and out. Quality look and feel of the leather and controls and more rear legroom than you're likely to find in a compact car. Love the storage capacity with the seats folded. I bought an old house and do lots of home imporvement projects myself. I'm always amazed at how much stuff I can fit in there with ease.

I have had the Elantra for about 3 weeks now. I should say that initially I did not want to even test drive one. My friend adviced me to do so and you know what? I am glad I listened to him. This car is a steal for the money you pay. It has a long list of standard features and if you plan to spen a little more you get the GT. The car is fun to drive and the gas mileage is good. If you are looking for a low price, fuel economy, more standard features then look no further than the Hyundai Elantra. This will be a good buy for the $$$$$$$$$$$ you spend.

Just got this vehicle. I really like it so far. It works great to haul the kids around in and looks sporty. I wish the MP3 player was still standard - I had to buy my own at $200. So far so good and the warranty is a great piece of mind.

Consumer Reports - You got it wrong!

My Elantra GT is the first Hyundai I have bought after previously owning Honda's, Toyota's and Mazda's. I thoroughly tested the Civic, Corolla, Mazda 3 and Ford Focus. The Civic was very noisy and a mediocre performer. The Corolla was uncomfortable and slow. Both the Mazda 3 and the Focus were better but the Elantra GT stood out, and at a lesser price! Then I saw the latest Consumer Reports annual auto edition. They say "The Elantra is just basic transportation.... but neither agile nor sporty." I couldn't disagree more. The GT handles and rides better than the Accord EX I just sold and is much quieter. So far, the Elantra has exceeded my expectations and I am happy with my choice.

Very enjoyable to drive. Quiet interior, comfortable seats, dash has a nice layout. Seems to be built very solid. The children say it's much more comfortable in the rear seat than our '95 Dodge Neon. Let me get overly critical. The brakes are soft but stop well. Handling is good but it has more body lean than the old Neon. Getting the SULEV in the automatic robs you of 6 horsepower (I live in CA, don't know if you can get the automatic here without it being SULEV). We would purchase it over all the competition again, highly recommended.

We managed to get the car near invoice price. I've had it for 1 year now, and it has not let me down. It has enough power to not be considered slow. The fuel economy, while not stellar, is acceptable. In my humble opinion, there is no car in this price range that even comes close.

I absolutely like my Hyundai Elantra hatchback I brought 3 month ago. The only problems I had is the brakes making noise in wet weather. It rides like a dream and the gas mileage is great I'm getting 36 mile per gal. I'm been a Honda person for years. The Elantra holes the road like a dream and handle get in the snow cover roads.

I have driven this car for over a year now, and I have put it to the full test. I have been nothing but satisfied with its comfort, performance, reliability, and efficiency. I feel that I got more for my money than with any other car on the market. I find it to be stylish and I am glad that it's different from all the other econoboxes on the road. It hauls a large load with ease due to the hatchback design with 60/40 folding rear seats, and it's fast, too!

For the money, the best car you'll find GLS Hatch, hss same underpinnings and stearing as GT. Save the $2 G's if you don't have it. Get the CD player with 6 speakers & cruise. Get a respecable 28 mpg overall.

I love this car. I'm averaging 33.4 miles/gallon currently and am learning to bring up the mileage by driving carefully (braking less) and trying to cruise when I can. This is in city/hwy driving. When gas is an issue, this car solves the problem. At first, the mileage was about 25-26 mpg and it has drastically improved recently. It is very comfortable and the leather was standard. The CD/audio/radio AM&FM are heck of a lot better than the Honda Civic's and the sound is a lot more crisp and clear. This car is peppy and the struts are very tight. I guess that's what comes with a "sporty" suspension. A little more spring wouldn't hurt, but I like the car as a whole.

We are very please with the GT from Hyundai. We think for the money, it is the best buy in the market. We are planning on keeping it forever and with the 5 yr. bumper to bumper, roadside waranty, 20 yr. 200000 it will be predictable on repairs.

Boy, there is a lot to like about Elantra. Best looking small car out there, much more plush, roomy, solid and fun to drive than Sentra, Corolla, Civic, Focus, etc.. But why does a car this size with a 4-cyl/5-spd get such poor gas mileage? Even driving over flat roads at 60mph, I cannot get better than the mid-20's for highway mileage. I have driven larger 6 and 8- cyl cars and gotten better mileage. C'mon Hyundai, you build a nice car, now get with the program and deliver better mileage (especially with gas costing $2.75/gal!!!).

Love at first sight, It looks and equipted much better than more expensive Corolla and Civic. Very roomy with hatchback model. Handling is better than my camry 95 LE V6. The engine is strong enought to move the car smoothly with traffice on both city and highway. Most of material used in the car look and feel great, only a few items look cheap such as the Glove compartment, antenna, muffler...

I bought this car several weeks ago and have been driving it in a variety of different ways. I commute 25 miles each way on the highway for work and live in a densely populated city. The GT version's suspension and interior touches make longer highway drives pleasent and comftorble. In the city it handles well also but MPG suffers and becomes very average for its class. Also the visibility in the rear of the hatchback version is not as good as other hatchbacks I have driven. The engine is quick to respond from a stop but it seems you really have to lead foot it to get brisk accelleration at moderate speeds. Chose auto over manual after not liking the shift range and clutch.

I was skeptical about getting a Hyundai Elantra at first, but I was impressed enough by the warranty and features to be satisfied. Since then, I've come to realize that it wasn't only a fantastic deal for about $15,000, but would have been a good choice for thousands more. There is no other car that offers the combination of style, comfort, drive, and price that the Elantra provides. And, it's not a bland and overpriced Civic or Corolla. This is my first online post, but I feel that strongly about this car. Spend some time researching the Elantra and comparing it to the others. You'll quickly see that its more than a good deal; its a car you'll love.

I bought this car to replace a much beloved Mazda Protege 5 which was totalled in an accident. The Hyundai is more comfortable at the expense of handling, but I am very pleased. Initial fuel economy wasn't so great, but is improving with each tank. I am impressed with how quiet it is once speed has been reached. The cargo area is quite spacious and the seats are almost as comfortable as Volvos I've ridden in. Fit & finish are top notch and I found material quality better than the Honda Civic that I looked at. Feels like a more expensive car than it really is.

When I first saw the car on the showroom floor I knew that was what I wanted. A 5 door vehicle. I love the hatchback. Once you unlock your doors all you have to do is raise the back. It's great not to have to look for the key. Lots of room. Great on the highway.

I bought my car new in October 2004. The only repair that it has needed was when my driver side window rubber folded over and the window didn't operated properly. That repair was covered under warranty. This car is economical, easy to park, and handles well. A plus is the leather is holding up. The moon roof slide and tilt are nice to use on a evening drive. I would recommend buying this car used because most 05's will still be under the manufacturers warranty.

Bought the car for a daily commuter w/ some road trips in mind as well. I've been pretty pleased with the car, but it is in the shop right now at 42,000 miles to get the rear brakes replaced. Seems way too early, especially since I have the manual and use my brakes sparingly. Dealer seemed mystified as to why only 1 brake pad was worn badly... Tires were completely bald by about 32,000 miles. Clutch is pretty pathetic too, definately not a sport- machine. Sloppy gearbox sometimes leads to a gear grinding here and there (roomate has the same problem with his Accent). Probably going to be my first and last Hyundai, I'd rather pay a little more for better quality.

I have 47K miles with the GLS five- speed manual transmission hatchback, and I haven't had any problem with the clutch or engine. Both have been maintained on a regular basis, usually a few hundred miles over every 3000. However, I did have to get the rear brakes replaced at 30K. But this because I was a little abusive with the parking brake while driving. Immaturity I guess. Everything else has been great, but the tape deck needed to be replaced with a more digital deck because of an electrical short at 45K miles. Overall, you gotta be realistic that this isn't going to drive like any type of high end roadster, however I have been impressed with the handling and gas mileage 28-35 usually.

I bought this car in july of 2020, for $695 at a Mazda dealership. It had 233 000 km on it. Price had been reduced from $1195. I took a chance, was tired of shopping. After getting jerked around on safeties from three different garages, and also owing to the pandemic, I was on my way with a temporary plate sticker...four yrs later and the car has never failed to start, best battery I ever had in any of my previous seven cars, and I do deliveries so I'm starting the car 25 to 75 times a day, no joke! It now has 362 000 km on it! It cant be killed, I'm going for 401k!! It may outlive me

I traded my 02 Elantra GLS for an 05 Elantra GT 5dr. The GT rides a whole lot better because of the sport tuned suspension. Quality inside and out is excellent. I put 57,000 miles on my 02 Elantra without any problems and I expect the same for my 05. I love the style of the 05 GT 5dr. If your in the market, you really need to take a look at the Elantra and test drive one. You'll see the difference and also see how much money you'll be saving compared to the competition.

What a great car! I was going to replace my Accent with another Accent, but after seeing and driving the Elantra hatchback, I was hooked. I got out the door for only $13k, and that included a moonroof and CD player. Considering it was only $2200 more than a sparsely equipped Accent GT, it was an incredible bargain. Handles great, extremely comfortable, engine is smooth and powerful, transmission is silky. It's too early to tell about reliability, but if it's like my '01 Accent, it will be a gem. My first tankful of gas gave me 35 mpg (mostly highway driving). Stylish car!
