It's not the fastest, or most impressive car. But it's fun to drive and the mileage is amazing!

This car just keeps going

I bought this car out of desperation when my old car died. I was looking for anything when I went to a dealer who pushed it on me more or less. I felt I paid a little too much but whatever. I bought it 6 1/2 years ago with 13,000 miles on it. Today I'm at 200,000 and the only problem I have had is the timing chain went out (my fault since I should have changed it). It is hands down THE MOST reliable car I have ever owned. I'm always looking at other cars, but I know I will keep driving this thing just to see how long it will last. It reinforces my theory that cars you love will screw you over, but cars you don't car about will serve you well for years.

I'm 17 and this was my first car. Being a teen, I don't make a lot of money, but thats ok since this baby gets great mpg. On average I get about 33 mpg. Plus the car itself is really fun to drive. The car is extremely nimble. With my aggressive driving habits, I find myself weaving through highway traffic with ease.

I bought my car used in 2007 w/ 25K miles on it after owning an Excel, it's older sister. There was one major issue it had immediately after purchase (speed sensors went out - totally covered by warranty). Heard it's good to change timing belt before 100K so had a full $500 tune-up done then and have never had an issue in the now 5 years I've had it & only done routine oil changes otherwise. I have maintained 35 mpg consistently in town and 40 mpg highway. Plush? Frills? Sporty power? No - but if you're ok with feeling the road under you and enjoy great gas mileage & the joys of a hatchback, an Accent rules! Con: poor visiblity out the back window due to its 'bubble butt' as I call it.

3 yrs: zero repair -- $300 maintenance

I commute 45 miles each way for work on country roads. This car has been comfortable and fun to drive for the first 3 years. Gets 40 mpg at ~50 mph ave speed w/o using air conditioning. 36 mpg highway w/o air; 34 mpg highway with air. Hauls canoe well. Plenty of power without heavy load: feels sluggish with 5 passengers and luggage. Also sluggish on big hills even with only 1 passenger. Like every Hyundai I've owned (3) very reliable and no repair costs.

I was just out of college & driving a '05 Ford Escort when I bought the Accent new. I test drove a '05 Elantra & preferred it to the Accent for 2 reasons (smoother shifting & a quieter ride). However the Accent was more affordable on my tight budget. 5 years & 65K miles later, I haven't had to have any work done on it. I've replaced the tires as part of routine maintenance. A few months ago a party driving around 25 mph rear-ended my Accent. Damage was limited to the bumper. Sometimes I feel a little crowded when there is someone else riding in front with me but my son feels comfortable riding in the back. Sharp handling and good breaking - a zippy car that maneuvers tight spaces well

I bought this car just under a year ago, and since I've had it there's always been something wrong with it. Tranny slips, all interior lights are out, a/c went out, and burns oil. Just always something wrong. If it wasn't for the gas mileage I would give it away. Paid a good price, but wasn't told how much was wrong with it. Driving it was a lot of fun before the tranny really started to slip. And a/c blew snowflakes before it went out. I hate stock radios so I have my own radio and 6x9's in it.

125,000+ miles and still going strong!

I bought this car new as a commuter car in 2005. Paid $7750 and I was hoping it would last until I retired. It did -- plus another 10 years, and still going strong. It is a "basic" car, a cassette deck, a small back seat, small wheels and a few other disadvantages, but hey, a "simple" car is what I wanted! In 11 years it has had exactly TWO non-maintenance service calls. One was the previous mechanic's fault and the other was a "check engine light" which resulted in a minor adjustment. That's ALL! I listed the MPG as "35" but, on the highway, the mileage has flirted with 40! It has plenty of pep on the road, too. I got through college on VW Bugs and this is the modern equivalent. Not fancy, but this car has been extremely reliable and I almost consider it a member of the family!!

I bought my car used in 2008 with 35k miles on it. It is now 2016 and I'm still driving it with 286,000 miles on it! I love my car! There have been some fixes here and there- I had to replace both front axles a few years ago. I replaced a couple belts. The a/c doesn't work anymore. I replaced the radio with a better one. Both interior door handles broke. I fixed the drivers door and it lasted a couple years and broke again. It's ok. To me, it's all just fixing the wear and tear. I would buy this car again, any day. It's not very often that you find a car like this one.

I had a '94 Excel before this and although that was the best car in the world, the Accent is basically it's younger sister. I love hatchbacks to begin with and prefer Asian cars. The Accent will take whatever you throw at it, even though it's not exactly in a big hurry. If you want a powerhouse, this isn't the right car; the Accent's all about economy. Handles great, fits in anywhere, I complain if my MPG dips to 27 (only in winter - when it warms up it's back pushing on 40). Also, never having dealt with a warranty before, I was impressed by how simple Hyundai is to deal with. The speed sensors went out & I was a bit late finding my paperwork to transfer the warranty but it was no problem.

After what I have had to deal with for the past 2 years this car has been a blessing. I have no credit so I need a cheap small car. Hyundai acctualy got me credit and sold me the car I drive the GT version so the the ride is sporty. I only paid 12,700. Ive got side airbags, power everything and even aircondtion plus to top it off a great sound system with cd. The noisy engin is the only down fall, but hey its comfortable and traveling to work school I am going to keep this car for as long as I can. Great gas milage also. I find the car cute. This is deffinatly a chick car though. My boyfriend likes it but has fun pretending he's driving a go cart lol. Buy this car low price and reliable .

Daily driver and use to deliver pizza. Mileage in city without air running is about 27mpg, with air running is about 25mpg. Definatly less than advertised but can't complain with gas prices. Interior quality is average. The seatbelt receiver cover came apart a month or so after purchase, epoxy to the rescue. Lights went out behind the A/C in the dash and behind the automatic transmission panel but no big deal. The driver seat is starting to wear on the door side, but I get in and out of my car several hundred times a week so I have accelerated wear. A little low on power with the air on but overall it is a good, safe, economical little car.

I had a '94 Hyundai Excel before this and after losing it in a fire wanted something just like it. Found the Accent, which is basically its younger sister. I have only a couple design issues I'd change, but I love this car. The speed sensors did have to be replaced before 30K but the warranty covered it completely. If you're not looking to be out racing people & don't tend to have more than 1 passenger, it's about as close to perfect as you can come. I definitely plan on sticking with Hyundai's from here on out.

I am thoroughly enjoying my Accent GT...fun to drive, peppy, good gas mileage. Down sides - small, stuffy interior, good for single younger people. Seats are a bit stiff. Definitely not a long distance drive car. Rear with spoiler sits very high and takes away from visibilty behind the car quite a bit.

Well I guess this is a decent first car for someone but it has its drawbacks. The backseat is pretty small. The front may feel a bit cramped for larger people. The gas milage is only good if you never leave the highway. Hopefully we will figure out why but so far we avg. just under 20mpg. Thats about the only downfall to the vehicle also no abs brakes.

I bought this as my first car since I'm 16 and in High School. This car is the perfect size for me since it is a small car. Since the car is so small it makes parallel parking and k-turns super easy! It doesn't go that fast but that is not an issue for me. It takes a little bit to get it to accelerate to a high speed but that's not a problem but I do get passed a lot because of that. Overall it is a great car!

Well, ive had my 2005 accent for just over a year now, and put over 20,000 miles on it. My old Toyota finally took a dump, and I needed a car asap for my pizza delivery job. So I got suckered into this car because it was the only one I could get financed on. It didnt come with a owners manual. Ive had to take it in 3 times already, now they tell me I have to change the crappy timing belt every 6 months at $500 bucks a pop, how can I possibly afford this on a min. Wage job? classic buyers remorse!

I just bought my 3-door Accent GT and only have 1000 miles on it. But I love it already. I opted for the automatic and I'm glad I did. It shifts well and still has alot of pep. It would be nice to have a 2.0 with the added horsepower. But I bought the car for the MPG, warranty, and price. On all accounts I'm not disapointed and I know I'm going to trade it in for another Hundai.

Fine little car. Came with the preferred power pkg with the power locks, windows, CD, fog lights a/c. Has 5 speed. Engine is smooth, fast within a narrow range of rpm, and gets good mileage (38 on the road, no AC, 70-80 MPH). I'm 6'2" and I have plenty of leg/head room. The GT comes with a sub-frame, stiffer struts, springs, stabilizer bars front and rear, and bigger tires, and handles really well. Remains flat and well-planted on the exit ramps and sweeps hitting the interstate. Stable and smooth at speed. Turns on a dime. Hatchback allows more storage than the trunk of my 92 Elantra (which had 250k on it). Reliable? Only have 2k miles on it, but it should be great with the 100k warranty

I have no regrets in the purchase of my Accent. It is not a luxury car but it is economical, reliable and I enjoy driving it. I get on average 38 MPG but I have had 44 MPG. For a small car it is amazing how much you can pack inside. With it being a hatchback, the trunk storage is very spacious for the size car. The main thing I dislike about the car's interior is the fact it has no interior armrest. This model didn't come with a clock on the dash either. In order to purchase the one that fits into the dash would have cost me around $200 which I thought was ridiculous. All in all, I love my little car. It provides me cheap reliable transportation. I enjoy the drive.

Really wanted the Elantra GLS, but this was a decent trade-off. It is an enjoyable drive, though I haven't taken an extended trip in it yet. I'm hoping to get one or two in soon to see if I can get some decent mileage. That is my biggest complaint to date - barely getting over 20 mpg. Second least favorite fact - lack of lighting on the ignition switch makes it hard to find at night. Third least favorite fact - the in-curving lines on the hood do not provide a good visual clue to how straight I am parking the car. It would be nice if the foglights could be used as daytime running lights.

I bought the car because I needed a small, economical vehicle that I could depend on, and that wouldn't let me down. The Accent is just that. With the price, the mileage, and the warranty, I am sure that the car is more than enough to suit my needs. Additionally, the car is extremely comfortable, tricking the buyer into thinking it would be small from the outside. In fact, the interior is large enough that you could fit four adults COMFORTABLY. It is definitely a great buy!

I bought my 2005 Accent as a new left over in 06. I bought it a month after I bought an 06 Tiburon as a second car. This has been the best second car you could ask for. It's cheap, reliable, great on gas, has plenty of room for a little hatchback, and is fun to drive with the 5 speed manual. It's a very plain car with no CD player, and no air conditioning which is okay for what I use it for. Most people would probably get a little higher version with these features. It is built very well, and rides smoothly for it's low price of $11,000. And of course, it has Hyundai's wonderful 10 year 100,000 mile warranty on the engine and transmission

Waited to submit the review until I could actually review it properly. After one year of owning the car and driving back and forth to work all I can say is.. I'm impressed. 5 speed allows me to grab some decent speed from a pretty small engine and the fit and finish of the vehicle still impresses me. I even took it camping last summer and managed to get all the equiment, three people and a dog in.... Wow... Love the hatchback.

My First Import

My 2005 Accent is the first import I have ever bought, and because of its price and quality it will not be the last Hyundai I buy. I love the excellent gas mileage (I'm getting 40mpg), the agility, and the build quality. My last car was a brand new Cavalier that fell apart in about a year. My Accent takes anything I throw at it with a smile. The only downside that I have noticed is the tires. They are weak, and any tiny little piece of debris from feathers to cigarette butts may cause a puncture. Other than that an Accent is a smart choice for budget- conscious commuter.

i have owned this car for 18 months and it is exceptional.. consistently gets 34-35 mpg with a/c running all the time... hard on bumps and slow take-off but thats the trade off for great milage..have not had one thing wrong that required me take the car back to the dealer...

For how cheap this car is, it is the best ever, i get ok gas mileage about 26-27, but i drive fast. i get 28-30 when i drive sane, and freeway for trips i get 35, once in the mountains driving around 45mph i got around 42. this car can go fast i drove it thru the desert going to tuscon with no one around on the freeway and i was going 110 and it still got good mileage like 33. i love driving this car. this car is off the ground more than most sedans today so i can drive over normal things without worrying

Disappointing Accent

I lost all respect for Hyundai with the purchase of the Accent. Its cramped, choppy ride, and even refuses to start on too many occasions. The service at Hyudndai is almost as bad, they dont believe it does these things so won't attempt to fix them. I would buy a used car over a new Accent
