2023 Honda Pilot EX-L 4dr SUV (3.5L 6cyl 10A)

Smooth and powerful. All the controls are located where they should be with quality knobs. With the rear seat down you have a little over 41/2 feet of storage. Had the EXL for 2 months and really like it. The 10 speed trans is very smooth. Around town I am getting 19 mpg is what I expected. It is not a small car! I have to rate it a 10 so far.

Brand new 2023 Honda Pilot check engine lights on

I bought a brand new 2023 Honda Pilot three weeks ago. The second day, the check engine light on. Here is the message:"Emissions system problem. Power may be reduced. See dealer". I immediately drove it to the dealership Service Dept. But, that Service Advisor said I did not make an appointment and has a kind of "do not care" attitude. It took me lots of efforts and almost 5 trips, eventually, they said it a sensor issues which is in some kind of value of the gas tank ares. They put order to replace the value and sensor. But, it has been over 15 days and no ETA from the supplier! Plus, the driver side wiper blade simply flew away the first time I turned it on in the heavy rain. It took three phone calls and two appointments to get the new wiper blade installed because it need to be "ordered" also. On the left side of back window, the bottom trim is not glued well and can easily peel off and has not fixed by the Service Dept yet. Since 1996,I used two Honda Accord which were very reliable. and a Honda Odysessy van which had transmission issues after 6 years. After that, I bought new Acura MDX and drove it for over 15 years and very reliable. That is the reasons I come back to bought this 2023 Honda Pilot. But, looks like Honda's build quality dramatically degraded. If I have choice now, I will NEVER buy Honda cars anymore. First, the manufacturing quality is very bad from my experience with the brand new Pilot, secondly, the experience with the Service dept is very bad also. Especially with the ordering of parts, it take over 15 days , no ETA ! what's hectic ! From the Honda manufacturer to the Service, the Honda is degrading big time. I will not recommand anybody to buy the 2023 Pilot.

Not a lifted odyssey, but best we could find

2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 10A)

So the last 3 vehicles we’ve owned have been Odyssey’s (2004, 2010, 2019) we live on a dirt road in the country now and my wife wanted more ground clearance, 4x4/Awd cost at or under 65k, looked sporty, no low front , but yet tough, reliable, dealer reasonably close by, had the same gas mileage (she averaged 25), 3 rows, lots of storage, fit in our single car garage, and have same cargo capacity/ space for family of 5 and (2) 30 lb Corgi’s, their crates and our luggage. I suggested the local off-road center do a custom 4”-6” lift, Andrew pilot rear axle/4x4 setup and save $15k which was met with a quick no way! We looked at the expedition timberline(other trims have low front air dam that we’d repeatedly scraped on a 11’ explorer) and the Yukon/Tahoe Z-71, had less usable space than van cost $80k+, wouldn’t fit in the garage, worse gas mileage. Though looks were great, practicality was sub par for us. Quickly became a comparison between the explorer timberline and the pilot trail, explorer is rated for a little better mileage, but is a 4cyl twin turbo (pricy to replace), didnt like the infotainment screen position as much, pilot you can view while driving, explorer has to look away from the road more. Pilot has 3rd row with 3 seatbelts (our youngest is 8 and 55lbs so that works), liked pilot seat material better, fit in the garage, had issues with the sync in the 11’ explorer never had trouble with the ody. So far have 400 miles on pilot took an hour trip with 4 adults 16, 14 and 8 year olds riding in back everyone was sufficiently comfortable. Ride is smooth/predictable like the blue color. Would have liked better mileage, getting 21-22 avg so down 3-4 mpg, 3rd row is less spacious with wise than van, no dvd or dedicated NAV, less cargo space, but added roof rack should even it out, just won’t fit in garage now. All in all my wife is happy with it, and though it could be better is the best combination for us.

Stay away from Honda

Same issue as I read from another person on here. New 23 Pilot. Bought 5/23/23 and on 6/15/23 the car wouldn’t back up in a public parking lot. It would go back into park every time. Finally got it backed up enough to go forward and it did it again and again. Total of 8 or 10 times. Thought we would have to call tow truck. What if this happens at 60 mph or in an emergency?! Dealer said if they can’t replicate the issue they can’t diagnosis it or repair it. We were already in a battle over a horrible paint job we noticed on 6/11/23. A run a foot long, another drip and a paint tape line 3” wide and a foot down. We are disgusted and don’t want this car.

Disappointed

2023 Honda Pilot Touring 4dr SUV (3.5L 6cyl 10A)

We tend to buy new vehicles, take care of them, and then drive them for many years. We’ve only had our Pilot for 8 weeks and I am already missing our old SUV. I find the Pilot to be attractive outside and inside... and the materials and fit & finish seem good. Gas millage is running around 24 mpg, which is good. So why am I not happy? • Road noise is horrendous. • Air conditioning is very weak. On a day with the temperature around 87, I could not get the interior cold enough for me, even with everything set to 58 and the fans running wide open. • There is just too much tech. I am a high tech guy... I’ve always built my own computers and have been building websites since the 1990s... but this thing is overwhelming. So far, I have probably spent at least 20 hours programming various settings and I haven’t even tried to set up the Android Car Play yet. • When you pull up to the gas pump, you cannot open the fuel filler door unless the driver door is open or at least unlocked. Whenever I stop my vehicle, I want every door to be locked... just too much crime out there. It’s just another frustrating quirk about this vehicle. • I have always done my own maintenance work. I raised the hood just to check everything out and discovered that even something simple like replacing the battery requires taking a bunch of things apart. Not user friendly. • Social media is filled with 2023 Pilot buyers who have the Touring or Elite trim, and are having problems with the sunroof leaking on the passenger side. Many of these folks have had their vehicles in the shop for a long time and Honda hasn’t been able to fix it. I doubt we will keep our Pilot very long. We will probably go back to a truck based SUV.
