pilot exl
interior very cheep Have owned several Hondas For the most part very pleased in the quality and durability. Purchased the Pilot expecting quality . The dash is completely touch. I find this confusing to use. I drove the pilot 3546 miles and traded in. I also purchased a CRV and love it. I have owned Honda RT5000 tractor , 50 HP out board , Quad, lawn mower, power washer. I am no stranger to Honda products.

Love the Pilot. Plenty of power, especially when you take the economy setting off. Looks great. Drives well; smooth, comfortable, not a lot of road noise. Had some minor electronic issues, thankfully before the warranty ran out. One of the Homelink buttons was not working and the volume + button on the dashboard worked sometimes, sometimes not. We don't listen to really loud music but I have to say the rear speakers are an absolute joke. When there are people in the backseat, you have to turn the volume up very loud or they cannot hear the music but then the people in the front seats can't hear themselves think. I can't believe a $40 thousand dollar vehicle could have that crappy of a sound system. I would be embarrassed if I was Honda. The blue tooth system is poor. Cuts in and out sporadically. Also very disappointing. Other than that, the Pilot is a great vehicle and my wife absolutely loves it. Update:. Catalytic converter issues. Would have been a $1,600 repair but Honda extended the warranty through a bulletin so it was covered. This happened at 66,000 miles.

Transmission Issues
This car continues to have transmission issues. Problems with upshifting when going down hill. Car will speed up. I've been in and out of serivce this past year. Same story, and delays with getting the necessary parts. My first and last HOnda. I'm in the processing of trading this vehicl in for a Chevy Traverse or Buick Enclave. Friends have these vehicles and have been very pleased. My wife refuses to drive this vehicle.

Great value
Having owned Audis and Mercedes vehicles prior, this car is one impressive package. From the premium wheels to the LED headlights, the exterior is sharp and modern. The electronics really are second to none, offering literally everything you would expect from a loaded luxury vehicle. The kids love their captains chairs and the included wireless headsets are key for long road trips, allowing us to listen to music on the front whistle the kids enjoy a movie in the back. The countless media options allow us to play digital movies right from our iphones / iPads vs having to bring along blue ray discs. Cargo storage is not great but more than sufficient when the third row is folded down. Anyone w kids car seats will need the captains chairs because otherwise there is no way for a passenger to access the third row unless they enter via the trunk which is awkward. Great car for the price, tough to beat.

I did LOVE this car until it almost killed me
Transmission occasionally feels jerky within the year of ownership. Struggles to shift between gears and jolts, esp downshift when approaching stop. It's not consistent yet when it does happen, if put car in park and back to drive it resets and doesn't happen for while. (of course dealer can't replicate and sees no error) The engine idle stop feature then not working properly. Radio cuts out, pops or jerks to start. Car lags to turn back on when ready to go, no pick up and have 2-3 cars blow past you when starting from a red light due to the occasional lag. Randomly, and extremely dangerous, episode of malfunction with idol stop for entire vehicle and all functions to seize up. As in sitting like a dead duck in the middle of a busy intersection with a car that won't go back into drive, park, turn on or off with an error reading across dashboard and red lights light up.... onscreen instructions state to depress brake and push start button yet car would not accept those steps with constant tries for 2-3 minutes. Car was in the middle of a busy underpass, driver luckily not rear-ended in the dead car. Driver was thereafter able to follow on-screen instructions for restarting vehicle and taken to Honda for service. The best the Honda dealership service department appears to be able to do in diagnosing the problem is to suggest battery recharge or replacement, which has not been an observed issue in the car and is apparently a common suggestion from dealerships. Battery was replaced yet upon return from dealership the idol start no longer works at all. This is an apparently bigger issue than Honda has been willing to admit. It's extremely dangerous to have a vehicle (only 12k miles) that will stall and not respond to restarting, while in middle of busy roads! Complaint filed NHTSA for this issue (11230891), highly suggest all others with same problem do the same.

Why Pay Extra For A "Luxury" Brand
This may be early for a full review of my 2016 Honda Pilot Elite... it has less than 100 miles on it. I traded a 2013 Infiniti JX 35 on the Pilot and the Honda is very much the equal of the Infiniti in almost all matters. The Infiniti has a higher quality leather on the seats, in my opinion, and a little more chrome on the exterior, but the Honda is equal or better in everything else. The seats are comfortable, the driver's position good, the acceleration and ride very good, and the fit and finish excellent. There is so much storage and so many cup holders that I don't know if anyone will ever use all of them. I like the touch screen and don't know why some people complain that the radio doesn't have tactile controls/knobs. There are radio controls on the steering wheel! The Bluetooth connectivity is easily done and performs very well. The safety tech is great except for the peculiar decision by Honda to have the adaptive cruise control disengage when speeds drop to 20 mph or less. Some things I don't like. The brakes are a bit soft, the steering wheel telescopic adjustments are done only manually, the second row windows are not one touch up and down, and, as mentioned above, the adaptive cruise control disengages at around 20 mph. It seems to me that this could be dangerous if the driver isn't paying attention. In the limited driving that we have done, we are impressed with the Honda Pilot. It "feels" solid. We have not experienced the lurching that others have stated they feel from the 9 speed transmission as the car is slowing to a stop. In fact, the transmission is very smooth during acceleration and deceleration. The ingress and egress of the vehicle are both accomplished easily. All in all, we have been pleased with the initial quality of our 2016 Honda Pilot Elite and hope that it continues to perform well and the MPG improves as the car "breaks in".

Don't do it
I can't seem to get anywhere with customer care so I am going to share my story in hopes of saving others from my misfortune with the newly designed Honda pilot. I bought a 2016 Honda pilot last February. Last week, my air conditioning began to blow warm air. I took it to a Honda dealership for a diagnostic assessment assuming that whatever was wrong would surely be covered under warranty with a car that is barely a year old. I get a call stating that they aren't really sure and it may have been that a rock hit my condenser and that is not covered. The dealership stated that they see this all the time and it is in "a vulnerable place at the front of the car." I have hit absolutely nothing and have never even heard of such a possibility happening on any other car I have owned. The fix is $1200 on a basically BRAND NEW CAR. Please others be aware of this design flaw in the new Pilot and purchase something else. This is the first and last Honda I will ever own as I have been let down and feel as if I have been swindled by the company. The employee said that the condenser does have a screen which meant the pebble must have been tiny. So, apparently the tiniest of pebbles can take out an entire air conditioner in a Honda.

Awesome vehicle
I had a '15 Pilot and just purchased a '16 AWD Pilot and it is like night and day! The drive is a totally different feel! I absolutely love my car! The only complaint is with the touch screen. I wish they had something to go over the screen so you don't see all the finger prints. And sometimes when I first crank the preset radio stations do not show. But I just power off the radio and restart it. Love love my new Pilot!!

900 miles with my Pilot
The Pilot is what it is. No pretension, a good solid care. Not a fun driving experience, but that is not what most are buying it for. It is reliable and safe to operate. Exterior is fine, interior materials and finish are fine in this trim level. Not flashy but not a lot of bling to get broken or damaged either. The phone and info display systems seem a bit less intuitive than I would have liked, but I am 56 and not 24 -- computers and phones are work for me, not the center of my personal life. Younger people may like it fine. I looked at the a lot of three-row SUV and bought the Honda. Had to look around for a decent deal because stocks are low, at least in Delaware. The only vehicle I liked as much was a Ford Explore but with similar equipment that would have cost much more.

NICE CAR BUT MAJOR TECHNOLOGY PROBLEMS
Check out the Piloteers web site to see the problems with this car. It overestimates the MPG for some reason. The touch screen is a joke. The FM reception is horrible and Honda won't fix it. Most dealers deny it is a problem!! Not worth the money.

Not impressed
Poor service. My 2016 Pilot is in for the 3rd time due to a poor seal on the rear hatch allowing water in the vehicle when I go through a touch free car wash, the top roof rail blows off in car washes and the drivers window rattles. The 3rd time in to get fixed and they offer me a comparable loaner (a bottom of the line KIA minivan). I called Honda corporate to complain about the issues with Pilot, the service and the loaner only to be told that I was lucky to get a loaner as Honda usually only covers parts and service for their warranty work. I have bought a lot of Honda's but this will be the last. If you cannot go through a car wash without the inside of the vehicle getting soaked and the poor service that goes along with it. Overpriced! Not impressed with the quality of this Pilot or of the service. My Pilot has now been to the shop more times than I can count. They finally fixed the water getting inside during the car wash. It is in the shop for the 5th time for the top rails coming off and has been in the shop 3 times for laud noises when i hit the brakes. The drivers window still rattles. Biggest mistake I have ever made. I miss Honda quality.

No Headroom
I test drove the 2016 pilot lx awd. There is no headroom for someone 6'1" or taller. The EX has power front seats but even then you find yourself looking at the visor. I have a 2014 CR-V and I can see the sky. Both have decent headroom the problem is the design of the 2016 Pilot leaves you looking right at the visor. Wow, and I wanted to buy one. It is a problem they decided to overlook. I guess I am leaving Honda because I want and need (towing) the midsize suv.

Tough to find a better car at this size
We shopped for almost a year before we made up our mind on this car. Cars we considered : Toyota, Acura, Lexus, Volvo, Nissan. We got out of a 2012 Odyssey Touring Elite and wanted to keep the space but make it a little more grown up. All other choices are great but here is what we found: All other cars a pretty much useless in the 3rd row for adults but I being 6'2" fit in the back seat comfortably in the Pilot. There is actually space that you could load something with the 3rd row up (Most other cars had no space at all). Very spacious front row seats , better than in the Odyssey for people with long legs. Safety equipment is off the chart. For a car with a factory entertainment system its hard to find a lower price. And for all the people that say this looks like a minivan, go look at it in person. It is much better especially with the 20" rims on it. Trust me I hated driving the Minivan, this is a welcome change. The pick up on this car is outstanding, I have to drive it in eco-mode to not speed! Car handles very well, no idea what people are saying about a bad handling, FYI this is a big and heavy car but it handles great. It has electric steering which has multiple upsides but one of the downsides is some disconnection with the "feel" of the road, maybe thats what they are talking about? This car is more quiet when driving than my $60K Lexus. Quality inside is outstanding for the cost. Some suggestions for improvements. Flip down armrest to be a little stockier. It isn't flimsy but it looks it. Maybe its just mine but the transmission is a little jerky on the downshifts. I will have it looked at, maybe I'm just too picky.

Great SUV for the price!
I have been driving mine for just over 2 months and absolutely love it. I owned a 2004 prior which was a very dependable and well built car so felt confident this would be the same. It's comfortable to drive, quiet, lots of storage and hauling space, looks good and worth every dollar. Drive and compare the competition and see what I mean. update: 10/11/2016 I have now owned the car for 15 months and still feel the same way about it as I did when it was 2 months old. I have had no problems with the car and still enjoy diving it. I have now owned the car for almost 2 years and I still feel the same way I did after 2 months of ownership. I have about 15,000 miles on the car and still no problems.

Could have done better
The hood flaps in the breeze at high speed with a cross wind. The push button transmission is a pain. The automatic braking feature is dangerous. I have had several near accidents because the brakes are automatically applied. Instead of the brakes being applied normally, they are slammed! The drivers behind me are none too happy. I have learned a whole new language as they pass me and give me the one finger salute. Getting my vehicle washed is a joke. You have to go through a series of button pushing to keep the vehicle from being damaged. Now, I have to take it to a self wash facility. Honda has found a way to ruin the new car experience with a CD instead of an owners book. there are several other things that are very annoying but not worth the trouble to list. If you buy one, make sure you understand EVERYTHING about the operation of the vehicle before taking it off the lot. This was my first and last Honda. Your going to love the rear seat belts....trying to put them back into the ceiling when not in use...Nothing has change as far as my opinion of the Honda vehicle. Over rated and over priced. My next vehicle will be American Made! Regarding the hood flapping in the breeze: I had the vehicle into the Honda service department for this problem twice and they could not fix it. They blamed the "Honda" bug deflector for the problem so I called the Zone Office and explained to the problem I was having. A snotty woman told me that because the bug deflector was and "after market" product, they couldn't/wouldn't help me. I tried several times to explain to her that the bug deflector was a Honda product to no avail. SO-----I took off the bug deflector and took the vehicle for a ride......YUP! Hood still flaps in the breeze at highway speeds and is very unsafe. SO----- I called the zone office again and explained the situation to the person that answered the phone. I was told that I would have to take it into the Honda dealer. When I explained that I had already done that more than once, I was told there is nothing Honda can do. JUNK, JUNK, JUNK. I couldn't put up with the "FLAPPING HOOD" any longer. It was only a matter of time before it blew off of the car into the windshield or worse (another car). I will never buy a foreign car again, especially a Honda. They don't care about the safety of their customers. I bought a 2018 Chevy Impala LT and the car is great!. I have 14500 ,miles on the Impala and I LOVE IT!!!!! It is almost perfect. The only complaint I have with the car is ingress and igress.. It rides great. the gas mileage I very good for a car this size. (25mpg combined). Handles great and I can't believe how many compliments I get about the way the car looks. Hope the rumors that Chevrolet is going to quit building this car are untrue. I will definitely buy another one.

EVERYTHING THE ACURA MDX SHOULD HAVE BEEN
The Honda Pilot Elite is amazing and absolutely nothing like the old pilot. At first I was disappointed when I saw the new 16 pilot on a lot this summer, but it was an ex. Anything that remotely looks like a Chevy makes me ill. I acquired a silver pilot elite with a black, which is actually dark charcole interior, and absolutely love it! The tech and fit and finish were well worth the 50K out the door price. Acura owners.......Everything the Acura MDX should have been and much more room to boot. Okay the nasty reports of the 9 speed transmission are highly accurate at low speeds In town and on slow rolling hills it is hideous......but wait there is a simple fix at the push of a button......no ones talking about it......the ECO button engauged cures the issue 100%!!! And transmission purs like a kitten even on rolling hills. Did Honda do this so we drive in Eco mode????? This car in not like a gutless ford engine where you saw these Eco buttons start....this is a 280 horse engine and definitely responds to the pedal in any mode! So who care what mode you are in!? I DO NOT run Eco mode on the highway! In my opinion you will find normal mode is better, cruise works better and gas mileage is phenomenal anyway on a 9 speed tranny. Gas mileage is amazing and it blows away all other cars in its class. I kid you not! I had a 2011 FWD pilot touring and averaged 14 to 15 mpg in my small town with a little bit of highway. My 2016 AWD pilot Elite is 20.3 MPG. WOW! Highway only was almost 30! Honda did make some changes that frustrated me a bit on the dash........but GOD the depressing reviews.....get a life people......you get use to the changes in a couple of weeks and have a car that feels and drives like a sports car, stears itself, and has a dozen safety features that WILL certainly prevent so many accidents we expirence today. THANK YOU HONDA ENGINEERS! Again all the folks comparing this to the old pilot WHICH I LOVED SO MUCH........drive a 2016 Elite for a week and you will see the Pilot is in a whole new class of luxury and performance! There is NO way I would go back!

Honda Pilot 2016 Ex
We just brought this car last month 7/1/2015 and already I'm started to hear a weird squeak noise after i start the engine. At first I thought it was because I left the car for couple of days without using it but is not the case. It's happening quite frequently now. I go in press the brake then the start button and the engine comes on and then a squeak noise. Please let me know if anyone else is having this issue. I will take this in and see what is going on. Thanks

Love my 2016 Pilot
Hated the look when I first saw the images released online. Saw the White one on the showroom floor and ordered an EX-L with Nav about 30 minutes later after a test drive. Traded in my 2012 Pilot EX-L with RES. Have had it a week and it is just better in every way. I had a 2011 Pilot that I traded in for a 2012 so we really liked that style of vehicle but this is just awesome. Love the Garmin brand NAV. The touch screen radio takes a bout 2 days to get used to but once you do you realize it is so much better and easier than the last consoles layout. The arm rests are great and the storage console between the front 2 seats is perfect compared to the last model. It looks very similar on the inside but just improved in every way. I hope the 2017 CR-V compares to these updates and the exterior gets tweaked so the lines are comparable to the Pilot. If so I will be trading in my 2012 Accord SE for the CR-V touring. Fingers crossed. I can't believe we hated the first images as much as we did and now this is our Favorite we have ever purchased!!!

Car is awesome
It is rock solid on the road and easy to drive: tons of power, good handling, quiet, and comfortable. The infotainment system is good enough I think, don't let some over-the-top negative reviews deter you. I do think they should add Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and sure a volume knob would be good. But you use the steering wheel controls most of the time anyway.

Be Warned - No Blue in Bluetooth
Blue tooth works like no other car...and not in a good way. Very confusing and difficult to use. So poor I received a ticket because one has to transfer the call when one receives it. I did not do it in time and was pulled over by officer friendly. We are debating to sell the car because of how bad the blue tooth performs. While I am on a role...the transmission jerks between gears. Make sure you are able to test the blue tooth with your phone and drive it in many conditions prior to buying it. Car does drive well and handles well.

Safety Issues, Anyone?!
I love driving this car, enough to trade in a low milage 2013 Pilot for it. However... I have several issues, and as others have stated, Honda rushes to close cases of complaints... official statement by Honda Corporate Customer Service: "It works as designed, there is no problem." #1 The hood on the car flexes/bends in ALL directions when passing 18 wheelers at highway speeds on windy days in the desert: I have filed a report with the NTSB. The dealer cannot duplicate this condition, so the case keeps getting closed... we'll see about that! #2 The Touch Screen System is Junk! Not only is it slow and hard to navigate, I have now been told from Honda that ".. you cannot connect a phone to the usb port and use the phone to place a call at the same time." Say WHAT?! The phone will only work on bluetooth, and will not do that if the phone is plugged in to listen to music that is stored on it. SO, if you need to make an emergency call, you have to unplug the phone... but good luck getting a fast connection, or any connection, without turning the car off to reboot the system. Not only that, but their system has corrupted two iPhone 6's in a row; the first one had to be replaced, and lost all data on it... A senior Tech at Apple said they have never seen a phone corrupted to this level #3 The receiver hitch is designed and built with a steep angle towards the ground in it: want to use a flat platform to move things? Watch it hit the ground on any steep driveway... and your bikes will not hang straight on a bike rack: that larger the rack, the worse it is. #4 The roof rack... is useless! My 2013 had openings in the side rails to attach straps/lines too.. where did they go? The new racks are very difficult to tie too, and the side rails also come shipped painted Silver Metallic Flake: ALL models, same color! I made my dealer paint it black to match my white car's trim. That was before finding out how useless the rack is... 8/11/2016 Update Did not drive car for four months: drove it to Arizona last week: #1 Hood still flexing in four directions when passing 18 wheelers on the freeway. #2 Touch screen completely blacked out twice during the trip: had to pull off the freeway, shut the car off and back on to reboot computer..?! Still refuses to interface with my iPhone 6, but at least it did not destroy my phones software as it did twice before... both phones had to be replaced: Apple says they have never seen this level of damage to their OS before. #3 Gas pump nozzle did not shut off quick enough, spilled small amount of gas around the filler tube and into the built in drain: entire car filled with gas fumes, had to roll down all the windows and wait a half hour to continue driving... #4 Gas fill cover does not lay flat on fender: dealer says they are all arriving that way, there is no fix! Dropped the car at the dealer yesterday, told them to keep it until it gets repaired: told them I will file a Lemon Law case against them if they do not repair it asap. Dealer has stated they have a major problem with all of their vehicles with Touch Screens, but Corporate Customer Care still claims there are no issues. #UPDATE: Honda Corporate Customer Care, and the "relationship" they have with the dealers re warranty repair is a Total Scam! If the dealers cannot duplicate what's happening to the cars (i.e. Intermittant Gas Fumes in the car, they report No Problem to Corporate: then Corporate will do nothing further to investigate, period). The dealer now refuses to write up the continuing problem! That's a huge issue for States with Lemon Laws: it skirts the laws by eliminating documentation for a legal filing! Watch Out! Update 2/12/18 Continued Safety issue w/ gas fumes filling the car on occasion: one dealer confirmed the issue, as it happened nearby: two dealers now unable to duplicate the problem, so Corparate Honda, again, would not authorize any testing of the fuel system; states there “.. is nothing to repair; no probem exists.” Time bomb scenario adds the marketing excitement Honda wants, apparently!

Giver's Remorse.
We gave away our 2004 EXL Pilot with 210,000 miles on it. We had remorse. We missed our Pilot. I particularly liked the new styling of the 2016 Pilot. Looks similar to the more expensive Infinity SUV. My wife and I like everything about the vehicle. From the camera on the right hand mirror, the back up camera with 3 options, the cargo space which easily handles 4 sets of golf clubs, instrument panel, moon roof, lower insurance cost than our trade-in 2012 Toyota Highlander SE,dual blue tooth--handles two phones, and more features. Only 400 miles on the vehicle at this time. Can't comment on maintenance costs and reliability, however if it performs like our 2004 Pilot I will be very satisfied.

Don't get a flat on your touring!
Honda dealers don't yet have the tires for this vehicle in stock! Our touring has been running on the "doughnut" spare for a week now. The dealer ordered the tire and told us it would be here in a week. They just called and told us that it will be another week due to "backordered" or some foolishness. This will make 2 weeks my wife has had to ride on this cheap spare...not really comfortable with that. They choose a tire that NO ONE carries, dealers or locally. Seriously no one can get tires for this vehicle without ordering. Our dealer Moss Motors has been less than helpful, not even bothering to return a call as promised. Come on Honda! Regretting our new vehicle choice at the moment.

Dony Buy this car, radio does not work well!!!
FM radio does not work. Honda is aware but says sorry we don't have a fix for this. Dealership is aware, sorry no fix. But Honda keeps making and selling these vehicles. Don't pay $36000 for a car that does not function like a new car and the manufacturer does not care enough to fix the problem.

Test drove. Did not buy.
I own a 2012 AWD Touring. Honda makes a great car. I usually trade my cars every 2-3 years because I put a lot of mileage on them and always love to play with the newest tech toys. This time around though I held off buying a new car because I was waiting for Honda to come out with the new Pilot. I saw the very first one in person while getting my oil changed when it was still on the truck at the dealership. It was hard to get a good view of it but from what I could see, I was excited. That excitement ended when I actually saw the car in the showroom. UGH! It's a minivan! They converted my beloved SUV to a minivan :( They ruined it! They ruined it!!! Nevertheless, I had to test drive one. I am on my second Pilot Touring and have really liked them. No, LOVED them. Albeit my 2012's entertainment system has been less than stellar. The sound is great but the BlueTooth connection for my phone constantly disconnects & reconnects calls at random making it impossible to handle business calls hands-free. This does this with my iPhone, my wife's iPhone, my friends Samsung Galaxy and another friends Nokia. Honda replaced the BT module but it didn't solve the problem. The second flaw in the entertainment system is that it loves to lock up my iPod. Not just my iPod, my wife's as well. It can play for hours or even days with no problems. Other times it can play for five minutes at a clip and I have to disconnect it and do a hard reset on the iPod. That's a pain in the neck (and dangerous) while driving at highway speeds by yourself. Honda agreed that there is an issue but can't seem to find it. $42,000 cars that don't work correctly don't make me happy but it's my only complaint with this car. Anyway, back to the 2016 Pilodyssey. Not a fan of the looks inside nor out. It's a minivan. I know I repeated that but really, you can't say it enough. It's an Odyssey II. You really realize that when you get in the front seat and flip down the cheap armrests. The rear captains chairs second that motion. The touch screen nav/control panel was dog slow. I kept turning the radio off trying to turn it on. Ever click or tap something on a computer/phone screen and it doesn't react right away so you click/tap it again, only to realize the first click/tap hadn't reacted yet so the second click/tap canceled the first? UGH!!!! I have no patience for slow tech. Especially because I’m a tech myself. Underpowered processors irk me to no end. Strike two, Honda. The fact that Honda/Acura backed down to every other manufacturers level of nav restriction is quite annoying. My 2006 MDX, 2010 Pilot, current 2012 Pilot, along with my wife's 2006 RL, 2010 Crosstour, and 2012 Odyssey all had Nav systems that allowed you to have full touch/dial/voice access to any and all features of the Nav systems. Now Honda put restrictions of the use of some of the features of the new Pilot's nav. It's still better than most though and Honda's voice control is WAY better than Toyota's. My 2006 4Runner's voice control was the worst I've ever seen. Maybe it's gotten better by now, IDK. I switched to Honda products and haven't looked back at Toyota or Lexus since. Funny thing is this year we traded in my wife's Odyssey EX-L Nav and bought a Murano. I won't say much about that car other than it's very nice but we'll soon be trading it in. Nissan’s Nav sucks. Enough for me to take a loss on the car. So, again, back to the 16 Pilot. It rode nice. It has way more power than my 2012. The lane mitigation feature would take some getting used to. I don't like someone holding onto my steering wheel at the same time as I'm trying to drive but, hey, it's a feature EVERY car with a driver who loves to text while they drive should have. Maybe that will keep them in their lane instead of swerving into mine. I don't text and drive and I have pretty good control of my vehicle so I'm not sure that I wouldn't be turning that feature off. I'd have to give it a month or so to see if I could get used to it. One thing Honda needs to do is stop putting in the rear entertainment system. Make it an option. I have used mine maybe 4 times in the 5 ½ years I've had my two Pilots. My grandkids used it when we drove them to the zoo and the mountains when we took my car. Other than that, it's $2,000 feature that I don't use. Besides, DVD's are becoming a thing of the past. I have 400 movies, 600 TV shows, and 15,000 songs. EVERYTHING is digital. I haven't used a CD nor DVD in over 3 years. Incorporate video through USB or BT instead and charge the $150 or so that those connections and software would cost. So here's what this boils down to for me. And I hardly believe I am going to say this after pounding my fist on the desk in favor of Honda over American made cars...I'm negotiating a price to trade my 2012 Pilot AWD Touring in on a....yes....really....2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland.

Not for a 6'4 plus height person
We test drove an EX in July and went with the Touring model b/c of the features. Who would have known the seat belts were different from the EX to the Touring. I took the car into the dealership and they fixed what they could but I was told by American Honda the seat belts were mounted differently on these 2 models- so stupid!!! You'd think since you are paying more for a Touring it would have the better features in seat belts? WRONG! The passenger seat belt is 4 inches off from the drivers side, my husbands knees hit the dash on the drivers side but not the passengers side (yes the seat is all the way back), and the seat belt barely fits him (he is a bigger guy, broader shoulder guy) on the drivers side but every other seat belt in the vehicle, he can buckle just fine and not be "locked up". His brother is 6'6 and doesn't fit comfortably in the car either. We are already looking to trade it in within a year. Not the comfort we test drove in July.

3 Strikes - Your Out
Strike 1- Styling, It simply looks like every other vehicle on the road. The interior is more of a mini van than SUV. There is no center arm rest or large storage area as in previous Pilots. It has mini van style arm rests. Strike 2 - Too much unnecessary electronics such as the touch screen audio, push button start and electric tailgate. (Are people really that lazy that they can not open and close the tailgate) Strike 3 - Handling. This vehicle does not handle well. The steering is light and does not seem strong enough for a vehicle this size and weight. There is also a weird bottom weight feel. Out here in the country where I live, we have lots of winding roads. I have never had any car or truck handle so poorly and with so much body roll. There is no confidence when driving. In my opinion, Honda has taken several steps backwards with the 2016 Pilot. It is not an improvement from the last 2 generations.

Nicest SUV for the money I have ever owned
I have had Tahoes (3) Escalades Blazers and traded a 2009 pilot in for the 2016. I cannot believe how much a leap forward the new pilot is. It checks all of my boxes, main thing is the ability to carry up to 8 in comfort (including the rear seats). The ride and road manners are great seems much more spacious than the 2009 and the fuel economy is aces. We average around 30 MPG on the road per the trip computer. A++++++++

What no CD, storage and slow tech
Slow touch screen, no CD player if you don't get rear entertainment! We did not looking for size and comfort along with the grand kids some of the time. We like everything about the car except the slow tech. At least throw us some storage for music and books.

Pilot Review
Our 2016 Pilot is roomy, quiet and reliable. We are getting 24.4mpg for everyday driving. A little more MPG with cruise on and on an interstate.

Great upgrade
This is our fourth Honda, we traded our 2011 Odyssey on this new Pilot and wow what a nice upgrade. The SUV drives great, it has some great safety features with plenty of power balanced with efficiency. We drove a few other SUV's prior to making this purchase and pilot is great value for your money. All the reliability of a Honda with some luxury features that just outshine other vehicles in this price range. Perfect for our family moving out of the mini van stage. Still plenty of room if our College/Career aged Son's join us on a trip or if we need to haul any gear. But a very respectable ride for work and pleasure, love the features of remote start, adaptive cruise, and lane keeping. Really nice for day trips for work or weekend getaways.

The 2016 Honda Pilot; lots to love and hate!
The new Honda pilot has lots of really great features! I love the amount of cargo space. The biggest in the mid-range SUV. It has a little more power and is much more aerodynamic. Making it reasonable that they can get better gas milage than the older version. Don't believe it! I purchased the new Honda pilot after having a 2013 Pilot. The increased gas milage in spite of the slightly bigger engine and more horsepower was what attracted me. They advertised 26mpg on the highway. I do 98% of my miles on the highway, so I was interested. The computer on the dashboard calculates the mpg for you. When you first start out the mpg seems like it is going to be close to 25mpg or so, but after a couple of hundred miles or so the dash reading is really 22mpg. Well perhaps I'm a more aggressive driver or I drive 71mph and their calculation was for 65mph. So, when I fill up the tank and divide the miles traveled by the gallons I put in it, I find out that I'm only getting 20mpg. Their computer isn't correct. I suspect this is deliberate deception by corporate Honda. The computer should be able to calculate the mpg exactly no matter how I drive. Other than the poor gas milage, the Honda Pilot has lots to love! I love the familiar controls, the backup camera is especially useful. It drives very well, more like a car than a truck. Other bigger SUV's I tested drove like a truck. They are based on a pick up frame, so this isn't surprising. The Pilot has lots of nice features, like the great storage for all the little things you want to take with you. There is a third row seating for those with extra kids, however with those seats tucked in, there is more room for suitcases or a dog than any other mid-sized SUV.

Family Friendly SUV
Great ride overall. Comfy interior, smooth ride, great storage, 3rd row seating, intelligent entry system & remote start are wonderful. The all wheel.drive system is phenominal, as we got to try it out in snow/ice the weekend after we bought it. Kids love it, wife loves it too. Cons are semi-weak acceleration and soft braking, as well as no access to 3rd row with child seats installed on both sides of 2nd row. The speakers are weak too, and I've tried many bass/treble/subwoofer/fade combinations. The entertainment system takes some getting used to, and is slow at times, but far surpasses anything I've ever owned. We were able to get ours right at market pricing. Overall, we enjoy our 2016 Pilot, and are glad we chose it over the Ford and Odyssey we were considering.

Love love love!
It took me several weeks of dealing with car dealerships until I found exactly what I wanted (color, trim). I've owned it for about a month and I'm very impressed with the highway and city mpg. We drove on our first long trip and we were averaging 28mpg.

Redesigned Pilot-nice job
Limited inventory available. Trim levels options are very rigid. Ie. The were none of the EX-with sensing which is what I would have preferred to have leased. I have owned Pilots in the past and moved to a CRV last time. This re-design is a great cross between the CRV and Odyssey so it works for the family. The gas mileage is 4-6 MPG than my old Pilot. Please have a hybrid for my next lease!!

My new baby.
I just bought this Pilot 6/15 and to this Pilot has surpassed my expectations. The ride is both very smooth with very little outside noise. The best part is that my grandchildren love it as it is so roomy, each gets their little section..I have now had my Pilot for 6 months and still am extremely happy with it. I have taken a couple of trips and the Pilot handles great on the highway. It has plenty of power and really good response. The seats are extremely comfortable on long rides and there is very little roadnoise which makes ride even better. The controls are all easily accessible and are quite easy to use. The safety features are excellent like lane departure warnings, the rear camera and automatically slowing you down if you are following too close to other cars. I am completely happy with the entertainment system and sound system is excellent. I would highly recommend this vehicle. This is a follow up, I am still extremely happy with my Pilot. Now have around 38000 miles and have taken a long trip since last review, we drove all the way to Sanibel Island. We loved how comfortable the ride was and had no stiffness in our backs or legs as the seats are so comfortable and roomy. The Pilot had plenty of power for this long trip and we averaged 27 MPG on the trip.

Front Seats Make it Un-Buyable
Just came back from driving a 2016 Pilot and I feel completely dejected and defeated. After a ton of research and considerations regarding a new 3-row vehicle I put the 2016 Pilot at the top of the list but now have to settle for less [Santa Fe or Sorento] because of the Honda's front seats. And BTW, where the hell is Edmunds on this issue? No mention at all, truly no credibility for them at this point. The front seats of the pilot are quite literally like a child's car seat, yes even in the Elite level trim. If all you need the armrest for is resting the tip of your elbow to sip tea then you should be fine. If you expect to use it to shift your weight, alternate body positions, get comfortable for a long-haul, you know ANY of the things you do to find and maintain a comfortable position, then forget it. The armrest is a fold-down plank that's [again literally] closer in size to a ruler than to a center console armrest. And on top of that it's flimsy and wobbly in exactly the same way that the fold-down armrests on our children's car seats are. And yes, I'm sorry to be so freaking dramatic but I do mean this literally - they are child sized and child grade weight/feel/strength. It's truly shocking that Honda's effort to "upgrade" the interior design and materials quality but make such an egregious catastrophic fail on the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT element of an interior - the front seat's ability to keep the driver comfortable. Truly stunning. Unless and until this is resolved [aftermarket retrofit?] the new Honda Pilot is, wait for it, literally un-buyable. PS - Equally stunning is that the Edmunds review doesn't inform us about this. For something that Honda deserves to be completely eviscerated for, there's not even a mention of it. Considering how often minor issues are amplified into concerns/cons, Edmund's silence on the Pilot's shameful and distressingly abominable front seats leaves no doubt that something shady is going on.

2016 Pilot Elite - great cars, two improvements
Bought 2016 Pilot Elite. Pros: lots of cupholders (that are lit up), lane keep assistance, automatic cruise control. Major selling point: one touch 2nd row in/out (no other manufacturer has this for 3 row SUVs) and spacious 3rd row. Cons/improvements: right turn camera does not exist (in the touring model, there is a camera on the right side mirror that shows on the display when you turn so you can see the blind spot) in the Elite there is a sound indicator but no camera (one would think for the next model up, it would have been included), backup camera only (no 360 view camera) with all the "cameras" and detection in the car one would assume a 360 surround view camera, DVD play works great but one has to use the remote in the back seat - no menu options from front console (have a heck of a time turning on subtitles, hitting the play button, skipping chapters, and there's no memory play) one has to pull the car over and set the dvd to the correct setting before driving or one has screaming kids. (Note: use case is 3 kids, husband and dog)
