Pleased except for the radio....

The touch screen with the steering wheel controls works well, once you figure them out, but I don't like not being able to tune the AM/FM/XM radio to a nonpreset. It is very cumbersome to change the station to a specific one, especially if the only option is screen touch, & can be dangerous when driving.

Owned for 1 Month

I have owned the Pilot for only one month, so the reliability and value are based on my expectations. As has been said in many reviews, the music system -- specifically not being able to use music on an USB -- is very disappointing. In terms of the review items above, everything is 'OK' but I wouldn't consider anything "great". I bought this car because the seat adjustments and visibility of controls, along with the size of the SUV fit my body so I feel safe and comfortable driving it. I like the 'high-end' comforts such as fully adjustable and leather seats, and seat warmers. There's several features I paid for that won't see much or any use (including the rear-seat entertainment), but since they were packaged with comforts that I wanted I didn't feel there was a choice. All that said, compared to the other vehicles in this general price range, I am happy with my choice.

I love everything about the Honda Pilot and love the new design. Very good quality SUV. My only complaint is that the stereo system (FM & AM) radio reception is terrible. It constantly fades in and out and makes listening to your favorite songs annoying. So while I currently have a 3 month free membership to Sirius XM, I enjoy that. Sadly, if Honda doesn't do a recall on the antenna in the car, I'll end up being a lifetime member of Sirius XM which I had not planned. They dropped the ball on this one EASY thing.

Honda & Honda dealer does not care about you, they have your money & tough. I drive with a sign on the back of the car. The new car radio is crap dealer say's it's fine 9/30/2017 spoke .with Walter a regional case manager, he said there is no fix for the sound system. I do feel it is the radio because I can play my 30-year-old walkman transistor radio through the car speakers and it sounds good. Honda is still putting them radios in 17 pilots and crv.I also filed a claim with the national enter for dispute settlement and 2 weeks before the review Honda offered me 4 hundred dollars to withdraw my claim and the next week they went up to 1,750.dollars and they still said it works like it was designed.I got rid of it with 6,500 miles on it also will never ever have another Honda.and I tell anyone that is thinking of one how Honda dealer,Honda service and Honda America take care of the customer.

This is the third Honda Pilot that I have owned and it is definitely the best. It is very smooth riding and handling. The interior and exterior finish is superb especially the liberal use of leather on the interior. The complaints that I read about prior to purchase regarding the navigation system are unfounded. I found the entertainment and navigation very easy to operate unless you object to frequent cleaning of the touch screen. Conclusion: Congratulations to Honda. This is the best Pilot that they have offered.

First new car, first time Honda buyer. VERY happy. Absolutely love the space in the car. The technology is amazing. Do not have the DVD package, wanted kids to actually interact with me in the car :) LOVE the Honda Road Readers - can download books onto my iPhone and then using the bluetooth, we can all listen to stories. My favorite!

Purchased my 2016 Pilot LX in late July -- what a mistake ; after 300 miles heard a popping noise in chassis / suspension when backing out and steering to move forward - very pronounced; brought in for service and the service rep said it was a bushing; well it re-occurred -- now 1500 miles and it is in the shop again -- guess what -- was told that Honda is aware of the problem BUT while no TSB is out , Honda mechanics tried another fix with the driver's side wheel assembly and frame ... will see how this holds up in a month. Otherwise, the LX remains a very good vehicle ... just that after owning my share of American cars in the '60s and '70s where it was the norm to visit the dealership within a week oe two for defective issues, I have gotten "spoiled" in owning good foreign cars where a visit to the shop is only for scheduled maintenance. Update 12/15/2016- the popping noise has returned -- so much for Honda Quality unless totally built in Japan. Update 12/16/2017 - been to the service dept twice where an attempt was made to fix this problem -- not successful.. so I bought the proverbial lemon

Terrible Transmission in Most Expensive Honda!

Transmission never worked correctly! During the third Regular Maintenance and after several upgrades to take care of the Transmission problems in previous Regular Maintenance appointments, I was told Honda had ordered the Dealer to keep my vehicle so they could replace the Transmission! What, I yelled! It only has 12,000 miles and you have fixed twice before and now you tell me it needs replaced!!! Disappointment began and went on and on and on. Told transmission problem was being experienced by others....Given an Accord not an SUV to drive for weeks...told dealer I wanted another new 2016 Honda Pilot Elite manufactured after Transmission problems were known and hopefully corrected...Was told how to contact Honda company.....Which told me how to look at the Owner's manual and appeal their decision to not give me a new one but rather fix the old one....Filed the appeal....The so called reputable board turned me down...and turned down (or did not even see) my second choice of "you fix it and give me back money I lost by trading wife's older Honda Pilot and my 2013 Honda Civic in to make my wife happy....They was NOT mentioned in the turn down of a new one but they also did not refer to it and I am unsure if they even knew about it!!...They requested I reply and agree to their decision.....I just filed all the paperwork....so sad am I

We have owned 5 different Hondas in the last 11 years, passing down the older models to our growing children. This Honda Pilot touring AWD is by far the nicest of them. I researched this vehicle for two months before it even came out and has definately been worth the wait. This will be a vehicle that we will keep until it dies! It has everything you would need and more. I still haven't said, " I just wish it had_____." I don't think I will. I have the power I love with all of the conveniences, and most importantly, the space I need, wrapped up in a stylish new package.

I hate this car

Mechanically it's a typical Honda and runs ok. Starting to see some kinks in engine performance at 70k miles but overall it's average and working. Sensing something loose in transmission or suspension but I haven't diagnosed it yet. Media system and phone connection are awful, whoever created this should be kicked and whoever decided to put this into a mass production vehicle should be kicked twice. My 2010 Audi has far superior controls and connectivity that actually work. It might sound trivial but it completely negates the safety benefits of hands-free driving when simple stuff does not work. I'm good with technology so this isn't a user issue. I wish every day a meteor would strike the car overnight so I can just get an insurance payout. Never another, do not buy this car.

Sensing features don't work

We bought a 2016 Honda Pilot Touring edition because we do a lot of interstate driving from PA to upstate NY which means we drive in all sorts of weather. The sensing features become disabled when driving in snow. I asked my dealer what the warning symbol meant. Their response was that I had to wipe off the sensors because snow interferes with the sensors. So my reply was, on a 300 mile drive, I could possibly have to stop 50 times to wipe off the sensors, exposing myself to the elements on the side of dangerous interstate! Additionally, when it rains, rain droplets form on the cameras which makes it impossible to see clearly. I wrote Honda and their reply was basically, thank you for letting us know your concerns.

First and Last Honda I will Ever Buy

My wife wanted to trade our Mercedes GL450 for a new 2016 Pilot Elite. She liked the new design and the features on the Elite cannot be matched on similar vehicles. Her parents have had several Honda's. This was our first. Within the first 1ok miles we had several software recalls. One was for the computer adding miles to the odometer when the car was turned off. Not sure how many miles, but they extended the warranty 12k miles. At 16k miles the transmission started chirping between 3rd and 4th gear. I was told it just needed a firmware reflash. I shared information that suggested otherwise, but the dealer refused to listen. Picked it up the next day and asked if it still chirped. The answer was yes, but that I would have to drive it 40 miles for the system to reteach itself. Drove it 60 and took it back the next day with a louder chirp. Shared several pages from previous owners that stated there was a broken part in the transmission that cross contaminated engine coolant with transmission fluid. Shared that with the dealer. He asked what the resolution was and I told him a new transmission. Turns out I was right. Fast forward to 33k miles. Received a letter from Honda stating that our car now needs a new radiator, all new hoses and O rings and they need to test the engine to make sure it was not damaged. This is all from the original transmission issue. While the car was being repaired, I traded it on a 2016 Lexus GX460. I have been a loyal Toyota/Lexus/Scion user for many years and never should have let my wife talk me into this Honda Pilot. First and last Honda I will ever own! BTW, she loves the new Lexus.

I got the EX-L with AWD, since we frequently go to snowy areas in winter. The Pilot is very comfortable, the controls are intuitive and easy to operate, and the ride and handling feel solid but not harsh. The mileage is surprisingly good for a vehicle of this size, although the actual mpg calculated by odometer miles vs gallons at the gas station are about 1.5 - 2 mpg less than the calculated mpg per tank on the dashboard. Nevertheless, we got high mid-high 20's on a recent long trip over predominantly level terrain, despite having the AWD version. The materials have the look and feel of quality, the ride is quiet and smooth, and it is a thoroughly enjoyable vehicle to drive. The very back seat can easily hold two average sized adults, compared with negligible space in the very back seat in a Toyota Highlander I had compared in making the purchase decision. Update; now at 7 years and 90+ K miles, no significant mechanical issues of any sort. Very satisfied

Almost too smooth and too well isolated, not much different when going from 30 miles/hr to 75, barely could hear engine roar. Very quiet and comfy even at EX trim without acoustic glass or windshield. Night and day in terms of noise reduction and comfort level compared to 2007 pilot traded, to the level you could barely sense the road condition. Much increased torque allows it to make a tight and precise U-turn and during parallel parking despite much bigger than its older ones. Well improved knee and leg room for front seats, remote start is a plus for EX. No auto passenger seat still sucks for such a pricy ride. Hard to come by a car with color or trim you want, so most dealers won't have any discount. Even lucky me got the actual out of door of EX $9000+ (tax and extended warranty price included) more than the 2007 EX-L because of its low production, high demand and inflation etc. Supposed styling and comfort are worth all of it. Sound system is fabulous if you play HQ or original song/tracks off the phone, no CD changer taxes the phone too much. Sound setting does not change the track characteristics too much. FM radio is easily the worst among any cars I ever drove in last 25+ years, specially the music ones. It is either a very lousy antenna or as if someone intentionally did that to steer you away from conventional FM. Update 2.5 years later: Solid car for daily commute or long range travel; remote key battery died recently and was told if key was put close enough should still able to start the car. There were a few occasions when engine warning light sometime on from a few hours to a day or two, no particular symptom or mechanical issue

I am seeing a lot of negative comments but if you are expecting a Mercedes GLE for under $35000 then you are dreaming. I bought Pilot LX 2016 for my wife while we own a 2011 Toyota RAV4. And after driving Pilot I sold my RAV4 to buy another Pilot LX. Reasons are : 1)Same 22.5mpg on both even though Pilot is much bigger. 2) Pilot was much smoother and quite (in RAV4 we could not have a conversation in the highway especially with people on 2nd row). 3)Much more powerful and better pickup (my RAV4 was 4 cylinder; can't comment on RAV4 2011 6 cylinder). 4) When we make trips with friends we haul them in our 2 SUVs (3rd row is good enough for 2 people under 6ft or 3 kids; contrary to other SUVs with 3rd row where your head hits the top on each bump. There is no better SUV of same size and at same price in the market today!

I had a 2007 Pilot, with 200,000 miles. And it was great but I wanted something newer. I'm glad I made it the new Pilot! It is seriously the best SUV after comparing other similar ones. The safety is amazing. Comfort is great, the seats are the best. I love the LED's in the front and the back. Also, it's an awesome looking SUV. I think it's the best looking one. If you are looking for an SUV with great technology, safety, comfort, and all around luxury, I highly suggest that you make it the Pilot. I fogot to mention the gas mileage, I get an average of 26 to 27 mpg. Which is incredible for this SUV. GREAT VAN!!!

Our family has leased a new Honda Pilot every 3 years since 2003.Our current lease is up and we went to get a new Pilot. Needless to say, we did not like the redesigned Pilot. Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of improvements to the new Pilot, but the overall style is more of a minivan than an SUV. The quality of materials is significantly better than our current 2012 Pilot and we like the captain chairs. The one button to move the middle seats is very easy and the camera in the passenger side mirror is very cool! The ventilated front seats are comfortable. What we did not care for is the minivan style flip down arm rests on the front seats and touch screen audio system. You can see every finger print on the screen. Our Acura also has the touch screen audio and the fingerprints never go away. It drives me crazy! The touch screen is bit more labor intensive to change the station or volume, so you will be more distracted from the road and traffic. There are controls on the steering wheel for some functions though. Our Acura also has push button start and both my husband and I would prefer an actual key. It is very easy to leave the car running, especially how quiet cars are today. The push button transmission selector is in a really bad location. I have visions of a beverage mishap and a very expensive repair to follow. Why the transmission selector is electronic and not mechanical is also a concern. The visibility is very good from the driver’s seat and the ride is awesome. The engine start-stop is something I would have to get used to, although. I really don’t see the saving as the mpg is rated the same as what we get in our 2012 Pilot. The steering and handling on the new Pilot is a huge disappointment. The steering is weak with a weird bottom heavy feel and it is slow to respond. The steering does not feel substantial enough to handle a vehicle of that size and weight. Needless to say it is very unnatural and not something I would want to deal with every day. The new Pilot has significant body roll on right hand turns, but seemed to be Ok turning left. If you take your turns at a snail’s pace, it might not roll as much. I am also not fond of the exterior styling. It screams “Me To” as it looks like an expanded CRV. We have been driving Honda’s and Acura’s for a very long time and have been satisfied and loyal customers, we are now looking at other manufacturers for our next SUV.

Spent 6 weeks researching this class of vehicle. Even though none of them met all my requirements, the Pilot met most. Unlike its competitors where I felt like a sardine in a supposed "mid size" SUV, the Pilot just makes me feel overall comfortable in it! Kind of like your favorite chair! Just got it home last night due to having to wait 3 1/2 weeks for it to be delivered to the dealer. Apparently they are in big demand and dealers can't keep them on the lots. So, I haven't put it through it's paces yet. A trip to the North Georgia mountains will be it's first non-urban driving test. Some things I'd like to see Honda change: more insulation against road noise, more cup holders up front, less tilt to display screen, lower the back hatch entrance to help with lifting heavy objects into back (its too high), offer standard moon roof on lower end models, brighten up exterior color options (way too much gray/black...yuk!). So far I love it! Update 7/2017: Have had it for a year now. Still love the comfort and ease of driving, especially on long trips. Love that my Steel Sapphire color seems to be unique to where I live. Interior climate control and visibility is super. Wish it got better city gas mileage; highway gas mileage is great. Have had problems with Bluetooth Handsfree Link with new Google Fi phone; still working out kinks. Wish entertainment system display used it's real estate more efficiently; has too much wasted space that could be used to display info on music, etc. Rear-view "kids mirror" is a waste, as in most vehicles; should have consulted more moms on design. Auto rear view mirror dimming at night doesn't seem to work well. Rough shifting gears at low speeds between braking and accelerating. Still glad I bought it! Update 1/2018: Still so glad I bought this vehicle! Super comfortable. Road noise still a bit annoying; tends to interfere with handsfree phone recognizing commands. Handsfree phone is quirky; sometimes works well, sometimes has a mind of it's own when pairing spoken command with phone directory. Easy to hear person on other end of call though. Braking is not as "catchy" as when new but still not as smooth as I'd like. Still missing extra cup holders up front. Leather seats holding up well. Update 2/2020: Still glad I bought it. I get lots of compliments on the color and interior comfort. Noticed some newer models on the road with what I consider to be "better" rear brake/turn/back up lights; more traditional with turn signal as orange/yellow bulb, back up white at brake light level. My 2016 back up lights are super low on the back bumper and no one in parking lots seems to see them when I'm backing up! Hands-free phone still drives me nuts! I'm thinking the excessive road noise interferes with the system recognizing my commands; doesn't work at all with the moon roof open. Unlike other reviews I've read, I think the sound system is just fine. Plan to keep it for a long time. Update 08/2021: Still very happy with the Pilot. Same things still annoying but as stated before, plan to keep it a long time. BTW, I bought it new, unlike the "used" category this review is listed in. Update 7/2022: Same things still bug me, especially road noise. A friend recently bought a KIA Telluride and when I rode in it, it was WAY quieter than my Pilot. Still think the road noise interferes with hands-free calling...annoying. Still great highway MPG, not so much in city. Still comfortable interior.

Subwoofer doesn't work for many people. Radio switches from Mono to Stereo sounding like volume is changing. Charging system issue keeps popping up and dealer doesn't know how to fix any of these issues. Honda is closing cases opened via corporate. This is very frustrating for current owners. Can read more here: https://t.co/JdvyKEMyCr Beyond that like the capacity in the interior, drive, and fuel economy. Breaks could be improved, and front seat comfort could have been better quality.

Avoid the 2016 Honda Pilot EX-L new model junk!

Purchased a brand new 2016 Honda Pilot EXL from Kenosha Honda in Kenosha Wi. I also purchased the extended warranty from Keno Honda for this vehicle. I've had many new Hondas (7) to be exact 2 are still in my family being used by my kids. The 2016 drove nice and problem free until it reached the 40,000 mile mark. My wife the Sunday driver had all of the warning lights go off brake, engine, traction control,ABS and engine emissions system failure. Took it in to the dealer. The vehicle was there for 6 days. The catalytic converters were replaced, at 40,000?? Makes no sense. Took the vehicle home. We drove it for 2 hours all of the lights came on again. Back to the dealer. Car was returned and said it was all repaired. Transmission started to make noises and another warning light. Decided to get it serviced one more time and trade it off. Never had problems with any other Honda.

Front Seats are the biggest let down

We have been a Honda family since 1987. Today we are retired, and as we enter an era of long-distance driving, our orthopedic and spinal surgeries dictate that our new car MUST have orthopedically correct seats (aka "multi-contour" in many circles). Much to my dismay, when at the dealer, I discovered that the Elite's driver seat has only a two-way lumbar support (in and out), and the passenger seat has no lumbar support at all. Worse, the passenger front seat, although power, only goes front and back, not up and down or tilt. BOTTOM LINE: The Pilot Elite seat comfort is below par for the luxury SUV segment. It looks like our days as a Honda family will soon be over.

We love our new Pilot, having owned it for only a couple of weeks to this point. For us, it came down to the Pilot vs. the Toyota Highlander. Our previous 2 vehicles were a Toyota Rav4 and Toyota Venza. We had no problems with either of them, but we felt it wouldn't hurt to look at the competition- the Pilot. We test drove a 2016 Pilot, then a 2015 Highlander back-to-back. Surprisingly, we both quickly chose the Pilot hands down. We felt that it was best for our family. Highlanders 3rd row was quite inferior. As for the reviewers that criticize the Pilot's styling, I can't help but wonder why you would still move forward and purchase the vehicle if you didn't like the way it looks. I personally like the way it looks. As for the 9 speed transmission, I admit that we were tempted to get the Touring model, but some of the critical reviews scared us off. If you are considering a 9 speed, be sure to take one out for an extensive test ride to save yourself from any surprises later. All in all, we are quite pleased with our Pilot

Poorly Engineered Driver Comfort

If you like the comfort of sitting on an airliner in coach, you like driving this vehicle..The lumbar support is minimal. The leather seats are cheaply contoured and result in butt shifting/sliding on cornering. The center armrest is practically stuck to your rib and super thin so that I find my elbow constantly slipping off.. and I'm thin.. If your a little chunky (like that annoying chubby guy often next to me on the plane) your arm/elbow will be swinging in the breeze. Honda in it's infinite "wisdom" however gives you a nice wide center armrest in the backseat. And so when technology allows you to convert this vehicle to a driverless one , you'll be quite comfortable in the back seat !!! Daaa!!.. what the hell is that about Honda "engineers"???.. Don't you guys ever drive these cars in prototype after those pin head engineers draw the pictures.. When you buy a stepped up edition (like I did) you'd expect a CD player to be standard...To my (stupid) surprise, it's not on this vehicle ! That's extra and then only comes in the 2nd row seat..???? It takes bumps hard given that it's not what I would consider a true SUV/ Truck..... I'm a long time 4Runner owner and am used to a truck ride and so I certainly didn't expect a luxury car ride. However this vehicle takes bumps really really hard and has a tendency to roll side to side. The truck (crossover?) is peppy and has a giddy up passing gear on highway...but when driving stop and go in traffic it feels like it's in a very low gear and I find myself checking to see if the lever is in fact in drive.. The 2nd row seat back portion folds forward with the push of a button. However that's when the work begins.. You then have to use a manual lever on the side of the chair and keep jacking and jacking it to get the seat to fold down to cargo level.. When the seats do finally fold down, there's a huge gap (hole) in the cargo area.. What's that about Honda? On a positive note , I love the storage compartment in the far rear cargo area.. Overall I wouldn't classify this vehicle as a truck even though it rides hard like one..In fact it's basically a bigger version of their CRV.. Honda calls this a truck but if that's so why not put a protective coating on the rear cargo bumper..The painted prissy bumper is already chipped in numerous areas from taking items in and out.. If your looking for a Truck/ SUV..Look elsewhere .. This vehicle is a stretch CRV and not a Truck.. ALSO Don't believe the gas mileage advertised..28MPG LOL I'm getting overall 17- 19.. Most hwy 22. I've had the vehicle 20 months and still can't figure out how to regularly access and play all my IPOD playlists easily..and so the reviews I read re complexity of what should be a straight forward audio display are all true..

Very weird shifting/braking. At slow speeds, "phantom braking" causes sudden deceleration. Push start only works if I'm pushing very hard on the brake. JUST INCREDIBLE to me that the car is not compatible with Apple CarPlay, a technology that's been around for years. Lack of integration makes everything clunky. Want your car to narrate incoming text messages for you? Don't buy a Pilot. Honda claiming it's a hardware issue and can't retrofit, even though Accords have it. Boggling. Dash is glitchy - sometimes auto-dims at night, other times I have to open settings and manually dim it. Stupid detail, but that huge display screen tells me almost nothing. Listening to a song on the radio and want to know what it is? It will display 8-10 characters only, leaving half the screen blank. This car was not designed to thrill a driver. Vexing, yes. I would recommend people spend more time looking at the Highlander.

I carefully compared test driving the Toyota Highlander and the new Pilot. Each has it's own merits, but the Honda won hands down. It is quieter, smoother and peppier than the Toyota. Price was much better too. Toyota was offering an end of the year Highlander for more than a better equipped 2016 Pilot. I was all set to buy a Highlander during the summer, but saw the new Pilot was just hitting the market. Super glad I waited. Handles great for an SUV. Has plenty of power and good mileage for a large vehicle. I like the nine speed transmission, smooth and silky. Ride is very quiet when absorbing uneven pavement and ruts and motoring down the highway. Love the layout and technology. Lots of storage and bins. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Mine actually makes a "choofing" sound when depressing accelerator. When taking foot off accelerator it seems to stay in lower gear and feels like you have the break on, like changing down a gear to slow down like it never got out of low gear. Display on dash does not show much info, I would like outside temp and music tracks playing. Pretty much blank screen unless adjusting settings. Update 3/2017: Still makes a choofing/spitting/clicking sound. Dealership says normal from transmission change/gearshift. A little annoying at times as sometimes it seems more than that. Sometimes, when at at a corner or in the middle of an intersection and you need to make a quick take off. There seems to be a flat spot in acceleration which, to me, could pose a danger. I have been in the position to have to pump the gas pedal. I dont think this is normal but dealer said it is normal. I have a hard time with Bluetooth sometimes. Doesn't connect and does connect sometimes. A little temperamental. When I get in car and it is working, music starts automatically, sometimes annoying. Traction is not very good, even in dry conditions. I have to be carefull of how much acceleration I give in order to not spin tyres. I guess display screen is useless unless you have upgraded version, i dont know. The LX I purchased was the only one in stock and I needed a car, so had no choice. For me it just shows volume control and settings control. I want to get accesories but they are so expensive.

Owner of a 2014 (and past 2004) Pilots...lease is coming up next year on the '14 so asked my sales manager bud if I could keep a '16 for a number of days. Long relationship and I've bought 7 other Acura's/Honda's from him - it does pay to stay loyal! In short, I'm not going to get one. Appearance - looks like a CRV on steroids or any of the other mid-SUV's out there. I've also shun Acura until they get over their "the gaudier the better" styling philosophy. Yes, it does drive and feels more solid on the road vs. the '14; however road noise, ever the Achilles Heel of anything this corporation produces, is still omnipresent. My '02 GMC pickup is still quieter! The interior gets a 10 for overall styling and material improvements, a 7 for an over-busy dash/electronics (Consumer Reports just hammered Honda for their e-systems), a 1 for making the driver area "tighter" in both height and width, and a -6 for removing the high-center console and replacing with those el-cheapo arm rests from their parts bin. So, overall I'm disappointed with their efforts here - and I note here are not many glowing reviews on this and other boards. My dealership buddy says reception has been lukewarm with a number of people saying it's more like an "Odyssey with a longer snout". Hopefully Honda will hear some of these words and make further refinements. They finally did revise the Civic following an outpouring of criticism. Happy New Year!

I have one of the first Pilots to hit the road and have already put 1600 miles on this vehicle. My family and I moved out of a 2013 and love our new Pilot. The positives: for this size "minivan" I average about 19 city and 22 highway (actual). This is way better than my old pilot and most SUV and minivans on the market. I would average about 13/15 city on my old pilot. The drive and ride are smooth and it is enjoyable to drive. I like cruising down the road , even in eco. I am happy they added the eco button. It is nice to cut it off if you want a little power behind the wheel. Car has a decent get up and go. A little sluggish depending on how many bodies are in the car. Once the car is moving it's nice and smooth and maintains its speed well. Like the interior materials and space in the 3rd row. Can definitely say it's nice not to have to use the 3rd row for space since it has room in the trunk area. Most cars in this class have no trunk space and quickly become a 2 row car. Cons: the arm rest in the front do look flimsy. They feel dine but I miss the big bulky one in the middle. I feel smaller in this Pilot. I guess I was used to my big box because I feel a bit dainty in my new one. Not really a complaint. I do not like the touch screen. It is a bit confusing and I miss the volume knob. For the finger prints, I use a 8 inch screen protector. Works like a charm and I reduce the finger smudge imensley. Finally , the USB outlet placement is a litrue strange. I'm not sure what Honda was thinking as far as functionality and usage. Overall, I love my pilot. I have had no issues. Very pleased with out quality purchase.

The Pilot looks great on paper and in pictures, but don't be fooled. The specs are good and it looks good in photos as most vehicles do however the reality is much different. While fuel economy and engine performance are good, those seem to be the only things that don't disappoint. But to get straight to the point, here are problems that I've noticed: 1. The infotainment is a really terrible system. It is underpowered, unrefined, unintuitive and cumbersome. It is really slow and unresponsive, probably because of outdated/cheap components used to power the system. Every tap lags, every single one. The interface is also very unintuitive, common features such as playlists, albums, genres are buried multiple menu layers deep. When you plug in your device, it defaults to playing your entire library of songs alphabetically. I get random error messages that cause the audio or navigation to close on a fairly regular basis of about once a week. An error message will just pop up and close the current app. 2. The navigation, probably in part to being underpowered, has been terrible so far. I've only used it a few times so far but each time is has incorrectly calibrated my location and it would take a few minutes of driving for it to properly recalibrate my location. I've driven and used many vehicles with navigation and this is honestly the first time it's ever happened, on each occasion. 3. The radio is complete junk. It sounds like listening to a 30 year old clock radio because the reception is so bad. Sound is constantly fading, crackling or has static. There has been speculation that this is something that has only impacted a few Pilots however I am convinced this is a design defect. The antennas on the Pilot are similar to the antennas on the iPhone 4 and consist of bands on the rear windows. What's worse is that despite this being an issue since the release of the 2016 Pilot, there has been no official response or acknowledgment from Honda yet. 4. Because the radio is so bad on the Pilot, most people such as myself will often listen to the music on my device. There is nothing wrong with the sound system itself, just the reception. However, since the infotainment system is so incredibly bad, even trying to listen to the music on my device is a major pain. 5. The footwell heat simply doesn't work well. It seems like a minor issue until you have consecutive single digit degree weather and realize only a very small portion of the area above your ankles are warm. The footwell area never completely warms, no matter how high you set the temperature or how high the fan is. Your lower legs will always be cold, or at least mine have. 6. For the trims below Touring with the 6 speed, the shifter is so poorly and terribly designed, it looks like it came out of a 1990 Corolla. Above all, my impression of the 2016 Pilot is that it was severely rushed and a lot of cost cutting was involved. There really is no excuse for the radio to have such horrible reception in this day and age. The infotainment system is clearly the result of cost cutting as its so terrible. The main benefit of the Pilot is the engine performance. I highly recommend anyone considering the Pilot to take it on an extended test drive and really pay close attention to the radio and tinker with the infotainment. Drive it back to back with any other vehicle and I'm certain most will recognize a clear difference in radio quality. However, if literally none of these things matter, than the Pilot may be a good choice, otherwise I would at least hold off until the 2017 models arrive before even considering one. Update: I’ve mostly grown accustomed to the faults of the pilot, but it does have its merits. Just about the two best things about the vehicle are the functionality and design of the interior space and the AWD system. Otherwise, the navigation continues to be a complete piece of trash that literally takes minutes to properly calibrate itself everytime you turn on the car. *update* 3/8/19 So my original review still stands, a lot of things that just feel half baked and poorly implemented. I have not had any issues with the reliability of the car and the AWD system is probably one of the better systems out there. Although I still take issue with the complete junk navigation system and the heating/cooling is also not very good. I’ve gotten used to the crappiness of the radio I guess and don’t expect Honda to do the right thing and provide some kind of fix for it. Overall, would I buy this vehicle again? Probably not.

Worst car I've ever owned

I drove around a CRV and loved it which was why I didn't spend much time researching when I traded in my 2015 GMC Crew Cab for the 2016 Pilot (I put a ton of miles on my vehicles so I trade them in before I hit 30k) I miss that truck dearly loved loved it!!! ... Anyway the first major problem I can't handle is the blue tooth ... It is terrible!!! I can't hold a conversation with anyone because they can't hear me and vise versa. According to them there is a ton of background noise I either have to pull over or take them off Bluetooth. 2nd the stereo is sub standard. My 2013 Kia Sportage was superior to this stereo system and that car was half this price. 3rd) the touch screen is VERY sensitive and I'm always pressing too close to another option and it goes to something else (hard to explain) but I NEVER had any problem with my GMc touch screen. It also just seems too busy oh and fingerprints are a terrible issue!! In the gleam of the light sometimes I can't even see behind them (and I clean it all the time.. Because I have to 😉) Also, the third row isn't easy to put down and up. The system seems antiquated and cumbersome. THIS VEHICLE IS VERY SLOW. Even when I take the Econ option off its very slow. It drives like a van and you sit like your in a van (I've driven a Nissan Quest and it was more 'fun' than driving this) so if you have back problems I advise you truly test it out for awhile. If I drive it for over an hour my psyatic nerve starts to bother me. I'm 5'7" and weigh 135. also, it's not as quiet of a ride as I expected. My truck was quieter and so was my Kia. Honestly the only thing about it that's a plus is the gas mileage. I average 22.4mpg. But that's the only plus and over everything else I would pay the gas difference in a heart beat to drive an expedition again. (I've driven them too) I hope this helps, everyone is different but I've heard that there have been a lot of bad reviews of this vehicle and I'm sure Honda will iron them out for the next years model or at least I hope so!! I will be trading this one in asap and its to the point I don't care how much money I loose in doing so. 😢 I also advise against the grey leather... My jeans stain it and I'm having to clean the leather every weak Bc it shows wear very quickly.

As the owner of both a high-end European sports car, and a Comfortable full sized SUV, I didn't even want to look at the Honda Pilot. I was looking at Range Rovers, BMWs, Mercedes, Toyotas, and a host of other vehicles that I thought would be more to my liking. I nearly barfed when I saw Honda's advertising for this vehicle, which was such a turnoff it took me an extra week to drag myself down to the Honda dealership. I'm not a middle aged formerly cool guy who's trying to recapture my youth and now realizing I have to capitulate to living vicariously though my children in order to realize the dreams I used to have before the perils of marriage, parenthood and middle age robbed them from me Honda. That's basically just offensive. After I got over the advertising, I did manage to test drive this car. And it's actually a really good ride. It's got a fairly good technology package (though nobody is doing it like Tesla, and Honda needs to be more aggressive in pushing OTA updates and whatnot), incredibly comfortable seats, and everything just makes sense. I've been in every other vehicle in it's class, and it's the best one by a mile, plus it's really quiet. I did NOT like the 2wd version the pilot, because it has significant body flex and actually wasn't that hard to squeal the tires coming out of parking lots (minivan style). Things are thought out, just work, etc. The only weirdness is the audio inputs being such a focus on the entertainment package and inexplicable lack of volume knob (seriously, did you hire Apple engineers because that idea was just terrible). Fortunately, the steering wheel controls are an adequate alternative for the driver, though the car lacks a mute button (it's buried under the touchscreen volume, which means to mute you have to do multiple actions while driving - basically just fail on Honda's UX for the feature). Seeing as that is my only major complaint about the car, I have to admit that we're pretty satisfied. We also installed a tow hitch, and 5000 pounds is pretty good. Not too happy that we had to spend another 1300+ to get it installed however, because it's not standard. If you're looking for a family hauler that'll keep it's value, it's a good ride. The only downside is the fuel economy, which is pretty awful for a car of it's size, but standard for the class. It's GREAT on the highway (25+), but in day-to-day driving it's pretty awful. For perspective our Chevy Tahoe gets 2-3+ mpg better.

Little things bother me about this vehicle. The GPS does not work well, gets confused, then shuts down. Wind noise is worse than it was in our 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2015 Pilot. Road sound is better. Push button gear shift is a pain, slow to respond and will make you scream...guaranteed...if you hane to maneuver in tight places. You must take your foot off the accelerator to set the cruise control (so if you are going 70 and want to set the cruise on 70, you have to spped up to about 78, take your foot off the accelerator, push the set button, and then hope that it engages at about 70. Sheer craziness. And once the cruise is on be very careful not to try to spped up a little as if you touch the accelerator, you will disengage the cruise. The second time I took my Pilot in to the dealer for the idle stop not working, I was given a three page list of 42 parameters as to why it may not be working. 43 These include things like "If the front window defogger is on, the idle stop will not work. If the speed of one of the four tires is different (?) the idle stop will not function, etc." Why have it? Why it is important to me is that I went a model up for about 4 to 5 grand more for the better gas mileage. Since the idle stop is mostly responsible for this, I wasted my money if it does not work....and it does not. Overall a great looking vehicle, comfortable, rides well unless on a deeply rutted road, lots of storage, but way too many things that are not refined, do not work, work only part time, or work, but not all of the time. A little better thought and engineering tweaks could easily resolve these issues. That things are as they are is a big disappointment. After years of other brands building quiet vehicles, why can't Honda get it done? I am losing confidence in the brand. UPDATE: When the dealer could not correct the problems mentioned above, they suggested I contact Honda to see if they had a solution. I contacted Honda and they told me that "We know the idle stop does not work, but because all of the parameters show that it should work, there is nothing we can do. (i.e. we know it does not work but because it should work, we can do nothing. ??) and the navigation issues, which proved dangerous several times in large cities, their response was that: "We have updated the navigation five times so it should work." This was my 37th and last Honda, Sold it the day after I got this "screw you" response, bought a Toyota Highlander - and everything works, every time.

Like many reviewer, I have also researched heavily on-line and test drove many SUVS such as MDX, Infinity, Highlander, BMW X5, Mercedes GLE, Volvo, and after considering the value, performance, 3rd row seating, appearance, convenience, cost of own, and more I decided on the 2016 Pilot Elite. PRO: - Great new look. I hated they way previous pilot looked. - Roomy 3rd row seating. New Pilot actually can accommodate adults on the 3rd row and enough to carry some cargo. - New 8" touch screen with Gamin Navi works well. - Blue Interior lights and ventilation seats - Built-in remote engine start (I use it all the time) - Updated Technology with functional display in the instrument panel - Comfort (remember, this SUV is built for suburban family life style) CONS: - No power folding mirror. Why ? My 2007 sienna has it which cost $10K less than this SUV - Transmission. As other reviewers mentioned, it does shift up sometime on a downhill where the transmission thinks the car is accelerating even if I have my foot on the break slightly. However, it does not happen all the time but happens only at particular speed like 30mph. I live in NJ and there are plenty of hills and it does not happen enough to bother me. - Audio power button. The touch screen is located at the top of the dashboard and audio button is also located in the touch screen. When the car is moving, it is difficult to press the audio button with accuracy since my arm must be in the air. This causes me to either hitting the audio power button twice or miss it entirely. - Touch screen is finger print magnet. - There's no exterior light illuminates when unlock the door as you approaching the car middle of the night. Door handle or lights under the side view mirror would have looked good and helpful ! Update. After owning the for 9months I have no major complaints. The software upgrade was done and it fixed all glitches. I recently got to drive the new Toyota Highlander and noticed how much it was softer in suspension compared to my pilot. But the new technology and few features in my pilot blew away highlander by far. Glad I purchased the Pilot. Update. At almost 14,000 miles, running great without any issue. There are now some new SUVs in the market which wasn't there at the time of my purchase but it is still great car to own if you planning to keep it for a long time. Update : 23,000mi. Runs great and zero issues. Navigation is now prompting to update the map and I took it to the dealer. They wanted to charge me for upgrading. I’ve received email from Honda that I can upgrade on my own by following instruction so I will do it on my own instead. Everything else is great. Now, there are more alternative options besides the pilot that fits my need. Mazda CX-9 looks great and priced slightly better than pilot at top of the line. Update @ 52,000 mi and 5 yrs later Runs great and no issues. The stock tires now need to placed and I’m surprised that the tread lasted this long on stock tires. It’s been a great purchase and I plan to keep it for another 5 years!!

I can't seem to get anywhere with customer care so I am going to share my story in hopes of saving others from my misfortune with the newly designed Honda pilot. I bought a 2016 Honda pilot last February. Last week, my air conditioning began to blow warm air. I took it to a Honda dealership for a diagnostic assessment assuming that whatever was wrong would surely be covered under warranty with a car that is barely a year old. I get a call stating that they aren't really sure and it may have been that a rock hit my condenser and that is not covered. The dealership stated that they see this all the time and it is in "a vulnerable place at the front of the car." I have hit absolutely nothing and have never even heard of such a possibility happening on any other car I have owned. The fix is $1200 on a basically BRAND NEW CAR. Please others be aware of this design flaw in the new Pilot and purchase something else. This is the first and last Honda I will ever own as I have been let down and feel as if I have been swindled by the company. The employee said that the condenser does have a screen which meant the pebble must have been tiny. So, apparently the tiniest of pebbles can take out an entire air conditioner in a Honda.

Love the Pilot. Plenty of power, especially when you take the economy setting off. Looks great. Drives well; smooth, comfortable, not a lot of road noise. Had some minor electronic issues, thankfully before the warranty ran out. One of the Homelink buttons was not working and the volume + button on the dashboard worked sometimes, sometimes not. We don't listen to really loud music but I have to say the rear speakers are an absolute joke. When there are people in the backseat, you have to turn the volume up very loud or they cannot hear the music but then the people in the front seats can't hear themselves think. I can't believe a $40 thousand dollar vehicle could have that crappy of a sound system. I would be embarrassed if I was Honda. The blue tooth system is poor. Cuts in and out sporadically. Also very disappointing. Other than that, the Pilot is a great vehicle and my wife absolutely loves it. Update:. Catalytic converter issues. Would have been a $1,600 repair but Honda extended the warranty through a bulletin so it was covered. This happened at 66,000 miles.

Best car I have ever owned

Purchased a 2016 Pilot Touring AWD new. Very expensive! But worth it. We have a number of kids and have thoroughly enjoyed this SUV. It sits up pretty high, much higher than a minivan (which we have also owned) but drives fairly smoothly and easily. It has a lot of power but isn't except nimble. The comfort and minimal road noise are its best qualities. I have read a number of reviews that complain about the nine speed transmission, but we have found it to work just fine and shift smoothly. The seats are supportive and the interior materials are high quality. The only drawback is that the space behind the rear sets is small, at least compared to a minivan. The headlights look great (especially the daytime running LEDs) and the body style is attractive but not overbearing. I average 25 mph in about 40% city driving and 60% highway driving, which is excellent for this large of a vehicle. It handles in snow like a dream! We live on a hill and have had several days where we probably would not have made it home without the pilot AWD. The rim package on the Touring looks sweet. Love this car!

2016 Honda Pilot LX 4dr SUV (3.5L 6cyl 6A)

I really like my Pilot LX 2wd so far. Great interior, good acceleration. This SUV drives like a car. Got this car because of the 3rd row. The back row will fit two adults under 6'0 comfortably or 3 kids under the age of 12. Be aware that if you are transporting more than 2 car seats in the middle row access to the 3rd row is practically impossible. This car is perfect for the family of 5 or less that still wishes to add a couple of adults on board (i.e. grandma and grandpa) on weekend trips. The only problem I've had so far is with the phone voice recognition system. It absolutely doesn't work. The system will not recognize voice prompts to make out going calls. I have been using aux port and Hey Siri to make calls through the car speaker system instead. As for MPG, this car is awesome on the clear highway but stinks in the heavy rush hour traffic of Los Angeles (405 and 10 freeways) Traffic free trips will get 22-25 mpg. Traffic jams will burn 14-17 mpg. I average 18.75 mpg calculated by hand - per tank. Oh well, I guess that's the price of owning a bigger car. Not bad but was hoping for 22 mpg. The base LX model gave me many standard features I wanted but I do wish I had the EX features of auto unlock doors and Siri voice command. Other than that most other features were overkill for my taste. Coming from a 2007 Toyota Rav 4 SUV I'd say Honda did a good job in making a versatile family hauler. If they fix the tech problems I don't see how this car can't be a winner among families that want the opportunity to open the door for an extra friend or family member to tag along on the next outing. Update June 20, 2018 Car is running well. MPG avg is 17.5, about the same as when first purchased. The LCD/voice recognition contuinues to have malfunctions from time to time. Overall still satisfied.

I bought my 2016 Pilot EX-L AWD on 9/2016. I have already taken it on a small road trip and every time I drive it, I fall in love again. It's been great in the short time I've had it and hoping it will last a lifetime. Sometimes the Bluetooth goes out but I just reset it. Technology, go figure. But the drive, the comfort and the space is really wonderful! I traded my Murano for it and while I thought I would have that car forever I am really happy I traded it in for the Pilot. I do wish the panoramic roof was available on the lower trims but still happy with at least having a sun roof. Great SUV!

Junk junk, junk just changing the radio station is dangerous. The engine knocks when I turn corners. My rear window will not go down. When I put the car in park it slides several feet forward or back. I have to use the emergency brake every time I park even on flat roads. The gear fobs on the steering wheel are a mystery to me. I could be on a freeway going 75 and accidentally hit one of those and my car downshifts into D6. Very dangerous. I can't seem to shift back unless i look down and desperatly get it back into drive. I do not know how to bypass that feature even looking at my owners manual. My car is always dinging. Why? I can't get that to stop. My drive button is no longer readable the plastic has worn off. My exceleration is a total joke. I have to put the gas pedal to the metal just to get it to go. The windows fog up instantly making it hard to see. I need to blast the defroster or pull over till I can see. I used to have the old pilot and I wish I would have kept it. I am sure there is more that I have problems with. We are looking to a another car company to trade in this piece of crap. Actually running. Over priced and worthless. On another note, I have mentioned these to the dealership and they just say that it is user error and they have had no complaints.

interior very cheep Have owned several Hondas For the most part very pleased in the quality and durability. Purchased the Pilot expecting quality . The dash is completely touch. I find this confusing to use. I drove the pilot 3546 miles and traded in. I also purchased a CRV and love it. I have owned Honda RT5000 tractor , 50 HP out board , Quad, lawn mower, power washer. I am no stranger to Honda products.

Still mad that Honda was unresponsive. All Pilots come without a CD player – something that sales people should point out! It costs about $280 to have Honda add one. I had Honda add one. I drive a lot and listen to books on CD while I drive. It is important to me that the car remember where the CD left off when I turn off the car. That way it will continue the story when I start driving again. About 10-20% of the time the car forgets where it was and starts the CD from the beginning. I've owned 4 Toyotas, A Mitsubishi, and a Subaru and this has never happened with any of them. Otherwise, the infotainment system is a mess. It is not at all intuitive. It is difficult or impossible to operate with gloves on (I live in northern NY and it is cold in the winter). The voice commands are finicky. It forgot all the speed dial numbers that I manually entered! The infotainment display occasionally gets stuck - an obvious software bug. As for the rest of the car, it downshifts too far when accelerating quickly. I pull a boat and admittedly, the car is good at that. The driver's seat is comfortable but the driver's seat arm rest tilts down at an odd angle and is next to worthless. The battery is inaccessible - I cannot use the car to jump start my tractor! In short, this could be a good car but it is plagued with a series of small but annoying design flaws and software bugs. Honda has been unresponsive to my complaints about the CD player.

Stay away, I regret spending my hard earned money on this junk, the 9 speed gear box is dangerous, it shifts randomly jerking everyone around and speeds up on down hills. Acura has lost a lot of respect because of this 9 speed so WHY Honda do you put this in the new pilot???? Consumers Report has info on this issues saying to be careful or you'll be sorry. I trusted the Honda name so didn't do my homework before buying. I have 7,000 miles and waiting for the new Highlander, it has the Lexus 8 speed that is smooth as silk, yes I'll take a beating but am forced to make the change, I wont drive it, nor will my Wife drive it. STAY AWAY

I care for my two grandsons every day so I need a big, reliable car. This does more than what I need and I am thrilled with it. That said, I was VERY disappointed that it does not come with power folding side mirrors! The manual implies that it does, as does the icon on the mirror adjustment button. Since I have a three bay garage, I only have about 2" of clearance on each side! I really was (am) bummed about this. I manually fold in the left mirror when I pull in to give myself a few more inches. (Yes, I think Honda should remedy this.) The styling is awesome and the interior is designed beautifully. It has great acceleration, braking and handling. I went from a BMW 3 series to this car so I care about quality and handling. It is classy looking and I think I will have this car for a long, long time.
