Used 2019 Honda Odyssey Elite 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 10A) Consumer Reviews
Electrical problems
We purchased the Elite trim. We have had the car for 10 months now and the entire audio/video system shut off. Apparently Honda has had multiple complaints about this. I would stay away until they can figure this out. I’m thinking if you get the base trim it should be fine but there is too much technology in the Elite and everything stopped. Rear view camera is not working also, no Bluetooth, no Apple car play, rear entertainment shut down (my kids are pissed as am I). I’m scheduled for service tomorrow morning. I will provide an update.

Excellent, except......
I've read the reviews, including Edmunds. Sounds like a few folks got lemons, others, poor dealerships. First, my response to Edmunds review. We purchased the Elite. The seats are very comfortable, especially the ventilation feature for here in Florida. But The road noise is terrible. It sounds so loud that it's hard to carry on a conversation, or listen to the superb sound system. With only 1100 miles, I fault the tires, Bridgestone Turanza. The noise was terrible initially. I recalled that some dealers overinflated tires to prevent flat spots. I checked; my tires were 46 PSI.! Despite the checklist showing that was cleared. Lowering the pressure to 33 PSI reduced the noise considerably but a significant amount remains. One ding. The navigation is not useful. Street names are not shown, nor is current traffic related to the location of the vehicle. 2 dings. The automatic engine shut off is annoying and has to be disabled each ride. A few reviews mention the rear seat is difficult to remove. I agree it is well made (heavy) but this is my second Odyssey and there's a short learning curve. The interior is enormous. With one rear seat removed our Great Pyrenees easily gets in and out. A few notes: Headlights are excellent. Side vehicle alerts are very noticeable. Handling is far superior to our 2010 Odyssey, and braking is greatly improved. I recommend driving the vehicle after a purchase and ignoring the tech gadgets. Familiarize yourself with basic operation then play with the other stuff cause they can be as distracting as texting. I'll update the review as miles accumulate.

Much improved switching from a Sienna
We recently purchased a 2019 Odyssey after owning a 2015 Toyota Sienna XLE since new. We honestly thought we would keep the Toyota a few years longer but the most recent crash test rating along with rear crash test video shows the Sienna shows up major flaws in the safety department due to being built on a platform that is coming up 10 years old. Since our van is the primary transporter for school and family outing, we decided to move up the purchase timeline. The overall purchasing process was a breeze with us getting a pretty solid deal. The driving dynamic is very smooth and the ride is extremely quiet compared to the Sienna. I tested all 7 seats prior to purchase (I am 6'3") and was they are comfortable and offers better support than the Sienna. Overall, the Odyssey offers major upgrades compared to even the current Sienna model and if safety is a priority, Sienna is automatically disqualified due to poor scoring by IIHS. 2021 update: van still going strong! Still love the power, handling and everything it has to offer. We were rear ended by a distracted driver last yr at 45mph and the impact never intruded into the main cabin where our kids were. Everyone walked away and they fixed it back to OEM spec. This van will be with us for awhile since nothing on the market compares.

Wonderful Minivan
As of July 6, I will have owned my 2019 Honda Odyssey Elite for one year. To date, I have had one problem. The battery needed to be replaced. The dealership took the time to fully diagnosis the problem to make sure it wasn’t more than just the battery. In addition, there have been two recalls which the dealership handled. That’s it. I have no complaints. It has a very quiet, comfortable ride. The lack of power rear folding seat is noted as a “Con”. Having previously owned a 2006 Toyota Sienna Limited with a power folding third row seats, I can tell you I don’t miss it at all. The power folding seats in the Sienna were slow and after a few years quit working, which of course happened after the warranty had expired. The third row seats in the Honda are extremely easy to stow as well as put upright, either being done using only one hand. The second row seats are kind of a “love it or hate it” experience. It really boils down to what you are looking for. If it’s removal, these seats are heavy and difficult to remove. Best go with Chrysler and “Stow ’n Go” which are much thinner, less comfortable, and fold into the floor. If you are looking for comfort and the flexibility of being able to slide the seats sideways, which makes ingress and egress to and from the third row much easier, the Honda is your choice. I am also impressed with the MPG. On long trips at freeway speeds (70-75 mph), I get around 26-29 MPG. Around town, it’s 17-19 MPG. Best of all, my grandchildren love it.
Fireworks/Software problems
I have been a honda fan for a long time. Owned accord, civic, odysseys in the past. This is my 3rd minivan and luckily I leased it. Mine is Elite model. Since we got this, we have not been able to use DVD player. Some module was replaced by the dealer; started working, then broke again. Very often (97% of the time), i would hear fireworks going off in the speakers which can be very annoying and make it hard to drive the van. Only to fix this is muting the whole volume off. Then display monitor randomly would go dead and stays dead until vehicle is restarted. I was told by the dealer that they are seeing lot of similar issues with 2018/2019 models. Vehicle drives good. Have been to the dealer 4 times so far. They are clueless; only thing they can tell me is Honda is aware of these problems and are working to fix it. I would stay away from Honda vehicles until they figure out these issues. Hope this helps. Update: the dealer fixed the problem and I was told it was some loose connection. But they problem came back again. I was told it was a harness problem and there is no fix for 2019 but fixed in 2020 odyssey. I ended up returning 2019 and leasing 2020 - a leap of faith I guess. Lost some $2000 that I had to pay for the new lease. Update: 2020 odyssey is doing ok so far. No issues.
