2019 Honda Odyssey = Persistent Problems

We purchased our 2019 Honda Odyssey in Nov 2018 and while traveling over the holidays was involved in "body damage only" accident (hit a deer). The repair company fixed the body. Case closed. A couple weeks later we noticed a whirling noise coming from the engine at idle. We submitted to AutoNation Honda of Lewisville. They replaced drive belt and tensioner and returned vehicle around 2 weeks later. The whirling sound persisted and the vehicle was returned to AutoNation on March 1st. This time AutoNation began with simple repairs and escalated the complexity to remove the sound. This included replacing timing belt, idler pulley, crankshaft pulley, oil pump, and eventually the engine block. The car was returned to over one month later. During this time we spoke several times with AutoNation for updates and was told that they weren't sure what was wrong but would continue to replace parts until it was fixed. Given that this is a 2019 Odyssey, both the ambiguity of the problem and the associated repairs were frustrating along with the fact that we'd been without our van for over 6 weeks since purchasing the van the middle of Nov 2018. We convinced the dealership to provide a temporary rental vehicle but throughout the process, they insinuated that the noise could be caused by the accident. We encouraged the company who performed the body repair to correspond with the dealership (and vice versa) to discern the cause of the noise. The initial repair company sent pictures to Honda to substantiate their belief that the noise was not associated with the body-damage only accident. During this time we also contacted Honda Corporate and spoke with Kenisha at Honda Customer Service. After leaving unreturned messages for 4 days with Kenisha she finally called me back (she said she was at funeral) after I called Honda corporate asking for a new rep. Kenisha was not empathic and emphatically stated that she saw NO work orders in her system on our van and that all repairs would be charged to our insurance. We called our insurance and they confirmed that Honda had not requested authorization to perform any repairs nor had submitted invoices for the work being done. We then approached the dealership again at which point they assumed responsibility for the noise and repairs and said work orders wouldn't be seen by corporate until the work was completed. We immediately called Kenisha back and shared the information to which she never replied except to leave a vm asking if we'd received our vehicle back. We received our van back over a month after it's second repair visit (6+ weeks total). We've now submitted a claim with the National Center for Dispute Settlement regarding the TX Lemon Law. During this process another "more senior" customer service represetative called us and asked if the original problem was gone. I answered yes but told her that we've begun hearing a clacking sound on cold start ups and would be taking the van in again for repairs. We when saw Honda's report to National Center for Dispute Settlement they stated that the customer said the problem is gone, but made no mention of the new problem arising. Convenient for Honda's rep to leave that info out of their report. My wife and I have 6 kids and have been faithful Honda owners for years. We purchased this new van instead of used to provide us with reliable transportation. Given the number and depth of the repairs completed to date, my wife no longer has faith in our "new" van. It's fundamentally a different van and now has an extensive repair history that taints the overall value. We are extremely frustrated and warn potential buyers. Years ago I feel like Honda would have done "something" in good faith, but all they do today is defend their position and lawyer up. What happened to you Honda?! We miss the old version of your company....

Much better than the Sienna!

We owned a 2013 Sienna for 5 years and couldn't take it any longer...lots of "little" interior issues with the Sienna, mostly involving the rear tracks coming out of the floor. The Odyssey is much better on the inside...and everywhere else! You get a lot more options for the money with the LE and it drives a million times smoother than the Sienna ever did! Only complaint - less storage up front compared to the Sienna.

So my minivan aka the mommy missile is exactly what I expected! Convenient!!! The gas mileage is average and the road noise is more prevelant than anticipated but otherwise I love this vehicle.

Very Noisy A/C fan

I bough my 2019 Odyssey in June 2018 and it has about 7K miles on it. when I turn on the A/C the fan makes loud noise which can be heard inside the cabin as well. I compared with other 2 identical minivans and their noise was less than mine. Then I showed it to Honda dealer and they said its normal. Don't know what to do, but I am not happy with it. It feels like I am driving a truck (noise wise). I am also disappointed with Entertainment options. By combining Rear Entertainment and Navigation, Honda has cut down on the option for buyers to enjoy music the conventional way.

Honda Lost it

I have a 2005 Odyessy. It has been so good I bought another one without even a test drive. Sorry to say I should have looked at a Sienna too. I have had this now for 6 months and I can tell you the irritations I have come across. Probably not just Honda but having an ipad type control over the HVAC controls is crazy. When your driving you need a fan knob and control for where the air is going to come from. In the past you could do this without taking your eyes off the road. Now your looking at a screen and going thru menus. Having shifting paddles on a family minivan is nuts. My wife hits them by accident and then the car stops shifting and she wonders why it is making so much noise!!! The dashboard layout and SMALL fonts is a real annoyance. I don't have 20/20 vision and I can not read the temperature it is so small. The first cold day the tire pressure warning came on and you have to go thru a menu to see if it is almost flat or just a couple of pounds low. I have never been a Chevy fan but I have an Equinox work car and I have to say it has a much better layout. Large fonts for trip odometer and temperature. When a tire goes low it shows you all the tire pressures. A REAL annoyance is the rear tailgate does not go up nearly as far as the old 2005. We keep hitting our heads on it and we are under 6 ft. Who is engineering this stuff? Something everyone is going to have to deal with is the feel of the electronic steering and gas pedal. Now that you are not directly connected linked the feel is different and takes some getting used to. The gas pedal is like stepping on a sponge. You will miss the old days. Most people no longer do their own oil changes but they seem to be trying to engineer you out of doing it yourself. The oil filter on the 2005 was easy to get to even though the oil would run down it when you unscrewed it. Now they have put the filter in such a hard place with an beam directly below it so it is almost impossible to put a wrench on it to remove it. On our Honda when we brought it home there was a clunking noise when we hit filled in potholes or manhole covers. Turns out they have to replace the front shock. They made it sound like we hit a big pothole and damaged it, but it was that way when we bought it. After the front shock was replaced my wife said she heard a clunking in the rear. When I drove it, it sounded like the rear shock was loose. Sure enough they had to replace the rear shock too! How weird is that for a new car. They include a mini center seat so you have 8 seats. That is probably worth $200 and now I have to store it in the garage. Instead of shifter paddles and the extra seat it would have been nice to have included a power rear hatch or a CD player. That would be something we would actually use! These are real annoyances that have come to really annoy us. If Honda really cared they would include a feedback email address where you could provide them with comments on what they are making.
