Perfect Family Vehicle

We bought our 2012 Odyssey, which was 3yrs old with 30k miles, in Spring 2015. That means as of this writing, we've had it for 4.5 years and put on about 50k miles. I came here to tell everyone reading this and anyone researching Odysseys that it's not only an amazing family minivan, but quite possibly the best vehicle we've ever owned - and that's coming from a crazy car guy who can't keep a car longer than 3 years. What we've owned include: Accord, Camry, WRX, Legacy, Tribeca, Prius, TSX and TLX. Our Odyssey has stood the test of time, already outlasting 3 of those other vehicles. We have no reason to even shop for another family vehicle anytime soon. What's great: -Our Odyssey Touring is built like a premium vehicle. It might as well have an Acura badge. It has been 100% reliable (only one heater seat TSB fix), is powerful, smooth, comfortable and quiet, and has leather and almost every gadget and gizmo imaginable. -Power sliding doors made it easy for us to load our kids into the van as babies in travel system carriers, then allowed them to climb in as toddlers so we could buckle them, and now our kids climb in and buckle themselves. Plus we never had to worry about smashing doors into cars or garage walls. -Power tailgate has been used thousands, maybe tens of thousands of times, allowing us to load groceries, furniture, sports equipment, you name it. The back row typically stays up leaving the deep well available for us to fill. -It has enough space to haul family, friends, luggage, equipment, furniture... almost anything in your home... sometimes all at the same time. -It towed our popup camper for years like it wasn't even behind us and now tows our small travel trailer like a champ. What's not great: -VCM. I forget our Odyssey had VCM because I disabled it long ago with VCMuzzler. This invaluable device stopped all the goofy engine vibrations and instilled confidence in our van not having oil seepage, plug fouling and misfire issues. You should be aware of the engine misfire lawsuit if shopping for a Honda years 2008 through 2016 or so. -Lack of AWD. Honestly, this is the only thing preventing this minivan from being the world's most perfect vehicle, in my opinion. But I'll still take it with FWD. It has been and continues to be a remarkably awesome minivan to us, whether knocking around town or driving us across the country to a vacation.

I decided to wait till I had at least 2000 miles on my 2012 Odyssey EX-L before writing a review on it. I test-drove the Honda, Toyota, and Nissan minivans. What I traded in was a 2008 Odyssey EX-L. Here are the Pros and Cons of my new one compared to my old one: Pros…… 1) More comfortable seats. The lower cushions tilt more than the other brands, plus a darker fabric (truffles, a darker grey) is available, which won’t show the dirt as much. 2) Cabin is 2” wider, and the extra room is very helpful when carrying adult passengers. 2nd row holds 3 adults very comfortably. 3) Engine is very smooth and all but silent. 4) Like the trip computer, where gas mileage can be computed for each trip. 5) Like the large, easy-to-read, digital display of the TIME on the monitor screen. 6) Like the standard equipment Bluetooth capability. (NOT on my 2008) 7) Like the ability to load in numerous CD’s into hard drive of the sound system. Saves having to insert and eject CD’s countless times. 8) Minimal vibration in the powertrain. 9) Like the standard power liftgate. (NOT on my 2008) 10) Gas mileage averages 20 mpg in the city and at least 27 on trips. 11) Love the speed-compensated volume control on the sound system. I haven’t had this since my 1998 Chevy Venture LS. 12) Lower suspension noise going over rough pavement. (although sharp bumps come through loud and clear. 13) It tracks well on the Interstates with minimal steering corrections. Cons…… 1) Noticeable wind noise heard around the windshield pillar on the driver’s side at highway speeds on windy days, though it’s not intrusive. Dealer hinted that windshield might have to be re-installed, but they didn’t want to do that. 2) Wind whistle heard on top of driver’s side window at speeds as low as 30 mph, but dealer was able to fix it. 3) Grating sounds heard in rear of cabin when going over uneven road surfaces at slow speeds. (could be the sliding doors. My ’08 Ody made the same noise after 3 years) 4) Miss the storage area under floor, in front of the 2nd row seat. (it’s now mostly taken up by the spare tire)

Great comfort and feature sets for a family on the go

This is a review after owning the car for 3 wk and 900 miles of driving. The V6 is extremely smooth—when it idles, there is no sound or any sense of vibration, and when pushed, it gives off a nice sporty exhaust note. The engine could use a bit more low end torque but has enough power for passing with a full load. The seating are very comfortable, even after a 300 mile trip. The versatile interior is wonderful to accommodating the need of a family on the go — we have two toddlers in car seats. The fit and finish is very good if you are not too picky. But taking a close look, it is hard to ignore the use of cheap materials in some areas to save cost. I have no QC problems at the moment

This is my second Odyssey my first was 2010 this one 2012. They both seem to have similar problems with the quality of the front end. I have had the 2012 for 2 yrs now and these are my thoughts. Before I go on let me say that I'm very familiar with how a car works mechanically. With 22,000 miles the van is in the shop for the following problems. Noise in left front, worse in the winter, grinding noise from engine, worse a low idle and strong vibration when applying brakes, worse when on highway. Just received call from service manager and here is the list of things that need to be replaced. Stabilizer links and bushings, Power steering pump, Front brakes and rotors and the two front tires.

So, we're at 3k mi. and I LOVE our van!! OVERALL, compared to 2012 Sienna: it looks WAY better, is safer, gets better gas mileage, and has MANY more features standard. My husband ENJOYS driving it (as do I). I think it drives beautifully - not at all like my step-father's minivan. Its controls are reachable (love the steering wheel controls), and the electronics are rather intuitive, I think! That said, it has its design flaws and neither van is worth 35k; so, the value factor just isn't there. Nevertheless, it's the best on the market for the money and we bought it and are VERY happy overall :)

Honda spent a lot of time redesigning this minivan but skimped on the quality. There should be a class action lawsuit over brake warpage and suspension noise. Honda is charging consumers to routinely fix a design defect. If rotors warp at 12-15k miles regardless of driving style then you have a design flaw. Everyone we know who owns this van has warped rotors. So much of this van is well designed but they didn't car about the most important safety system.

I just recently traded in my 2003 Odyssey for a 2012. If you are considering the Odyssey, I would strongly suggest looking at the Toyota Sienna over the Honda Odyssey! At first we loved the van, but it is very apparent that Honda has compromised it's quality. Within a week of taking delivery of the vehicle it was apparent that the quality of the plastic of the interior trim was poor. We have scuffs and markings from the seat belt retracting. Honda's response is, "sorry that's cosmetic and not covered under warranty". We are also having a recurring loud noise coming from the front end. In all, Honda's quality is no longer what it used to be. There are better options for $40,000!!!!!

I have been singing the praises of Honda for years and this is the 3rd that we've owned. Just got the 2012, and although they've added some great new features, I'm rather disappointed with some of the redesign. They took away a bunch of useful storage, which kept me neatly organized w/ my brew of kids & friends. their marketing materials now advertise how great it is to fit a piece of plywood in the back with the seats folded. That's great, but it no longer neatly fits my compact single stroller in the back with the seats up like the old model did. Seems like they forgot that many people purchasing minivans have kids, use storage, and push strollers, more often than hauling wood.

I replaced a 2002 Odyssey EX-L RES with this 2012 EX-L w/ Nav. So far very pleased with the way the vehicle drives and it is rich in features. Feels solidly built but based on my experience with older one bought 5 year maintenance and 8y/120 mi warranty. Very spacious interior, nice external styling especially when you look at it from the back. Was considering Turing Elite but didn't feel the price difference justified the additional features for my lifestyle. Mileage is around 18.5 city/hw, but it has been less than a week so I will give it time.

Battery drain issue

We really like our 12 Odyssey, and if it weren't for the annoying battery drain problem we've had since we bought the van new, we would have rated it a lot higher. The dealership admitted to me there was a design problem, and I should lock my van when parked in garage, or to make sure the dome lights were switched to Off instead of on Door as this somehow deactivates a circuit that remains energized. It still doesn't seem to help as the battery has been weakened enough after being killed a dozen times, so now if I know I won't be driving it for several weeks, I hook up my battery charger.

Engine missfiring problem

First a rocker oil sensor caused the engine to hesitate and misfire July 2013. Then Feb 2014 engine misfiring. Barely made it to dealer. Three spark plugs replaced and software update. July 2014 again misfiring, barely running. Made it to the dealer. Three pistons had rings replaced. This is all covered on warranty from a class action settlement I received in the mail. It appears to me that reliability has gone downhill. The van has 53,000 miles on it.

After comparing to Sienna we desided to go with the Odyssey. Van looked great but we noticed excessive vibration from day 1. Contacted dealer and they said it will smooth out once broken in. This didn't happen and after many visits back to the dealer to balance tires, update computer etc etc the issue is still there and since they can't solve it we're now being told this vibration is normal. Also the paint on the plastic parts doesn;t match the rest of the car - also normal according to Honda. Road noice was a little more than I expected as well

Bought new. About 10k miles both front shock strouts came loose. (noticed a clicking noise during slow sharp turns). One strout replaced and the other only tightened. Covered under warranty, but in the shop for a week. 36,036 miles power steering pump went out. (Noticed excessive whining noise . Dealer refused to cover since the 36000 mile warranty expired. Lucky we had a 3rd party 100k mile warranty (deductable was $100). Finally 39k miles and after an 800 mile road trip. The traction control light and check engine light came on. Take it to the dealer and they find the piston rings wore out prematurely. Covered under the lawsuit settlement against Honda. This motor has been known to burn oil! So we took it to A local dealership and sold it. Honda is not what it used to be. Never buying Honda again. We have a new Sienna SE. Hope we have better luck !

My complete Thinking of this vehicle

I love this mini van from both the looks and performance. However there is a significant flaw in the design from my view point. First of all consider that I am 6 feet tall and weigh about 230 pounds whereas my wife is 4 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 105 pounds. Keeping this in mind, the vehicle suits me at the 5-starlevel but, not true for my wife with her leser height. Egressing and ingressing as the driver and/or front seat passenger is rated at about the 1-star level. Example from front seat either side of vehicle, she must turn so to have her legs out the door and then slide off the seat, basically uncontrolled fall, until her feet touch the ground. Getting into the vehicle is eq`ually as difficult, too. Now as the driver, she must raise the seat to max height and full forward in order to partially see over the dash. This position places her right knee against the lower part of the dash. To me this is a dangerous position in case of a head-on collision. Next, she has difficulty with vissibility from driver's position looking to right and/or left at a 45 degree angle as the view is completely blocked by the design/position of the pillars right and left of windshield. These drawbacks do not apply to me due to my increased height. Additionally, she has trouble reaching the brake and accelerator pedals, too. I have searched for pedal extenders, but Honda does not have them and the dealer could not help me on this problem. This problem is of such magnitude that I feel compelled to exchange this vehicle for another that will better suit the two of us in a more safe manner. Again, and as final note, this vehicle and the things stated about my wife apply only to her as I am completely satisfied although I, too, have significant visibility reduction at 45 degree angle to the left from driver's seat, and came very close to striking a pesdestrain who was blocked from my view by the left of windshield post.

This Odyssey replaced a 2003 Odyssey with 120K miles, which was trouble free and an excellent vehicle. At first I did not care for the lighter steering on the 2012 model, which has less road feel - but now I like it. Steering is accurate, and effort less. Ride quality, and barking is very good. The engine has not quite the power of the older model, but it gets 25 mpg city/hway v. lifetime 22mpg - and I am happy with that. First time I've had a nav. device. I like it, although I haven't mastered the audio recognition yet. I have only done 2000 miles, but like the car very much, and would recommend it highly. My wife likes to travel in the middle seats, which she says are very comfortable.

I traded in my 2008 Odyssey Ex-L with Nav. and rear entertainment for the 2012 EX-L. I tried to return the van the next day and was told my trade was already shipped off and they didn't have it anymore. What a disappointment in the drive. The dealership is not near the highway so the test drive was fine. It wasn’t until after I bought the van and got onto the Interstate that “buyer’s remorse” set in. The wife and I could hardly carry a conversation from the loud road and wind noise. The steering is much more sensitive and it felt like the van was getting blown all over the highway. My 2008 was much quieter and the drive was more enjoyable than this 2012. We travel a lot on the interstate and if I ever get equity back I’m trading it in as soon as I can.

This is the first Honda we have owned, and I am still positive over 200,000 miles. I like the feel of the van, build quality, great use of space, and general quality. We treat the van very gently, but we have still had a fair number of issues: 1. The entertainment system is proprietary, and now that the CD player which is tied into the whole entertainment system has failed, my only repair choice is to go back to the dealer. 2. The V-6 engine which I thought would be bullet proof continue to have issues with oil burn. We have babied this van and done all maintenance, but it is still burning a quart of oil every 2,000 to 3,000 miles. Update: I had the same engine missfire issue again, and Honda did a more thorough fix. Over the last 80,000 miles, oil usage went down to the point I haven't had to add any oil between oil changes. If this holds until the next update, I will increase my rating. 3. At 120,000 miles the timing belt broke. I had replaced the belt myself and used a non-OEM belt, so that could be the cause, but it was still surprising that it happened. We were able to replace a couple valves and the van is running again like it should. All OEM parts this time. 4. At about 155,000 miles, the passenger window mechanism broke. I was about to take everything apart and get the window up. Although the van is getting older, we do not use the windows that much, so this shouldn't have happened. 5. The passenger side sliding door failed open. The door would not even shut manually. It seems like something in the motor failed and will not let the door move. 6. The van has been rough on tires. The alignment checked out ok, but the rear spring don't hold up as well. This could partially be my fault as the van has been overloaded several times, but the springs are very difficult to find. I ended up adding air bags to the rear, and I will update next time if this helps tire wear. At 185,000 miles got the first emission system trouble light. Hopefully just an O2 sensor. Stay tuned. 200,000 Took the van to Honda Dealer. The issue with the engine was a control module for the cylinder deactivation. Also had the dealer replace the motor assembly for the passenger sliding door. At 13 years, I am still satisfied with the van, and parts are plentiful which makes it a good choice for a vehicle that needs to be kept a long time. Doing the minor repairs and maintenance myself and including insurance, fuel, and maintenance, the average cost of the van is $415/month and $0.48/mile (assuming current fuel prices)

This is our first minivan. We traded a 2008 BMW X5 for the van and so far we love it. At the time we bought the van, we also traded a 2006 BMW 550i for a Mercedes E350. We NEVER use the Mercedes, my kids think its boring. They always want to use the van. We have put 8K miles on the van in 6 months. It handles great, rides well, has plenty of horsepower (for a van), and our kids actually like taking road trips, something we could never get them to do before. We got the Touring Elite, and the only problem so far is a warped windshield that Honda agreed to replace. The fit and finish look great. We got Black with the Truffle interior and we get a lot of compliments from others.

I just brought it last week, by my experience, the worst part of this vehicle is its Navigation System, I bet, nobody can find the AT&T sore in it, I tried for 2 days to search just to check if it works. They charge 2000+ for Navigation system whereas for 300 we can get the best from Garmin or Megellan so never buy with a navigation. If i place the child seat in the 2nd row middle seat the enterance to the 3rd row is blocked because the bucket seat doesnt fold then. No place to put children toys etc.

I don't fit the minivan demographic as an old retired guy. Trading my 6 year-old Lexus RX for an Oddyssey was not an economic decision but I am now a Honda owner for the first time. It's only been a week, hence the word preliminary. Fit and finish excellent, interior roomy and comfortable, seats relatively easy to manipulate into many configurations. You need a little muscle to get the second row seats out, though, if the room is needed. Adequate power, handling surprisingly sedan-like, reasonably quiet. Many advanced safety features and air bags. This vehicle represents a highly evolved version of the classic minivan. The communications features-radio, CD, Bluetooth, USB, are great!

In the last year I have been in the shop 7 times for failed mechanics. The spark plugs have been replaced 3 times due to failure (this is a known Odyssey issue), leaving me stranded. Both sliding doors have failed mechanically. The brakes stopped engaging a few months ago. An engine mount broke. And the transmission has had problem after problem, transmission was flushed, had a software update, replaced the torque converter and still there is a loud vibration from the engine.....the dealership will not acknowledge an issue but there is a class action lawsuit out there (google "Honda transmission vibration problems"). I will never buy a Honda ever again after owning this vehicle.

At first I did not want to get a minivan, but with 2 kids and my wife watching my nephew, the decision to buy one made perfect sense. The Odyssey is so smooth, easy to drive, and turns on a dime. My wife loves to drive it and I don't mind driving it myself. It's quiet but don't let that fool you. If you need to, just punch it and it will surprise you on the amount of power it has. The automatic doors are a life saver, especially at Walmart.

Just took delivery of our new 2012 Odyssey Touring Elite last month after trading in our 2007 and we're really disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, we love the ride and comfort but it seems Honda's quality has really slipped. When I first washed the van I noticed the rear quarter panel has ripples like there has been body work done. It had been on the dealer lot for only a couple days. Additionally, around the sunroof there is fabric that isn't glued down and is protruding between the headliner and the sunroof blind. The blinspot warning monitor on the passenger side is loose and rattles. The DVD has pixels burnt out and the rear bumper is warped; seems to only be on Touring Elites.

I have had my Odyssey for almost 4 years. 53,000 we have had to purchase tires, been through three sets of brakes on the front and new roters. Now having transmission problems. The DVD system has problems, the seats shake, the center seat cupholder has been replaced twice. The interior is plastic and everything scratches it. For what we paid this is so disappointing.

This is my 3rd Honda/Acura purchase in the last 6 years, and like my others, this is typical Honda. The Odyssey is only slightly better or manages to bring in more features than others in their class. By this, I mean you are getting a mini-van which has the most space, the best EPA mileage, likely the best re-sale value, and just about every safety and entertainment feature available. The implementation of many of these features, however, are often frustrating/incomplete/difficult to use. But, if you're buying an Odyssey, chances are you know that walking in and as I stated, it's the best option. The Elite has the 6 spd transmission, gets you around town easily, and keeps the kids happy

I have been driving a 2012 (bought used) for almost a year. I traded in my 07 Odyssey for the 2012. I like the updated style of the exterior, but I miss some of the features of the 07. It drives/handles just fine, no complaints. There is quite a bit of road noise, for the $$$ a quieter interior would be expected. I like the way the 3rd row seats fold so easily. The center console is a poor design, once you put stuff on top, it's a hassle to get to anything that may have been put inside. Drawers would be a good idea. We miss the cup holders on the sides of the 2nd row seats. There is a center fold down with cup holders, but that isn't always down if there is an extra passenger or if the kids want to spread out. It is comfy, both the 07 and the 12 are super comfy and roomy. We've taken road trips with 4 adults and 2 kids with plenty of room for everyone and their stuff. I wish the power lift hatch was available on the lower models, I paid more because that is one feature I really wanted; but the other features aren't used often. All in all, we're pleased, but it is expensive.

Lease was up on the 2009 LX and took on the 2012 EX for the SAME price. 2012 Pro: -Luxurious feel & I still own luxury cars for comparison -Many neat features are standard -Compared to the 2009, I feel is slightly wider but not sure on length. This is based on pure feeling. Cons: -Harder to see the corners. More difficult to make tight turns & parallel parking -Lost the lower latch storage in the 2nd row. -Lots of buttons to play with. Its not very intuitive and I am a techie -Compared to 2009, it loses some of its sporty cornering. The ride can be a tad numb.

I purchased my 2012 Odyssey EX-L with around 23K on it and it IMMEDIATELY started to shake when braking. I took it to the dealer and they turned the rotors free of charge. 3K miles later it started shaking AGAIN and they wanted me to pay for it for over $300.00. I am now at 47K and getting my first brake job and am told that I need rotors FRONT AND BACK to the tune of $1200.00. FOR A BRAKE JOB! I am calling Honda America b/c I am infuriated. I have owned 4 previous Hondas, a Subaru Outback and a Ford F-150 and have NEVER EVER had issues with my rotors like this, even with the awful Ford! I have also had problems with the suspension, rear hatch, RES, rim peeling, and transmission. AWFUL! 2018 UPDATE: 89K and we have replaced the motor for the tailgate, both front axels, DS door actuator, trim around base of seat, rear wiper and I know I’ve forgotten a few things. I am just so glad I purchased the extended warranty with this van! Overall I do think it is the best van on the market and honestly I don’t know if anything produced today with all these plastics and computers is going to have any fewer issues (as sad as that is.)

I bought this van a year and half ago. It was the best purchase I have ever made. I haul around 3 large dogs, 3 children from 5-13 and there is still room for the husband and our luggage.. I put 25k miles on the van in less than 2 years. I only ever had in the shop for routine oil changes and tire rotation. I bought this van for its convenience, comfort and above all safety. The van is loaded with safety features. Sadly, just this week I was t-boned from the drivers rear by a driver speeding off an exit ramp. The van performed exactly the way I had hoped it would should an accident occur. The van is totaled and I am walking with only minor injuries. If you want safe, get Honda!

Have owned five Odyssey minivans since they were redesigned in the late 90's. This unit has been by far the most reliable, trouble free one. Highly recommended. Always had issues with the "lightning rod" design, introduced in 2011, which I thought was downright ugly. So sad to see that Honda did not get rid of that design element in the new 2018 model... an opportunity to reinvent itself.

The minivan...what a great invention. Never thought I'd get a minivan. It was always RR and S550, but boy what a wonderful and practical car. I've driven my buddy's Sienna and it does not compare to the Odyssey. Toyota tried too hard, whereas Honda is just so good in this market. The only gripe that I have is that someside door armrest stains do not come out easily (i.e. sunscreen residue). Other than that, the slow acceleration, long braking distance, plastic interior pieces are all expected in this vehicle. I will always have an Odyssey in the garage. Perfect road trip and people hauling vehicle.

Simply The Best Minvan

This car purchase has been by far the best one we have ever made. Seriously, once you are a Honda Odyssey owner, you are one for life. We purchased our 2012 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite new for our growing family. We had a 9 year old, a Labrador, and newly born twins and needed a large vehicle. Our intention was to purchase an SUV but after test driving them and comparing them to a minivan, there was no other sensible choice. After trying multiple other minivans, the clear winner was the Odyssey. The build quality was far more superior than any other make. Too many other vans had really cheap "chrome" - why? Our van is now 5 years old and we have never had any trouble other than replacing tires that probably wore out too soon. We chose the Touring Elite because it was the top of the line and had all of the features we wanted. Now for what we don't like- Navigation is dated and was so in 2012, USB is in the glove compartment and Bluetooth has a built-in delay which is totally annoying. The front driver's seat could extend a bit further back too. Our next vehicle will be a new Odyssey in for near future.

We have owned a 2001, 2006, 2009, and now just leased a 2012. If you are thinking Odyssey, think of other vans. Definitely do your research. The storage and plushness or the van has really cheapened through the years. I was going to explain myself more, but this forum limits your characters. I am very happy that we lesased and did not buy. Honda has gone cheap on me! The upholstery in the interior is junk. I always loved Honda for it's functionality and every day conveniences of storage and comfort, but at the same time style and class. They have replaced their simple beauty with cheap plastic and less functional storage and conveniences. It is no longer a pleasure to have a Honda!

After sold our 2000 Odyssey with 130K mi, wife decided to get another Odyssey right before our summer vacation trip. After our 4000+ mi trip, it seems to be a right decision. The van is very comfortable to ride in and drives like a Honda. Although I wished it could have 50 more horse power, and have sports tires. The fit and finish are very good and we didn't experience any usually wind noise. The gas mileage is unbelievable on highway. With 3 adults and lots of stuff in the back, we get about 26.5 mpg on average and at one point, close to 29 mpg. The transmission shifts smoothly, although the van is kind of sluggish when you try to pass someone on highway due to lack of torque.

I would rate this van outstanding. We bought it new and drove it for 38,000 miles. We loved it so much we just traded it for a 2015 Odyssey Touring Elite to keep current. We'll never stray from the odyssey. Our 2012 was the best vehicle we've ever owned- comfortable beyond our expectations, high-quality feel, and rides like a car- the Honda Accord to be specific. If you want performance and luxury in a minivan, this is the way to go. The lower trims are all nice, the Elite just takes it a step above. The top-performing van will always be a part of our family, thanks to our excellent experience with this one. Great job, Honda!

I had a great experience with my 2009 Odyssey and made the mistake of purchasing my 2012. This van has had one problem after another and the dealer (Norm Reeves Irvine) uses every opportunity to try and rip me off. A noise complaint turned into a $650 power steering pump replacement that did not fix the noise. The sliding door has always had an intermittent grinding sound and was finally recognized by the dealer after the warranty was up. The car broke down and left us stranded with the main computer completely malfunctioning. The brakes are too weak and constant require maintenance. I'm absolutely done with buying any Honda in my lifetime.

OK my 2005 Sienna XLE needed new --loved it. First thing, I can't believe how the interiors of these vans have CHEAPENED over the years. So much so I couldn't stomach the new Sienna. The Ody was just passable. Already the door switches are scratched because of the cheap plastic. I almost pulled the trigger on the Quest but couldn't get over the ugly stick and the suboptimal tranny (CVT). I have a Maxi CVT, it's just the load killed it. In any case driver console is just cheap. All the rest of the car is great. What were they thinking? Also should have 110 in 2nd row, not 3rd. Lots of finishing not good. Had to slap a few panels in, pull some plastic and carpet fibers. Hmm...

My wife and I decided that the Odyssey would be the best bet based on our growing family but soon had doubts. 1. After 4K miles the windows started rolling down automatically when the car was parked - at home, in the parking garage at work, in downtown DC. I took it to the dealership twice before they diagnosed a defective key fob and replaced both keys. 2. At 18K miles we started noticing a little hesitation when driving on the highway between 45-55 miles per hour. I took it to the dealership where they told me the transmission needed to be replaced. Now with a new transmission we have 25K miles and I feel a similar hesitation. I think I need to trade the van before the warranty is up.

We replaced my wife's Porsche Cayenne S Titanium Edition with two VW Touaregs. Although the Touaregs are built on the same chassis they are worlds apart and we were very disappointed by the Touaregs and specifically the support or lack there of from the manufactures and dealers. With two children under the age of two we decided to look at minivans. Having owned and raced a number of Hondas over the years I didn't have to look much further then the Odyssey. We ended up leasing a new 2012 Odyssey (at a great rate thanks to Honda's great residual value). The Odyssey is a brilliant choice for anyone with children. Maybe it's not as "cool" as a luxury SUV but it is way more practical.

After a dismal experience with a 2011 Toyota Sienna, which we purchased new, we bought the Odyssey in large part based on the 140,000 trouble-free miles put on our 2003 Odyssey. Initially, all was well. But, in two years and a tad under 50,000 miles, we had to replace the power steering pump and transmission (though that took four trips to the dealer before Honda relented). There was also a chronic grinding/whining noise that intermittently came from the a/c compressor and was never fixed. Not wanting to risk more failures, we traded it in for a 2014 Odyssey before the warranty ran out. Eighteen months and 31,000 miles into the 2014 model, it has been trouble-free, just like the 2003 model.

My 2012 Odyssey is only 6 months old. A month ago I noticed water (puddle) in the rear cargo floor well.I was told this doesn't happen to the Odyssey only in the Honda civic. So after a week without my van I was told it was the rear seam sealer was missing and this is how the water was getting in. Well now I'm just waiting for the next rain storm. If I wanted a van with a pool I would have ordered one. Also there have been 2 recalls. Is this Van going to last at lest 10 years? I always had a Ford and my Ford Van lasted 10 years. I'm not saying don't buy the Odyssey because it is a good ,comfortable van, just buyer be aware.

This is our second Honda Minivan and will trade up for a new one. My wife loves that she can see everything due to the height of the van as compared to my sedan .... That she hates to drive. I love to drive it on long trips..... Just set cruise control, let navi tell me how to get there. Only thing I do not like about the navigation software is that various state rest stops are not indicated. We put 100,000 on our 2005 and have 99,000 on the 2012 van with no major mechanical problems.

After many debates btw Sienna, Quest, and Odyssey, my wife and i finally decided to settle down on Odyssey mainly because of my long great experience with Honda accord and sporty look of Honda Odyssey. This is a fun car to drive, i love the features and option that are included in this car. I like the fact that it looks like a sporty minivan rather than mama's minivan. It's been three monthes and i'm enjoying it alot, my only complain is interior material that is very cheap. This would've been a top minivan had Honda used some decent interior material. The overall interior design is outstanding but material is very cheap.

With 6 occasions in 11 monthsafter purchase where the car could not be started, and 5 trips back to the dealer to try to fix the problem, (and a new battery after the first one died just one month after the car was purchased new) this car is headed for lemon law arbitration. I have owned 7 Hondas. This car shows how badly Honda has slipped. It's a shame that it's such a piece of junk, because on the occasions when it decides to run, it's a very comfortable vehicle.

I dont feel like I am driving a mini van! The kids love the space that we have now after coming out of a 2010 Kia Forte Koup! They can move!!! The vans design is fabulous and love the 3 seats in the middle row! This is my first Honda ever so pretty thrilled with it so far! The drive is smooth! You dont even know its running after you start it! Has alot of power and love the electric doors and trunk! If you are looking for a good quality van this is for you!

We bought the Odyssey right before Thanksgiving to accomodate a growing family. Everything went well for the first 10 days. It drove well and our daughter loved it. Unfortunately on day 10 of ownership, one of the rocker plates broke and got sucked into the intake and destroyed the engine. So now I don't have a car for the next week or two while it gets a new engine. Less then 700 miles with an engine going bad is a tad ridiculous. Wish I could go back on the decision to buy this and go with the Chrysler which I ironically did not buy due to concerns with reliability and resale. Go figure.

As I head towards arbitration in January 2013 with Honda and do more independent research, it appears that this unfortunate vibration issue has been occuring as long back as 2001. Honda should be ashamed. I am making a personal mission to spread the word of the lack of Honda quality. Honda offered 4500 (2000 of which the lawyer gets) to shut me up and move on. I said, "Thanks but no thanks". Im taking my chances and going before arbitrator. I wanted Honda to pay the difference of what I owe and the KBB so I can just get rid of this thing. They said no. Consumers can only be fooled for so long Honda. The word will spread. [HTML removed]
