Excellent Van
Bought the EX-L new. Bad: Paint job-scratches easily. Wind noise-Honda replaced seals as a recall, but still noisy. Steering pump-Honda also fixed steering pump under warranty. Good: The van is extremely comfortable. Drives excellent-like a car. Good power, handling, and brakes. Excellent in snow. Tons of room in back even with seats up. Fuel Economy=18city/27highway-great for a heavy and tall van w/244hp. Replaced tires at about 36,000 miles; not sure why other reviews say Michelins required b/c my replacements are GoodYear @ $120/tire. Few minor problems were unexpected for a Honda. Still much better quality and ride than my two Caravans. Would definitely choose the Odyssey again.
Love it, love it, love it!
We have just bought our 3rd Odyssey. No other minivan can compare, I wonder why the other guys don't just give up! I test drove the Toyota Sienna, thinking the new design would finally be some competition. ICK! I can't think of a single thing that I liked better about the Sienna, including the price. The Odyssey drives much smoother and more solid and the stearing wheel has a firmer feel. The Odyssey feels bigger (especially drivers seat) even in places where the specs say the Toyota is bigger. I thought our old 2001 Odyssey was the best ever - but Honda has improved on perfection.

First Impressions
Interior layout is great. only drawback is no telescoping steering wheel. DVD quality is above average for picture quality and great for size. Third seat fold is cake. 2nd row captains chairs are extremely comfortable. Exterior, I like the new headlights over earlier models. We love the slate green which depending on lighting can be silver or light blue to metallic green. Engine has power to spare. It has great high end acceleration. Wish it had auto rear hatch and laser cruise. Great Choice for mini van shoppers. Can't go wrong with how well this van holds its value.
So far so good
Traded in our 2002 Odyseey for the 2005. We were going on our third transmission at 51K on the '02. So far so good on the 2005. The 2005 is just as great to drive. We love all the upgrades like sun roof, second row windows that go down, and the third row folds down even easier without removing the headrests. I also like how the third row is split and that there is seating for 8 now. The lazy-susan seems ackward to get to and haven't really used it. The double glove-department is an intersting consept. I really like the big knobs on the dash and the shifter on the dash. The illumination of the dash is great, especially the day display, unless your headlights are on.
Most Overrated Minivan in the World
The driver's side power door opens a few inches and then stops, a real pain with a new baby which is the only reason we went the Honda route. Poor noise insulation, DVD works ok but the headphones have never worked correctly. Dome light barely lights up, Back seats are uncomfortable on a long trip. Traded a mid-level 1998 Olds Silhouette in on this much quieter, better ride, comparable power, and handled the same. 105K miles was time for a new vehicle, this is our last Honda.
Better than expected
Great family car. It is so functional but still alot of fun to drive. Really like the sport feel of the car. A very smooth ride. By far the best car we have purchased.
My favorite van yet
We've had our Honda Odyssey for only four months now and I enjoy driving it everyday. It's roomy interior is great for our four young children. I've owned a Chrysler Town & Country and a Toyota Sienna and I must say the Honda Odyssey tops them both. It drives great and looks even better. It's a very sporty minivan and the stereo is awesome. It also makes me feel very safe because of the airbags all the way around the van. And the passenger airbag automatically turns off if someone in the front seat is too small. So my kids can ride up front if need be. I recommend this van to everyone I talk to.
Superb Design in a minivan!
I chose the Ex over touring because I didn't like the price of a new set of pax tires, and I wanted the optional seat in the middle on 2nd row. Granddaughter loves to sit in front of the DVD player. DVD is a must from now on! Van handles well on the road, and cruise control never fluctuates on hills. Seats fold very easily for more cargo space. The nav. system is awsomely amazing! It's capabilities seem endless. It was well worth the money. Standard roof rails are nice, but almost senseless without the cross bars. The sunroof is refreshing at times, although I would opt for other features instead, like fog lights, automat lights, or auto tailgate closing. Auto side doors are great too!
Great Minivan
It is built with practicality and safety in mind (fold down seats, grocery bag hooks, lazy susan in floor, wiper speeds, backup sensors, run flat tires) and is easy to drive and looks great!
Good engine - suspect build quality
The initial build quality is disappointing with lots of rattles, squeaks and brake noise. I had to go the dealer two times to resolve these initial problems. Honda needs to pay more attention to initial build quality and testing. Dont they drive the vehicle outside the factory before sending it to the dealer?
2004 Odyssey
The Odyssey should have an all wheel drive option for those of us living in the northland. Our previous car was a Subaru Outback Wagon and we will likely go back to an all wheel drive option. We also have an AWD Passat and the difference between it and the Odyssey on snowy roads is obvious.
My 4 Year old picked it out!
My 4 yr old son picked out this van-- he liked the larger screen for the DVD- the comfy headphones-- I enjoyed the quieter road noise, the 8th seat (my son didn't like sitting all the way in the back)- easier to use fold down seats-- I love everything about this van!
The Odyssey is good but needs improvement
Good car. Better than our Buick Rendevous. Smooth ride, good power, good pick up and steering. Feels secure and sure-footed. Snow driving was fair -- not nearly as good as the Rendevous. Why don't they make an AWD model? Wake up Honda! NEEDS telescoping steering wheel (This is supposed to be a touring model right?)You just can't get extremely comfortable. There is no mute button for the radio to be found! We got kids! ARGH! DVD system is nice. There is no random CD setting on the sound system (painful), again, this is a touring model! Arm rests are too small, not built for Americans. But the American vans were bad too! No coin separator holder! When rear seats are down there is 0 rear storage
Disappointed in 2nd Odyssey mileage
Owned a 2005 Odyssey for 4+ years and traded it with 75,000 miles for the new 2005 Touring edition Odyssey in September 2004. Have been very disappointed with city gas mileage--my previous Odyssey got about 17 mpg and the 2005 was advertised to get approx. 20 mpg city and 28 highway. I average 14.5 mpg city and 22-23 highway. Needless to say am not happy and am seriously thinking of selling and buying the Toyota Sienna. I have owned 5 Hondas and have been a loyal customer but maybe it's time to make a change.
Great Granny Van
Got the van to transport grandkids + in their car seats. Too new to give a gas mileage review - has only 600 miles on it. Wanted an 8 passenger vs 7 so we chose the EX as it had certain features plus 8 seating. (too bad the Touring model was only 7 passenger as it has more features we liked). EX drives like a dream. Easy to handle & park - no problem adjusting from driving a small Civic to a van). Nav system & voice recognition are FANTASTIC. In Floor Lazy Susan nice storage. BUT for a $35,000 + vehicle, it LACKS SAFETY FEATURES that Toyota Sienna has, i.e., Front & Rear Intuitive Park Assist, Dyn Laser Cruise Control, Day Run Lights, Auto Dim Inside & Outside Mirrors, Auto Open Tailgate.
Poor Air Conditioning
Only 4 and a half years old. A/C stopped working. Clutch and coil needs to be replaced.
Best In It's Class
2005 Honda Odyssey is the way to go when buying a minivan. It drives and handles the road like a car. It's very comfortable and easy to fall in love with. A five-star rated minivan in my opinion. I could sell these vehicles all day long....and I'm not a sales person.
VKs Review
When we bought this 2005 Odyssey we traded in a 2002 Odyssey which I really loved. The 2005 Odyssey has lived up to all expectations. It is definitely quicker and faster and more powerful. It is so easy and convenient to drive and I love all the "settings" that are available on it (although I thought learning to use the "settings" required a high learning curve). The other day motion sensors on the back kept me from backing into a car that came racing through the parking lot as I was backing out.
Love my 05 Odyssey
As a salesman who puts close to 50,000 miles per year on a vehicle I want something I can depend on and the 05 Odyssey fills the bill. It is very powerful, yet gets good gas mileage ( 21-25 mpg depending on conditions) comfortable and fun to drive. It just has the feel of a solid well built car that can haul 4 golfers, their clubs and luggage with ease. A very important aspect for me is the resale value which is 2nd to none in it's class. When the time comes I will buy another one.
Rusted Catalytic Conveter
This was our third Honda but we are very disappointed. We started to hear noises just before the warranty ended, when we took it they changed one of the catalytic converters and we still have the noise. It is out of warranty. They said all the converters rusted. Never will buy Honda again. You pay $35 K and it rusts in 3 years. Why pay that much?
Great Ride
This is my first mini-van and the one I "upgraded" from sporty 3000 GT. I'm surprised by the handling of this vehicle. Although it cannot come close to the GT's performance in turns, it handles better the most sedans. Interior is also very well designed. Removing and installing the second row seats was tricky the first time but once you know the order it is easy.
2500 mile vacation
Took a 2500 mile trip with my Honda LX. Best mileage was 26.47 mpg highway, the worst was 16.99 mpg with city and low octane gas.The seats are very uncomfortable and firm, and we had to stop every hour to get out of the van.aWe added padded seat cushions and several small pillows for the chairs, then we could sit in the seats several hours without our legs going numb. With a full load for vacation the van rode very harsh over rough highways and expansion joints. We had wind noise from 35 to 70mph. It is the windshield trim strip gap. Acceleration was great. It has a much sharper turning radius for parking.
2005 odessey
wonderful van i have not enjoyed driving a family car in such a long time.I acutually do most of the driving and don't get mad in traffic.
Dangerous Operating costs
Never buy a touring. The cost of tires will rip you. 2 touring tires cost $559+taxes+disposal etc. (Costco does not sell it ) and I have been replacing every 20,000 miles. I do drive only city, but so was when I was driving Camry which used to give between 35- 40,000 miles. Even third party warranty excludes tires. Fuel efficiency is in 14-16 mile range and long distance is 21 miles approx. Also AC broke once ($600), exact same repair for three of my friends when the car was about 50,000 miles. Stay away from touring. Buy accessories instead to make it touring without the expensive tires.
2005 Odyssey
We have had our 2005 Odyssey EX for just over a month now. We absolutely love it! We replaced our 04 Accord as we wanted a family car that was roomy. It is VERY spacious with an extremely well thought out interior design. It is also very flexible in the arrangement of the seats, etc. I wish the gas mileage was better, but what more can you expect for a 255HP, and Very Powerful, engine (and compared to similar models, the mileage actually is much better).
My '05 Odyssey
Having my '05 Odyssey EXL DVD & NAV for 8 month without a major complaint. Longest trip so far is Lake Tahoe, we all loved it, especially both of my kids enjoys much on DVD, and myself loved that path finder NAVI, never get lost. Need better insulation on the sunroof, I feel heat wave coming from my head on during these hot days even with the AC on.
You wouldn't know it was a minivan!
Incredible automobile. The ride and drivability is like a european sedan...not a minivan. The fit and finish is extremely fine. By far and away..the grooviest and hippest minivan on the planet. We drove them all before we purchased. Hands down...the best.
Safest Car Ever!
My car is so great because there it has rear air conditioning for the back for my kids.
Best minivan
This awesome minivan is comfortable, trouble free, and I know my family is safe when riding this vehicle. It has strong but quiet engine. My family enjoyed the Honda Odyssey 2001 and know we LOVE the Honda Odyssey 2005.
The Mercedes Benz of Minivans
I test drove the Sienna and the Odyssey extensively. In terms of cost, Sienna is less expensive but the unappealling exterior looks and the uneven drive led me to purchase the ODYSSEY. The exterior look is just sharp and smooth. The drive is amazing. So far so good.
New honda minivans
We just bought the van and love it. With a large family the leg room for teens growing have full range to chill out in the middle or back seats. A dvd player is always a great help too for traveling. With 1 teen, a 10, 7 and newborn, the car seats for the 2 younger ones still have plenty of room for both next to one another without the cramped space.the 8th seat is great for roomage and or taking it out for extra space between the car seats. the extra compartments are a plus feature too... rating a 9.5 for this van
The Van is Great
Went looking for a 2004 EX Ody due to high CR ratings. Test drove 3 & found huge range of ride quality. Test drove three 2005s w/similar mileage and all had same ride quality - vastly superior to 2004. Previously purchased high mileage 99 Ody that served us well - despite installing 2 trannys at warranty expense. Wrecked it in January & bought the 2005. Incredible ride, handling, quiet, features, kids and wife absolutely love it.
Love It - Will Never Drive Anything Else
I have nothing else to add except that this has to be the most amazing vehicle I've ever driven. Spacious, yet drives like a car. My family loves riding in it (and watching DVDs on those long trips).
Good car
Good safe car, very comfortable.
This is one big people and stuff hauler
The 2005 Honda Odyssey EX w/Leather and RES is a true value for money. I love the leather seats, the 2nd row captain seats with center 8th seat and the spacious 3rd row bench seats. The engine is powerful and can accelerate very quickly on highways. The tires and track are wide to give you a comfortable ride. The RES (Rear Entertainment System) being fully integrated with the audio system is really nice, and the sound quality of the audio system is quite good. The controls are ergonomically placed. The headlights are very intense and provide good visibility. The 3rd row seats fold flat and allow you to carry lotsa cargo.
Honda Lover
This is my third Honda purchased within the last 6 years, as always, Honda never ceases to amaze me. I started with the Civic, a great small car, then the CRV, a great SUV, but this Odyssey has made me see how wonderful it is to drive a full size vehicle. I did not think I was ready for the whole "Mini Van" thing, being only 29, but this is not like any other mini van on the market. The second row windows even roll down! It is like driving a luxury automobile at an "average-Jane" cost. Once again Honda has done an AWESOME job.
excellent for travel
I took this car on a road trip, over 5,000 miles, with my two sons (8&13)and it was excellent. There were no complaints of discomfort. I highly recommend this vehicle or any Honda. I had an Accord for 12 years with over 200,000 miles and it was excellent.
Silver Pearl Metallic Touring with Nav
I finally got my Odyssey, and first off let me say that Honda got it right this time,I have owned a 2002 ExL,a 2003 Havasu Blue EXL RES and most of the shortcomings have been fixed.road noise has been greatly improved, power, well it accelerates furiously, only drawback is the engine is more vocal, quiets down nicely after that though. Now for the creature comforts, all I can say is you will not want to step outside of this van,the navigation system is the best there is right now,I used it on my road trip and it is simply inspiring, the stereo system says Premium Sound System and actually lives up to the moniker. All in all folks this is the van to own.
Ask your car
I have a great admiration for Honda's of all kinds. I believe them to be very reliable, and know from personal experiance that Honda will stand behind their products, if they do find a reason to recall them. I also am a Navigation system fan, especially ones that not only show, but also tell you via voice when and where to turn, so that one can keep his eyes mostly on the road ahead! This one blows my mind, it not only tells you when to turn, but will accept voice commands, and can read information to you, or even control the climate system or radio, cd changer, or the rear entainment system's DVD or radio/CD system. In the near future expect much more voice control of ones car..WOW!
Never thought I would drive a mini van..
...but here I am, and having fun, too. The van performs wonderfully. It has enough power to get where you want to go and the comfort to make it satisfying to drive. Yes, I wish it had some additional features, but hey! it's a minivan. And most cars don't have as nice of an interior as the Odyssey Touring. For someone who wants a sedan, but needs space I couldn't recommend a better vehicle. And a SUV with the same features will run you about$10k more. In the past two months we've been up and down the state and have been averaging about 22mpg on the highway. If we drive with the a/c off we can get 24mpg.
I'm a Believer!
I bought the first non-American vehicle I have ever owned new. All I can say is WOW. There is just no comparison on the other side. Need I say more?
Honda delivers another knockout
Absolutely the best minivan money can buy. Only fault is that a power liftgate should be standard on EX and above, and a 4WD model should be available. But overall, the best money can buy.
Honda Odyssey Touring had to have it.
We have loved our Honda Odyssey and have taken it everywhere. Our dealer has been great with anything warranty and non-warranty related. This vehicle is like a sports car and is a blast to drive. It's hard to believe that this vehicle averages for us around 24 MPH while packed down with two children and all our gear for vacation. We will buy another one.
Very Good Minivan -- Expected Better
Despite disliking minivans as a segment, we fell in love with the features and performance of the Ody Touring when we test drove one. But, we expected better reliability and engineering from Honda after we had had the care for a while. The PAX system is terrible. On our 3rd set with 45K miles. Harsh ride with vibrations. Honda gives run-around when investigating replacing with conventional tires. Gas mileage in our hilly area is 12-13MPG. On the highway, we can occasionally exceed 20MPG. Maintenance costs at dealer are higher than for our Nissan Pathfinder SUV with many more things going wrong over the first 4 years of ownership. Poor and outdated car navigation system.
My wife actually likes to drive a van!!!
We have a MBZ ML430 but needed a much more reliable transportation so was set to get an AWD Sienna. But we decided to hold off until we can see the new Odyssey and the rest is history. My wife's car is a BMW 7 series and she actually compared the drive of the Odyssey to the Bimmer which I also agree. And the NAV is definitely the best of all three cars we own.
The Odyssey of Comfort
I was totally against the idea of buying a minivan, until I sat in the Odyssey. It blew my mind! I always assumed that a minivan was boring. This van is nowhere near boring....you can not put Odyssey and boring in the same sentence. I love the comfort of it. Most of all, I love the easy access in putting in and taking out my daughter from the van. I no longer have the back problems from bending in the car to get her car seat in and out. It drives like a BMW. It's a Smooth ride. It hugs the road and that's comforting to a new mommy. (Especially in the rain).
Whistling Wind
We recently purchased our first mini van and, based upon research and reviews, chose the Honda Odyssey EX- L. I have been impressed with the performance and overall comfort with the vehicle. However, between 35 and 60 m.p.h. we have a very distinct wind whistle on the passenger side. Upon taking the mini van back to the dealership, we were told that it was a manufacturing defect (several other new odysseys have the same problem) and there is no known remedy at this time. I am pleased with the vehicle overall, but am very disappointed with Honda's inability to fix this problem. I have been informed from our dealership that this has become a common complaint.
Try one more
We traded our 2002 Odyssey because we were getting our third transmission at 51,000 miles. We've had other Honda's without problem so we decided to give it one more shot. So far so good, only 1,000 miles driven, and we love all the upgrades the 2005 has. The third row goes down without removing headrest, my wife loves the sunroof, I like the better mileage, the doors seem to work smoother, the illumination of the controls on the dash are cool, we like the layout of stereo and air controls better and definitely like having the controls on the steering wheel. For the money, I think we got a lot more with the 2005. Hopefully we got a better transmission.
Wait and Se
Totaled our 1999 Ody of 3.5years in Jan 08. Test drove 3 potential used 2004 replacements at local Honda dealership. Ride quality ranged hugely. Tried three (50K)2005s and we were hooked. If 2004 was 8 on 0-10 scale, 2005 was 10. Similarity of ride between the 3 2005s identical. Have had the 2005 EX a week now. Interior comfort styling, function is TOPS. Well taken care of by prev owner - all dealership maintenances. Steering pump and reservoir, brake pads, windsheild reglued by warranty under prev owner. Stereo increadible although old tech in no MP3/Ipod capable. Roomy, lush, quite tight ride, all power. Great van buy thus far - will advise later.
Odyssey ; not just a great mini van
My wife and I were not keen on the idea of driving a "minivan". After seeing the all new for 05 Odyssey, we were not concerned. This vehicle is truly an all utility sport vehicle (AUSV). We love the fact that it is just so comfortable for our family of 5 for daily driving. It is also outstanding in the area of storage and interior flexibility. In the past we had to tie luggage racks on the roof of our previous for a 2 week vacation. Not with this Odyssey. The vehicle is just so well engineered. The ride is absolutely fantastic. The 255hp engine gives this AUSV all the pep it needs for smooth sailing. Safety features abound along with a feeling of safety for the family.
