The 2005 Honda Odyssey replaced another Odyssey that we owned and I really enjoy driving this van. It has a more quiet ride and it is very comfortable. My gas mileage is better in this Odyssey and some of the controls have been moved to more convenient areas of the van. The spare tire has been moved to a more easily accessible place and there is more storage space in this van.

I have driven this car for 2000 miles and I thoroughly have enjoyed it, mileage was great on a parkway otherwise so, so very comfortable, can rearrange 2nd row of seats according to the needs-it was good for long trip, before I owned Nissan Murano I miss some features from that car but I would not go back.It is a great car I do not regret buying it.

Minivans have changed

The first thing that you notice is the improved looks, best among minivans (in my opinion). Then you jump in the driver's seat and experience a great drive. Yes, it's still a minivan, but a great minivan. Along with the smooth ride, the Odyssey has great function. Limiting standard features and some options on some models is frustrating but overall we are very happy. You can get some options, such as the auto-dim mirrow with compass through the dealership. We were fortunate enough to get a little off of MSRP and have a few accessories thrown in. I didn't like the beige interior much, but kind of wish we had chosen it over the gray. The gray interior is kind of monotone, boring.

Enjoy driving the van, it really does not feel like a van; nothing sluggish about it. Van has had some issues like brakes, a shaking as I approach 40 mph and a side door that is defective. All-in-all, I have to say I have enjoyed the van. My lease is up next week and I am considering keeping the van.

The minivan is very nice. The one complaint we have is that for such a nice car, it has a cheesy plastic fold down center console. The cup holders here are non adustable and do not fit larger containers. The front dash cup holders are too large and do not adust to fit even bottles of soda. The fold down rear seat is very nice. the ride is very quiet everywhere. Passengers in the second and third row all were comfortable and did not feel carsick at all, as many typically do in the rear of minivans. Overall, a very good car.

we searcgewd long and hard to upgrade from our 2000 Dodge Caravan. We liked the idea of fold-down seats but thought the new Dodge seats looked cheap and uncomfortable. We decided to go with the 2004 Odyssey or the Toyota van... until we saw the 2005 Odyssey! This is the perfect combination of people-moving conveinience and luxurious comfort!

This is my second one. We got the 99 sight unseen and got this one same way. This thing drives very good, It puts my ML500 to shame on handling. Had a whistle type wind noise. Took 3 visits to Team Honda to get it fixed, No problem they gave me loaner car just like the MB dealers.

This review is written of the truth. My families first roadtrip of over 1700 miles with our 2 kids was an absolute joyride. The ride was quiet which is almost impossible with 2 kids and they were thoroughly entertained with the DVD system for the 2 day ride. We have had more problems on a plane ride for 3 hours than in this van for 2 days! My brother has a BMW 740i and this van is just as luxurious with the heated seats and leather interior not to mention the sunroof and cupholders for days! Power when needed. Tried the sienna and the quest and for overall room, amenities, comfort the honda covered all the bases

I've taken all of the test drives of the many vans that are out there today. I highly recommend the Odyssey for its ride, comfort and style. Even though I only have 100 miles on it I know it's going to be everything Honda says it is. I've been a Honda owner for over 20 years and highly recommend it. I will report back when i have more miles Thank you again honda for making a very nice and dependable vehicle.

We just got our 2005 Odyssey last week. It is a true pleasure to drive. We have already taken full advantage of the 8th seat. We went on a drive- thru Christmas light display w/ me, my wife, 4 kids, and my mother-in-law and father-in-law. I was amazed how much room there was. I traded my 2000 Ford Windstar LX after having the transmission serviced 3 times in less than a year. We drove the Dodge, Mazda and the Toyota. The Toyota was the only other one that came close. You can get the Toyota Sienna LE in an 8 passenger model, but it costs extra, where the Honda EX comes standard as an 8 passenger. Honda is the best!

I had heard from my brother, and read in consumer magazines how good the Odyssey was, and it has lived up to all of that good press. The fit & finish are outstanding, performance is excellent, and the energy saving engine features of the high-end models are well worth the extra cost. This is by far the nicest, and best quality and value van my family has ever owned.

I bought the van with the idea that in retirement I could haul stuff, and that with the navi, travels would be easier and more fun. All that is spot-on and more. I love the way it rides & handles even in NC mountains. It has plenty of power to merge on I-85 or pass on NC158. We consolidated 2 houses into 1 at retirement, and the van more than paid for itself in hauling our belongings to the new house, the dump, the Goodwill, etc. I also feel very safe driving it, with all of the safety features built-in. I bought it thinking I would find it useful for travel (which it is), but I really just enjoy driving it every day, and that surprised me! Tomorrow I pick-up my new 2009, the 05 to my son.

No regrets spending $36.5K. It drives and handles better than our Volvo S70 GLT '98. Gas mileage is between 16- 21.5 mpg with 1,400 miles on odometer. Brakes could/should be more powerful to stop this hefty car. Steering is precise and not overly light but brakes feel vague.

Purchased a Touring NAV/RES in Silver Pearl with Black Leather three weeks ago, and I must say this is one very nice vehicle. This model has the feel and features of an Acura but the versatility of a large minivan. We absolutely love it! Great design - inside and out. The only vehicle that is even in the same class is the Sienna Limited but we came up with 20 reasons why we felt this is a better vehicle (for a list of the 20 reasons, visit my post #826 "Top of the Line Comparison" in the Odyssey vs. Sienna- 2005+ forum). If you are looking to buy, you can also visit my post #6633 "Pricing - Tips and Observations" in the Odyssey-Prices Paid & Buying Experience forum.

I really like the tourng version. I traded my Acura RL on this vehicle and was not dissapointed. It rides a little rough, but handles better than my 3.5 RL. I drive an 04 sienna on a regular bassis and the toyota has MAJOR body roll when compared to the Touring Honda. The Toyota has a good deal more engine noise as well.

If you are looking for the next generation of minivans, you must look at the Honda. It has features that make driving it just a delight such as all the sliding doors are powered and the warning sensors which tell you in the front or rear how close you are to another object. The way you can easily reconfigure the interior makes it useful for almost anything you need.

Its been just under 2 months since we had this 2005 OdysseyEX w L & Navi and have done about 2000 miles in driving. We drove from Philadelphia to Toronto and back with two toddlers, who were well entertained in the back seat and had very few complaints. The Navigation system helped find our way around in Ontario to which we were new. The Odyssey feels like driving an luxury SUV with its power and smooth ride. The only con is the fuel economy on long drives. I got 22 mpg as agint 25 to 28 which is listed in the specs.

We shopped Toyota and Honda. After driving both we noticed the power difference in the Honda. We really liked the styling of the Odyssey, especially the chrome on the front grille and around the windows. The Sienna was a bit more refined but the Odyssey was just plain fun to drive. This van has no trouble getting onto to major highways, the engine supplies plenty of power. You feel in touch with the road. Honda makes the option packages simple, we wanted leather and dvd, just had to find a dealer with the color we wanted at our price. It was difficult to find a Sienna XLE with Leather and DVD would be installed at dealer.

I share many of the same comments as the other reviewers. My wife quickly got over the stigma of SUV vs. Minivan. It was basically between this and the Toyota and it was pretty neck and neck until I test drove the Toyota. It just did not compare to the Honda. The Honda really moves and has great handling. Evidently I got the last one in the NYC area in this color/model for the next several weeks...

My wife and I shopped only Honda and Toyota to ensure highest quality and reliability. We drove them back-to- back within 15 minutes of each other. Toyota has slightly better fit/finish and materials, is quieter, slower, and rolls more in turns. Honda is more powerful, rides slightly firmer, and handles much better. Ergonomics in both are great excepts that the Honda does not have a telescoping wheel like the Toyota; sounds picky, but it makes a difference for driving comfort. Over 1200 miles, gas mileage averages only 21 mpg, but I expect that to pick up once the engine is broken (5k miles or so). For the same features in Honda, we needed to get Toyota Limited at 5k more; not worth it

Coming off 7 years of Chrysler T&Cs, we wanted to buy another, but 3 significant problems kept us away: 1. the stow away seats are inadequate for regular adult ferrying! 2. the head room shrank considerably with the side air bags (I'm only 6' but felt claustrophobic), 3. and the front passenger seat lost most adjustments. Come on. Figure it out! The Honda solves those problems, with good power, great tranny, comfy seats all around, decent int. storage ideas, and rep. for reliability. Not a bad execution, EXCEPT for the cheap plastics, everywhere. Every handle, lever and release feels thin, sharp (don't get cut) uncomfortable--like you'd expect in a minivan for $12K.

Outstanding performance, never considered a mini-van until now, it has the style and power to be more than a family car. I will consider this over many SUV. The safety features are extra- ordinary; 6 airbags, ABS, Stability Assistance, Pedestrian protection, Unibody.... they just didn't stop in satey at all. Interior, without question the Navi- System in the market (yes!, better than Lexus, BMW and other top contenders. Great materials and space improvement (how is that no wheelbase change but interior increased by 2 long and 1 wide inches). Reliabilty, well.... we all know how Hondas are. Odyssey... the best mini-van is back.

So Far I had a few things to pick about. The van came from another dealership so i really didn't have a choice other then that it was the color that i wanted. 1.scratches here and there inside the van(dealer going to fix that). 2.needed alignment(dealer taking care of that as well. 3.Glove box off alignment(did that myself). All in all the van is really nicer then most in it's class.

I have read about the Honda Odyssey since 1999 and thought about getting one. I've been to many dealerships over the years and finally decided to take the plunge on the new 2005. The vehicle is unmatched in creature comforts. Frankly, I'm not sure what others talk about when they say the 2005 Odyssey isn't quiet. While it's not a Lexus, it is pretty quiet-much quieter than previous Odysseys. Also, a MUCH better stereo. It isn't as comfortable as some other vehicles, but handles so much better than any other minivan, there's really no contest. Great in snow. Overall impressive, but I'm a bit concerned with passenger sliding door and the windshield fluid not working right yet! Hoping!

This vehicle is very comfortable. It has been driven to Florida from Massachusetts with a 6 month old infant & all the things that go with a baby & there was plenty of room left to spare. The ride itself was also quite comfortable. We had made the trip before in a Ford Explorer Sport Trac & we were much more happy with our new 2005 Honda Odyssey.

Wow! This is a fun minivan to drive. The powertrain has great response & Oomph when you want it, yet it's very smooth to drive around town or through winding roads. My wife drives it mostly, doing the mommy thing with two kids in tow. She loves it, and finds it very easy to drive - she says it's very much like our Camry was. I love that it doesn't feel like a minivan - on the highway it's very smooth/stable going 80+. Likewise it's easy to manuever around town, tight turns & parking lots. Built-in Traction control makes it stable in snow & heavy rain - that's if your tires aren't worn. It's a great family vehicle - roomy & flexible as a van, safe & easy to drive as a large car.

Got our new EX in Dec. Shopped around to find the colors we wanted. Edmunds says that others are paying MSRP but dealers around Dallas are advertising about 5% over invoice, which is what we paid. Sure is nice compared to our 97 GMC Safari that we traded in. First couple tanks of gas netted about 15 mpg for about 2/3 city and 1/3 highway. Hope that improves as the motor breaks in. Don't let the dealers get you to pay for that "paint sealant and scotch-guard" baloney.

I had my dealer add fog lights which come standard on the Touring. I bought the Honda custom 1st and 2nd row rubber heavy duty floor mats for the 2005 (they accomodate the lazy Susan in the floor- earlier mats won't work), a sunroof wind deflector and a Honda leather steering wheel wrap, all from online sources and installed them myself. The deflector took 10 minutes, the wheel about 1.5 hrs. I wish full auto headlights were available in the EX as in the Touring. That's really my only criticism. With 1400 miles on the vehicle, around town mileage is somewhat below par - about 17 mpg. One road trip so far was 26.1 mpg at 80 mph. Would probably have hit the estimate EPA 28 mpg at 70 mph.

I finally got my Odyssey, and first off let me say that Honda got it right this time,I have owned a 2002 ExL,a 2003 Havasu Blue EXL RES and most of the shortcomings have been fixed.road noise has been greatly improved, power, well it accelerates furiously, only drawback is the engine is more vocal, quiets down nicely after that though. Now for the creature comforts, all I can say is you will not want to step outside of this van,the navigation system is the best there is right now,I used it on my road trip and it is simply inspiring, the stereo system says Premium Sound System and actually lives up to the moniker. All in all folks this is the van to own.

...but here I am, and having fun, too. The van performs wonderfully. It has enough power to get where you want to go and the comfort to make it satisfying to drive. Yes, I wish it had some additional features, but hey! it's a minivan. And most cars don't have as nice of an interior as the Odyssey Touring. For someone who wants a sedan, but needs space I couldn't recommend a better vehicle. And a SUV with the same features will run you about$10k more. In the past two months we've been up and down the state and have been averaging about 22mpg on the highway. If we drive with the a/c off we can get 24mpg.

I bought the first non-American vehicle I have ever owned new. All I can say is WOW. There is just no comparison on the other side. Need I say more?

We have loved our Honda Odyssey and have taken it everywhere. Our dealer has been great with anything warranty and non-warranty related. This vehicle is like a sports car and is a blast to drive. It's hard to believe that this vehicle averages for us around 24 MPH while packed down with two children and all our gear for vacation. We will buy another one.

Very Good Minivan -- Expected Better

Despite disliking minivans as a segment, we fell in love with the features and performance of the Ody Touring when we test drove one. But, we expected better reliability and engineering from Honda after we had had the care for a while. The PAX system is terrible. On our 3rd set with 45K miles. Harsh ride with vibrations. Honda gives run-around when investigating replacing with conventional tires. Gas mileage in our hilly area is 12-13MPG. On the highway, we can occasionally exceed 20MPG. Maintenance costs at dealer are higher than for our Nissan Pathfinder SUV with many more things going wrong over the first 4 years of ownership. Poor and outdated car navigation system.

We have a MBZ ML430 but needed a much more reliable transportation so was set to get an AWD Sienna. But we decided to hold off until we can see the new Odyssey and the rest is history. My wife's car is a BMW 7 series and she actually compared the drive of the Odyssey to the Bimmer which I also agree. And the NAV is definitely the best of all three cars we own.

The Odyssey of Comfort

I was totally against the idea of buying a minivan, until I sat in the Odyssey. It blew my mind! I always assumed that a minivan was boring. This van is nowhere near boring....you can not put Odyssey and boring in the same sentence. I love the comfort of it. Most of all, I love the easy access in putting in and taking out my daughter from the van. I no longer have the back problems from bending in the car to get her car seat in and out. It drives like a BMW. It's a Smooth ride. It hugs the road and that's comforting to a new mommy. (Especially in the rain).

Whistling Wind

We recently purchased our first mini van and, based upon research and reviews, chose the Honda Odyssey EX- L. I have been impressed with the performance and overall comfort with the vehicle. However, between 35 and 60 m.p.h. we have a very distinct wind whistle on the passenger side. Upon taking the mini van back to the dealership, we were told that it was a manufacturing defect (several other new odysseys have the same problem) and there is no known remedy at this time. I am pleased with the vehicle overall, but am very disappointed with Honda's inability to fix this problem. I have been informed from our dealership that this has become a common complaint.

We traded our 2002 Odyssey because we were getting our third transmission at 51,000 miles. We've had other Honda's without problem so we decided to give it one more shot. So far so good, only 1,000 miles driven, and we love all the upgrades the 2005 has. The third row goes down without removing headrest, my wife loves the sunroof, I like the better mileage, the doors seem to work smoother, the illumination of the controls on the dash are cool, we like the layout of stereo and air controls better and definitely like having the controls on the steering wheel. For the money, I think we got a lot more with the 2005. Hopefully we got a better transmission.
