Good engine - suspect build quality

The initial build quality is disappointing with lots of rattles, squeaks and brake noise. I had to go the dealer two times to resolve these initial problems. Honda needs to pay more attention to initial build quality and testing. Dont they drive the vehicle outside the factory before sending it to the dealer?

Overall I love my Odyssey. The only real complaint I have is the rough ride over small bumps. I believe this is because of the run flat tires. It's a great ideal (run flat tires) but rough on the ride.

Disappointed in 2nd Odyssey mileage

Owned a 2005 Odyssey for 4+ years and traded it with 75,000 miles for the new 2005 Touring edition Odyssey in September 2004. Have been very disappointed with city gas mileage--my previous Odyssey got about 17 mpg and the 2005 was advertised to get approx. 20 mpg city and 28 highway. I average 14.5 mpg city and 22-23 highway. Needless to say am not happy and am seriously thinking of selling and buying the Toyota Sienna. I have owned 5 Hondas and have been a loyal customer but maybe it's time to make a change.

When we bought this 2005 Odyssey we traded in a 2002 Odyssey which I really loved. The 2005 Odyssey has lived up to all expectations. It is definitely quicker and faster and more powerful. It is so easy and convenient to drive and I love all the "settings" that are available on it (although I thought learning to use the "settings" required a high learning curve). The other day motion sensors on the back kept me from backing into a car that came racing through the parking lot as I was backing out.

This was our third Honda but we are very disappointed. We started to hear noises just before the warranty ended, when we took it they changed one of the catalytic converters and we still have the noise. It is out of warranty. They said all the converters rusted. Never will buy Honda again. You pay $35 K and it rusts in 3 years. Why pay that much?

Took a 2500 mile trip with my Honda LX. Best mileage was 26.47 mpg highway, the worst was 16.99 mpg with city and low octane gas.The seats are very uncomfortable and firm, and we had to stop every hour to get out of the van.aWe added padded seat cushions and several small pillows for the chairs, then we could sit in the seats several hours without our legs going numb. With a full load for vacation the van rode very harsh over rough highways and expansion joints. We had wind noise from 35 to 70mph. It is the windshield trim strip gap. Acceleration was great. It has a much sharper turning radius for parking.

Never buy a touring. The cost of tires will rip you. 2 touring tires cost $559+taxes+disposal etc. (Costco does not sell it ) and I have been replacing every 20,000 miles. I do drive only city, but so was when I was driving Camry which used to give between 35- 40,000 miles. Even third party warranty excludes tires. Fuel efficiency is in 14-16 mile range and long distance is 21 miles approx. Also AC broke once ($600), exact same repair for three of my friends when the car was about 50,000 miles. Stay away from touring. Buy accessories instead to make it touring without the expensive tires.

Having my '05 Odyssey EXL DVD & NAV for 8 month without a major complaint. Longest trip so far is Lake Tahoe, we all loved it, especially both of my kids enjoys much on DVD, and myself loved that path finder NAVI, never get lost. Need better insulation on the sunroof, I feel heat wave coming from my head on during these hot days even with the AC on.

I test drove the Sienna and the Odyssey extensively. In terms of cost, Sienna is less expensive but the unappealling exterior looks and the uneven drive led me to purchase the ODYSSEY. The exterior look is just sharp and smooth. The drive is amazing. So far so good.

My 2005 Odyssey has been a true travel companion. I just got back after a 2300 mile round trip and it worked great. Drove through the Lombard St (Crooked street) in San Francisco, along the S Lake Tahoe and in the desert heat of 110 degrees for hours. Next trip up is Banff, Canada. I love this van and I am keeping it till it quits on me.

One of my worst experience of owning a new vehicle. We purchased it at around 40K and in the first 1000 miles the alignment was off. It kept on pulling to the right. Our family left for a road trip to LA from Seattle, half way down the trip, my front wheel bearings went bad and made a loud noise. So, we get stranded in San Francisco. It's still under warranty, but it had 3 to 4 alignments in the first year of ownership and Honda could not fix it or figure it out. I test drove 06s, 07s Touring models and they too have alignment issue. My Touring Ody spent more time at the dealership than we could trips at it just sitting in my garage. It also, had rattles and loud wind noise, disappointing.

I have six children in and out of the van daily. All children are in car seats. Eight passenger is great because I didn't want an suv. The one thing I would like Honda change is the volume speakers in the back seat. The volume is right in the kids ears and for the middle row of children to hear the ones in the back have it bothersome loud in their ears! That to me is a big problem, because not just the dvd player volume it is the radio too. The other problem is the back seat needs a little more room for these huge car seats. Car seat manufacuters and Honda need to talk space and size. The three in the back are extremely tight. We have to squeeze them in, in a creative way.

The 2005 Honda Odyssey EX w/Leather and RES is a true value for money. I love the leather seats, the 2nd row captain seats with center 8th seat and the spacious 3rd row bench seats. The engine is powerful and can accelerate very quickly on highways. The tires and track are wide to give you a comfortable ride. The RES (Rear Entertainment System) being fully integrated with the audio system is really nice, and the sound quality of the audio system is quite good. The controls are ergonomically placed. The headlights are very intense and provide good visibility. The 3rd row seats fold flat and allow you to carry lotsa cargo.

I have a great admiration for Honda's of all kinds. I believe them to be very reliable, and know from personal experiance that Honda will stand behind their products, if they do find a reason to recall them. I also am a Navigation system fan, especially ones that not only show, but also tell you via voice when and where to turn, so that one can keep his eyes mostly on the road ahead! This one blows my mind, it not only tells you when to turn, but will accept voice commands, and can read information to you, or even control the climate system or radio, cd changer, or the rear entainment system's DVD or radio/CD system. In the near future expect much more voice control of ones car..WOW!

I was a truly reluctant minivan buyer. I was never going to be one of those parents driving these vehicles. Honestly, once I decided to explore the possibility, the Honda blew away my expectations. Like most others, I considered the Sienna for it's AWD feature, but it never stacked up to the Honda despite that advantage. I listed many improvements that could be made to the vehicle, but none would deter me from buying again. The endless feature list is to voluminous to detail. The 255 HP engine is a joy. Smooth and powerful with virtually unnoticeable gear shifting. I hate to admit but I am a convert.

Initially had problem with steering wheel jiggle at higher speeds. Dealer did a spin balance of tires to no avail. Next the dealer had a power/force balance done at an offsite location and this worked. The dealer was very concerned and determined to fix the problem. The dealer was fair, and the tires were balanced.

This is our 4th Honda vehicle and I think we got a lemon this time. It was delivered with a scratch on front bumper which needed to be replaced. One year in we had to replace transmission! We've had lots of issues with driver side window motors, replaced engine mounts twice, replaced tires every 20K miles, rubber sealing on floor area of sliding doors is coming off and my Honda dealer service people know me by name... not a good thing! I don't know what engineers were thinking with shallow cup holders on tray and pull out holder is horrible... too loose to hold things. This van was not what I bargained for... one issue after another since we got it. Thank goodness we got Ext. Warranty!

All aspects of handling have been great. The interior design is not comfortable on long trips. VERY NOISY. The driver seat is great if you are a small person, but the steering wheel cannot be adjusted in or out, so if you have long legs and torso, you would need exceptionally long arms to reach the steering wheel. We have the need for eight seats but the middle 2nd row seat is just a joke as a baby seat won't fit there nor can anyone over 5 sit in comfort without cramping the seats on either side. Getting in or out of the the third row of seats is just passible for small children, just don't make this a teenager passenger vehicle (soccer team?).

We opted for a used Odyssey over a new domestic because this van is a perfect fit for our family. Performance is great with a strong V6. Everyone is extremely comfortable in the roomy interior. The handling and ride are both terrific for a vehicle this size. The Lazy Susan is handy to have. And to top it all off, the exterior styling is far superior to the comptetition. Wrap in Honda's reputation for quality and reliability and we figured we couldn't go wrong.

I was so excited to purchase the redesign model of this van after owning an Accord I loved. We had to move to a minivan after the birth of our 3rd child. We've had the power steering pump replaced 5 times, and we're preparing to put on the 3rd set of tires (@ 67K miles)! We've been told only 1 tire is made for the van-- Michelin --cha ching! I love the overall look of the van inside and out, enjoy the interior features and layout, and love to drive it despite all the aggravation. I must say, though, the van was a let down in general. I was really hoping for better fuel economy with the Honda reputation. I average 18 mpg around town.

I bought my Odessey 12/30/04. It is a 2005 EX. I currently live in Florida but my home is Maryland. It handled the road quite well. But fatique set in with leg room cramped on driver's side. It had pep and rolled with the best of them. Didn't notice road noise travelling up the interstate. My music drowned out everything anyway! Please make room for a full size tire!!!!! All in all, I would still recommend this van over any others! I plan on making another purchase of a van but want the full size tire option and driver leg/head room or I will hve to look elsewhere!!!! At the price for this van, I would think that these improvements could be met!

This has been the best vehicle we have ever owned (out of over 40). We had a 2003 Odyssey that was a great car, but the 2005 is a quantum leap forward in all aspects! As retirees, we use it mostly as a trip car and always feel safe and secure. We drove 900 miles in one day last fall and couldn't believe how comfortable the leather seats were (I'm very sensitive to seats as I have lumbar problems). The quality of the ride is outstanding as well as the ease in using the controls, especially cruise. Handling is more like a car than a van (much improved vs 2003). On trips, we usually average better than 26 mpg while driving 70-75 mph.

This is the most luxurious van you could ever want to drive. It has a very smooth ride. You can feel the transmission shift, but there is no jerking whatsoever. The ride is very quiet, with very little road noise. The inside looks like a luxury sedan and is quite spacious. The lazy susan is a dream come true for parents whose children like to travel with their Gameboys and games or for those who carry expensive items like cameras who want to have a place to lock it out of the sight of the outside world. The middle console in between the middle row is a favorite of our two sons. I just can't say enough about this beautiful automobile.

We bought our Odysseys because of the safety ratings. We ended up loving them. The ride is soooo comfortable, as driver or passenger. We live in lake effect snow belt region and always take extra caution with snow tires. Never had problems. Only had to do oil changes and minimal scheduled maintenance. Six days ago my 2005 Odyssey saved my life. A speeding driver blew a stop sign and t-boned me with such force that the van was thrown on its side (the driver's side) and then bounced back up on 'all fours'. The fire department was shocked when I literally walked out of that totaled van. They thought they'd be sending the med-evac chopper for me. I am sore and bruised but alive.

First of all the EPG is totally off! Although I am not sure if this is because of the type of gas you are using. When I use Stop $hop Gas I only get 15 MPG, use Mobile and I get maybe 20. The other thing is the glove box had gap in it.There was after spray on the moldings my van is white. My CD changer stopped working in December. Took a month to order and I won't get my CD's back until who knows when).I am dissapointed to buy a new car and have so many things wrong with it. They are minor and hopefully will not create more problems. Althought the CD player has been fixed I have to return to the dealer to get the side pannels fixed and now my dome lights are not working at all?!

I've had this car for 1 1/2 years now and must say that I have been impressed by the Minivan. With 21K+ Miles on it now, the Van has been safe, secure and stable on wet/slippery/icy roads of the North East. The VSC has really been great and the Brakes/Handling have been very good. My primary reasons for selecting this van over Toyota were the Standard Safety features and I have not been disappointed. Average Mileage 21 MPG.

Don't get me wrong,I do enjoy my vehicle. But, the cost of maintaining it is outrageous! The tires are awful, uncomfortable ride. The maintenance cost every 6 months is a rip-off. Each time is $50 dollars more. I'm now up to $325 for a "B3"and of coarse they tell me my brakes look like they need replacing (not covered under warranty). I just serviced it 5 months ago for "A something" which cost $249. What next, a "C something". Unfortunately I was told that if I don't keep up required service & specific tires - "void purchased extended warranty". What a crock. Never again. Ready to take a loss and go to TOYOTA. I'll save money in the long run.

I've owned several vans over the years, Toyotas, VWs, this Honda. This EX ranks right up there at the top. It runs well, handles better than my previous Toyota although my Previa was the best van out there in 1994. I've always required a vehicle that can tow a small trailer. This one does, although the towing package, consisting of enlarged trans. & pwr strg. coolers, a wind deflector, and the hitch and harness for lights can be expensive, depending on if you can install it yourself.

Noise

While so much seems fine we are having a lot of trouble with the exhaust. It seems when the car is at 2000 rpm there is a loud vibration noise under your foot on the gas pedal and under the seat of the passenger side. We've brought it back to Curry Honda twice and they have said it is a feature with the car and not to worry. However it is extrememly annoying to drive.

Watch out of 05's Issues

I love my van as far as features, roominess, etc. but I've had continual problems with grinding brakes. The dealership FINALLY resealed around windshield to rid wind noise, plastic around glove-box, leg area gets VERY easily "bummed" up. I would not recommend an 05 to anyone. In general it's a great van but the new model has had way to many quirks for me. My 9 year old Ford Windstar could beat this van up as far as durability, now special features it does rate tops. Considering trading my 05 for an 06 hoping they've fixed the quirks.

I drive with the cruse controll on 80 to 90% of the time,at the speed limit or slower. My gas mileage on the Highway is 28 to 30 miles per gallon. The Intown mileage is 22 to 24 miles per gallon. I have the leather interior and couldn't be more pleased. I haven't had the first problem with my vehicle.

Just purchased new '05 Odyssey EX-L in March and thoroughly enjoy driving this vehicle. Very comfortable, smooth and quiet. Engine is still in break in period (650 miles) and recently averaged 21.5 MPG on highway. Lots of usable space, cup holders galore and great seats that keep kids separated. First Honda vehicle owned but expect it to be as reliable as my Toyotas.

The usual wind whistle is the window shield trim and windshield gap. Sealed the area with black rvt sealant. Brake pads went out or had loud noise clucking. It was a recall thing, I have a loud clunk in very hot weather when I brake. The dash blower fan went out, the power steering had a howl when turning around 10-20 mph. It was known to the dealer, as most Honda had a bad set of steering pumps and brake pads on Hondas two weeks ago, my transmission at 40- 45 mph when I accelerate and at 20-25 mph when I slow down, it lurches or has harsh shifting feel. Dealer will not give out recall or part issues until you have a problem, in or out of warranty. The seats are very uncomfortable.
