Superb Design in a minivan!
I chose the Ex over touring because I didn't like the price of a new set of pax tires, and I wanted the optional seat in the middle on 2nd row. Granddaughter loves to sit in front of the DVD player. DVD is a must from now on! Van handles well on the road, and cruise control never fluctuates on hills. Seats fold very easily for more cargo space. The nav. system is awsomely amazing! It's capabilities seem endless. It was well worth the money. Standard roof rails are nice, but almost senseless without the cross bars. The sunroof is refreshing at times, although I would opt for other features instead, like fog lights, automat lights, or auto tailgate closing. Auto side doors are great too!
2005 Odyssey Touring
Overall I love my Odyssey. The only real complaint I have is the rough ride over small bumps. I believe this is because of the run flat tires. It's a great ideal (run flat tires) but rough on the ride.

Sorry Honda lovers, our last van
We were originally so excited to trade our SUV and get one when they first came out. However, we are quite over the extreme cabin noise (dealer will say it is tires, but we changed to no avail), steering squeals, brake grinding and shimmy, and easily marred bumpers. #1 is noise - both the "roar" when we drive and loud squeals from turning. Wife, who once loved it, now cannot wait to trade it as the DVD volume has to be 20+ to cover the roar. Dealer serviced since day 1, they seem to resist really trying to seek out the issue. Thankfully we bought an extended warranty as otherwise all of service efforts on these issues would be out of our pocket. FYI - No loaners car for service on $31K van.
Most Overrated Minivan in the World
The driver's side power door opens a few inches and then stops, a real pain with a new baby which is the only reason we went the Honda route. Poor noise insulation, DVD works ok but the headphones have never worked correctly. Dome light barely lights up, Back seats are uncomfortable on a long trip. Traded a mid-level 1998 Olds Silhouette in on this much quieter, better ride, comparable power, and handled the same. 105K miles was time for a new vehicle, this is our last Honda.
Very Disappointed
We were so excited to buy this van, and were really looking forward to many years of service from the vehicle. Now, here's the reality we've dealt with the last 4 years: 3 power steering pumps Passenger side window assembly Drive shaft Front rotors and finally, rear engine mounts. What happened to Honda quality? Of course, Honda was no help on any of this. Should have gotten the extended warranty.
The greatest minivan ever!
This was love at 1st sight. It's the most comfortable minivan we testdrove, with the best design of space. The ride is VERY comfortable. The vehicle is simply beautiful inside, with plenty of storage bins and smart rear seat folding.
Love the van, hate the MPG.
First 3K miles have been fairly uneventful. Van rides and drives like a dream with plenty of pickup and a resonabley quiet cabin. The overall fit and finish seems to be quite good and all controls logically placed. Did encounter a flat tire at 2K (non-PAC) and no michelin dealer in town (Louisville, KY) carried the replacement, dealer had to order and it took five days. The biggest disappointment has been with the gas mileage. Neither my wife or I have gotten over 19MPG. We got as low as 13 in the city. Overall we've been averaging about 15-18 MPG. Well below what is stating as the range. The dealer has asked me to provide receipts with documented mileage to help track the issue.
Poor Air Conditioning
Only 4 and a half years old. A/C stopped working. Clutch and coil needs to be replaced.
Awesome MiniVan!!!
Great vehicle for the family. One issue when shifting from 2nd to 3rd shift, you can feel the gears shift under the car. This only happens when you initially turn on the car and drive. After that, shifting is smooth. I would recommend this vehicle to any family.
Expecting more...
Was expecting more based on the reviews and am disappointed on some very obvious things missing. Don't get me wrong I don't hate the van; but expected a bigger difference compared to domestic mini-vans. For example, I owned a '97 Venture; didn't have a problem with it (didn't buy another because of resale and '05 being last year of it). I would like to see automatic headlights and daytime running lamps as standard; wouldn't that be a big preventive safety feature versus all the reactive safety features on the Honda??? In summary, the Honda is fun to drive and handles like a car. Gas mileage is a bit disappointing; but better than the Yukon I just came from.
Great Buy
Great van! We bought the EX-L. My wife vowed never to drive a van, but after taking this one for a test drive she was sold. We test drove the Toyota, but the overall options, handling (doesn't feel like a minivan), and interior design fitted our needs the best (two kids). We replaced the power steering pump after 65k miles, but luckily we bought the extended warranty). Great van to travel in or just around town.
Dangerous Operating costs
Never buy a touring. The cost of tires will rip you. 2 touring tires cost $559+taxes+disposal etc. (Costco does not sell it ) and I have been replacing every 20,000 miles. I do drive only city, but so was when I was driving Camry which used to give between 35- 40,000 miles. Even third party warranty excludes tires. Fuel efficiency is in 14-16 mile range and long distance is 21 miles approx. Also AC broke once ($600), exact same repair for three of my friends when the car was about 50,000 miles. Stay away from touring. Buy accessories instead to make it touring without the expensive tires.
SUV Convert & 1st Time Foreign car owner
My wife and I drove a Chevy Tahoe before we bought this van and loved our Tahoe. We said we would never own a minivan. So far, eating those words has been sweet! We decided to look at minivans since we have two kids. We drove the Toyota, Chrysler, and the Honda. The Chrysler guys did NOT want us to leave and after 5 minutes at the Honda dealership, we knew why. The Honda is hands down the winner. We have driven 1,000 miles and I am amazed at the comfort, performance, and handling. This van will move! Don't pay sticker. We waited 6 weeks, but Western Motor treated us well and discounted over $2,000. We bought the subwoofer, front nose mask, and HD floormats at dealer cost, no install charge
This is one big people and stuff hauler
The 2005 Honda Odyssey EX w/Leather and RES is a true value for money. I love the leather seats, the 2nd row captain seats with center 8th seat and the spacious 3rd row bench seats. The engine is powerful and can accelerate very quickly on highways. The tires and track are wide to give you a comfortable ride. The RES (Rear Entertainment System) being fully integrated with the audio system is really nice, and the sound quality of the audio system is quite good. The controls are ergonomically placed. The headlights are very intense and provide good visibility. The 3rd row seats fold flat and allow you to carry lotsa cargo.
Luxury sedan with room for 7
We initially went to look for mid-sized SUV's, with all of the bells and whistles. Then by chance we stopped into a Honda dealer, just to look. Wow, is this minivan loaded! And comfortable too! Yeah it's not as stylish as some of the SUV's. But there's more room and you end up with about $10,000 to spend on something else.
Rusted Catalytic Conveter
This was our third Honda but we are very disappointed. We started to hear noises just before the warranty ended, when we took it they changed one of the catalytic converters and we still have the noise. It is out of warranty. They said all the converters rusted. Never will buy Honda again. You pay $35 K and it rusts in 3 years. Why pay that much?
Ask your car
I have a great admiration for Honda's of all kinds. I believe them to be very reliable, and know from personal experiance that Honda will stand behind their products, if they do find a reason to recall them. I also am a Navigation system fan, especially ones that not only show, but also tell you via voice when and where to turn, so that one can keep his eyes mostly on the road ahead! This one blows my mind, it not only tells you when to turn, but will accept voice commands, and can read information to you, or even control the climate system or radio, cd changer, or the rear entainment system's DVD or radio/CD system. In the near future expect much more voice control of ones car..WOW!
Honda not as reliable as I thought
Likes: Looks, performance, handling. Dislikes: Oil consumption: recently began burning off oil. About a pint every 2000 miles. I used castrol syntec 5w20 since new and had it serviced by dealer. Dealer reply that this oil consumption is normal. This is the first vehicle I ever owned including a Dodge caravan with 130k miles that ever burned this much oil. I am not a Honda believer any more. My hyundai elantra 2002 with 140k uses no oil between 5k synthetic oil changes. Brakes: Rotors resurfaced at 20k miles and replaced at 45k miles. The brakes are already shaking again at 50k miles. Road noise, rattles (doors and moonroof).
The TEN in Minivans
I must first say that prior to purchasing this vehicle, I examined and researched all of the minivans in the market. I have to begin by saying that I rated the Minivans based on our needs as a family and only against other minivans. The Odyssey has met every one of our expectations regarding a minivan and has therefore scored TENS throughout our review. We traded in a Subaru WRX and a Dodge Durango so traction was important. I was able to test drive the Odyssey at the start of a downpour and throughout a very strong rain. It handled as if it were an AWD vehicle even when I allowed for quicker acceleration. The VSA worked flawlessly as did the iV- tec engine. Highly recommend the Honda.
I actually love it...
I was a truly reluctant minivan buyer. I was never going to be one of those parents driving these vehicles. Honestly, once I decided to explore the possibility, the Honda blew away my expectations. Like most others, I considered the Sienna for it's AWD feature, but it never stacked up to the Honda despite that advantage. I listed many improvements that could be made to the vehicle, but none would deter me from buying again. The endless feature list is to voluminous to detail. The 255 HP engine is a joy. Smooth and powerful with virtually unnoticeable gear shifting. I hate to admit but I am a convert.
Worth sticker, and much more
Our 12th Honda is our favorite by a longshot. How Honda outdoes itself year after year is a welcome mystery. The ONLY small complaints we have regarding the EX-L Odyssey for 2005 are the lack of a coin holder and the rather cheesy snap-together semi-coverage carpeting necessitated by the variable seating arrangements. We traded an '03 van for this one, coveting the vastly improved storage, the better mileage, and the larger gas tank, while appreciating the additional flexibility added to the seating, entertainment systems, power, comfort, and quietness of the new models. I wish we bought the Touring edition instead, though, after further reflection. You will, too.
happyowner
The 2005 Honda Odyssey replaced another Odyssey that we owned and I really enjoy driving this van. It has a more quiet ride and it is very comfortable. My gas mileage is better in this Odyssey and some of the controls have been moved to more convenient areas of the van. The spare tire has been moved to a more easily accessible place and there is more storage space in this van.
Good Van
Enjoy driving the van, it really does not feel like a van; nothing sluggish about it. Van has had some issues like brakes, a shaking as I approach 40 mph and a side door that is defective. All-in-all, I have to say I have enjoyed the van. My lease is up next week and I am considering keeping the van.
Good but...
This is our 4th Honda vehicle and I think we got a lemon this time. It was delivered with a scratch on front bumper which needed to be replaced. One year in we had to replace transmission! We've had lots of issues with driver side window motors, replaced engine mounts twice, replaced tires every 20K miles, rubber sealing on floor area of sliding doors is coming off and my Honda dealer service people know me by name... not a good thing! I don't know what engineers were thinking with shallow cup holders on tray and pull out holder is horrible... too loose to hold things. This van was not what I bargained for... one issue after another since we got it. Thank goodness we got Ext. Warranty!
A near perfect mini-van
The new Odyssey is close to perfect. Great handling with lots of power. I am a big guy 6'4", 230 lbs.. I find the seats very comfortable, with ample leg room. We nearly bought new last year, we are very glad that we waited for the new style and new standard options like sunroof, 6 cd changer, etc. Not as quiet as the Sienna, but overall a better vehicle. Reliability and depreciation of domestic mini-vans drove us to look at Honda/Toyota. Why can't Chrysler fix their transmission and front end woes? They have existed for years!
Real Family Vehicle
This review is written of the truth. My families first roadtrip of over 1700 miles with our 2 kids was an absolute joyride. The ride was quiet which is almost impossible with 2 kids and they were thoroughly entertained with the DVD system for the 2 day ride. We have had more problems on a plane ride for 3 hours than in this van for 2 days! My brother has a BMW 740i and this van is just as luxurious with the heated seats and leather interior not to mention the sunroof and cupholders for days! Power when needed. Tried the sienna and the quest and for overall room, amenities, comfort the honda covered all the bases
Wonderful Minivan
I had this Odyssey for just one week. The whole family just loves it. Interior is very comfortable and more luxurious than a Sienna XLE. Making a U-Turn is a piece of cake. It feels secure to drive and has a smooth ride.
I'm picking-up my new Odyssey tomorrow
I bought the van with the idea that in retirement I could haul stuff, and that with the navi, travels would be easier and more fun. All that is spot-on and more. I love the way it rides & handles even in NC mountains. It has plenty of power to merge on I-85 or pass on NC158. We consolidated 2 houses into 1 at retirement, and the van more than paid for itself in hauling our belongings to the new house, the dump, the Goodwill, etc. I also feel very safe driving it, with all of the safety features built-in. I bought it thinking I would find it useful for travel (which it is), but I really just enjoy driving it every day, and that surprised me! Tomorrow I pick-up my new 2009, the 05 to my son.
Odyssey 2005
Ever Since I purchased my odyssey 2005 I can't live without it. Excellent Handling, user-friendly features, smooth ride, excellent exterior design.
chaufeur
Rear fender panel loose. Battery failed in 3rd year. Carousel under floor too low to the ground. Smashed it in hitting road hazard first year. Gas mileage terrible. Tires wearing unevenly. Road noise very loud, brakes squeal.
Good 'n could be better
We bought this van because it's good handling design. Fuel economy is very disappointing if you look at the manufacturer's specs. High-way noise is very noticeble comparing to Sienna. VCM system is a joke.
Love IT!!!
My husband & I have 4 kids including twins. After we bought the van we went on a road trip to south Texas from North California. We were very comfortable! Our kids were very happy with the DVD player ages are 7,4,2. The trip was relaxing. Impressed with the power through the mountains and a very smooth ride. Would do the trip again! Very happy with the van. We got a good deal through the fleet sales manger. Would recommend the van!
2005 honda odyssey
Really solid. Excellent construction and design. Tight turning radius and wonderful handling. I love it. Had mini-vans since 1985 and this is the best by far.
66,000 Miles and Still Love It
We bought our Odyssey over three years ago and still like it as much as we did on day one. It's my wife's daily driver and with the nav. and DVD etc. the guys and gals she works with have her drive to lunch whenever they go out (even give her unsolicited gas money) because they like playing with the gadgets and it's really comfortable. With three kids ranging from 14 to 7, the long summer driving trips we've taken over the years have been a pleasure. We both like driving it and reliability has been typical Honda excellence. Just got back from a 2400 mile round trip summer vacation where we rolled over 66k--again, nothing but super review from us!
New Car
I'm 57 and this is the best car I have ever owned. I spent a week in snow storms and it handled perfectly. Very reliable and fun to drive.
Former Astro owner
I have driven 300,000 miles in my 2 Astro vans, without major problems. But I always felt that I wa driving a truck. The Odyssey gives a car-like firm, well controlled drive, has good sight lines, and is comfortable. But I am amazed at the wind noise; at highway speeds you need the radio on to drown it out.
Review 2005 Honda Oddessy
This is a very comfortable, reliable automobile. The information provided by display: range, average speed, tire pressure, etc., is very reassuring to the driver.
Great Vehicle,lots of pep,great handling
Smooth, sporty design with lots of room and overall performance. A real pleasure to drive on long trips! We love the versitility of this van. Engine is smooth and powerful. Automatic climate control is simple and effective The salesman had excellent knowledge of the vehicle and the whole dealership experience was friendly, efficient, and comfortable. We also got a very good deal! The Honda Touring is head and shoulders above Toyota in giving a feeling of quality.
Safest Car Ever!
My car is so great because there it has rear air conditioning for the back for my kids.
Odyssey Rocks!
My 2005 Odyssey has been a true travel companion. I just got back after a 2300 mile round trip and it worked great. Drove through the Lombard St (Crooked street) in San Francisco, along the S Lake Tahoe and in the desert heat of 110 degrees for hours. Next trip up is Banff, Canada. I love this van and I am keeping it till it quits on me.
An honest review
One of my worst experience of owning a new vehicle. We purchased it at around 40K and in the first 1000 miles the alignment was off. It kept on pulling to the right. Our family left for a road trip to LA from Seattle, half way down the trip, my front wheel bearings went bad and made a loud noise. So, we get stranded in San Francisco. It's still under warranty, but it had 3 to 4 alignments in the first year of ownership and Honda could not fix it or figure it out. I test drove 06s, 07s Touring models and they too have alignment issue. My Touring Ody spent more time at the dealership than we could trips at it just sitting in my garage. It also, had rattles and loud wind noise, disappointing.
Odyssey's a Disappointment
I was so excited to purchase the redesign model of this van after owning an Accord I loved. We had to move to a minivan after the birth of our 3rd child. We've had the power steering pump replaced 5 times, and we're preparing to put on the 3rd set of tires (@ 67K miles)! We've been told only 1 tire is made for the van-- Michelin --cha ching! I love the overall look of the van inside and out, enjoy the interior features and layout, and love to drive it despite all the aggravation. I must say, though, the van was a let down in general. I was really hoping for better fuel economy with the Honda reputation. I average 18 mpg around town.
Best van ever
This van is exceptional. The ride and performance are great. The interior features are full of nice surprises. The DVD is good, but the Navigation System is spectacular. Honda reliability and high resale value cannot be beat, not by Toyota, Nissan, etc. You can't go wrong purchasing this van.
Great Improvement
Great feel, far better than before. The interior is very luxurious, and very quiet, and a pleasure to ride in, especially on long trips.
Super Odyssey Van.....Funmobile, PLUS
This van is the best I have ever had, or driven in!!! Handles bumps with ease with a smooth ride. Excellent performance, fun ride, awesome features. The seats are comfortable like sitting in a lounge chair. The interior appearance is luxurious and practical. I like all the extra features. The dealership was helpful and made you feel right at home.
Our second Ody for a reason
This is the most luxurious van you could ever want to drive. It has a very smooth ride. You can feel the transmission shift, but there is no jerking whatsoever. The ride is very quiet, with very little road noise. The inside looks like a luxury sedan and is quite spacious. The lazy susan is a dream come true for parents whose children like to travel with their Gameboys and games or for those who carry expensive items like cameras who want to have a place to lock it out of the sight of the outside world. The middle console in between the middle row is a favorite of our two sons. I just can't say enough about this beautiful automobile.
Saved my life!!
We bought our Odysseys because of the safety ratings. We ended up loving them. The ride is soooo comfortable, as driver or passenger. We live in lake effect snow belt region and always take extra caution with snow tires. Never had problems. Only had to do oil changes and minimal scheduled maintenance. Six days ago my 2005 Odyssey saved my life. A speeding driver blew a stop sign and t-boned me with such force that the van was thrown on its side (the driver's side) and then bounced back up on 'all fours'. The fire department was shocked when I literally walked out of that totaled van. They thought they'd be sending the med-evac chopper for me. I am sore and bruised but alive.
Minivan for NONminivan people
My husband had to convince ME that we needed a minivan for our young, expanding family. (We are only in our mid twenties). I was determined to buy a Toyota until we test drove the Odyssey. It is SUPERB. We test drove on a saturday and went back to the dealership the following weekend to purchase. I like the way it handles like a car. I feel safe. When you drive the Odyssey you don't feel like a "minivan person".
So Far, So Good
Just purchased new '05 Odyssey EX-L in March and thoroughly enjoy driving this vehicle. Very comfortable, smooth and quiet. Engine is still in break in period (650 miles) and recently averaged 21.5 MPG on highway. Lots of usable space, cup holders galore and great seats that keep kids separated. First Honda vehicle owned but expect it to be as reliable as my Toyotas.
Great Van
First Honda ever purchased. Best vehicle ever owned. Over 100,000 miles and never been back to dealer for any problem. Still has original brake pads. Will buy another one.
