Well Built Fun to Drive Fit

I recently sold my 2005 CRV since my wife and I had 2 SUVs, and we decided to downsize to 1 SUV (and be a little bit economical) so we went with the Fit.Prior to the CRV I had a 1999 Mazda Miata which handled incredibly.I test drove the Nissan Versa, since we wanted a compact 4 door, but in the meantime I had a deposit on the Fit.So it was between the Versa(drove nice also)and the Fit.My wife was impressed by the size of the interior of the Fit, which she noted that it did not feel much smaller than the CRV, deceptive interior size. The steering and feel on the road reminded me of being in the Miata, however with much more interior room.I know why the dealers can't keep them on their lots.

I really have only one major complaint: the automatic transmission. It lurches and bucks on acceleration. Also, when braking or coasting to a stop, something under there is helping me stop. It is called the "engine braking system." In theory, I suppose it's a good thing. But it is very annoying. It makes the car surge when it upshifts. I feel like I am losing control. I'm very disappointed with this little bucking bronco. Otherwise the car is great! Great features (stereo), great handling. Good performance once I get it up to highway speeds. The gas mileage is a little disappointing. I get 28 to 32 mpg. Was hoping for mid 30s. Wish I had waited for a 5-speed manual.

Downsized CRV = + mileage+comfort+quiet

Average 35 mpg for 2500 miles - 500 mile round trip to Cape Cod, 38 mpg - best, 41.5 200 round trip to Catskills - very comfortable, lots of interior passenger and storage room - quieter than 2003 CRV - automatic can be driven like a sedate sedan or a corvette with "paddles" for instant shifting - steering is digital, extremely accurate - no fatigue after long trips - outstanding radio with 200 watt amps., direct connection for IPod, satellite radio, etc. - note: 6 speakers, not 6 CD player featured - front seat atop gas tank gives good visibility (but no reference frame in front when parking, can easily override curb - do it once and you remember to back off !) - It fits !!!!!

This car is the first new car me and my wife have ever had. The thing that sold us on it was the interior size and fuel economy, but as we drive it everything else started to blend right in. The way the car rides - the power of it's Vtec engine - the look of the dash board lights at night - The looks we get. Overall this is the best car we ever owned.

We have now owned our Fit for 14 months and are very pleased with it. Sold our 2004 CR-V, which about 21 mpg, and purchased the Fit. This is my wife's car and she absolutely loves the Vivid Blue color. Her driving is about 50/50 city/highway and she averages about 33 mpg AND SHE DRIVES WITH A LEAD FOOT. No mechanical problems to date. We love it.

Cute car, good throttle response. Very weak engine on just rolling hills - always downshifting. Car would be hell to drive in mountainous terrain. Have no idea why Honda did not and does not swap this 1.5L for the Civic 1.8L. Increase HP from 109 to 140 with better gas mileage, engine would still fit. No brainer from my perspective. Have 3000 miles over the first month, and have been getting 28- 30 in 50/50 city/highway driving. Terrible, should be getting at least 34 and on straight highway at least 37 MPG. Message boards do seem to vary a lot on the mileage reports. Honda, why can't a 2600 pound car get 35+ for mileage when my 2003 Civic averages 33mpg city and 36mpg highway.

This is an excellent small car..and bigger than you think. Usual excellent Honda quality. Mileage is ok.. around 33mpg... its so so practical, and great fun to drive. I've seen criticsm of automatic lag... but I don't have any problems. Also, the aftermarket foot rests and armrest are very easy to install.. I bought the ipod connection but am disappointed, its very difficult to use and doesn't use the display very well. The sound system is excellent.. I just use mp3's.

The first three days we had our Fit we put over 400 miles on it. The Fit is comfortable during trips with its "refreach mode". The paddle shifters are a lot of fun when you want to play with the road. The Fit is solid. When you close the doors, hatch or even the glove box you get a nice solid thump. The view of the road is clear with the Fit's low dash style.

I finally found the car of my dreams, or so I thought. Not exactly. I still haven't quite figured out how to use the paddles and when I do, the car seems to buckle and surge. One major problem, which I did not think of, the front of the Sport is very, very low. I live in the Northeast region. If we get a lot of snow in the winter, I will have to get out and shovel the car snow in order to move forward.

We live in northern NY and for the last couple of winters have put some very aggressive snow tires on. It's a tank. Easily beats big SUVs off the line at snowy/icy stop lights. (Yeah, cheap thrill, I know.) Interior room is amazing. Only complaint is the seats are painful to sit in for much more than a couple hours at a time.

Fresh out of college and being an entrepreneur, I needed a lot of room to lugging equipment as well as something that was economical to run. After looking at the Yaris (yawn), Caliber and versa (which was my second choice) I decided on the Honda Fit. Loads of cargo space and awesome gas mileage had me sold. the build quality is awesome and it is incredibly fun to drive! (By the way, I'm a personal trainer so the Fit was a perfect name!)

Each time I drive away in my li'l Fit, I feel as though I'm in on a well-kept, wonderful secret! This tiny car delivers in every way. I researched a lot before purchasing and am so glad that I didn't spend 10k extra on the alternatives. No need. The interior is spacious with great flexibility. On level ground, pick-up is good though not so hot on hilly terrain. Large windows are nice, however interior heats up a LOT when parked. Cargo room is fantastic. This car is very zippy and loads of fun to drive. The price point makes it a real winner, especially given Honda's great reliability and safety crash ratings. The Fit is guilt-free, fun driving at its best!

One tank last the trip there/back and then some. Fuel light came on @ 398 miles! It's fun to drive handles well on all driving conditions. I love this car!

I love my Fit! Her name is Phoebe, because her color is Lunar Mist, and I decided that she should have a lunar name, so she is named after Saturn's 18th moon - Phoebe. Took a drive to friends, who live over 150 miles from me, and Phoebe got just under 43 MPG round trip! Called my mechanic to find out if this is possible. He said yes. I love this little car, and I couldn't be happier with it. If you are looking to get a great small car, you will not be disappointed.

Had the car since April, with two highway round trips of 400-600 miles. Mostly driven around town. I've never gotten below 33 and never above 37 with regular unleaded gas. Hauled 20 bags of mulch with seats folded up, hauled 3 golfers and all golf gear also, with one seat folded down. Haven't needed to fully fold down the front seat to get 6-8 feet of length. Good sound system. Everything has been easy to use. Good pick-up and consistency from engine, in any gear.

Incredibly comfortable interior. I fit an enormous dryer in the back by putting the back seats down! It may look small, but it's HUGE inside. It's fun to drive, especially with a standard transmission, and feels completely in your control. A great value- fantastic fuel economy. Sporty, useful, adorable, fun! This is my second car. The Fit is fun to drive and I know it will last for years!

I live in the desert, so I always have the air on this car is a lot less peppy with the air on. The gas mileage suffers by about 7 hwy. MPG and 5 city MPG with the 5 speed manual having the air on. I think this car would be much better with a 6 speed transmission, on the Hwy. at 80 it is running at 4,800 rpm's in 5th gear. The gas mileage is still great just not as great as I had dreamed about.

I have had this car for only a mere 2 weeks now, but am absolutely in love. It handles like a dream and has enough get-up-and-go to excite most people (in spite of having a mere 109 horsies under the hood). Fabulous purchase for the the money--I was able to purchase an economy car without feeling like I was sacrificing. My boyfriend and I also own a Toyota RAV4 and have actually been quibbling about who gets to drive the Fit. It's suprisingly spacious. My boyfriend is 6'2" and has plenty of space, driving or otherwise.

Everything you touch in the Fit feels more like Acura than economy car. You won't feel like you have a 'cheap' car. The car handles brilliantly, accelerates very well and is fun to drive. Holds cargo behind the seats like an SUV (capacity rated nearly identical to the Honda Element) and gets 30-35 MPG. It's smaller than a lot of cars out there but all the airbags and the excellent crash test results are comforting. Its strong chassis does not bang and thud over rough pavement like some of its competition. A little more expensive than much of its competition (not so much when comparably equipped) but worlds better! We love this car!

Great Interior room, (my truck sits idle now that my fit will carry all but the largest and dirtiest stuff). Decently built for the price and tons of safety features for the kids and myself. We have 34,000 miles, car has been back to dealer for service, any time the computer hit 20%. At this mileage we have to replace 4 tires and were told WE HAVE TO CHANGE ALL THE FLUIDS AND FILTERS AT A COST OF $490.00. This will be repeated or higher cost every 30,000 miles. My old Mitsubishi with 170,000 miles did not cost me this much. We are considering trading.

Read about how great the handling, space utilization and build quality in this car before I bought it. Was concerned about acceleration and design/features being dated. Car has met or exceeded my expectations in everything, is fun to drive, and I would recommend it to others looking for a good car in this price range. Also own a 2006 Civic which is a more recent design and wish some of the features (steering wheel radio controls, better road vibration isolation, sunroof, ULEV engine, better dash layout, and better soundproofing) were incorporated into the FIT. Overall, the Fit is a fine car and I have no regrets on my purchase.

Bought a slightly used Fit Sport with 6400 miles on it Sept '07. I really like it, drives a bit different than my old '94 Camry Wagon, probably shorter wheel base and better suspension is the reason. The Fit is actually peppier and handles better than any car I've owned except my Old RX-7. It fits 4 adults easily, holds a full grocery cart of stuff behind the back seat without any hassle. I love the various seat configurations. nearly as much cargo room as the Camry Wagon had with easy access. Interior & exterior quality are top choice, but seats could be a bit better.

After 3 years and 25k miles, I haven't had to change a thing, not even the windshield wiper rubber! It lives up to the Honda reputation. Ample room and flexible seat arrangements allows you to carry big or long items, saving the cost of buying a truck. Its headroom is larger than most SUV and midsize cars.

We have had no trouble with the car and would recommend it to anyone looking for a small car with great versatility.

It has great pick-up on flat terrain, and the most standard features in its price range, not to mention the infamous Honda reliability. It holds a vast amount of cargo, and the mileage is far superior to any SUV. Who needs to spend $10k more-for what? You can drive away with no guilt, given that kind of savings, and you're making a better choice for the environment to boot. This car is responsive, fun to drive, and feels solid. Nice little car. I bought an AT Sport maybe should have waited for a MT Sport. The transmission consistently hunts at highway speeds (70-80mph) at any hint of an incline. The gas tank under the driver's seat encroaches on legroom. Excellent interior as well as handling and braking. MPG has been okay: 32-36. The 1.5L is not a typical Honda 4 cylinder, very coarse at high rpm (>4000rpm).

I bought this car for these reasons: 1. Usability & Cargo room: I sold a Subaru Outback that sometimes had trouble fitting long items. I've been redoing our basement, and carrying 8' lumber in the back of the Fit. Beat that! 2. Fuel economy: I'm getting 300 miles between fill-ups right now and I figure with about 2 gallons left in the tank. All in all about 34-37 mpg. 3. Performance: This car takes corners like a cork in a pinball machine. Amazing, amazing handling. What it lacks in HP it makes up for in responsiveness. 4. Looks: I got the Sport model in Blaze Orange. Yeah baby. What a beautiful car it is to look at. 5. mp3 input/mp3 CD player. What did you expect, a cassette deck?

This little car has lots of interior room. Gets great gas mileage. But I am giving it a poor review. The paddles that are position behind the steering wheel (used for standard transmission) will engage if you are driving in automatic at lets say 70 miles per hour. I accidentally tapped it when I used the turn signal and the car down shifted and went into standard mode. The car immedialty slowed while the engine reved up. I was terrified! It goes back into automatic after a few seconds but that long enough to cause an accident.

I am in the military and I use this little car for every bit of versatility you could imagine. I can easily haul 4 (yes 4) 200lb co-workers around with me and have no noticable drag on the engine. It is an energetic car that that reminds you it can be fun to just go for a drive. I have used 2 tanks of fuel with a real world combined Hwy/city driving mileage of 35mpg. The stereo sound superb; deep roomy glove compartment; every control easily reached from the drivers sitting position; friends compliment of how much leg room is in the back seats and one of my taller friends even was amazed to get in the back seat and have plenty of head and leg room. More than the front seat of his car :-)

I had this car for 2 years and have put 20,000 miles on it. It haven't had any problem except for 2 very minor issues, such as rear window wiper cable disconnection. Those are easy fix. Best looking and mileage among all sub-compact cars. Honda builds great cars and manages their service shops very well. This is my 3rd post on this car for Edmunds.

32k miles - used LESS than 1000 gallons of gas, have a tad over 33.43 mpg on a 1000 mile trip. NO problems at all. Only complaint, tires will need replacing in the next month or two. Magic seats are great. Glad I bought one.
