Went into dealer to buy an Odyssey

Went into dealer intending to buy an Odyssey. We both decided that as an everyday vehicle it was too large. The CR-V was just about right. I traded an Acura RDX so this felt just like home. My only two complaints are lethargic acceleration and a noisy engine.

major flaw/fuel in oil in 2018....be careful

there is a history of these cars having an issue with oil dilution/fuel in the oil resulting in the oil reservoir being overfilled. this issue started on my 2018 at 2600 miles. My dealership has been awesome in trying to take care of this issue. Honda Corp had a software update for the northern states, this was performed on my car in Dec. 2 weeks ago I had a strong fuel smell in my cabin (I thought I smelled it in January but ignored it because I had just had the software update/fix and was trying to be optimistic, and definitely had fuel in my oil which had caused it to be overfilled....again. unfortunately, my dealership was not authorized to do anything for me per Honda Corp and the lady I spoke with at Honda Corp was condescending and rude. Since that phone call, my dealership has intervened and have spoken to their district service manager. I had my pcv replaced along with my fuel injectors and every filter including cabin. I just got the car back yesterday and am holding my breath. I truly love this car and previously owned a 2010 that I drove for 195,000 miles without any issues. if you google Honda crv oil dilution you will see what a widespread problem this is. China actually stopped manufacturing the CRV for over 3 months due to this issue and Honda Canada has extended the warranty to 6 years with no mileage limit.....I am sure they know the engines can't possibly last as long with this ongoing issue. it is very frustrating to say the least. I have filed a complaint with my state attorney general and they encouraged me to file a lemon law dispute. So, be mindful and check your oil often. I have never gone longer than 3000 miles between oil changes....

There are a number of reviews raving about this car: spacious, reliable, and excellent value. Like others, the CR-V has never been in my shopping list until this year. The strongest point for us is the value with the various active safety features being standard above the base model. Well I wanted a safe car for my kids to drive rather than my old 2002 MB, these young kids just don’t seem to like to drive; they lack experience or navigation capabilities without the phone’s GPS. So I got a great end of year deal on EX-L, really needed only the EX. The interior is very nice. I’ve been driving it while the kids are away at college instead of my old MB. This car drives nice although it does not have the quality finish of the luxury car - (inside lower plastic panels seems cheap, brake pedal and shifter has a clunking sound when using it,) but what do you expect for tens of thousands dollars cheaper. But for its class, I really enjoy this car. Now to provide some slight disappointments: the gas mileage was slight lower than expected for highway, it’s hard to get more than 29 mpg, mixed is always high 27. (The weather is still cold, maybe it will get better, but Edmunds long term review supports this comment.) Worse, when I drive slightly past the low fuel light, the tank is a small 11 gallon, so I fill the tank more often than I like. My wife’s diesel X3 easily gets about 37 mpg when I get 28 for the same mix driving conditions. But in the end, the mileage is not bad. Now for the tech, I often have USB problems with Apple Play. (Edmunds long term stated a problem once with Android Play.) I have to unplug the USB and plug it back to work. (My friend’s 2018 Camry USB doesn’t work at all, while my wife’s X3 USB randomly drops out and the car has to be turned off to get working again. So I seen a number of USB issues on different cars with different phone and cables.) The full speed dynamic cruise control really works great, it can avoid collisions when rubber necking or if you momentarily get distracted. It would stop the car completely and can resume from standstill. I most hit the brake when someone cuts into my lane very close to me. The keep in lane, not to be confused with lane departure, works nice in mostly straight roads. The two makes long trips nice and safe. The big disappointment is the speed that the lane departure and keep in lane works, above 45 mph. This is very high, this eliminates most roads except highways. Most cars including Toyota works at lower speeds, Toyota is above 32 mph. So, it won’t protect kids or folks being out too late and dozing off on the country roads. According to the manual, if you cross over a solid line and it was not able to get you back in lane, it will hit the brakes, cool. The rear side cross traffic and blind spot works great. I have not experience the front collision avoidance thankfully, but can say the hit the brake light comes on prematurely even when I’m decelerating. This is in contrast to Toyota that almost never alerts you. I don’t find the alert distracting, especially when I want this for my kids. In conclusion, I really like this car, to the point where I wonder if it’s better to get two new cars like this or keep a luxury car for 16 years? This car has more standard tech than my wife car for so much more money. The details are slightly lacking, but once you are sitting inside and driving, you almost forget you are driving a, god forgive, CR-V.
