Good little SUV
I've had my CRV for 4 1/2 years & have never had any problems. It has been a great car for me but I have outgrown it & plan to purchase a new Pilot. I think this would be a very reliable used car.
Excellent SUV
I have my SUV for 1.5 years already, this baby never gave me any problems ! Also it's fun to drive it with a stick.

Tom on the CRV
The CRV was our first SUV and Honda experience. As far as this class goes, the CRV is exemplary in that it combines much of the best of both world: car-like manners and comfort with enough off-road capabilities for most camping and hiking trips. (Note that it emphatically will not do the Paris to Dakkar rally...) Reliability and build quality are wonderful. With 60k miles, the car has required two non-routine maintainence repairs: a loose gasket on the rear license plate holder and a rear diff oil change. The car still has the original brakes and needed only one set of tires. Not a rattle or squeak to be heard.
1998 CR-V
We absolutely love our CR-V. We have always had great luck with Honda anyway. We like the manual transmision and found this very fun to drive. We did test drive the Toyota 4-Runner and there was no comparison. The Honda was better built, had more room (3 seat belts in the back), and hey ! it has the folding picnic table! What great use of space ! :-) Being able to drive and get gas mileage of a car but the versatility of a SUV without looking like a mini-van-- this is great!
Security
It is very strong vehicule. The heart is strong enough to support 3 big impact in 3 years without driver injuries or internal damage of the car. Just plastic and exterior damages.
One more thing
I forgot to add in my previous review that there is air noise in the cabin. That was the main reason I wanted to write the review! It is a little too noisy as compared to the Honda Accord.
Nearly Flawless
The only unexpected incident, a whining noise from the rear diff when doing a u-turn, was fixed by changing the oil in the rear diff. Mileage on this 5-spd has been better than expected. City has averaged 26mpg. Hwy mileage is another story, it really fluctuates with speed, as low as 22mpg driving a steady 85mph across Montana, to a high of 31mpg driving 50-55mph along the Oregon coast. Typical 65-70mph cruising yields 28mpg. Off-road ability isn't bad, but lack of ground clearance and any low-range gearing really limits your options. Replacing the stock tires was the biggest help off-road. Can't be beat in the snow & ice.
Versatile vehicle
I have been very satisfied with my CRV. I love the size of the door openings and don't need to bend my head for entry. It feels as though you can walk into the car for seating. Gives you a great view of the road and seats give good back support. Back seat passengers are very comfortable. Great when roads are slippery. Use the fold down seat option often. I am having trouble deciding rather to buy out my lease. or if I should new CRV.
CR-V is a top car
I bought my CR-V less than a year ago, have put over 13,000 miles on it, and have had no problems at all. It has been terrific in bad weather, and the real time 4WD is great for fuel economy, since it is 2WD unless it needs the 4WD. I would recommend to anyone, no matter why they are getting a car.
Still Going Strong
I've put 103K miles on this baby in just 4 1/2 years, and it still rides new. First set of tires lasted 80K. First major check-up at 90K. Only problem were brakes - never buy aftermarket brake parts. Went back to Honda parts and have had no problems since. Giving up my Civic wasn't a problem, because it still felt like one, only better. The new look doesn't appeal to me. The original square design looks tougher.
honda
Perfect vehicle. Workes flawlessly around town or on the beach. No engine problems.Minor dent and very small scratches on top. Otherwise perfect.
Great car
Honda CR-V is a great car. I had very good expiriance driving it over last 4.5 years. I would and will consder replacing it with same model. Very reliable. I once drove this car across 23 states from Canada to Mexico and back during the summer heat, loaded to the roof with camping equipment. Always reliable !!!
Good Dependable Car
I love my honda crv, I think it is the best car to fit my needs. I can haul anything that I can lift up into it. I call it my truck car.I would like to sell it to my daughter and get me a new crv because she needs a dependable car. I put new Michilin tires on it.
Honda lives up to its name
This is a very very very good brand of autos, I was looking for an Expedition for about $10 K, but ran into a CRV, drove it and loved it...got it with 100000 miles now 126000 not one problem replaced the brake pads and oil changes this Honda looks and drives like new, I bet I can get well over 200000 miles we will see.
CRV Evaluation
The CRV is not a true off road rig. But as a winter vehicle for northern climes, it can't be beat. Fairly godd AWD. Adequate power. Always starts in below 30 temperatures. Good visibility and above average handling in slippery conditions. I really like it. Last vehicle was an AWD Ford Aerostar van.
awsome car!!
i love it best car i had in my life!!
I love it!
My husband calls this (affectionately) the "gutless wonder." It is underpowered but on my 110-mile commute on hilly, country roads, I don't have a chance to pass anyone! It handles superbly. The reliability is fantastic. The only car I have ever owned with 0 defects on purchase. It still has no mechanical problems. I've been in two fender benders (including hitting a mule at 35+ mph) but no structual damage. I won't swap it for my husband's 2002 CRV!
Love My CRV
I love my CRV, it fits my lifestyle and I couldn't be happier with it.
Died in the middle of the street!
I drove a CRV automatic for about 50K miles. It died in the middle of the street when I was attempting to accelerate repeatedly. The warranty was still in place but I was told the warranty was voided because we could not show documentation of the oil change schedule. Then the service technicians told us that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle despite the fact that it died repeatedly. I traded it and won't buy another Honda.
Great car
This is an exceptionally versatile car. I have the economy 4WD, so the comfort level is utilitarian, but that's all I wanted, really. This is the car I use for DYI projects and going back and forth to work. The 4 cyl engine is perky, but weak on the steep hills, but the mileage (22/city) makes up for it. It is the only SUV with a wheelbase that actually looks stable.
Good reliable stuff
I often leave my CRV sitting for a week without driving. I call it my car that sits well. It always starts without a murmer. It's been very reliable, no maintenace except regular oil and filter changes. Brakes are excellent, tires and balance excellent - I do mostly highway driving and once it gets to 65, it has to be kept in check. If it ever gets old, I'll buy another CRV.
a great little SUV
Not a luxury car, of course, but nice if you're looking for great reliability and some additional cargo room... without guzzling tons of gas.
Best Car Ever
I love my CR-V and am considering getting a new one. It has been 100% reliable and the best car I've ever owned even after 165k miles.
1998 Honda CR-V Definitely A Great Buy!
I just got this car no long ago. Was driving a Lexus LS 400 and Toyota 4- Runner but they were both gas guzzlers. Started to look for something more fuel- efficient without compromising the reliability, design, and fun and voila! Got this used 1998 Honda CR-V (still looks and drives great!) and is loving it!
My CR-V
Excellent gas mileage. Good ride. Could be more quiet.. Good in snow. Great for hauling stuff. Could be more comfortable on long trips
Woefully underpowered
At 126 horsepower you better live in an area where there aren't any hills! I live in WNY, in the Allegany Highlands and climbing the hills around here it sounds like the car is going to blow-up. Also, I am only averaging 20 MPG which for a 4 cylinder is horrible. When it rain the ABS light stays on until it dries out. No arm rest for the front passenger. For the top-of-the-line model the seats are not very comfortable. Fogs up inside during the winter or wet weather. Latch to open the back gate rusts up all the time due to poor location and design. Very disappointed for being a Honda.
My first Honda product
This is my first Honda, it has 110,000 miles on it. Overall it exudes quality. Dependability and reliability seem to be its genetics. There are some downsides to it, but because of the many sterling other qualities, I can easily overlook those poor ones. First the seats are abysmal-they are the worst feature in the entire package. Second the engine is way too noisy, third, the transmission shifts weird and is unacceptable, but bulletproof I am sure. As for driveability and repairs. Love it, no problems, probably won't be any. I would buy another, hopefully the seats are right and transmission and engine are smoother and quieter in future models.
Awesome car!
I love this car! It looks good, good gas mileage, quiet and being a honda I know it is reliable! It has side impact bars and front and rear crumple zones, which makes it pretty safe for me and my 2 year old! I would recommend to any small family!
I'll only be buying Honda in the future
I love my 156,000 mile 9 year old CRV. I bought this car at 75,000 miles 4 years ago and have not had to spend any money on repairs. My only expenditures have been oil changes and a mileage based water pump/timing belt replacement. I would recommend the CRV to anyone. We are tentatively looking to replace my CRV with a new 2007 body style with nicer interior amenities, but I don't know if I'm ready to give this one up yet.
underpowered
not very comfortable, underpowered, and poor radio system, however, built like a honda and will last forever!!
Honda review
