Former Acura TSX Owner

Dan S, 12/26/2016
2017 Honda Civic EX-L 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

My beloved 6-speed manual transmission TSX was over nine years old and enough little things were going wrong with it that it was time for a new car. With a house to remodel and kids in extracurricular activities I couldn't afford a luxury (or even sorta-luxury) performance sedan. So I was looking for a practical, reliable commuter car with an automatic transmission I could hand off to my daughter in 5 years when it's paid off and she's 16. Being a Honda/Toyota guy this made me think about a Civic. I got the EX-L since I could at least get a nicer Civic in my price range. I was expecting a major step down from my TSX, but this Civic (which I viewed as a necessity/compromise and wasn't really excited to purchase) has slowly been impressing me. In Eco mode it's the gutless wonder you expect a Civic to be but if you really stomp on the gas or take it out of Eco mode or even put it in sport mode that combination of 1.5L turbo and CVT transmission make it go right now. The 6-speed stick shift was one of my favorite things about my TSX but this Civic always seems to be in the right gear and I don't notice any clunky downshifting or lag when I press the gas. Handling is good (Honda always does that better than Toyota IMO) but then of course that makes for a rougher ride. I drove on an old patch of the 57 and got shaken and stirred. That's when you know you're in a Civic the most. The interior is pretty nice. I'm 6'2" and I fit OK but to get the most out of the legroom I have to crank the back of the seat all the way down because it goes down and back at the same time. So I pretty much have to fall down into the seat. In the end I think I'll miss my TSX's driver's seat the most, especially it's lumbar support. Sitting so low is made up for by the excellent rear-view camera and right-mirror camera. I'm using Android Auto with the Civic and the Navi is GREAT, so don't shell out extra for Honda's navi. Google Play Music found my music and playlists on my phone with no work from me but it doesn't play my podcasts. It seems like it's possible, but I haven't figured it out yet (I used Rocket Player and Doggcatcher before but Android Auto won't "channel" them through the car). Speaking of music, I'm iffy on the stereo system. The Civic has lots of speakers and very clear sound but not much oomph on the low end. I've turned down the treble, turned up the bass and shifted the balance rearward but it's still not as good as default settings were on my TSX. Interior storage cubbies are weird but plentiful. There's room for your cups, phone, sunglasses, gum, etc. but it may be down a cave and around a corner and a little dangerous to try to get at while you are driving. Overall I like this car. It doesn't come with a lot of bragging rights (I'm a 42-year old family man, though... In my twenties I probably would have been a LOT more proud of it) but my wife really likes having a fun-to-drive car back in the family for her (she doesn't drive stick and our other car is a minivan) and the best compliment I can give this Civic is that given its relative comfort (as long as my youngest can still fit behind me) and WAY better gas mileage than the minivan, it has become the weekend family commuter car, so long as we're not going to Costco or Home Depot. I wasn't expecting that to happen. I thought the Civic would be too small and too dull to want to drive any more than necessary but it has turned out to be a great not-so-little family car and it's getting lots of use. Two end notes: 1. Sorry this review has no paragraph breaks, the online form is not allowing me to hit enter. 2. Gas mileage includes driving over hills to work every day.

I have a 2007 Honda Civic. I researched the 2017 Hatchback before purchase. I've had it for a few days and love it! It feels solid and surprisingly the acceleration has pep! I'm not computer savvy but have been able to navigate the computer controls and settings with ease. I got the EX model. Just don't get suckered in at the dealer! Read Edmunds advice on B.S. Fees at the dealer and other new car buying advice. Also don't go over 3% of invoice price! If the dealer doesn't want to negotiate go to another one. I'm a female and went in on my own and told them exactly what I would pay and not pay. I was firm and they knew it. I got my new Hatchback with the price I wanted to pay!

2017 Honda Civic LX Sedan 6sp Manual

So far I have put on 1100 plus miles and have no complaints. The car handles well and is roomy (I'm 6'2") with plenty of space for passengers. I think the price I paid was fair and I would do business with my dealer again. Lots of cargo room too. The 6sp manual transmission is quick and responsive and fun to drive. Update: so now I have put close to 7500 miles on the Honda without any problems. It has snowed several times and my Civic handles it great. Using full synthetic oil means I still have 30% of oil life left at 7500 miles. One complaint is that after getting a car wash (power wash) my capless gas door got water inside and froze shut. I did not notice this until I needed gas. I had to force the gas nozzle into my tank. No damage and I have not had any additional problems with it once the weather warmed. Overall, I am still very happy with my Honda Civic and would but it again. Update: I now have 13,500 miles and have no complaints. Everything is working great and nothing has failed. After thinking about my one complaint about the gas door, I think it was because of the type of car wash I went through, a high-pressure water wash. I think a normal wash will not have this issue. We will see this coming winter. Update: at 19800 miles I'm still not having any issues with my Civic. Everything works and I've had no issues. Update: at 41000 miles I'm not having any major issues with the Civic. The only thing that is a problem is the factory tires are not very good and slip in snow and wet conditions. I plan on getting a new brand before winter 2020 and hopefully get better results. Update: 55,000 miles and the car is running strong. I did get new tires about 9 months ago and it performs better but still has problems in heavy rain or snow. Otherwise, everything is tip-top. I may just have to get snow tires in the winter. Update: Just hit 70,000 miles and have not had any major issues. Replaced the battery about 2 years ago. Maybe at 55,000 miles. Not because it died just a dealer test / recommendation. The car still sucks in the rain or snow, but you just have to slow down. I haven't had to put any big money into it. Still on my original brakes. Still fun to drive. Would buy it again. Funny how it was "worth" $17,300 a couple of months ago but that's just the current market. Update: 76,500 miles. No issues. Would buy it again. Still have the original brakes. Update: 97,000 miles. Very loud road noise and vibration. might need bearings. Still bad in the rain and snow. No big issues.

Honda's Winner

2017 Honda Civic LX 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6M)

Great car with euro styling not a typical boring japanese style of the past models, fun to drive, relatively quiet inside, lots of features even on base LX model. Handsfree blutooth phone connection works well with most phones including older generation LG G2, even budget Blu phones. I like the smaller screen on the LX model and has everything I would need and is easy to navigate plus it has good 'ole dials for selection and volume control which is what I prefer instead of ackward touch screen volume control on upper models. I am 6'2" and there is plenty of leg room in front and in back seats. Very good size trunk also. Acceleration is more than plenty with one or two people on board, with four adults however you can feel a slowdown. Blind spot visibility may take a week or so of getting used to due to sloping rear coupe type shape especially if you are coming from more boxy sedan designs. My MPG is roughly around 29mpg but I drive over 90% city and like zippier acceleration more often than not. With Econ mode turned on I tested and was getting 33-34mpg in city which is pretty good. On freeway it can easily do 40-43mpg.

The 2017 EX-T Manual is a fun to drive car!

This is a great car! I prefer a manual transmission, and I was happy to see that it was available in a middle of the line vehicle. I test drove a CVT version of EX-T and I liked it. I told the dealer I'd prefer a manual and they located one for me. When I got to drive the manual version, it felt much lighter, and felt like it had a lot more power than the CVT version! It snowed in my area the day after I purchased the vehicle and this car did great in the snow and ice without traction devices! I think that the manual transmission gives me a lot more control and that with front wheel drive really helps in snow/ice conditions. I am impressed with the interior of the car, the controls, and the information/entertainment display. I use Andriod Auto and that allows me to use Google Maps on the cars display, use Pandora or other apps, take/make phone calls, get weather reports, and other information through my phone on the car's display, or with automated voice! I really like the camera mounted on the passenger side mirror, when I turn on the right turn signal the camera shows me what's on that side of the car eliminating any blind spot! I highly recommend this car, I think the EX-T is the best value in the Civic line, and I would buy it again! Accessories I got include All season floor mats, 2 cargo hooks, trunk tray, body side molding, wheel locks, illuminated interior, and rear bumper applique. Update: I have had the car for almost 7 months now, and I still give the car 5 stars! I use it as a daily driver, and I have taken it on a few vacation road trips. One of them was more than 500 miles each way. It did great through the desert, the mountains, and everything in between. I would buy this car again. If you are looking for a economy sedan that's fun to drive (especially the manual transmission version) , this might be exactly what you're looking for! Update: I have had the car for almost 19 months now, and I again give the car 5 stars! I still use it as a daily driver, and I would buy the car again. Highly recommended!

Still The Right Car

After seven and a half years and nearly 90,000 miles, my initial review remains unchanged. This has certainly been the right car. My 17 year old son is now the proud owner and daily driver. While I'd say nothing about it is perfect, virtually everything is Still good to great. Truly exemplifies the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. The best features are the outstanding economy (best mileage to date was a pure highway trip that averaged over 52 mpg by driving a little under the 70 mph speed limit) with surprising performance when you need/want it. In addition, Only repair issues to date have been A/C -related and occurred well beyond the warranty expiration. Honda stepped up and reimbursed the first issue which was a condenser failure. I’m waiting to see if they will reimburse me for the last issue. Great car, great company so far.

I have owned the Touring model for one month and use it for a weekly commute of 145 miles each way. I have enjoyed every mile. Great car to own and I have been driving for over 42 years. Owned a lot of different sport and luxury cars over the years and this is a nice combo of both. The Touring model is a few thousand more, but if I would not have purchased the Touring model, I would have always regretted it later. So far averaging 42 miles per gallon (as advertised), with a bit of a heavy foot... fun to take to the mountains (I live an hour west of Lake Tahoe) in Sport mode, but for my commute I use the Econ setting. Highly Recommend. Enjoy......

Four Civic Lessons

2017 Honda Civic EX 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl CVT)

We, my wife and I have always drove Hondas. This is our fourth iteration of the Civic. Test drove the EX-T 1.5L Turbo and the one we settled on was the 2.0 EX Sedan. To tell you the truth, not a huge difference in acceleration and performance between the 1.5T and 2.0. Just a 1mpg difference between the two engines. The 2.0 accelerates well from a stop as well as on the freeway and passing maneuvers. Never worried about merging with traffic, CVT performs well and always in the correct ratio when needed. Even in ECO mode, performance is diminished some, but transmission/engine will engage when needed for passing etc. The 7.0" Center Dash Digital Display takes a while to understand. A little slow on input response, but works fine. Cloth interior on center console, and armrests etc. gets soiled very easily and material feels a bit flimsy. Not sure how well it will hold up, time will tell. From our first CVCC, to our 1988, then 2002, to our current 2017. Lesson learned, always stick with an reliable, well engineered car! Wife loves it...oh btw, we purchased the white orchid pearl color, nice...

Gizmo the Gremlin, 1 year later

I'm glad I bought this car! I like all the gizmos (such as keyless entry, pushbutton start, brake assist, auto parking brake, hands free cell phone, ECO mode, backup camera, & more. . ). My old car was 10 yrs old - a lot has happened in 10 years! The car's handling can be described in one word - NIMBLE! My mileage is great - a couple of 36.5 readings (Mostly city). I just got back from a highway trip -Denver - Glenwood Springs CO. I got 44MPG!! I used only Drive and Drive with ECO button engaged, and used a light foot on the gas pedal. The main reason I bought the car was for mileage, and I didn't want a hybrid. I'll report again when I use more Sport mode and see what mileage penalty there is. One year later - I got 43mpg to Albuquerque in Drive - no Eco mode (Eco mode on freeway driving lacks power). I continue to get great mileage in town - 35 - 39 mpg, where I'm mostly using Eco mode. I haven't used Sport mode much - pickup in D is more than adequate.

I love love the my hatchback sport civic. Until about 3500 miles - the check engine light popped up and disabled all the safety features - ABS, parking breaks, etc. Brought to the dealership - was told that IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT THE GAS MIXES WITH THE OIL. There are no current fixes. I was told to wait until they find a solution. All they did was turn off the warning and told to observe it. WHAT?? Observe the gas mixing with the oil?? I'm currently in the process of contacting a lawyer. This is unacceptable. Take your money elsewhere until they fix this.

My 2017 Civic Sedan Touring (Cosmic Blue) -sr

I purchased my 2017 Civic Sedan over 3 weeks ago and I am overall very happy with the car. I even saw the new 2017 BMW 330xi and I consider my 2017 Honda Civic Sedan better inside (the BMW seemed dated and disjointed in location of the infotainment pad, etc). The cosmic blue with gray interior really looks nice, almost a gunmetal blue-gray look to it. Good acceleration, smooth ride, good safety options (including anti collision etc) are only a few of the features that I like the most. Yes, the anti collision warnings can be a little excessive but better to hear a warning than have an accident. The right side blind spot camera is nice as well. Even the remote auto start as well as walkaway lock where the car automatically locks itself when I walk more than 4-5 feet away with the key fob, are very nice options. Apple Car play is my favorite infotainment option and location of the pad is perfectly placed. The trunk seems a bit smaller than the 2010 Civic Sedan but not by much. For the price, you get a lot. I compare the comfort and options on par with Acura or BMW. Average fuel economy is in the 32-35 range for how I drive in traffic every day. Overall, this is definitely one of the nicest small/mid-size sedans you can buy. Sporty style but with the polished amenities of a luxury sedan.

2017 Honda Civic Type R - The Last Samurai?

Alec, 11/19/2017
2017 Honda Civic Type R 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 6M)
8 of 8 people found this review helpful

Perhaps the most fitting descriptor I could open with for the 2017 Honda Civic Type R is the millennial expression “extra”. The top Urban Dictionary definition for "extra" is “over the top, excessive, dramatic behavior, way too much”. The latest Type R’s looks are all of the above, but that is mostly where the new “extra” ends and the traditional, positive denotation begins. If you can look past or appreciate the peacocking aesthetics, the Civic Type R is an extra-special anachronism. On paper, this car looks like it came from a bygone era. But like many of it's hot Hondas ancestors, the Civic Type R's published 0-60 and 1/4 mile performance is deceiving and undersells an extremely fun to drive machine. While the segment’s other hottest hatchbacks come with all-wheel drive, Honda continues to redefine the limits of front-wheel propulsion. Early dyno tests reveal that the 2.0L turbo K20C1 engine was likely underrated at 306 hp, with readings as high as 295 wheel horsepower. Merging onto highways is an oddly similar experience to my stock C5 Corvette. Yes, the Chevrolet was roughly a full second faster in every rolling acceleration measure, and the Type R does have a hint of turbo lag, but the "R" also remains unflappably precise and planted as speeds rapidly approach reckless driving territory. Thanks to the brilliant dual-axis suspension and Continental tires, I have yet to notice more than the faintest wiggle of torque steer during flat-out corner exits in second gear. Offered only with a superb six-speed manual transmission and no optional equipment, the Type R is leaner than its cohorts, handling more like a ‘roided-up CRX than it’s 3117-pound curb weight would suggest. Selecting “+R” mode sets the shocks to their firmest damping and sharpens throttle sensitivity. Couple this mode with a fully-deactivated VSA system and the rear end will dance and oversteer out of lower to mid-speed turns. In high-speed cornering and braking abilities, I don't believe any new, unmodified car can hang with the Civic Type R below the $40,000 mark. However, this Porsche-like poise can be softened in “Sport” mode and brought back to Civic Touring levels in “Comfort” mode. Both the engine and exhaust notes are also highly subdued, no annoying drones on the highway. Admittedly, I am this car’s demographic bullseye buyer (32 year-old, middle class male) who got his driver's license in 2001, the year many of us first met Brian O’Conner and Dom Toretto. But putting my fanboy biases aside, the Civic Type R is a masterpiece. It is likely one of the last highly tactile, reasonably affordable “driver’s cars” Honda will produce thanks to market trends and harsher mandatory regulations every year. Thank you, Honda, for your latest -- and hopefully not last -- Samurai.

Slick and fast

2017 Honda Civic EX 4dr Sedan w/Honda Sensing (2.0L 4cyl CVT)
8 of 8 people found this review helpful

This car is amazing, safest vehicle on the road in crash safety ratings in its class. The sensing package is great for long distance driving adaptive cruise control lane keep assist. I can literally use my knees rested on steering wheel to drive the car on highway. Interior is nice. Now the flaws. Sensing has issues in heavy rain or snow. The headlights could be brighter. The wheel wells vs size of wheels. Seems that the wheels could of been a bit bigger. Handles like a dream though, touchy brakes make you feel safe. Trunk has adequate space with fold down seats. It's clean will turn heads. And get you compliments. Gas mileage varies on how you drive coming home from WV i achieved 41 plus on highway using cruise control. 2.0 liter has ample power and gas gage will drop when laying into gas. No e brake only a little electronic switch. Lots of add on a for interior available. If you tint the rear window it will become almost impossible to reverse without the back up camera at night. All in all though I love mine. No serious maintenance only routine oil changes. And whatever scheduled maintenance says.

2017 Honda Civic EX-T 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

First, it's a very nice looking car. The 1.5 turbo should be the standard engine, it's great. Seats are very comfortable compared to the Prius I came from. Handling is predictable but not extremely tight. Wish there were more choices for interior color, I'm not a huge fan of black interiors. My biggest disappointment is in Honda not providing more Honda Sensing versions of the EX-T. My dealer says he has no control over inventory. A search shows very few with Honda Sensing EX-T models. That being said, that is the model I wanted but ended up without it. Mileage is good ~38mpg. I'm disappointed in the stereo sound, cheap speakers in a $25k car is well.... cheap. The electronics are a bit confusing and layout seems odd, but I'll likely get used to it in time. Though the stereo/car settings have some pretty cool features. Wind noise is superb compared to my 3rd gen Prius. Warranty is miserable, warranty length defines confidence in their product. Transmission has a slight delay and then a thud when shifting into reverse. USB ports are a bit awkward to get to and I wish there were some for the rear seats. The clear film you can get for the nose and mirrors wasn't offered but it should be. We had an Accord that was a mess after four years. Simple things - I love auto up/down for both front windows, I like that I don't have to turn cruise control "on" each time I get in the car, I like manual seats, I also like heated seats. Overall, its the car I wanted in the price range it sits at. Others are close but this is the clear leader of the pack. Honda has some details they need to work out though to put away first place in my eyes.

2017 Honda Civic EX-L 4dr Hatchback w/Navigation (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

Along with most office people, my daily commute was eradicated during Covid. Around 78,000 miles, the AC condenser quit. Splendid! I had received an extended manufacturer warranty and my local dealer told me "No problem". After having it a day, they still said "no problem, it's covered". After another day, they advised the AC compressor also failed and none of it was under warranty. Needless to say, this experience soured me on the dealership and I have started doing my own maintenance. I'll use my hometown shop for anything that looks out of reach for me. Other than that, she finally cooked her brakes (I assume I got some rotor warping from sitting longer periods of time). I put new Michellins on also. I decided the stock continentals, although retaining awesome tread just wasn't what I was used to while driving in rain with my 2011 V6 Accord. The new ones have much more confidence in snow and rain. Power train has been flawless and so has the head unit/electronics. I want to hit 200,000 miles and I see no reason we won't make it. Previous 50,000 mile review: *Flawless. This EX-L Hatch with Navi has not had a single issue. I'm driving the wheels off it - except the Continentals' tread is still beautiful. I've had the windshield replaced due to a highway rock and I've installed an after-market stereo. I I used a Line Output Converter to keep the stock head unit/touchscreen and put a subwoofer approximately where the Sport Touring and Type R sneak it behind the rear wheel well. Other than that, it's the same as when I bought it. It seems the gas mileage has IMPROVED as the engine has been used. We've added 2 kids and a dog - The dog loves the hatch and the baby carseats weren't too hard to install with the LATCH positions in easy locations. It's an all-around no brainer. Great space. Torque off the line and always ready at highway speeds. Unbelievable gas mileage. I'd like the fun of having a stick but I'm probably better off with the CVT in traffic and balancing work calls through the Android Auto/bluetooth. A++++ I'm on track to hit 200,000 unless I get seduced by the rumored lower profile Type R that may be coming out in 2020.

Sleek & Stylish

2017 Honda Civic EX 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl CVT)

So far so good! I've had my 2017 Honda Civic EX for 3 months & 2 days. I now have 12,000 miles on my Civic. The gas mileage is amazing I literally get 44 mpg highway. I've drove to the city of Atlanta 3 times & I have to go back for a forth time in two weeks. The driver seat isn't totally confortable with no way to adjust the lumber bar. The steering wheel has the perfect balance. The screen in my EX model is easy to use & has the perfect sloped centered location. Apple CarPlay is good to have for navigation on the screen from your iPhone. Remote start came standard on my EX and I absolutely love it. Push button start is always a perk to have. Sometimes the CVT shifts at the wrong time which causes my Civic to jump when in stop in & go traffic at times. The daytime running lights are such a eye catcher. The Civic does sit low to the ground so having 4 average size adults would make the car weigh more to the ground. A full tank of gas says between 380-390 miles to E & a half tank says between190-200 miles to E. If you over fill the gas tank it will says between 430-460 miles to E. The 16 inch rims on my EX has a fresh looking appearance. Half the car is literally painted plastic & the other half is fiberglass. I typically drive on long stretch of highways minimum 40 miles one way to maximum 70 miles one way. So in one day I drive 80 miles to 140 miles on a highway.

Trumps luxury brands, even from Honda's own acura

You can get a great sound system with subwoofer (almost the same thing you get on ILX top ELS version), a powerful yet very efficient turbo engine that is both snappy and stingy on gas, great styling inside and outside, top tech including self steering that lets you take your hands off the steering wheel for a few good seconds even in a turn, adaptive cruise that takes the car to full stop and restart going in stop and go traffic. And apple and android car play that takes the entertainment system to another level. Can't find the same combination not in any luxury brand today.

I have high expectations when I buy vehicles and usually they are met or over time I find short comings. Overall I can't fault anything in this car. I replaced a 06 BMW 325i and other than giving up a little handling, steering feel, braking and the feel of RWD and that amazing engine sound.... I've gained enough to offset all that. Quieter, rides a lot better. Smoothest freeway and urban pavement ride of any car I've been in. Better than our Audi Q5. Sweet engine, cvt is well behaved and tracks effortlessly on the highway. I commute 99 miles a day round trip, so almost 400 miles per week on average with weekend trips. It's the perfect car. Averaging around 38mpg during the first few days breaking it in going 70-80mph but accelerating and coasting a lot so not efficient operation. Phone integration could be better. Touring features are worth it and will hold resale better I think. ACC and Lane assist work very well. Stereo is very good. Better than the similar 10 speaker system in our Audi Q5. First car with LED headlights and they are awesome! Worth it if you are a highway commuter. I drive in the dark about 60% of the time during the year so it was a big deal. UPDATE: after 1 year of ownership. Still getting excellent mileage. 40-51mpg depending on wind and outside temp and if I drive 65, 70, or 75 onbmy modtly Highway drive. Still very comfy on my long drive. Lane assist helps a lot. Tracking is still excellent and good tire wear overall. Only complaint is the subwoofer in the rear deck rattling. Honda doesn’t have a fix.

Update 3 year, 70k miles. Very impressed for many reasons, and enjoy the hatchback option. 1) Perfect Reliability. Feels as solid and Day 1. No rattles, Just oil changes done. 2) I am still impressed how this car handles. No body roll, handles great even with bad tires. With great tires it would be a charm. 3) High resale value 4) Gas mileage avg around 32mpg with mixed driving. City only 28mpg . Mostly highway 35, only highway on trips, I see 40mpg. Amazing! Cons. 1) Very noisy due to little sound insulation, if any. People have trouble understanding me on Bluetooth due to Wind Noise. 2) Radio is very basic. Not loud at all. Sounds like an upgrade to my Amazon Echo. 3) AC is not the coldest. I still love this car. Highly Recommend It! I still like the looks of it, even though it doesn’t look like a Bankers car, it looks more like a college girl’s. Very impressive car! I have had cars that triple the price and I am impressed! It feels relatively quick, stable around corners, great steering 90 mph on the highway is rock solid. It is really a Fun car! Years back I read something true. It is funner to drive a slow car fast, rather than a fast car slow. Negatives 1)The mirrors create alot of wind noise at speed. 2)The plastic handles to close the trunk are really plastic and delicate. 3) 1st gear is extremely short.

Oil Leaks & Dilution

2017 Honda Civic EX-T 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

After 16 months of ownership, I've decided to trade it in. With approximately 14,000 miles on the clock, the oil dilution issue that has plagued the 1.5 liter turbos in the CR-V's is happening in my vehicle. I'm not interested in any of the alleged 'fixes' that Honda might be pushing out to the public. Approximately 10 ounces of fuel was in the crankcase when I changed the oil last month. 10 ounces of gasoline is nearly 10% of the oil volume. That's well beyond 'normal' limits, even for turbo engines. Secondly, there is oil seeping from the valve cover gasket as well as the oil pan. There have been a couple of electronic gremlins as well associated with the touch screen interface & the instrument panel. I've owned many Hondas and this is the first one I cannot recommend. Stay away from the 1.5 turbo.

I am female, prefer manual transmission, and have 2 kids who are becoming teenagers. Moved from a 2011 Ford Fiesta hatchback into a 2017 Honda Civic Sedan. The Fiesta was rapidly becoming too small (backseat and interior) for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. I appreciated that Honda accepted my trade (as several other dealerships would not), they worked with my large amount of negative equity (almost $10k), and I was able to purchase my first brand new car, with a fair/affordable payment due to their diligence in securing a 1.9% interest rate. The safety features on this Civic made my insurance rates very affordable--my monthly premium only increased by $1.50, which was a pleasant surprise. Things I like with this car---the backseat and interior is large and roomy enough for my teenagers. The car has ample power, shifts smoothly, ride is smooth and it handles well. The suspension and steering is good, brakes respond well, and the interior is quiet. The exterior is sporty but elegant at the same time. Gas mileage on a manual really depends on how you drive it, in my opinion. With my Fiesta, I got great gas mileage, which is the primary reason we bought it 4 years ago----but the drawback on it (besides size) was not much power once you hit 3rd gear. The Civic is a 6 speed manual, and I'm having to re-learn how to drive a manual now. The shifting needs to be quicker than I'm used to. I don't have much use for 6th gear, as most of my driving is stop and go and not on the highway. My LX is base model, there are no bells and whistles. Power windows and door locks are standard, it has Bluetooth for music and phone. The backup camera has been nice and has a wide range of vision. The radio and speakers are not good at all, but I can and will pay aftermarket to upgrade at some point. I miss the heated seats my Fiesta had. I wish the vanity mirrors were lighted. I wish it had a different key-fob, as it has a trunk release that is VERY sensitive, and almost every time I get out of the car holding the keys, the trunk pops open---that is a major annoyance. The major complaints I have after owning and driving it for a month are the speakers and the trunk release on the key-fob.

My new Si

2017 Honda Civic Si 2dr Coupe (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6M)
5 of 5 people found this review helpful

I have owned many cars and was not really in the market for a new car, but Honda was having a lease special (only $199!!!) for a 2017 Civic Si and I couldn't resist. Let's just say I am very happy. I got it in Lunar Silver and I actually think it is a really good looking coupe. The rear wing does interfere with rear vision a bit, but certainly not a deal breaker. The car is a joy to drive, with great damping to soak up bumps and not be too harsh considering it is a sports car. It is quick enough to be fun, but not so quick that you're breaking the law in just 2nd gear. There is the expected turbo lag (and/or boost threshold) issue, but keep it under 3000rpm and you will get nearly 40mpg out of this 1.5 liter. As with most Honda manuals, this is a joy to shift. It is not quite Miata slick or nearly as precise as the S2000s I have owned, but still fun. It is not like the long, rubbery throws of VWs, BMWs and Audis I have owned. I am 6'1" and my head nearly hits the roof. Tons of leg room, but if you are taller than me, your head may poke through the sunroof (or get the sedan which had a bit more headroom). Seats are not leather, but are heated and I prefer that (GTI is the same). Leather is too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. Stereo system sounds good and infotainment system works well. Who needs navigation when you have Android Auto? I thought I wouldn't like the lack of a volume knob, but the steering wheel volume button works quickly to turn volume up or down. This car will not be my daily driver (especially because it is a lease), but I will be missing it on the days I am not behind it's wheel.

Purchased a 2017 Honda Civic....it was my second one due to the first 2004 Civic being totaled in an auto accident. My, how things have changed over the years. I loved my 2004 Civic, but I guess all things works for the good. The 2017 Civic is more than I could ask for in an automobile. It is now March 2018, seven months since I purchased my 2017 Civic and I am still loving it more each day. This car is five stars in every category. I am now approaching three years since purchasing my Honda Civic. I still am pleased with my purchase and have had no issues with the vehicle and I hope to drive it for many years to come. My dad has had his 2002 Honda Civic approaching 20 years and over 300,000 miles later. I am hoping for the same with my 2017 Civic. It is now April 10, 2024 and my Honda Civic is still going well. I moved to Bakersfield, California with it for a year and a half. And now, it has taken me to Seattle, Washington for the next phase in my career. I have no issues with Honda vehicles. They are totally reliable. All of our family members have a Honda vehicle. I recommend Honda to anyone over any other auto manufacturer.

Honda is a good guy company focused on great service, reliable well made product line with great resale value. I have/do own two Honda Civic LX base models. They are well equipped with snappy performance. Both my 2017, and 2018 have beautiful lines, 16 inch tires, great handling and ample trunk space. The interior is well appointed which include back up camera, big screen display for electronics, bluetooth and a great sounding stereo. The seats hold you snugly in turns and are big and comfy. The tan color seats look like leather the fabric is so nice. Overall I rate my Honda's Five Stars.

this is the best civic i have owned ,and being i have had 4 others i do have a base to go by. with out a doubt this is the most pleasing to drive. its quiet , stable ,quicker than expected , even with the cvt trans....the seats are a little firm ,and a knob for volume and fan would be nice , other than that it is a perfect commuter , i drive 60miles a day to work ,half city ,half hwy. , i get an average mpg of 34. even with 80 mph on the hwy. and 30+ red lights in town....all being said ,there is room in the boot for odd and ends , i am 6ft and can sit up in the seat with out rubbing the roof ,that cant be said for the other 4 UPDATE its now 2022 and i traded my for a crv .....nothing wrong with the civic and it did what a good car is supposed to do. it ran great , i have nothing bad to say about the car. i put 78,000 miles on it and it drove like new when i traded it in .it was one of only three cars that i have had that i will miss out of 20 or so

Civic SI is awesome!

Grimey, 09/23/2017
2017 Honda Civic Si 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6M)
10 of 12 people found this review helpful

I had a 2012 Toyota Avalon, tired of the luxury scene and was looking for something fun to drive. I read Car and Driver's review of the Civic SI and went to drive one...loved it. Their review was spot on. Obviously it’s not a luxury car, it's a sports car, so you have to enjoy being "involved" with your car as you drive the SI. 6-speed is all you get and the only option is whether you want summer or all-season tires...summer tires cost a little more ($300). Mine has the all-season 18" wheels and they're great. As for complaints, I do agree with the other reviewer’s comment on the cup holders directly behind the shifter, but as long as your drink isn’t taller than a Coke can, there’s no problem. The electric parking brake took a drive or two to get used to but otherwise I like it. The brake hold option is awesome in traffic so on that one, great job Honda! Personally, I only have 2 issues I’d like Honda to address: 1) Honda does not offer a leather or synthetic leather option...they should. I do not like the material Honda chose for the doors or the center console. The fabric is like a weird, soft burlap material that gets a sheen on it from friction or body oil/sweat. In fact, every new car I test drove at the dealership already had weird white/shiny marks on the door’s arm rest and center console from previous drivers. What I’ve found is that the material is hard to clean and I’m not sure if it’ll stand up to the test of time. In the future, I'd much prefer an upscale soft plastic or leather/synthetic option to replace this odd fabric choice. 2) No auto-dimming rear view mirror. For a car that sits so low in traffic at night with headlights blaring behind you, it's a necessity and should be standard or included with a leather/synthetic interior option. Otherwise, for $23-24K, you just can't beat the quality and value in this little package. By the way, I was going to go with the coupe, but I really needed four doors and the sedan is only 17 pounds heavier so the choice was easy. Usually there’s much more of a weight penalty when you choose 4 doors...Since I've got a large family, the sedan works much better & I’m extremely pleased with the roominess of the back seat. I’m 6’4” and while I’m driving there’s still room for a full sized adult in the back seat. As for the engine, the performance is incredible for a 1.5L Turbo. I drive highway mostly and see at least 38 MPG with a heavy foot (75 MPH average). Honda, pay attention here...fix these small things and if you can’t offset or relocate the cup holders, consider making them deeper to accommodate Yetis & the like. After that, this car is near perfect. I know some buyers may not want a leather or synthetic interior, but at least make it an option and give your buyers a choice. I would have happily paid an extra $1100-1500 for it. Thanks for reading and happy driving!

I have the CVT 1.5 L turbo sedan. This car is outstanding in every way except for two things, one big and and one small. The display screen is just as bad as everyone is saying. It's not at all intuitive, is way too complicated, and simply has too much technology which is accessible only by staring at the screen and figuring out how to find what you want. That dangerous when you're driving and don't have anyone to do it for you sitting in the front seat. Changing a radio station, for example, thus becomes more complicated than in a car with simple dials to turn and buttons to push. This is a major drawback. A second drawback is the tilt and telescopic controls can't be felt, and thus can't be located when you're driving. They're hidden away so badly that the only way to know where they are is to pull over, stop the car, get out and stick your head underneath the stearing column and look for them. Despite these weaknesses, though, the car has really good power and acceleration and amazing gas mileage, and lots of room and storage space.

This 2017 Civic LX I have owned for over a year and put 13.8k on it driving to Maine and Florida. Even with lack of lumbar adjustment the seat is comfortable for long day of driving. The car is peppy and the handling is actually fun. The trunk is good sized and doing chores and grocery shopping etc are made easier with nice lift over height. My mileage on trips is well over 40 usually around 43.6mpg. My around town mileage is around 30-36mpg. I do not beat the car but I do drive 70+ on the Thurways. It drives and feels like the day I picked it up new. I would highly recommend. Room for four and it makes the driver feel like he is in a sports car. I just got back from a 4600 mile drive to the Grand Canyon. I had varying mileage my best 47.1 mpg to my worst 40.3mpg. The car always feels peppy and the engine steps up to another level when hitting 3500rpm. But I seldom venture into that range. But nice to know it’s there. 10 days of 600+ miles a day and the car was a comfortable place to be. The back seat is only a short ride place to be as the slope of the roof impedes comfort for taller riders. As an update the car now has 32k miles and still runs perfect. Gas mileage has stayed consistent. The car is just plain fun to drive every time you start it up. I will be trading it soon as I am looking for a tow vehicle.

This is my 5th Civic. The Lumbar is killing me on my daily 88 mile roundtrip commute. There is no adjustment on the LX seats. I traded a 2012 Civic and had no problems with it. I am 6'2, 185 pounds. Shorter people have tried my car with no issues. My son has a 2007 Civic with no problems. I may have to trade cars with him. The power, ride, steering are a step up from the 2012 LX. Materials are also much better. The center console is quite large, and stuff gets lost under the sliding cupholder. The center guage is to cluttered. The EX is much better desighn. The LX guage must have been an afterthought. The stereo is also inferior to my previuos 2009, and 2012. No midrange. I would recommend taking this car on a long ride before you buy. Maybe find one to rent. As much as I love Honda, I will have to look elsewhere. I have owned it for 7 months, and put 15000 miles on it. Very uncomfortable front seats. My wife and son are also complain about the passenger seat and the floorboard. The floorboard is not flat. Dips and valleys. This makes it very uncomfortable on long trips. It is the most uncomfortable car I have ever owned. After developing plantar facilities , I have gave up on this car. Gave it to my son. My back and feet are fine now.

My wife came home from the airport on our country road zipping along at 77 in a 55. She admitted she was having too much fun driving this car. The cop told her it took a while to catch up with her. This car is just zippy and accelerates around town like a gem. Such a pleasure to drive and tool around in. Cannot say enough about how fun honda made this car to drive. 35mpg mixed driving. Sport mode in the CVT is a fantastic feature. This car is a total blast. Can't give it a perfect review cuz the radio controls are touch screen which is a major hazard. Also, gotta plug your phone in twice almost everytime to get carplay to connect. Bizarre. Car continues to be a gem. 4th year in at 50k miles. No issues.

I have a new 2017 civic after being involved in an accident (not my fault) whereupon my 2016 civic was totalled. Car and airbags performed well with minimal injuries to my passenger and me. The check that I received for the car was more than I had expected. Previous to these 2 civics. I had a civic for 9 years and loved.

Great car love the hatchback electronics/technology need some work. No volume knob - I believe is fixed in 2018's stereo volume seems to randomly change - lost all my presets last night and have never disconnected the battery. Climate fan control should also be a knob and not electronic. Apple Car Play cool - need USB charger for rear passengers Overall love the car: my updated review has to lower my initial review due to the electronics. More is not always better: randomly lose all my presets: Apple Car Play not yet perfected and if electronics goes out and needs to be rebooted you lose access to your climate controls since they are all electronic also: love the ride but frustrated with the electronics

Bought the 2017 Honda Civic as the first car for my daughter turning 16. She had max budget of 20K, but we had a little wiggle room. This car has great features in that price range and drives great. She drove the civic and accord and preferred the civic. Great gas milage and she preferred the handling of the civic. She will be paying for her own gas, so the MPG was great. The car has sporty and pretty styling and next to my '07 MB C230, is about the the same size! She is super proud of it!

A surprisingly sporty sedan

My primary vehicle is a 2016 Mazda Miata. It's a great 3rd car but a horrible 2nd car. I needed a fun to drive vehicle that could hold a car seat and not break the wallet. I looked at the GTI (loved it), Acura TLX, Audi A3/4/5 sportback, and BMW 4 series Gran Coupe before finally driving a 2018 Honda Civic Si. I would be in a GTI right now but couldn't negotiate an acceptable deal. That turned out to be fortuitous because I am now driving a 2017 Honda Civic Si and loving it. It is a truly remarkable vehicle for the price. First, the awesome stuff. As the owner of a Miata, I really like the handling of the Civic. It is a firm but not punishing ride. The steering is remarkably accurate and communicative. Impressive. I only have about 200 miles on the car and can already tell the tires are the weak link in the ride/suspension/handling realm. Seats are excellent, firm and supportive without being confining. The power is adequate, quick enough to be fun but not fast enough to hurt yourself. Fuel mileage is remarkable! 70+ mph = 40 mpg. I was not expecting that at all. The vehicle is also remarkably roomy. Lastly for the positives is Honda's lane watch. A small camera on the passenger side mirror that activates with the turn signal. You now can see on the ride side in high clarity what is going on next to you. I love it! I wish all my vehicles had this feature. Now for the less positive things. The clutch is horrible. WAY too light. When you add the engine's propensity to hang onto RPM under load it makes for a less than stellar shifting experience. Hopefully I will get used to it. The audio system is more than adequate but there are NO knobs for volume. Nor are their knobs or buttons for turning on the a/c or fan. Argh! Honda got so many things right with this vehicle it is maddening that these small details were not addressed. Overall though, I am impressed with the vehicle. You will be hard pressed to find something else at the same price point. That makes dealing with some of the less positive aspects totally doable. Well done Honda. I look forward to many trouble free miles driving this fun little sedan.

I traded a 2015 Honda Fit for my 2017 Sonic Grey Civic hatch. I loved the Fit, it was manual shift and I drove it 25000 miles in just under a year. But I saw the Civic hatch in the Sonic grey and had to have it. In retrospect, I wish I'd kept the Fit, and here's why. 1. the seats - the Civic seats just aren't as comfortable to me as the Fit's were. My wife agrees. 2. I'm not old but I'm not young anymore, and getting in and out of the Civic is a chore. You sit on the ground, or so it feels. 3. I've got some rattles in the Civic, driving on our lovely Michigan roads, and I never heard any rattles in the Fit. 4. Wind noise - the Fit had less of it. Heck, even my 1997 Ford Ranger has less wind noise in a good crosswind. 5. slight vibrations - between 55-65mph, not all the time, not every day, but its there. Friend of mine rode in it the other day, asked my why it was 'shimmying'. It concerns me, because I've heard other stories about Honda CVT trannys doing this. HOWEVER - the good - its not all bad!!! I absolutely love the power delivery with the turbo 1.5 and the CVT transmission. The car accelerates very smoothly (and quickly) and always seems to be in the right 'gear' for the situation. Really works well. Fuel economy is very good, I average 38mpg in mixed driving and I have never turned on the econ setting. Cargo room is fantastic, we brought home a very large powered recliner one day that my wife said 'it'll go in the car' but I didn't believe her. It fit in the car no problem! Finally, the car looks great - its why I bought it. I love the Sonic grey color. But to sum up - the Fit I wanted to drive every day, and put 25K on it in a year. The Civic I've had 6 months, and I've put 5K on it. I drive my old Ford Ranger more. Can't explain exactly why, but the Civic just doesn't 'connect' with me. I will likely trade it very soon.

In the last few years, I've had a Lexus IS, a Camry, a Prius, and a Lexus CT. This car is the best combination possible of all the things I liked about those cars. The fuel economy is great (consistently 32/41). It's roomy. It has wonderful cargo space. The interior is as nice as or nicer than the 2 Lexus vehicles. The ride is smooth. It's sporty with really peppy acceleration (really fun when I took it to the mountains). Every single feature I could possibly want except for ventilated seats (but the perforated leather is nice). I could not be any happier with a car. Update: It just keeps getting better. I've had no negative issues at all. This car is a total keeper.

I initially wanted the touring trim but ended up settling for the ex-t. Engine is powerful and you can really zoom in this car. Gas mileage is great, I would suggest not using the econ button, it makes driving this car boring and really takes the fun away. The cvt makes the ride really smooth and i've actually really grown to like it. I’m going on 72,000 miles with zero problems. If you change the fluid of the cvt every 30k it’ll last just as long as a traditional Honda transmission. Apple Carplay glitches sometimes and the infotainment system could use an upgrade, but other than that I'll be keeping this car until the wheels fall off! Update!! I am at 140k miles and I cannot WAIT to get rid of this car. I’ve went through 4 batteries, 4 pairs of tires, engine has electrical issues with the turbocharger, coolant disappears and I need a new head gasket. I replaced the starter but it just ended up being another bad battery because this car eats through them. I’ve found the seats are super uncomfortable on longer drives and I’m 6’1. My legs start to cramp because the seat doesn’t move back far enough. The steering has started to make a popping sound when pulling out of parking spaces but it hasn’t been anything catastrophic yet. When it gets hot outside the oil pressure light starts flashing repeatedly and will even cut down your music. The oil pressure sensor is buried above the ac compressor way down reach from the engine compartment or wheel well and mechanics wanted over a grand in labor to replace a $8 part. If you’re looking for a long term car to ride the wheels off like I was, this is not the one and I’ve read that the newer civics have even more electrical issues. Stay away unless you’re going to trade after 100k. Update!!! Finally got rid of this car at 175k. The car started skipping across the road at about 145k due to the head gasket leaking. It went away after injector replacement but came back again at 175k and I finally called it quits and sold it on Facebook for a couple grand. The paint was also peeling and fading all over the top of the car and the hood (cosmic blue color). The CVT never gave me any problems surprisingly and I always stayed on top of my maintenance. The oil started to smell like gasoline more and more as I racked up mileage. It got so bad to the point I changed the oil every 2500 miles to prevent the gasoline mixing with oil and watering down the already thin 0w-20. My experience with the dealer and Honda in general was very disappointing and I’m just thankful I was able to do my own repairs and save some money. This car gave me trauma it felt like I could never catch a break from problems. I now drive a 2017 Elantra that I’ve rented on Turo for years and it has 157k never had any of the issues my civic had…..

I really enjoy driving the car. I usually hate driving but this car is fun! Especially coming from a 2011 Nissan Sentra that took a lot to get up to speed.. My Civic is so much quicker. I really wish they had more features on them. But I guess at the base model I can’t complain. Overall a I’m so happy to have this car!

The Civic Hatch is a great option if you want good fuel economy, power, eye-catching styling, and the versatility of an SUV in a compact package. My EX-L w/nav averages 39 mpg and has plenty of power. My only complaint, after owning several SUVs, is getting in and out of it isn't as easy, but if you're used to a car, it isn't an issue. The interior quality is excellent--great finishes, but I would recommend either getting the leather (EX-L) or getting an after-market kit with leather for the door inserts and the center console; the EX I test drove was already showing smudges on the cloth in those areas. I think the cloth seats would hold up fine, though. The leather package is the same as the CR-V Touring package and looks great. Interior ride is quiet and comfortable. The car handles great and is fun to drive.

Honda knew this on certain models years but kept producing the car something about bad condenser. Then my McPherson strut just blew out on passenger front only have 36000 on this car no accident no hitting anything. Life of that strut should be at least 100000 miles b4 it blows. Incredible power and fuel economy. Dual zone climate control is wonderful. Touch screen for adjusting vents and fan speed is a catastrophe. Terrible idea made worse by abysmal execution. Hitting the small boxes for fan speed/vents requires the driver's full/undivided attention. Touch screen does not respond when wearing gloves. The keyless entry key fob is another headache. Finding windows down and sunroof and trunk open is not uncommon. Excellent car but the devil is in the details.

I owned (leased) the 2017 Civic Hatch EX for over 3 years now. Love the look and even interior styling. People complain about the volume button but I found it to be a mute issue because I just use the volume button on the wheel. The real issue is this the most times I've been to the mechanic for this car vs the last 12 years of owning vehicles which I'll explain below. Honda refuses to acknowledge the problems, reimburse, or even provide discounts on the lease return. The GOOD: -Style -Drive. Really fun and nimble. Terrific pick up. Except it likes to skid a bit too easy. -Hatch versatility. Moved a table, 6 full chairs, and bookcase in one trip -Walk-away lock feature. So convenient. Other companies don't have it. The BAD: - Driver's seat comfort. ZERO lumber support. Long drives (2+ hours) are just impossible and I'm a 5'9" yoga teacher with no back issues. Yet. -Tires pop easy. Went through 4 tires in about 1.5 years in NYC. Just not a city car. Terrible suspension with low tire walls. -MAJOR AC ISSUE: Air Conditioning started blowing warm air 2.5 years in (40k miles). I went through many forums. There are 100's like me. It's a huge issue that Honda refuses to acknowledge and make a recall. It's past warranty so they won't fix it free for me. Cost ~$1200. - TMPS Monitoring system: Light went on 2.5 years on a routine tire rotation at reputable shop. Back to the forums... Many have the same issue. The system is flawed. No real issue, just annoying light. And if a tire does blow, bad news for me. -Audio system rattle: The casing is crap. Rattles when any bit of bass plays at half volume. The shop couldn't do a thing - after 3 "replacements". I hacked it myself by adding some cushion insulation by the edges. TLDR: This is my 3rd Honda. STAY AWAY. Expect issues. Sadly, this isn't the only Honda model with consistent issues. They are just not reliable anymore.

Consider upgrading to leather seats for the adjustability. In our experience Honda leather seats look like [non-permissible content removed] after about 6 years. I like cloth seats so I opted for the ex, but after a month in the car I wish I had more adjustments on the drivers seats. Other than the seat issue I like the combination of nice features and the lower cost of the ex model. Looked closely at Mazda 3 and Subaru empreza. Ruled out impreza, similar equipped Subaru cost more, did not need or want all wheel drive. Mazda was close second and nice car for the money but the closest dealer was just a Hassle to get to and the Honda had more zip from the turbo charged motor.

Why anyone would spring for the sport or sport touring version of this hatch for an extra 6 horses is beyond me as you're signing up for having to purchase premium fuel for the life of your ownership, as well as getting inferior fuel economy. You can't even feel the modest increase. Yeah, the exhaust setup looks nice but imo it's too aggressive looking - save that for the type R or Si. Anyway - overall very happy with purchase - fuel economy in mixed driving hitting a little under what it's rated for - I'm hoping that changes. Not a huge fan of the honeycomb faux vents on the rear bumper but I bought black so they blend in better than other colors. I love the overall design of this hatch, and although typically prefer a good M/T over an automatic, I'm pretty impressed by the CVT on this car.

Immediately after I test drove this car I fell in love. It seemed like the perfect size, great gas mialage, stylish and good technology. I purchased it about a month later after shopping around some more. This car let me down as well as the dealership. There was something wrong with the passenger side tire that is popped twice within a year causeing the wheel itself, the rim and the tire all needing replacing. Each time it cost over $1200. The electric windows got stuck in the winter time. The rear lights stopped working causing me to get pulled over, I tried to get it taken care of and they charged me to reset the entire computer system causing a pretty high bill. The build quality was embarrassing and the road noise was unbearable. Overall I wish I never got this car and truly wish Honda could win me over again. I warn everyone don’t get fooled by the brand reputation or the attractiveness of this vehicle, you will be disappointed. At this price point or just slightly higher you can get a much better quality vehicle including entry level luxury/premium cars.

Update (1-year later): Infotainment is very slow to respond. Takes forever to be able to turn the heat and ac on because you have to go through the whole boot up process unless you leave them on before turning off the car which I don't like to do. Initial Acceleration is poor. Motor hesitates before gaining speed. I understand this is a safety feature maybe to prevent too much wheel spin or engine/ transmission protection, but still, slow to get going. Brake lights went out. Fortunately, warranty took care of that. Honda sensing is questionable. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Front seat lacks lumbar support. Getting uncomfortable over time. Need a small pillow lol. Only positive im seeing more after the initial buying experience is the interior. Beautifully laid out, simple controls, spacious layouts, intuitive. Love the new digital gauges and animation sequence. Despite that, I'm Already looking forward to getting rid of it. Will not buy a civic again. Looking for a new Camry or possibly check out the accord. Update two years later: Acceleration is getting worse over time. Stuffy. Maintenance are well kept up at the dealer but still, it just doesn’t feel the same as the first year. Now, I floor it most of the time and the speed picks up. This isn’t normal among smaller cars because I’ve driven quite a few including Corollas, and older Civics. They had more acceleration than this and they’re quick to respond. Regardless, no abnormal wear and tear. No noises. No major issues. Cars still running solid. Idling may have to be adjusted eventually because it sputters a little from time to time. Will do that next major maintenance schedule. I’m thinking if this may be related to the slower acceleration response. Fuel system issue. Perhaps a dirty fuel filter already. Or maybe needs an injector cleaning or flush to blow out the carbons. Then again, shouldn’t my hard accelerating so that already kind of? These are $100 questions waiting to be answered. In three years. Update three years later and final year!!! Civic is no more! After the third year, the performance was shot. Engine overheated, fuel pump had issues and replaced. Electrical failure started to occur with the power windows. Then the TPMS sensors for the ECU went bad. Tires were perfectly fine. Dealer was hesitant to work on warranty services. Had to challenge them and make a big fuss over some of these car issues that was creeping up on me. Overall, became what seems like a lemon! A car of three years shouldn't have these kind of problems. First time buying a Honda, and the last time buying a Honda. Good riddance!
