Update: I still have this car and it now has over 210k miles on it and runs great. the reliability of this car has been amazing. I purchased this car new in 2010. I have almost 190,000 miles on it and have had to put no problems with it whatsoever. I drive it for work so I put a lot of miles on it. No major repairs (other than an $400 oil pan after Walmart's service technicians ruined my oil pan after an oil change). Now, I take the car to repair facilities that I trust and I have not had any more repairs. The only thing that I do faithfully is keep up with regular maintenance such as oil changes, tire replacements, brakes and batteries (have had to put two batteries in it). I took the car on a 7-hour (14 hour round trip) road trip with 180,000 miles and no problems at all. It is very reliable.

Bought the civic last summer and its been pretty good so far. She had a body noise that I was told was a problem with the 2010 civics but the dealer took care of it. It still shows up when the road is especially bumpy but its ok. Milage is great and the car sips gas. Handles great and because I am average height, there's plenty of room for me and friends. It really is fun to drive and I love the reliability. I also notice that people arent dinging my doors cuz the car is slimmer than my Camry yet has the same room inside as my old car(98 camry). So far, overall, I would buy another.

Decent Car

I've owned for 13 months; have driven it 23,000 miles. Gas mileage is awesome, usually 35-37. Visibility is pretty good. Stereo sounds like a more expensive car. I like the funky dash also. The car rides fairly well for a small car but you do feel some bumps. Is very light, which isn't so good in the snow or on windy days. Build quality isn't bad overall. My biggest gripe is that Honda apparently leaves out desirable features to keep costs down. My car has only two cup holders and I can't adjust the intermittent wipers. It appears to be a good choice, but the competition probably gives you more features at a lower price. UPDATE: Three years after my original review, I'm still enjoying this car. Probably hitting the 100k milestone later this week and no major problems at all. The only money I've put in this car aside from maintenance was for repairs from hitting two separate deer, which the car stood up to great in both collisions. It also slid off an icy road and was retrieved with no damage back in 2014. It also went through what I would call a fairly intense hailstorm with no damage. It's been a pretty sturdy car over the last four plus years. One glaring exception - the finish on the factory hubcaps is awful. If I do keep the car (discussed below) I'll be getting new ones. All that said, I'm seriously considering trading, as I have found this car to not be comfortable on the highway or on long trips. The seats start to kill my back after about two hours, and the car is extremely bumpy and loud on the highway...and you better hope it's not a windy day or you'll be blown in and out of your lane the whole trip. A mechanic once used the phrase "rides like a covered wagon" when discussing a previous car of theirs, and I think this probably fits here also. In addition, the car is powerful enough on flat land, but it is lacking on mountainous drives, which I often find myself taking. The gas mileage is still great in normal driving, but once again, in the mountains the car struggles with that, and the high revs drop the mpgs to about 33-34. These days, many modern midsize sedans do better than that while delivering more comfort and power. Summary: My experience with this car has been overwhelmingly positive. It's been the most reliable car I've ever owned, has held its own in minor traffic incidents, and is very economical in typical driving. If you drive a lot, though, you may find that it beats you up too much and might find a more modern, economical mid size to be a better bet. This is a better city/suburban runaround than a long distance cruiser. And yes, the non-adjustable intermittent wipers still aggravate me.

OK. so do I like my Civic, and it is a great car for the value (but there are a couple issues). Had it for a year, 16,000 miles, yet to have a break down or major repair. Tune up here and there, and that's it. Great for city and highway driving, great gas mileage. Pretty comfortable. I am short and small, but my dad who is 6'2" can fit in the drivers seat and passengers seat comfortably for long trips. The but: winter driving. Even with top notch snow tires (and yes, for the record I am a capable driver in the snow), I had one or two close calls and am now looking for an AWD vehicle. This car is not even slightly equipped for the snow.

Handles like a go kart, in a good way, steering is nice and tight, not too tight. Suspension is firm around corners but absorbs the bumps. Gas mileage so far is 35 mpg with an automatic 50% highway 50% around town. Stereo is decent, not cheap, but nothing high-end. The lx-s comes with a black interior for anyone who hates the all gray look. Also comes with a small deck lid spoiler, rims, leather steering wheel and sportier seats. Engine feels like its going to run forever. Can't notice the transmission shifting except when going from reverse to drive. Back seat room is amazing. My 6ft 4in dad has leg room to move around and enough head room to feel comfortable. The flat floor helps alot too.

This car once again proved it's reliability. I have over 140000 miles on my car and i haven't any problems beside tires, brakes and shocks (depends on where you live). Only con about this car is the hp.

Fuel efficient. Will really save you money in the long run. Never had engine problems. I did have issues with wheel alignment about 6 years in. The battery was normal as usual- it died on me one time about 5 years in which AAA came and changed it on the spot for around $100. This car is decent in snow because it's front wheel drive, however you should probably install Blazzaks or Yokohomas during the winter for better traction. The cabin is a little noisier compared to other cars but this is expected. This car really holds up against the test of time. After 8 years owning one, it was finally time to move up (or down) to a Mustang. I do miss the 4 doors and the practicality of the civic. However, I just needed something faster. Now that I have a mustang, I do think that I will probably end up exchanging it for a 4 door performance car in the future since I realized how practical the Civic was. I think the Honda Civic is best suited for new drivers ages 16-23. Hell, I would have even kept this longer because i really don't need a new car. The only reason for exchanging Civic for a mustang was solely for performance reasons. I just wanted to finally drive something fast for a change. Other than that, I think that the Civic was a tremendous first car. It will keep you humble, will get you where you need to be and you won't ever have to worry about it. If things go wrong, you have the peace of mind knowing that parts are cheap. If you get a ding, it doesnt really matter since I hate to say this but it's a civic. I mean that in the most respectable way possible and you really do get that peace of mind when you're working or studying. You won't constantly be wondering if anyone is trying to steal or key your car or anything. Overall 5/5 car.

2010 Civic LXS 5 speed manual

Bought it new on Feb 2010 for $16K ( MSRP $18,900) I always felt Civic was the most reliable, refined, fuel efficient, fun to drive small car around. Its gas mileage I believed was the closest to a hybrid w/o the cost or engine complexity. I was right on in every aspect. After over two years and 18K miles, it has never been back to the dealer for any repair. Its gas mileage is 36mpg on hwy doing 70-75. and I have got 40mpg on three occasions when I keep the speed at 65mph. Its 5 speed manual is amazingly precise and solid. The car is agile, nimble, and very fun to drive. The exterior shape eventhough goeas back to 2006, is still pleasant to look at.

I love waking up every morning to drive my car. Honda is known for its comfortable design and reliability! Other than a slightly uncomfortable front seat on long trips, this car is the perfect car for me. It has a modern design with an extremely ergonomic gauge cluster that lets me keep my eyes on the road. I've never been let down by it's fast and steady acceleration entering the highway or going up a hill. Extremely great on gas, and other than the regular maintenance it never needs anything.

Rear Suspension Problems

This is my 4th Civic. The 1998 Civic ex was the best. Still running with 280k miles on it. Both my 2004 civics had Cylinder head gasket problems, one at 127k, the other at 214k. I have 80K on my 2010 civic lxs. It's comfortable, has pep, and gets 38mpg. My one complaint is a big one. The rear struts are basically non existent if I have two adults in the back seat. The car bottoms out on small bumps. It's truly frightening, and loud. You'd have to experience it for yourself. Oh, and I drive highway only miles. I believe that Honda quality has been going down steadily since '98. I'm probably going for a Toyota or Nissan next.

Hinda Civic 2008-2010 Break pad WARNING

My car has 16,000 miles and I am having the break pads replaced. Break pads should last atleast 30,000 miles. What Honda is failing to tell their customers is that they are in a lawsuite about this exact problem. In other words, they are aware of the problem, and have been aware but are not disclosing this problem to buyers. The break pads are not covered under warranty and honda is aware that their break pads have a 50% less lifespan than normal break pads. This is a safety hazard. And costly problem that Honda will not cover.

I’ve had my car for almost 4 months now and I’m still very impressed with it. The sound system is exceptional, the 5 speed manual feels amazing, even after 207,509 km. Great on fuel, (6.8 l/100). Handles curve great, quiet and comfy on the highway and great in the snow. Would wholeheartedly recommend.

Runs Great

This little car was really a steal for $3k cash used. Unfortunately, the check engine light was on, and the front bumper was a little loose but attached. The passenger window rolled down but then during the test drive got stuck halfway up. The dealer actually was able to successfully get the window back up to normal position. Even with all the issues up front, it was a $3k car so I bought it outright with cash. The windshield had a crack spanning from the bottom to the top and completely centered and definitely had to be replaced for an inspection. I got a flat tire shortly after I got the car and had to replace 3 out of 4 tires because they were horrible and bald. Immediately after I drove it off the lot, I got the oil changed because I had no clue what had or had not been maintained on the car. So the check engine light is still on throwing two errors. P0498 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Vent Shut Valve Control Circuit Low Voltage P0135 Primary Heated Oxygen Sensor (Primary HO2S) (Sensor 1) Heater Circuit Malfunction... I have checked and researched and this could be five different solutions for either of the errors. So I've replaced the windshield and got it all fixed except the cel and I'm worried about how much I'm going to have to put into this cheap car to get my tags next month. Since I read all Honda models from 2006-2011 have this cel issue or issues, I am really baffled that Honda hasn't come out and said, " hey guys, we gave you less quality parts" or whatever the real deal is and issued a recall because this seems to be an issue with at least 85% of vehicles the produced during 06-11. So wish me luck on my quest to turn off this cel. Also my TPMS light never, ever goes off and my tires stay well maintained because I travel twice a week to a big city 2 hours away from me to work a second job.

This vehicle is not a 4 season car. The winters in Mi. can be harsh with strong winds and temps below the teens. How many times over a 5 year ownership the engine never heated up to warm the cabin and maintain proper engine temperature. That always bugged me. Take away that phase and it was a fairly decent vehicle. It was also noisy with little or no insulation in the floor. Engine and transmission were rock solid and performed flawlessly. It'd be a nice little vehicle for Calif. or Florida but it's not very good for the winter months in the midwest.

It does not ride rough - smooth ride. Air conditioning is great - I keep on low and I am always hot. Great car. I would recommend to anyone.

Traded in a 2003 VW Passat GLX, and couldn't be happier. Feel the LX-S is best combination of features and price in the Civic line up. First tank of gas in mixed driving got me 32 mpg. Fit and finish is excellent, as expected, and while some complain about the plastic interior, what do you expect for a car that can be had for less than $19,000? I rate the performance as a 10, because for a car like this, the overall performance is excellent. It's a Civic, not a Bugatti Veyron. If you want high performance, buy a performance car. If you want quality, economy and value, buy a Civic.

I have had this car for over 1 year now, and am very satisfied. It is comfortable, fun to drive, and gets excellent gas mileage (about 38 mpg highway). I have had no problems with it. Wouldn't mind power seats, but wouldn't expect that at this price range. I also looked at the VW Golf, Mazda 3, and Impreza. I thought this car handled better than all but the Golf, and in the Golf the seats were too narrow. UPDATE: So I have had this car almost 15 years now and no major problems. About 105k miles. I love the handling and the smooth braking which really helps in navigating aggressive highway driving. Starting to lose some paint on the top surfaces of the car but I chalk this up to NYC air pollution.

2010 civic - it us up to Honda now

I bought my daughter a new 2010 civic to start college. Everything has been good up until now. Coming out of winter, we discovered her air conditioner is not working. The local Honda dealership in Gadsden says the compressor is out. The car has 40,000 miles, which is just past warranty. The local service manager says he is going to bat for me with the District manager to honor fix this for us. He committed to calling me yesterday with an answer. Still waiting - what do you think will happen? I own 6 cars, but this is my first Honda. It is up to Honda if this is my last purchase of a Honda product. Hopefully they will do the right thing and fix it. I will update as this unfolds.

Excessive road noise and rattles!

Very disappointed, road noise over even slight imperfections on roads is very loud and distracting. If you were to drive over a penny on the road you would hear it ! @10,000 KM various rattles have developed, in glove box, sun visor, seat belt mechanism. I used to like going for drives, but not anymore since buying this car. My 1999 Civic I traded in put this car to complete shame when it comes to refinement. I will likely never by a Honda product again. Honda quality appears to be a thing of the past. How anyone can recommend a car with this level of road noise and rattles is beyond me. This could have been a great car, if Honda engineers paid some attention to detail. Buyer beware !

I purchased the Civic LX-S. The ride is solid, fuel great, and all those who complain about the engine noise must be mashing on the gas pedal at high speed. I only get load engine noise when hitting passing gear at high speeds on the highway. Better backseat room than an '07 325i BMW I tested and the passing gear in that gave loud engine noise too. All in all, I'll take the Honda. A great car for the price.

I traded in a 2008 Honda Accord EXL Coupe for my Honda Civic LX-S. I gave up leather, sunroof, and bigger engine but got a great car. I have had many Honda Accords and I was amazed how comfortable this car was. I am 6'1" and I have plenty of room. Great options are included in this pkg. The only give up from the EX model would be the sunroof and audio controls on the steering wheel. I can live without that. Great interior with the special fabric and ultra suede. It adds a little bit of class to the car. I have had my car for 2 months now and have no regrets. I get excellent mileage and a good ride. I have not experienced any noise as a few others have commented.

I'm somewhat disappointed with my Civic. I feel all of the bumps in the road, the steering is way too sensitive, my knee constantly hits the emergency brake lever and the acceleration is weak. I don't like the rear window defogger as it doesn't clear all the way up to the top, I assume because the antenna is there. The paint and windshield seem to chip very easy, I've had a couple already. I don't like the way the inside door jams retain so much dirt and water after a rain or snow. When you open up the doors the inside jams are filthy. I don't like the head rest on the driver's seat, it pushes up whenever a push back on the seat. Brakes are good, gas mileage lower than I hoped for.

I bought the 2010 LX-S as a replacement for my 2002 LX.I commute 90 miles a day-my 02 was great, not the fanciest car on the road, but went 175K comfortable miles with no issues. With this history I blindly bought the 2010 expecting at least the same as my 02. I went for the obligatory test drive, but it was more a formality-I was buying a new Civic.Don't get me wrong, the 2010 is a great car.It looks great (silver w/alloys) and the MPG is 30-34. My only caution to a potential buyer is the driver cabin is tight. I'm 6 2" and the placement of the e- brake causes my leg to go numb. The front leg room is very tight for a big & tall driver. Please keep this in mind on your test drive-I missed it.

I purchased a 2010 Honda Civic. It already had 6K miles. I should have known the original owner dumped it for some reason. Unless the road is just built yesterday, you can feel and hear the road roaring and the whole car is so light that it jumps over the smallest of lines on the road. I am extremely unhappy that I have put in so much money on this. Bought it for 16 grand. I wish I could get rid of it. Already I have changed a shock, which was under warranty and its brakes are going away. I cannot believe it . It has 18,000 miles only. I will be always discouraging people from buying this.

This is an okay little car, its not a Mercedes and that's not what your buying so don't expect that, but its a nice little car. Mine has 18k on it and I bought it new for the wife. Got about 35mpg new hwy now being broke in if you drive easy on hwy 65-70 not running hard it gets about 41mpg. Couldn't ask for better mpg's. This car does seem to be cheap made plastic(y), a little noise on the road, but it has nice features it gets hybrid gas mileage it cost less than most. Great buy if you ask me. Wouldn't keep it forever but its okay for a couple years.

The civics of 2009, 2010 has the rough, slow start problem even as a new car. Google it and you will see many complaints about the same problem. My civic has about 10,000 miles. It happens a couple of times a week that the car starts tu-tu-tu-tu-tu-tu-tu-tu-tu-tu-tu-tu-wuuuun. Sometimes the first start eventually fails and need to restart. Very annoying. I have been having this problem since the first week I bought it new.

Nothing like older Civics in terms of its soul or lovability. Ride is moderately rough but still wallows over undulations on the highway. The increased power is at a severe cost to fuel economy (as low as 24 mpg without much sporting) and the automatic transmission does a poor job of utilizing the power vs fuel economy curve. Its like they took the shifting map of a V8 and copied it exactly. It is obsessed with micromanaging. Moreover, it doesn't even get it right. It will skip 2nd up a hill when it should have just left the power on tap, then doesn't have the power to make it in 3rd and shifts back to second. My passengers often think I'm moving the throttle. My malaise grows.

Drove this car for about a hundred miles and I hate it. The seats are uncomfortable, when I get out of this car after a short ride I feel like I've been through a war.

This car I got a good deal on getting for about 14k used with roughly 35k miles. Gas MPG is way off, theres no way I get 36 highway or 28 city. Acceleration is very poor especially coming from a 6 cylinder maxima. Car is a good first car maybe because of it's poor acceleration and ease to drive. Not really a fun ride, however it is reliable. I haven't had to repair anything and now I'm a little over 60k miles. I'm personally not a fan of the car with the way it drives.

Just bought this car. Found it fun to drive, comfortable (I am 5' 9" x 210lbs). Gave it a 3 on reliability because not experienced. Read some things about 'funky' dash design. Spoke with a friend that said it took 2-3 days to get comfort with it. Took me 1 day. Not a distraction .. rather an advantage by placing it in sight. Found you do not tend to leave directionals on as you can see as you drive w/o 'looking' for them. Bought at local Silko Honda, Raynham, MA dealership (last place I thought of shopping for a car at) with the ONLY 'Lifetime Powertrain Warranty' for the purchaser. This vehicle was also certified.

I bought a 2010 civic lx-s and about 4 months after i bought it we started to have a trouble with extended crank time "as the dealership called it" They gave us the run around said they found a loose bolt in the fuse block but didnt put it in the paper work. I have always took the car to a dealer to have all of the services. We had it in the shop 3 times and was always told they couldn't find a problem. We hit 23000 miles and started the car the check engine light came on and when I tried to drive it it would slam into gear and only shift up to 2nd gear. I am completely discusted with Honda and the way they are treating us through this whole issue. I will NEVER buy another Honda again.

I bought the 2010 Civic LX - 4 door sedan new off the lot in July 2010. It was my first car purchase and, to be honest, I'm regretting purchasing this (or any) car brand new. I paid $16,500 for it. Over five years later it's valued around $7500-$9000, which is not bad. I was attracted to this car because its sleek body style. It looks just great in Taffeta White! As a 5'9" woman, the interior is a tad cramped. It's not the easiest to get in and out of and the driver's side door does not stay open/in place. When you're toting belongings, it's quite annoying. The car handles well in the city, though I'm not thrilled about the gas tank capacity (13.5) - I feel like I'm constantly fueling up! The interior dash is as sleek looking as the body, which was a major bonus for me. The only real issue I've had is that I had replace the brake pads (~$400) about 2.5-3 years into purchase. About a year later I was notified of a recall, but for some reason my vehicle did not qualify. Another annoying, but not insignificant issue I had immediately was the quality of the factory windshield wipers. Useless, actually dangerous, in any sort of precipitation. Even after having Honda give me new ones immediately after my purchase, I had to fork over $50 at AutoTire to get some decent ones. Highway driving is atrocious in this car. Acceleration is not great and you can feel too much of the highway. Also, the seats just aren't comfortable enough for long trips. This is a good starter car, no doubt, but I would not recommend it for much else. After 5 years with this car, I can't wait to upgrade.

This is a solid vehicle. We use our Civic mostly in light city driving with infrequent short highway driving. First tank of gas provided over 31 mpg with 90 percent city driving. This Civic is an outstanding city car for commuting to work or for shopping trips. We did not purchase ours to make trips in the hundreds of miles as comfort may be compromised as with any smaller vehicle. Our drive out price was 18,600 and that included about $500 for all the nice extra features that come with the LX-S, the dreaded $498 doc fee for admin work and a 7% sales tax that added about $1200. The dealer was easy to deal with as we went in with a general drive out price in mind.

I previously owned a 2003 civic. 170,000 miles and no problems. So when it came time for a newer vehicle civic was at the top of my list. I can't believe how much this car rattles. Rear seat passenger side constantly rattles. Also driver side door has noise issues. After a little getting used to the dash board is ok. The AC is not even close to being as cold as my 03 civic. I am not bashing Honda but they need to take their time on the next redesign and get it right. Otherwise I will try something else.

2010 CIVIC LX-S Purchase on 3/22/2010

Purchased my 2010 Civic lx-s on 3/22/2010 for $16,555. Trade-in 2008 lx 43,700 miles, and got $10,750 for it. With 0.9% financing and incentives, it was hard to beat. Financing ends 3/31/2010, so hurry up. Got tango red with the black interior-very sharp! In 2-3 years, I will buy another. My 2008 averaged 29.5 mpg in sub-freezing temps to 38.9 mpg on trip to Virginia of 400 miles. Other than oil changed, I put no money into this car for 2 years. So, when I bought my 2010, I did not get the extended warranty. I drive 60 miles a day, so lease was not an option. Great little car!

Just purchased this vehicle today to replace '96 Accord Ex with over 475,000 miles. My wife and I took two test drives and they both went well and the comfort level is outstanding. Stepping up to the EX and EX-L package provides a major leap in comfort and some added safety as well. If it is in your budget, it's well worth the upgrade. This car confirms my belief that the civic is the absolute best car in America when taking into consideration the overall cost, value, reliability, safety, fuel economy, and quality. I would challenge anyone to beat it because there would certainly be few competitors.

Phillipsburg-Easton Honda here in NJ provided a very positive buying experience. The Honda LX I purchased is giving me exceptional gas mileage, the car is tight, the ride is smooth and quiet. The design and layout of the dashboard is "different" than other cars I've had but now that I'm driving it, I like it very much. Good thinking by Honda.

I've had my Honda Civic for a little over 6 months now. I LOVE IT!!!. In my opinion is the very best in it's class. Performance, power, handling is great. My favorite feature FUEL EFFICIENT. In the City I get an average of 32 -34 Miles for Gallon. In the Highway for Long Trips, you can get 37-40 Miles per gallons of course the depending on the speed, and terrain you encounter, But if you drive this car at 65 MPH, you can easily get 40 Miles per gallon.

I had a 2005 VP same as the 2010 I have now, big difference. The 2005 had keylock doors, smaller dashboard, a lid to the center console, ya really. I would have thought it would have new upgrades, not take away upgrades. I am so upset with how they took away minor options, that I thought were standard. You can hear the road noise a lot more in the 2010 then the 2005 too. All in all I am not happy with the new one, the car has made odd noises since day 1 and I have never heard a car sound like that before. But when I take it in, no noise. The 2005 had a grinding noise in the brakes, I take it in 5 times and the 5th time they find sand, and find mine was not the 1st to have that problem.

Gas mileage is much better than the sticker says 32 city, 40 highway. If fuel economy, reliability, safety and a decent ride are your requirements, the civic is for you. The only thing I don't like are the tires, Continental tires are noisy and do not ride as well as most other brands. I have noticed this on other cars I have driven as well. I will be installing Michelin tires.

Today was a great day! I left the house at 10am and by 11am I was the owner of another Civic LX and was ecstatic! I was sad a bit, as I am retiring a 1998 Civic LX that has been with me through thick and thin and is a great car! I got the Urban Titanium Metallic and am loving it. The ride is so smooth and the new warranty is AMAZING!!! It covers virtually EVERYTHING!

This is a follow up from my review of one month ago. I have since downgraded the build quality from a 9 to a 4 and the comfort from an 8 to a 7. I'm not sure how I missed it on my road test or first week or so of driving but this car is NOISY, especially road noise. The AC is a joke. If you are driving for any period of time (for me 20-30 minutes) your leg may fall asleep as the seat does not go back very far which can cause you to arch your foot. I am 6 ft. even. I wish I had read the reviews more closely. Shame on me.

Cute car with great gas mileage. I am a first time Honda owner. The sound system sounds fine to me. There is significant road noise but I just turn up the radio and it doesn't bother me. My only complaint is that the seats are very uncomfortable. My Toyota is much more comfortable. The dash is impressive. I don't mind the emergency brake placement either. If Honda's are as good as everyone says, I will drive this one for a long time.

Just purchased this week and traded in a diesel 2005 VW Passat Sedan. Plan to hand over the keys to teenage daughter in 1.5 years as her first car. Black exterior with LX-S trim looks sweet; black cloth interior looks better than the gray. Was concerned about going from a diesel back to gas engine, but I am impressed with the acceleration the car has. Good build quality, and the entry price and nameplate could not be beaten.

Engineer came from Honda to do test drive with me. Even he heard the same noise, which I felt. To duplicate the issue. Honda Engineer drove another new Honda civic 2010 Lx, he felt same problem on the new car. & he mentioned to me. That’s way this car designed. You have live with issue. Please DO NOT BUY this car. It’s unsafe to drive on highway.
