Official report. Experienc with my 2017 Accord

Bruce W., 05/04/2019
2017 Honda Accord Touring V-6 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 6A)

To me the car looks balanced in regards to design. No excessive curves or bends. But where did the sliding armrest go? So I bought it new with every option, feature, and warranties I could get. And good thing.. I currently have 19k miles. Repairs, from the beginning the deck behind the back seat was on service bullitin due to excessive vibration. It is cheap and flimsy plastic, not sturdy like my previous Accord. The rear view mirror and camera were loose and vibrating when the car was moving. Both replaced 5k miles, 8k miles 3 rims were peeling and chipped. All 3 replaced by tire and wheel warranty. Total transmission was replaced under warranty at 9k. Both headlight assembly replaced at 10k. Front passenger bumper sensor replaced, AC condenser replaced, both visors replaced. Sensing never really work well enough to mess with it, but stopped working at 12k and replaced. I recently had to have another rim sent to repair bc of peeling clear coat. The fuel pump is being replaced under warranty and the recent fire hazard recall is being "corrected" as we speak. Acceleration is delayed by a full second when punching it which is dangerous when you are trying to avoid an accident. Steering is not speed sensitive, and is too loose at high-speed driving to be safe. One little bump at 120mph and your in trouble. Power and exhaust sound is throaty when is different but ok. The v6 is appropriate for this car, but considering the cars weight, size engine, and being a front wheel drive? I'm constantly squeeling the tires when dry, or just spinning in place if it's wet on city road conditions. I try to duck when that happens so no one sees me. 😂

278 hp with great mileage is the best of both worlds. 0-60 mph in under 6 seconds, 30 mpg on the highway. The only complaint is the electronics. The bluetooth is terrible. 2 years into leasing car and the dealership had to replace both display screens because the bluetooth stopped working as well as the clock. The bluetooth is not much better now after repairs. If it were not for the poor electronics I would purchase the car at the end of the lease.

Back to Honda after 30 years

You will like the six speed manual if you don't have to drive in stop and go traffic a lot. Put the car in eco mode and set cruise at 70 and expect 37 miles per gallon or more on long trips even loaded down. My last Honda accord was noisy and this one seems to carry on that tradition with some wind noise. Not as many buzzy rattles as my last accord though. I occasionally drive on 6 and 7 hour trips and find the accord does not wear me out like some other cars I have had. The steering was skiddish till the tires were broke in but at 47,000 miles the steering is smooth and the wheel doesn't shake or vibrate. Tires are wearing evenly and they are not bouncing or hopping at any speed. Brakes are still working good even though I am pretty hard on them. I have noticed the tiniest bit of shimmy when i am stopping but I had the same issue on other cars after 50k of hard stopping short like I sometimes do. All in all I think Honda did a good job with the 2017 accord and I hope when the time comes I can still get another one like this one.

Not all dealers are the same. Some will charge you for a certified vehicle; my dealer did not. Some don't negotiate; mine did. Do your homework on how much your car is worth--even checking the buying cars sites. Great info out there but you have to look.

So far the car has performed well but the instrumentation interface continues to be confusing needs a complete redesign. It badly needs additional sensors to monitor blind spots in the traffic. On cold days if the battery level is low, the car can't be started but the instrument panel does not warn you about the battery low level status.

We've had a 99' and an 05' and they were great cars also. I bought my 2017 in 2018 with 17K miles and we are just starting 2021 and I have 42K. I wanted the 2017 because it was the last V6 for the Accord or so they say. I traded up from a 1999 with 270K miles that I had purchased from my co-worker with 223K. I love this car and everything about it, but most favorite thing is that great V6 engine with 282 HP, man that thing goes! My wife has the Acura's Flagship 2005 RL and my car has most of the same features as that car has but it cost $50k. The fit and finish of this car is spot on and the materials are great. I am big into detailing my own cars and it cleans up very nicely. There is a reason why the Accord has made the 10 Best year after year!

Thing looks hot, but skip the CVT

Michael P, 06/21/2022
2017 Honda Accord Sport Special Edition 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl CVT)

Title comes first, the CVT. My car is sitting at just about 103,000mi right now and I purchased it just over a year ago at 77,000 which puts me well above the average in annual driving miles but nothing exceptional. I am the second owner so far everything has been... acceptable. Driving this car for long periods of time back-to-back (as I do) is awful. The transmission cannot handle heat and starts to whine and jerk. It makes stop-and-go driving unbearable. I've taken it to 3 separate shops and all of them tell me that everything is fine and that it's just "how it is". I have yearned since the 2nd month of ownership for the ability to go back and rethink this decision. This car would be perfect either has the i4 6mt or the v6 6at. Safety & Economy: As for everything else with the car, it's more than great. Fuel economy is excellent (heavy-footed delivery driver, averaging about 25-28mpg even leaving the car on all the time), the car looks badass and is hot as hell (the 19" Sport rims looks really good, the taillights look great at night and at day, the headlights (LED bulbs installed by past owner) are the best I have ever seen, it's comfortable, and it is hands-down the easiest car to drive. The A-Pillar blindspot is a bit cumbersome and commonly hides pedestrians at intersections, but you get used to it. Interior: My model (Sport SE) is refreshingly basic. There aren't and drivers assist BS and the car just goes and you press the pedal and it stops when you press the other one. The sound system in the car (Base 4-Speaker or Opt. 7-Speaker) is abysmal. I ripped out the head unit, replaced the 4 speakers, added the 2 tweeters, put in a 10" subwoofer, and insulated the trunk lid, spare-tire compartment, rear deck, license plate, and underneath the rear seats, and finally, Honda's budget cuts are resolved. Driving: While the car handles predictively, it isn't all that fun, it isn't amazingly responsive, nor amazingly composed, but it is safe. At the end of the day, this car *looks* like an E-Class & a 5-Series, but it isn't, and the consumer should be aware of this before buying it. The takeaway? This car looks hot, the V6 is fast, and the I4 is really efficient. If you're normal and just looking for something reliable, comfortable, safe, and sufficient, the I4 CVT is great, but if you're looking to *spice it on up a bit*, spring for a MT or a V6. While your bank account might not be pleased, you will be much more satisfied.

Perfect, but...

The car is excellent, comfortable, starts right up, almost no maintenance than oil, brakes and tires. The only two problems are the infotainement screen is laggy and sometimes just freezes... The other problem is the small door trim piece at both rear door windows that started rusting for no reason. I sand them once a year and spray a black coat of paint over them. Otherwise, the car is great. If you are like me, try and find good soft tires for the summer for more comfort. I like the sporty car look, not needing the actual cornering or grip of sport 19 inch tires.

Near top end Honda competes with higher end cars

Bart Charlow, 09/20/2017
2017 Honda Accord EX-L 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl CVT)
1 of 1 people found this review helpful

We compared to the Acura models and found the near top end Honda to be a much better car and deal (surprised!) While the car is brand new, given past experience with half a dozen Hondas, I expect reliability and repair needs to be excellent. Honda servicing is quite good and an Accord is much less expensive to maintain than a Lexus or Acura. This car drives very well. Much better seating and entry/exit height than previous models. Very good visibility (better than the Acura) and better ride than previous models. It's still an Accord, so it isn't really cushy, but it's tighter to handle more like a sporty car without the drawbacks of a sports car. Exterior has too much chrome for my taste, but overall looks good. Interior is well done. Controls a bit daunting at first, but well laid out. We did NOT get the navigation, as it is unnecessary with GPS on phone, but we did pony up extra for the parking lidar and it seems worth it. The automatic right turn camera is a really great feature, but cannot fathom why they didn't do it for left turns as well. Rear camera works well. Overall a very nice car with a nice ride and look. I do wish Honda gave more color choices, though.

This car has more features than one will master in 6 months. The ride is smooth and powerful. The interior is quiet. There are numerous safety features that are designed to keep the driver safe. The only quibble is the mileage, but we opted for that with th 6 cylinder model.

Purchased used with 24k miles Overall seems great so far, the CVT leaves some acceleration to be desired (0-40 sucks, anything faster is fine) but with 35mpg on the highway I can’t complain! Stock speakers are truly awful, I paid for an aftermarket system. The car is extremely comfortable to sit in and to drive. CVT has smooth consistent acceleration when you aren’t gunning it. I believe there is a service bulletin out for the transmission, and I’ve heard you should flush the transmission fluid ever 30k, no big deal. I fully expect it to last until 200k miles, it sounds fantastic and feels like quality throughout!

We are Honda owners who like the reliability and long life of our previous Honda autos. We have not had this Honda long enough to rate many of the above catagories. So far we are happy with our purchase. The front seats are a little low for a shorter person and somewhat difficult for entering and exiting.

This is my second Honda Accord. I owned the first one for 14 years. Very reliable car. (Update: I just bought my leased car. Easy process). The new Accord has more power for a 4 cylinder and handling is even better than my 2003. While it offers a lot more entertainment options I am not thrilled with the touchscreen controls. (I decided I could live with the controls). The steering wheel controls do help. Overall very happy with the Accord. My friend just bought a new 2020 Honda Accord EX and loves it (Although car manual could offer better guidance).

The main problem apparently is the discomfort in the ride. The suspension feels like a sports car and give a very bumpy ride. I asked if it came with adjustable shock absorbers, it doesn't. Many good features including acceleration, brakes, steering, gas mileage above that advertised. Very local 24 mpg, open road 35 to 40 mpg. Seats are somewhat small and hand brake in center is kind of obsolete. If you like the sports feel, this is your car. Update 11/24/18 I traded this car a few months ago for a 2017 Buick Lacrosse. I find it more to my liking with a nice ride and a feeling of safety. The tires seen to be firmly on the road with a sense of stability even over rough roads.

I've driven Honda cars since 1987 last one purchased was in 2000 always reliable had the EXL and manual. The radio and road noise were both terrible but since it worked and was paid for kept driving it until 2017. Of course the first cars I looked at were Honda Accord and CRV. Both drove ok.it was just the quality didn't seem to be there even leather didn't look as good as in the old days. Tried to locate a civic hatchback to drive but none were available where I was shopping. CRV compared to Nissan Rogue seemed so light weight I backed off of it. One Honda dealership we drove over to it talked with the internet sales trying to get a price. He didn't get back with us until several weeks later after we had already purchased another car. Still didn't have a price only asked if we were interested. To me Honda has cheapened up the looks and feel some much after thirt years I had to choose another brand

The car itself is great albeit a little more still than I like and road noisy. Many of the driving aids are little more than half-steps, e.g.; blind spot detection is only in one side, why not both? … the adaptive cruise will not stop the car … the lane departure system constantly challenges the driver over who's going to steer the car. The nav and radio requires paging multiple screens to get to what you want … this can quite a distraction.

Look out for a good financial deal,) if you can, because otherways I see it a better (and nicer!!) model than the 2018 equivalent.

Hideous Wheels

I have owned 3 Accord Sedans, all EXL, both 4 and 6 cylinders. Think the car itself is the best on the road. I would have purchased a new one last week except for the only available wheel on every car on every lot ... talking the EXL4. Hideous wheels, cheap looking, not the least bit refined or classy, why belies the rest of the car. I would never buy a car with those wheels. Brain dead on the part of Honda.

Downgrade from 2014 Honda Civic

Patricia C, 12/31/2017

Now that I've had a couple of months to experience the 2017 Honda Accord, i truly regret not buying my old 2014 Honda Civic instead of leasing this car. I had assumed future versions of a vehicle would be an upgrade, not downgrade. In terms of voice recognition, the 2014 was superior in every way. The Accord has very limited cellphone compatibility. My OnePlus phone was compatible with the 2014 Civic, but not the 2017 Accord. In fact, the 2017 Accord supports very few manufacturers (Alcatel, Apple, Blackberry, Coolpad, HTC, LG, Motorola, Samsung, ZTE), and among the manufacturers, very few models, except for Samsung and LG. I don't know why they're favoring Korean manufacturers, but there it is. Even Google is not on the list. Unless your phone is on the list, you can't use the voice dialing feature at all. The calling process is now much more cumbersome. With the 2014 Civic, all you had to do was press the talk button and say the name of the person you are calling, then the phone would dial. With the Accord, you have to go through a ridiculous menu system, and that's if your phone is compatible. I find it easier to just connect to bluetooth and dial from the phone, making the process rather unsafe as compared with the 2014 Civic. The mileage is horrible on this car. i drive about 75% city, 25% highway, and the mpg averages 19.5. The Civic was smaller, but the mpg averaged 28, with 80% city and 20% highway. Being a larger vehicle, the Accord has a larger engine, and that shows in the added power. It is less responsive and less maneuverable than the Civic. The Civic would respond as soon as either the gas or brake pedals were engaged. it also had a fairly tight turning radius. The Accord, well... The best features of this car are the automatic headlights and heated leather seating. Automatic headlights are great for those who forget to turn on the headlights at night. While the interior is roomier than the 2014 Civic (the 2017 Civic is larger), the one item I wish they would change is enlarge the center storage console, which has been reduced in size. I use that storage area more often than I would the glove compartment due to proximity to the driver's seat. If the cellphone issue isn't restored to something similar to the 2014 Civic (all new Hondas have the same cellphone system) in the next 3 years, this will likely be the last Honda I'll ever lease.

Specious - Old int design for year 2017

Cons: Key has been designed by person whos IQ is less than sack of potato. Any adult person cannot lock the car with such a small buttons. I locked it as I was running late and it opened the trunk in heavy rains. This has happened many times as buttons on key are sooooo small its usable by toddler only. Interior is so lame that you dont even have good storage under the arm. The desk/gps/navigation screen is good size but underutilized for non-gps option. Pros: Very specious on back seats (width), length is good too. Pickup is good compared to Camry. I have been using this for 6mths only. Will come back to add more...

I've owned seven Honda's over the years. By far, my favorite is the Honda Accord EX. Fully loaded, it has every creature comfort one could want: heated seats, heated side mirrors, keyless entry, remote ignition, great mileage, amply rear seating and trunk space, smooth riding, Apple car play, GPS navigation, back-up camera, lane-changing camera, and more! Best car ever.

I love this car. The 278 hp engine is almost scary when you open it up. It's fast. But the best part of the car is how smooth it is. Cruising down the highway or on a winding mountain road, it's a joy to drive. It's got an awesome sound system, room in the trunk for four sets of golf clubs (and a pass through for when I need to buy 2 x 4 lumber), it looks great with the black leather, and it's rock solid.

had some issues with the dealer not being prepared for what I was looking for, however, the car pretty much sold itself. I was trying to decide between the Civic or Accord and went with the Accord because of how much more room in the cabin there was compared to the Civic. At 6'4" I fit well in the front seats of either model but would not do too well in the back of the Civic. I have no issue in the back of my Accord along with the rest of my family and friends that are all over 6 feet tall.
