The 2014 Honda Accord EX-L 4cylinder

I have driven about 23000 miles on my Accord prior to writing this review. This is my 3rd Honda and the interior in this trim level is upscale and quieter than previous Hondas. The CVT transmission is responsive and takes a little getting used to and does make an annoying whining noise at times. However the car is responsive and provides you with adequate power when needed. The Accord handles well especially with the lighter 4 cylinder chain driven engine. I really like the electric assist power steering, it makes a big difference. The infotainment system on this trim level and higher is not as complicated and hard to use as the automotive press and many YouTube reviewers will lead you to believe. It's a Honda so maintenance is minimal change the oil when the maintenance minder warns you, rotate the tires and follow the "manufacturer's" maintence schedule and it will provide you with many years and miles of reliable service. I am unsure of the overall longevity and durability of the CVT only time will tell. The EPA fuel economy estimates seem very optimistic compared to what my onboard mileage computer is telling me: about 24-25 mpg in a combination of city & highway driving.

We have had our new Accord for about a month and a half and put on about 4K miles, including a 3K mile trip. The new accord is a very smooth car, especially around town, and gets excellent gas mileage. We have always bought the V6 model, and traded a 2007 EXL-V6 for the new one. I was reluctant to buy a 4 cyl. but a test drive impressed me. Indeed, it does have plenty of acceleration and so far the CVT is very nice. Some have said that the CVT roars when you accelerate, but we find it to be similar to the V6 roar when it downshifts. It doesn't accelerate quite as fast as the 07 V6, but it was more than adequate when merging on the interstates. Our gas mileage was 37 mpg for the trip.

This Accord is better than me

I rent all makes and models of cars for work (I travel quite a bit). I don't work for, or have any affiliation, with any car brand. I can say the Accord (I have a 2014 EXL) was my favorite in the mid-size lot on build quality, engine design, ride, and comfort. It's as if Honda knows this is a big seller car, and so puts in even a little extra engineering thought into their top seller. Paradoxically, yes, the Honda is a toaster in one respect (there are so many out there); however, it's this very reason the car is so well designed.

Buying considerations vs competitors

Considered Mazda6, Accord, TLX, Camry and Fusion. Ruled out last 2 for styling and reliability reasons respectively. Based on reviews and idea that I want something not everyone else has, Mazda6 was the front runner. Then I test drove all three. If price was somewhat close, I would have likely bought TLX (traded in a TL) but its a new model(no haggling) so price differential was just too much. Really liked the drive of the Mazda as do most people. Then drove the Accord and was actually surprised at how much I liked the drive and feel. It just felt good on the road and quiet. Not saying it drove better than Mazda, but pretty close. In the end, the Honda reliability and "feel" won me over.

I bought my 2014 Accord 2.4 EX-L one and a half month ago. The first time, due to I just moved to Georgia, they denied to give me a road test with another state's driver license. The first time when I received it, it was a good car. But after 3 weeks, the Forward Collision Warning poped up random while nothing in front of my car and the camera was clear. I took it to Honda Service for 4 times about this problem. They told me that they checked everything and nothing wrong. When I drove the car home, it happened again and they told that it was weird situation. I need to bring it many weeks to check this problem, but nothing solved. The other problem is about the noise from the windows.
