Now has an oil leak at 40,000mi. Apparently very common on this model due to a poorly designed and shoddily constructed oil coolant lines. GM apparently not owning up to the problem. Not an expensive fix but a real reliability issue going forward. Wonder what other shortcuts might be lurking in this vehicle. Coolant leak at 50,000 mi. Needed a new radiator.

Fantastic Truck, 4 Cylinder diesel

After 34 years in either Toyota, Lexus or Land Rover products I ventured out to GMC due to the available diesel engine (fuel economy), easier entry, better towing and incredible cabin comfort. This truck is as quiet as any Lexus I've been in and great ride comfort. I'm not into serious off-road driving anymore so the lower entry height is great. There is only 1 inch difference in ground clearance between my GMC and the Tacoma but it's definitely easier to get into for my wife when she's wearing heels. As for the turbo diesel it's performance is as good as any gas engine in it's class but add the extra torque and now I can tow up to 7600lbs but what's really amazing is averaging over 30 miles per gallon on the highway and 24 or better combined highway/city. My previous Land Rover required premium fuel so the upcharge for diesel is a wash. I figured the extra fuel economy will pay back the additional cost of the diesel engine is about 2 years. In other words this is a quiet, nice truck with great fuel economy, incredible payload all in a midsize truck package that is easier to park than full-size and draws looks wherever it goes. I definitely enjoy the better seating arrangements as the Tacoma always felt like you were sitting just above the floor even with the power seats. Technology wise this truck is way ahead of the Toyota as 4wheel disc brakes are standard on the GMC and Tacoma is still using drum brakes on the rear and no 4wheel disc brake is available.

Could have been a 5 star review

Couple of issues with build quality and cheap short cuts with lighting. The A/C system. GM went with the new R 1234yf refrigerant. As such, The A/C compressor is noisy reported as due to the elevated density of the refringent. This was also a problem with the Cadillac XTS. As such, this a distraction to the quietness accolades given for the cabin noise. GM cheapen out on the headlight and did not go with the LEDs or LED tail lights. LED lights alone would have put them over the top when comparing to the Nissan and Toyota. The 4WD button is in a poor location on the left side below the steering wheel and can't be seen easy by the driver. Now got the good. Yes the cabin in general is quite and the truck handles well. It is a please to drive. Would I buy it again given options. Indeed I would.

I got the SLT with Tow package. 4wd for the winter and great all season street biased tires. Still pretty good off-road. Struggled towing a 4,000 LB dual axle boat.

I love the ride quality, it's quiet, controls are easy. No Homelink in a $40K+ truck is ridiculous. Thing is a tank in the snow, has a beautifully appointed interior, and is way sharper than other trucks in the midsized class.

Denali overrated and overpriced when you consider the options. Very disappointed that my truck did not have the following: Front parking sensors, no homelink, (garage door opener) cross traffic sensors, power mirrors, no signal indicators in mirrors, running boards (standard on Denali) that are cumbersome to use (PIA) , no LED headlights. These are items I expected to be standard on the Denali and they were not. Buy the Canyon one model down and add the options you prefer and save yourself some $. Your paying a lot for the Denali name......jOn a more positive note I do really like the truck. Quite a good ride, good suspension, steering response very good, and the engine has plenty of power. Wish it had a better growl ! Kind of wimpy sounding. Oh, I almost forgot saying....the front collision avoidance system is a joke. It really does NOTHING meaningful to help avoid a collision. My 2017 Infinity QX 80 safety devices put this truck to shame.

We bought the SLE in Crew Cab with the 3.6 liter. Pickup is good/ handling is good/highway ride is great/ a load smooths out the ride. Gas mileage averages around 19-20 mpg in mixed city highway driving. Highway mileage on a 16 hour drive averaged around 23-24 mpg at around 75-80 mph. Leg room in the back seat is adequate, but bearable. Control layout is good, electronics are easy to use. Apple care play is quick to logon. Ease of use is good. Sound from the standard radio is ok. Base is good. Visibility is good, headlight power is ok. Ther standard foglights are useless. An upgrade to LID bulbs is a must. Seating is good, not great. Overall a paretty good truck.

I love the interior and heated seats! I get a lot of complements on the looks. Haven't had any problems, drives and rides solid and pretty smooth. My only issue would be how the transmission shifts, I think it should be smoother. Plenty of power thou! Great gas mileage avg 18 in town.

Made The Right Choice

Leased a 2018 Canyon Denali and it has been a great truck so far. At 24,000 miles, nothing unusual mechanically and it's hands down the best handling truck I've ever been behind the wheel of. Comfortable interior, handles beautifully and looks great. I have black with black wheels. My only complaints are that the Android Auto can be finicky at times and on a bumpy road the truck is a bit more rattly than I'd prefer but overall, it's not a problem. The backseat is spacious enough for adults to sit in and the heated steering wheel is something I can now never live without. Mine has the 3.6L V6 engine and that is the engine I'd recommend getting. I test drive a 4cyl model and it felt considerably more sluggish, the V6 makes a noticeable difference, particularly on the highway and still gets good MPG for a vehicle in this class.

I have had my canyon for not even a year. It's been in the shop for an exhaust sensor that cost me over $300 to have it replaced. The second time it was in the shop for a bad turbo. This time it cost me over $3000. I'm not to impressed with the truck and I regret buying the Duramax.

I traded in a middle of the line 2018 Toyota Rav4 for a 2018 Canyon Denali thinking the Denali was the top of the line! But I found it had less options than the middle of the line 2018 Toyota Rav4. No side collision avoidance, no active cruise control and no back up sensors. And this is top of the line?

Factory defects and flaws

Purchased the truck on a Friday evening/night... my fault for not looking over carefully... it was dark. Door had paint scraped off where it hit another vehicle, both rear quarter panels have paint defect and one has been repainted...other side pending, terrible vibration at 80mph, and now transmission downshifts abruptly from 2nd into 1st....my truck is a 2018 All Terrain with 10,500 miles... I'm slowly losing faith in it and shopping for new truck.

I have just had this truck for 2 days. And I dread every minute with it. The truck is always pulling to the right as if it was in a crash. It has a wireless phone charging port. And none of our families phones fit. The seats are terrible. Would rather be standing up. To get out is another challenge. It would be ok without the sidesteps. But these block me from getting out. Always vibrating. Engine is extremely slow, sounds terrible. I have the crew cab and I still can’t fit three people in the truck. I can barely fit a fishing box of mine. Ride quality is terrible. Would rather be driving in a Miata.

I went from a Lexus GX470 to this as I wanted a truck that is not too big but has power and some off road capability. I have the diesel version All Terrain (couldn't select that from drop down but i do have it!) and what an awesome truck. 90% of my driving is on the highway and alone but my grown up kids can fit in the back comfortable. Drives great on highway - hard to keep it under 130 KM/H and has the gas mileage of a civic. It is as quiet as my Lexus at highway speeds. High bed sides with a diamondback tonneau make it great for lugging stuff around to the cottage. Don't know about durability yet as i had my Lexus for 15 years and 475,000 Km.
