2024 GMC Acadia Consumer Reviews

An Exciting Experience
Have purchased only SUVs in the past 35 years. The Acadia is not a totally new experience as it does have some similar desirable characteristics that led me to consider. Size, seating & 4 wheel-drive were important, but interior quality and comfort are also high and comparable to the Denali SUVs we enjoyed in two previous GM purchases. Fit and finish are high and the quiet ride in traffic and on x-way is excellent. The electronics are current and give the vehicle the capability to deliver a lot of "hands-free-utility" allowing driver to focus on the road. I have leaned on navigation systems to help assist our travels for almost 25 years and the system in this vehicle is easy to use and with its large screen and data display instills a lot of confidence for the operator. Hope it will do so in large metro areas like Atlanta and Dallas where the roads seem to never be the same month to month. My only concern is the 2.4 liter engine, a real step-down from the 6.2 liter SUV. It seems satisfactory in the city and for cruising on x-ways, but in desperation mode, when a burst of speed is desired, it sounds like it is working very hard.
Perfect For What I Was Looking For
I had a few requirements for the next vehicle I purchased: it had to be comfortable and good for long road trips; as an EMT/Firefighter, it needed to be able to do well when responding with inclement conditions; it had to have the latest technology and it had to look sharp. I must have spent 6 months researching every three row SUV out there. The GMC Acadia was not on my list mostly because of the historically negative reviews from the likes of Consumer Reports and Car and Driver for any GM product. I am so glad I ignored both of these biased publications and chose the 2024 GMC Acadia AT4. The All-Wheel Drive System and elevated ground clearance will get me through the deepest snow. The technology is very advanced. I love the built in Google Maps and the large main interface screen. Super Cruise is a dream. We just took a 3,000 mile roundtrip to Florida and the Super Cruise worked perfectly - it was a pleasure to rest both my arms and legs while driving. The seats were very comfortable in both the first and second rows. There is even ample space in the third row if you need to transport additional passengers. While the engine does whine slightly on hard acceleration, while cruising the car is very quiet. The sound system sounds fine. The all-terrain tires have great grip but tend to be a little noisy. I'd change them for better tires when the time comes. This is a perfect vehicle for what I was looking for. Before you decide on one of the "highly rated" consumer reports vehicles I recommend you give the Acadia a look. GMC has done an excellent job with this vehicle.

WOW! What a pleasure to drive
I had purchased my 2021 GMC Terrain SLT in Nov 2020 and like it, but it was not quite roomy enough with my 6'2" 240 lb frame sitting in the driver's seat. Then I saw and read about the 2023 Acadia being put on steroids and creating my longer, wider and taller 2024 Acadia, so I went to a dealership to sit in and drive one to see for myself. Wellll, 3 hours later, on June 24th, 2024, I was driving my new 2024 Crystal Metallic (looks like Eggplant color and real pretty), Acadia home. The seats are very comfortable and has a ton of room. Rides smooth and gets "on it" when you have to pass another vehicle. The 2.5 L 338 HP beats my 2021 Terrain w/1.5 L and 170 HP hands down. I just installed some GMC floor liners, and they look so nice. It's taking a while to learn all the icons and the fact that the Acadia doesn't come with a printed Owner's Manual was not to my liking, although you can call it up on the 15" main screen and read it online on mygmc.com. My salesman even went waaaay out of his way to print me a 373-page hard copy and put it in a 3-ring binder....making it really easy to read. UPDATE: I purchased my GMC Acadia in June 2024. I just hit the 4800-mile mark and have made some observations that are just a bit aggrevating. The 15-inch control panel big and easy to see, but sometimes requires touching the icon 2 to 4 times before a chosen icon will activate, such as when I touch the driveway gate icon. I think the pad of your finger has to touch it just right. Also, the icon for changing radio seems to have a mind of its own, when I want to change from FM to Sirius and visa-versa. We really enjoy the ride of the Acadia and comfort of the seats. There is plenty of room in the back to haul just about anything you need.

Well pleased so far!
What a pleasant surprise. This large 3 row has exceeded our expectations in every way. We bought the Denali trim. The interior is outstanding and very versatile. At first I had my reservations buying a 4cyl, but this engine performs so well I don’t miss the V6 my problem laden Kia Telluride had. This vehicle can take most hills without so much as a downshift. I’m getting about 23 mpg average, we’re 70% freeway drivers. Zero issues to report 3800 miles in. I’ll be back to update every quarter. UPDATE- 08/25 @ 32,700 miles. Aside from a few minor trim and tech issues we are still extremely happy with the Acadia. This 4 cyl turbo still amazes me with its power and decent fuel economy. I miss the growl of a V6 sometimes. Still, very happy with the Acadia overall.

5 repairs with 1.5 years of purchasing new
I grew up with GM cars. My first car was a good ol’ Pontiac Grand Am. Had a decent experience with 3 GM cars in a row. So I had decent brand loyalty, but moved on to a Toyota Sienna once we had our 3rd kid and wanted a van. This Acadia was our first “upgrade” from a van. Made it the first couple months with no issues. First repair covered by warranty was a complete overhaul/replacement of the brake module (I should add here that I went into the dealership for an oil change, they stated there was a brake sensor alert - there was not prior to going in for the oil change - and they could not resolve it, even after replacing the sensor, then brake pads, so they replaced the entire module). 2nd issue - radiator leak. Apparently a known issue. 3rd issue - steering wheel finish just started coming off. This might seem petty, but to pay 65k+ after taxes and have that happen after a year, yes, I’ll have it fixed please. 4th issue - 3rd row seats fold down and open up only via a power button. No manual option, which I find kind of silly. But the 2/3 seat of the 3rd row malfunctioned and intermittently worked. 5th issue - check engine light came (air induction issue). This is all within 1.5 years of ownership. Thank goodness, covered by warranty. But I am incredibly disappointed in my new, expensive trim level GMC vehicle purchase. We now have to decide if we get rid of it before the 36k bumper-to-bumper warranty expires or keep it and purchase an extended warranty. In addition to my repairs, I agree with others above - the wireless charging dock is junk. I could ask this to be fixed but I’ve read it’s just poor design. It haphazardly charges my phone, so I don’t even rely on it. I still have a cord plugged in. Additional critiques: The auto-brake safety feature is INCREDIBLY sensitive. I eventually turned it off because it erroneously slammed on the brakes multiple times. Giving me multiple heart attacks. And two times, it was in traffic slamming on the brakes in a way that I’m sure the person behind me thought I was brake-checking them. Saving grace is 1. No one behind me ran into me and 2. The feature can be turned off. It comes with it automatically turned on though, so be aware. When the car is cold (as in freshly started, not cold out), it always downshifts in a jerky manner when slowing down the first couple times. I should probably have it checked out. But honestly (and unsurprisingly so), I have service fatigue…every time I go in, it’s always a day-long or longer appointment and of course, zero loaners are ever available. Super inconvenient. The air flow/vent placement leaves some to be desired. It’s hard to change the vent angle to hit your upper body and face very well. And I’m not even that tall. The chrome around the steering wheel - this I did not consider when looking at purchasing the car. It’s a shiny chrome, so when the sun hits certain parts of the steering wheel or entertainment system just right, it reflects off them and blinds you. Not sure somehow thought that was a great idea… 3rd row seats being only electronically functioning. Horrible idea. Eventually something will go wrong and it’s going to cost money. Not sure what was wrong with just having a lever to manually fold them. Random annoyance - the garage door programming. It’s not on the rear view mirror, and instead on the touch screen. Programming is easy enough, but if you ever have 2 garage doors programmed, have fun resetting 1. You can’t just reprogram door 1. You have to delete it, but then when you add it back in, it becomes garage door 2. So the only way to get your main back to number 1 is to delete the 2nd (which has now become door 1 according to the menu), and reprogram both. 100% first world problems, and hopefully something that can be fixed with a software fix, but pretty annoying. It also takes multiples taps/presses to get the garage door to work. Just doesn’t function well IMHO. The pros: The turbo engine is decent. It doesn’t feel like a 4-cylinder and gets phenomenal gas mileage. Decent size tank. Says it requires mid-grade though, FYI. Seats are very comfy. Also - I have a white interior and it cleans up well, even with the junk that kids track in. Super Cruise works really well. I’ve never had an issue with it and I use it on long drives (interstate driving, not super congested times). It’s a nice feature to have. I honestly thought I’d hate the new style of shifter - it’s a lever off the steering wheel instead of down where it has been for years. But after getting used to it, I really, really like it. Also thought it would take some getting used to for the camera rear view mirror instead of regular (you can switch back n forth to regular). I really like the rear view camera vs a regular mirror. It was easy to get used to. The trunk space has a little cargo area underneath the floor/bottom. The other 3rd row SUVs I looked at did not have this extra storage. Hope that helps. It’s an overall potentially great design, especially if trust & reliability are regained. Maybe I just got a lemon:/ Hopefully a lot of this is just junk parts sourced during Covid-era production. I do have high hopes for this model in general, but GMC’s got some work to do to rebuild trust in the Acadia. At least the 2024 year anyway.
