Roomy but unreliable. Mechanic's dream.
We bought this car when I was pregnant and hoped for a nice, reliable family vehicle. Its transmission seems to fall apart about once a year. Our mechanic (even though we're in a big city, he knows my voice on the phone) has just let us know that (for the third time) the transmission is going. We could've bought a new car with all the money we've put into payments and car repairs. We love the size of this car, but hate not daring to drive it anywhere. Now we still owe payments on a car we can't drive safely.
not bad, had worse
Bought my 1993 taurus gl in august 07 for $950. Immediately replaced all 3 motor mounts. The car leaks oil from somewhere on the passenger side and burns off the catalytic converter, hence the nickname Smokey. Also the temperature gauge has a mind of it's own, but has never overheated. Other than that, not a bad car. just basic a to b transportation. would NOT take it on a long trip, just doesn't seem THAT reliable.

1993 Taurus GL Wagon
I purchased this vehicle new aand used to commute to work for 6 years. My 19 year old son now drives it. The milage is 115,000. I haad several significant problems from the start including a burst hose and premature brake wear. It ran well for several years then there were more problems starting about 3 years ago. I have replaced the radiator, water pump, the entire steering system, struts, wiper motor and controls, AC compressor, power window and lock switches. I have invested a great deal of money but the car runs well, it's roomy and safe.
93 taurus head gasket problem 3.8 litre
everyone i know told me that the head gasket will go on my taurus at about 70k miles. well the were off by 49 miles. at 69951 mine went. otherwise a decent car.
Great Driving Machine
I bought this car with only 38,500 miles on it and it has (Knock on Wood) had no major problem. The only thing I have had to replace on it is the Mass Air Flow Sensor ($60 at Auto Zone) and the Turn Signal Switch. All in all it has been a great car.
