A comfortable piece of mechanical trash
The title says it all. Nice car when new, soon began to fail mechanically, all in all has been a costly nightmare. At Ford, quality is job what?
i will never own a taurus again
i bought it ten years old ran great the first two months, in the last year i have replaced rack and pinion, air compressor, radiator, thermostat, cooling fan sensor, transmission pan gasket, front brakes, back brakes and a few other repairs that i can't remember what for.It has been in the shop for the past week with a possible broken head gasket!!Looks great but mechanically when it rains it pours with this car!

What was I expecting from a ford?
Wow, i have so many mixed feelings about this car that i dont know where to begin. Yes, i loved the SHO when i first bought it. However, the constant are dissapointing. The transmision on the car has been replaced 3 times before 100k. The electrical system is a nightmare. The coolent system is in disrepair. I will never recomend a ford, unless you are prepared to be wrapped in thier Coccoon of Horrors.
Roomy but unreliable. Mechanic's dream.
We bought this car when I was pregnant and hoped for a nice, reliable family vehicle. Its transmission seems to fall apart about once a year. Our mechanic (even though we're in a big city, he knows my voice on the phone) has just let us know that (for the third time) the transmission is going. We could've bought a new car with all the money we've put into payments and car repairs. We love the size of this car, but hate not daring to drive it anywhere. Now we still owe payments on a car we can't drive safely.
not bad, had worse
Bought my 1993 taurus gl in august 07 for $950. Immediately replaced all 3 motor mounts. The car leaks oil from somewhere on the passenger side and burns off the catalytic converter, hence the nickname Smokey. Also the temperature gauge has a mind of it's own, but has never overheated. Other than that, not a bad car. just basic a to b transportation. would NOT take it on a long trip, just doesn't seem THAT reliable.
