Best Pickup I’ve Ever Owned
Bought my 2004 in 2008 for 5,000, a great deal from a dealer who had n ad on Craigslist. It’s a great truck. 21-22 mpg in the city n 24-25 on the hwy and that’s with a huge 7 ft camper shell. I had to let down the tailgate to hold it. I needed it cuz I’m 6’ 3”. Never had a major problem. It was at 104,000 miles. I’m at 188,000 now 14 years later. I changed the oil every 3-4,000 miles. I won’t get rid of it until it dies or I win the lottery. Lol. It can only pull around 1,3-1,500 lbs. that’s not too bad. I bought a 5x10 cargo trailer to turn into a nice camper. My only problem is being tall there’s not that much leg room so my seat has pushed out the back window about 1” or so. I would not be comfortable otherwise but I’ve yet not being able to seal it good enough without it leaking a bit when it rains. I’ve used strong wide tape and a glue foam but hasn’t worked well yet. Any ideas.

Good little truck.
Bought my 4.0 V6 XLT with the FX4 package a few months back (1 owner $2000 with 96k miles), now at 116k and I'm relatively pleased. It has decent enough power, though it's focused more on the bottom end as opposed to speed, which is to be expected. Though I have to say, for as long as this engine had been in production, you would think Ford could've refined it more to get better MPG. Interior quality is about average for an American car of the time; that is, nothing special, but adequate, with lots of cheap feeling plastics and big panel gaps. The seats have decent side-bolstering, though the back and seat bottom are sorely lacking in any sort of support - they're just flat slabs, nothing more - I had to get a cushion to absorb all the shocks from the road. Space is also a bit of an issue...I'm 6'1" and my head brushes against the roof liner, and my legs are kinda cramped with my knees right up against the instrument panel with the seat in the furthest position. Needless to say the jump seats in the back are a complete joke unless you're a small child, and even then their usefulness is questionable at best. I would've preferred some sort of organized storage bins back there instead. With regard to maintenance, in my time with the truck I've had to replace the thermostat and flush the transmission which has added up to around $700 in repairs. Overall the Ranger has been a good little truck that has performed well in a variety of conditions and I can see why even now it's a very common sight on the road. With a few exceptions it seems to be a truck designed around being a basic, solid, common-sense truck - never letting it's reach exceed its grasp.

Need more ponies
I recently purchased a 2004 Ford ranger XLT 2.3 16v with a 5 speed manual. The truck drives fine but the only thing lacking again is horse power. The vehicle has 143 horse power but feels as though it has 115 horse power.
Solid truck, American Glitches Remain
This truck is still new to me, but I have a strong sense of it already. It's solid, comfortable and powerful, but the build quality is American all the way. I have already had it in the shop for a mis-aligned door and a malfunctioning wiper switch. I have owned a number of imports (Japanese and Korean) and have never had to return them to the dealer the first week. It seems I have had to return every american vehicle I have owned for some type of repair/adjustment. Speaks poorly of American workmanship, I'm sorry to say.
Perfection
Fuel is decent . 4 wheel drive is amazing it won't let you down . truck is worth money if taken care of properly
