I bought the car a few months ago and i absolutely love it. It is fun to drive and fairly fast. It does get the worst gas mileage, but that's the price you pay for 8 cylinders. Some must-have mods are: Flowmaster Dela 40 exhaust with chrome tips, headers, and a 70mm throttle body. I recommend the Edelbrock. I kept the factory intake but put on a Kk&N filter. I also opened up the scoops in the hood so the engine is kept colder. I get 20 more HP in the winter time.

The Money Pit

I was so excited to purchase this vehicle back in 1996. It was so much fun to drive and very comfortable. When the car hit 47,000 miles things went sour. The head gaskets blew and the car was out of commission for 2+ months while waiting for a new engine to replace the damaged lower block. A few months after that, the car was recalled for this problem. Right after that the a/c line broke. I had all the repairs made at the dealer. Then most recently, the engine blew again! I could not believe it. This will make the 3rd engine and it only has 108,000 miles. Based on my experience, this car is THE money pit.

I bought this car used 3 years ago.I have had no problems with it so far, except the alternator which went out at 63000 miles, not a major problem, I've replaced it, now everything is fine.

I bought my hard top GT new in 1996. It been a pretty reliable car with a couple of exceptions. My brakes have lasted 60k miles with hard driving. The only negatives I see is the plastic intake which cracked and was replaced at 50k miles and the throw-out bearing on the clutch start making noise around 20k miles. I plan to purchase a new car this year but I will keep the Mustang for a second vehicle.

all in all it has been an awesome car. the car looks sweet and still can make everyone turn their head. it feels nice to speed up with the 5 speed manual. no serious mechanical problems, except the intake manifold cracking at 58K but taken care of under recall. some of the interior "plastics" squeak on bumpy rides. also on quick acceleration the transmission grinds when shifting to second. a slight lack in HP but exceptable being the first of the 4.6L.
