2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid Titanium 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
9 of 9 people found this review helpful

I drive 35 miles each way to work. Using the ECO I average about 41. Comfort is good. I'm 6'1" 300lbs and have no complaints. I have the titanium version and everything works well, to include the cooling seats. Love them. We looked at the Optima and the Camry but went with the Fusion and have NO regrets. I'm not a Ford guy, I'm a best car for the money guy and this was the best car I've purchased in years. I've bought 11 cars in 9 years and would recommend this car to anyone. Pick-up isn't as quick as one would want, welcome to a hybrid. Still good enough to get out of the way.

Amazing car

2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid SE 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

This 2016 Fusion hybrid SE was the first car I have purchased in 16 years. My previous car, a 1998 Ford Mustang, made it to 250,000 miles before I decided to finally get a new car. (For the record, the Mustang never died, I just wanted something newer.) What a step up this Fusion Hybrid is. For one example, my Mustang had a cd player, and a tape deck from the factory. The Fusion has a cd player, and Bluetooth and satellite radio. Quite a difference! The EPA may rate this at 44 city-41 highway-42 overall, but it is not at all difficult to get much higher mpg. Many times, I have gone on trips of over 30 miles and gotten well over 50 mpg for that trip. You have to learn how to properly drive a hybrid, and the car's displays coach you along. I went on a trip of 120 miles, set the cruise control at 70 mph, and still got 46 mpg on the highway. If I take a very short trip of 2 miles, and stay in EV mode for most of it, I get 87 mpg. I drive most of the time with the eco button on, which places emphasis on fuel economy, and means the car accelerates a bit slower, and the a/c doesn't blow as hard. Still, I bought this car in mid August, when it was in the mid-90s outside, so I used the a/c and still got average mileage over 40 mpg. What prompted me to buy a hybrid? Several things. I wanted my next car to be something new for me, and this is my first hybrid. I want a car that won't suffer if I get stuck in gridlock traffic, and this car doesn't. It happily crawls along in EV mode, rarely using any gas. Finally, I like the idea of fewer of my dollars going to the Middle East. To me, this car really doesn't have a downside. Of course it gets outstanding fuel economy. But it's not gutless by any means. If you nail the throttle, it will move quickly enough to chirp the tires and push you back in your seat, and even more so if you turn off the eco button. It's not a sport sedan, of course, but at the same time, school buses won't beat you off the line, and on the highway I am able to blow past slow moving 18 wheelers effortlessly. I did consider the Fusion Energi, but that car is more expensive, and me being an apartment dweller, I have no place to plug it in at night, so I went with the standard Hybrid, which actually gets better mileage than the Energi does once the Energi is in regular hybrid mode, because the Energi is much heavier due to its larger battery. The ride is very smooth and quiet, I love the silent start, the car looks fantastic inside and out, very classy looking. I got one of the last new 2016's on the lot; in fact they already had some 2017 models there. So, the dealer didn't fight at all when I drove a bargain. I got 0% financing, plus their ad price, plus a rebate from the factory, so my brand new Fusion Hybrid cost less than some of the new 2017 2.5 liter SE's on the same lot. Is there anything I don't like? Well, the A-pillars are thicker than in my old Mustang, which means slightly less visibility. But I have seen much worse in other new cars, some of which have massive, thick A-pillars. And I do admit I miss the growling Flowmaster exhaust of my old Mustang, but using less than half the gas in the same amount of miles more than makes up for it. I'm very pleased with my purchase, and I'd definitely buy it again if I had to. **Update** After 7 months of ownership, it's still an amazing car. I have noticed that cold weather definitely affects the fuel economy, because I have to use the heater and defroster. My average fuel economy per tank of gas dropped from over 45 mpg in the summer to just about 40 mpg in the winter. Now that we're headed back into Spring, and I can turn the heater off, the mpg average is trending up again. Still, we had a harsh winter this year, and thank goodness I had my front wheel drive Fusion. My poor old 1998 Mustang (rear wheel drive) would have been in deep trouble. The Fusion did very well in snow and ice. It's still solid, quiet, smooth, and even has a little new car smell left. No rattles or any other unwelcome surprises, and no reliability issues at all. The Fusion Hybrid will never get your heart racing like a Mustang will, but you'll be pleased with the ride and fuel savings. To sum up this car, it feels completely normal when you drive it, even with the CVT transmission. There's no jerkiness, no strange hesitating, the gas engine doesn't shake the car when it comes on, and most importantly, no lack of power when you need it. It really feels entirely normal. But when you refill the tank and see that you've averaged well over 40 mpg in everyday driving, then you'll be glad you bought it.

Wasn't Looking

2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid SE 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

The time came for a new car and top of the list was a new Fusion. Wasn't looking for a hybrid, but the dealer didn't have the color combination and options that we were looking for in a non-hybrid SE, but they did in the SE hybrid. So we gave it a try. With pricing right on top of non-hybrid models and with the trade, discount and rebates we got a deal that we couldn't refuse, needless to say we bought it that day and have no regrets. Overall the Fusion is a wonderful car. We took it on a long trip from central Virginia to Charleston, SC the second week we owned it and it proved to be most comfortable, far and away better than the '07 Buick we traded for it. My wife and I both are older, heavier and have bad backs and the seats were just plain excellent, even the side bolsters were not an issue and hold you firmly yet comfortably (did I mention that I am "full figured"). We have almost 5k miles on it and trust me I am picky and not one fault to date. Being new to hybrids it has been rather eye opening just how seamless the operation is. The benefit is fewer stops at the pumps and to date I am averaging an indicated 43 mpg, and I truly drive like I always drove, no additional attempts to maximize mileage. Other reviews have indicated that the engine loves the 3000 rpm range and I concur. At times that seems a little high, but it's what the CVT likes, so be it. It is pretty neat to be humming along at 70+ mph on battery though those stints are brief indeed. I too concur with other reviewers and have noticed that 60 mph seems to be a sweet spot for this car. It seems to be the best blend for gas and electric equally sharing the duties of motive power and fortunately for me that's where I spend most of the time, on secondary roads. I will say that I may have had a bit of concern about hilly terrain, but our recent trip to northeast Tenn to visit family put that to rest, our Fusion proved more than up to the task, even with two additional passengers in the car. Am I gushing too much? Now to the most berated of all features - MyFord Touch. Folks I don't have a problem with it. I will not cast aspersions on anyone, but seriously the owner's manual is provided for a reason - read it! People say it is not intuitive enough, but not having had experience with other brands I cannot make accurate comparison but it is far and away better than my wife's 2011 Fiesta's sync. Bluetooth pairs without fuss and Sync even talks you through it. I can easily change radio stations, toggle between other audio functions and make phone calls without issue even with my heavy hillbilly drawl. Even changing climate controls is no great issue as long as you follow directions. You can't go from Iphone to Android or Windows without some adjustment, MyFord Touch is no different. Speaking of Windows, Sync sometimes doesn't play nice with Windows phone, so some of the texting features will be lacking. Otherwise the panel buttons are an easy reach so there is no issue really. Only real issue is if you are a gauge watcher like me it can be a little distracting with the gauge switching between gas and battery operation, just seems to catch my eye easily. Otherwise completely happy with the car and the bonus is an 8 year/100k warranty on the hybrid parts so no worries about battery life! Added 2/27/2016 OK six months later and still no nits to pick. MPG has crept a little higher 44.6 mpg, winter warm ups naturally suck gas, but with gas at $1.40 in central VA who's complaining. Most of my friends who have had the perception that Fusions are rental fleet fodder can't believe the content and comfort of this car. With cheap gas maybe you don't need a hybrid but if I were to trade today I'd get another one. Even my friend who bought a Civic Hybrid about the same time I bought the Fusion wishes he'd have looked at the Fords! Added 8/29/2017 After two and a half years there is really nothing new to tell and still loving the car. At close to 30K the car is bank vault solid - no faults, no trips to the dealer for other than routine services. I am very picky, especially early in ownership to uncover any faults that may pose a problem later, again nothing to pick nits over. I am currently at an indicated 45.3 mpg in combined city/hwy. I will say that on a recent trip to New England we spent more on tolls from central Virginia to New York than gasoline. The one pitfall of the Fusion Hybrid is trunk space. The batteries take up a pretty good chunk. We can still get two very large suitcases, beach chairs, etc in the trunk for a week at the beach, so maybe this is a small nit after all. Cheers!

I just purchased this vehicle 1 week ago 8/17/15 and I love it! Pros: GREAT Gas Mileage if you are a reasonable attentive driver. Comfortable ride quiet ride. Stylish interior design. Cons: Smaller trunk space compared to a vehicle of similar size due to the EV battery. Less leg room compared to a vehicle of similar size. When I drive I use the ECO button to maximize my fuel efficiency. I drive between 60 - 80 MPH and I monitor my driving style when I can. The fuel tank is 13.5 - 14 Gallons and I was able to 432 miles using 10.62 Gallons of gas. My current tank of gas, I am getting 44 - 45 MPG. I will post a follow-up after my next fill up.
