New Truck Buyer Disappointment

There are several things I would like to cover here of all aspects of this truck. But let me begin with my purchasing process. I was so excited when I test drove this truck. It was so spacious and comfortable and the price was right so I got it. I am now about 2 months into buying it and I wish I would have got a Dodge. For one, the electronics are as low as can be in a modern vehicle. There is no heat seater, the backup camera is smaller than my hand, no Sirius XM, etc. The electronics are basic, so don't expect anything wonderful there. The AutoStart/AutoStop that Ford is putting in so many of their vehicles today SUCKS. I can not complain enough about this freaking thing. The vehicle will not remember that I turned AutoStart off, so by default, Ford has it on. So every time I start my truck I have to turn it off so I don't destroy the starter every 10 months. Another thing: I just changed my oil for the first time and the drain plug and filter could not have been designed in a more stupid place. They drain plug has some stabilizer bar 2 inches in front of it so good luck getting your hand in there. And when you do finally get the plug loose, oil shoots out and hits the bar and splatters all over the place so make sure you have plenty of rags and paper towels handy. The filter sits right on top of some metal body work and has tubes hanging right around it so it is hard to turn and oil falls all over the metal piece there. I just had the service engine light come on and plugged in a handy code tool to see what the error was. Turns out there is a misfire in one of my cylinders and some other problem with the cam shaft. Overall this truck has been a nightmare and am possibly thinking about selling. Sad thing is, this was my first truck and I had such high expectations. So disappointed

Don’t waste your money! The engine and ten speed transmission are completely awful. I’ve owned the truck four months and it’s been in the shop twice!

Great Truck if the transmission worked

At about 49k miles transmission kept getting stuck in 7th gear and dropping from 8th gear to 1st. Took to the dealer after waiting a month to get in and they replaced a solenoid on the transmission. Week after I got it back on a trip out of town it dropped out again. 9th to 1st gear. Took it to a Ford 500 miles from home as I was afraid to drive it home. They replaced the valve body and said I was good to go two weeks later. On the drive home it dropped from 4th to first, hesitates and jerks when shifting. Still waiting to get it back into Ford as they said there was a 2 month wait to look at it. So I tried another dealership and none of them will touch it since it had already been worked on. Tried calling FORD corporate and they literally gave me the phone number to the dealership that wouldn't touch it. Useless.

Diesel F-150 Wonderful

I got a 2018 Ford 150 Diesel. I waited for 2 years to make a very objective review. I always had Toyota and as many other fellow reviewers I changed. I had the option to buy a tundra, but it was so bulky and outdated that ford was the best option. Here in Texas diesel has been very good in price sometimes even Lower than regular gasoline. The truck is very comfortable, smooth ride and extremely nice interior. It isa Lariat and 4x4. Towing a 8000 lbs trailer when I moved to a higher altitude was uneventful. Besides it is Diesel engine it is very quiet. It is not a snippy truck to burn tires but you can feel the steady pulling power. I am very happy with this truck and something that I noted is that Doe not devaluates as other similar trucks, keeping a good the reselling price. It is also difficult to get one in the used market because people keep then for longer time. As I am planning to do. I check for recalls and there is one on a ECT valve (?) that was done before the truck leaved the dealership, no more recalls. My truck does not come with the FX4 package for off-roading, but I do not plan to do anything like it. I used to climb a snowy road in NM with a trailer full of construction parts and again the truck was superb. I am not planning to change it, because 2018 was the last year that the truck had a cd player, yes, I am a old school with many cds that I use when traveling. I believe Ford should not decide to stop this device in their trucks. THANKS TO EDMUNDS that allowed me to update my review. May 6-2024: I still own the truck, no recalls. Other than regular oil and filters changes no major problems. Still traveling regularly to New Mexico, excellent fuel efficiency like 30 plus miles per gallon as an estimate, no trailer attached. Has some offers to change it but still declining to do so. UPDATE Nov. 2024 Thanks to Edmunds to allowing me to write this update. By now the last Diesel engine sell by Ford was 2021. Mine has been performing above and beyond expectations. It has 40000 miles in diferent terrains. Mostly highway miles and the economy in fuel is very good getting almost 26-30 miles if keeping a steady pace like large trucks. No recalls except for one for the back lid that was suddenly opening but this has been all along Ford 150 not only diesel. The only thing is that is expensive to maintain because need more motor oil and changing 2 filters instead of one. All the interior and gadgets are still working nicely and I try to keeping it like new. I really love my truck. THANKS TO EDMUNDS that allowed me one more review 05/10/2025. My truck has already 50300 miles. I still do all the maintenance in my local Ford dealer. There has NOT been any recalls excep for the lid at the back of the truck. Mine has been working well. The truck is performing really well, no damage in the undercarriage or the back. No rusting issues. I change already the first set of tires and brake pads. The inside still is pristine with all the buttons and switches working well, front windshield has a crack but I have not changed because is not in my visuals, and is small. I am very satisfied with the truck. It is very economical for the low diesel consumption.

2018 Platinum has more than I ever imagined

This truck is loaded with features I didn't know existed. The 3.5 L V6 with the Eco boost is hands-down the best pick up truck in the world. Featuring the best highway mileage plus the ability to tow 12,000 lbs with more torque than anything except for a deisel. Its the best of both worlds and a truck for the future.
