Steering wheel locked and won't start

My vehicle history includes Ford Explorers from model years 2012, 2016, and currently a 2025 Active model, acquired with minimal mileage. At approximately 945 miles, a complete steering wheel lock occurred during operation, resolving itself after approximately fifteen minutes. Subsequently, at 1224 miles, the vehicle experienced repeated engine shutoffs after shifting into drive, requiring roadside assistance and ultimately a tow to the dealership. Despite diagnostic testing, no fault codes were identified. Following return, intermittent malfunctions in driver lane assist and radio volume controls have been observed. Given these issues at such low mileage, I am highly concerned about the vehicle's reliability and long-term dependability, particularly considering the warranty expiration at 70,000 miles.

Our 2025 Explorer ST Line has been excellent. It's a solid well-built vehicle (no rattles or squeaks) and the engine has more than ample power for acceleration. The interior is high quality for this segment and the technology has been well designed. It's a solid vehicle and I highly recommend it. Before purchasing our 2025 Ford Explorer ST Line, I test drove numerous 3-row SUVs from GMC, Buick, Toyota, Honda, Acura, Kia, Mazda, and Lexus. I did not care for the tech in the GMC and Buick. The Toyota GH had an incredibly cheap interior - I can't understand how automotive reviews don't emphasize that. Mazda was excellent. Acura and Lexus were surprisingly not that much more luxurious from the inside considering the higher price. They require premium fuel too!

new, agate black, rwd serious alignment issues right from the factory. it could just be my unit, but way out of alignment right from the get go. more importantly, steering does not center itself at 35-50 mph, just keeps driving where you leave the steering wheel. had the dealership pick it up. they fixed the alignment issue, but not the steering. i went over there because they said it drove normal and wanted me demonstrate the issue in the presence of a technician. he confirmed that there was something wrong. dealer is giving me a loaner in two weeks to diagnose and hopefully resolve the issue. also, this bugs the sh*t out me: you CANNOT have have outside air come in through the vents without having the fan on. when the HVAC system is off, it shuts down the vents and no outside air will trickle in. i actually wanna report this to google and see if they can update the system and resolve this issue. lastly, some quality control issues. few scratches on the A-pillar, the phone speaker on the roof doesn’t sit right. minor design issue is that the sun shade is kinda small for how big the driver side window is so it ends up covering only the bottom half of the left side of your face if you’re average height.

I purchased a 2025 Explorer and previously owned two 2022 Explorers. The car has been completely reliable over this time. Never have I had any malfunctions or software errors. The driver assistance features have worked wonderfully and reliably even in heavy traffic. The 2025 Explorer improves upon the prior version in numerous ways. The interior is very high quality. I love the ambient lighting and soft padded surfaces. The sound system is great. Blue Cruise works very well and smoothly. And the engine has ample acceleration. The biggest improvement is the technology. The infotainment is easy to use, vivid and works reliably. I am honestly surprised by the bad negative reviews. I guess you find that with every vehicle so it’s not fully surprising. I test drove numerous vehicles and surprised at how inferior they are - even the highly rated Telluride. This vehicle is a top choice which I highly recommend for the features and reliability.

Unsafe Unreliable Features

The vehicle is beautiful. Great massage seats. However, the dashboard and touchscreen black out or freeze while driving, starting up or parked. Started after one month. Now it's up to 4-5 times a week. I've had this car 3 months. Long term there are potential problems. It's not resolved and Ford is overwhelmed with the amount of vehicles with the same issues. It will take 4-5 weeks to fix and no loaner vehicle has been offered. All buyers should be aware.
