Great vehicle
Bought this used with 27k on it in 1995, AC compressor died at 60k, no issues with gauges and the radio still worked when I sold it this summer with 106k on it, now with the economy the way it is I wish I had kept it! You can't go wrong finding a used older Explorer. New ones are too big! Lost their nimble driving charecteristics.
good little truck
This sport utility has been a great dependable college vehicle. I have put about 70,000 miles on it and only had minor repairs, despite being quite hard on it.

Great since day one!
I've owned this car since day one. Bought it in late 1993, and has been great to us. In 1997 we took it to VA from CA and it was great in the snow and rough terrain. Brought it back to CA in 1999, mechanic I took it to messed up the engine at 50k so we had to have it rebuilt. It now has 91k on it and I drive it as a spare car, but it can go for weeks without being driven and it still goes strong, and starts right up! Design is flawless, shows you what a real american car is all about. Interior is perfect, nice, simple, and comfortable. Drive-terrain: I wish it would have had a 4.5L or 5.0L V8, the 4.0L V6 it has is under powered, and the 4spd Pinto transmission is weak.
What a great ride
I live in Northern BC Canada and we have quite cold winters here where temps reach -40c. This vehicle had started great and drives very well in the snow and ice. It's too bad this truck does not have a little more power. Still is great for long drives and seats 2 adults and three young kids quite comfortably. Corrosion protection is awesome and touch button 4wd works great. AC and heater both crank and sound system is excellent
Most reliable vehicle I've ever owned
Overall, a terrific vehicle that has taken me faithfully for 13 years and 150,000 miles from Canada's Yukon to New Mexico - and a lot of rough places in between. I've hauled scuba gear, sea kayaks, mountain bikes, fishing boats and moved three houses with this vehicle. I've even slept in the back of it on many occasions. It has never failed to start and never let me down on the road! Now that's MY definition of a great vehicle. Still with the original engine and transmission; it has needed very few parts. Only in the last year has it needed a new A/C compressor and now a new radiator. Other than that, just routine replacement parts (batteries, tires etc). Still driven daily.
