Financing FORD through their repairs sho
TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION!!!! My Explorer is averaging one TRANSMISSION every 35000 miles. While talking to other Explorer's owners and repair shops, I'm one of the luckier ones. FORD knows they have a BIG TRANSMISSION PROBLEM in their Explorers. It seems that they are too embarrassed to admit it and as long as their TRANSMISSION last their warranty they are happy!! What is really funny, this time, FORD wants to sell me and install another company's transmission. I wished they had done that two TRANSMISSIONS ago. Buyers beware. For now I'll just keep on pushing. Think My Explorers Days Are Numbered
I bought Explorer 21/2 yrs ago with 114000 mls . The transmission had just been replaced everything worked great no leaks. at 136000mls took it on a long road trip broke down, TRANSMISSION again had the front seal repaired cost $500. today at 150000 still having transmission problems, mechanic says these tranmissions are notorious for having problems, radiator needs to be replaced, ac n/o longer works, electrical problems, have replaced starter and other routine maintenence.change the oil every 3000 miles no problems there. we have some rust but in the upper midwest that is to be expected.its a great car for daily driving but wont be taking any more road trips.decent for 150000mls 12yrsold

Oldie but a goodie!
I bought my '92 4wd used in 2015, so it was already an old-timer, but with only 98k miles. I STILL love it! Cheap on gas, cheap to insure, easy to park ANYWHERE & no challenge on ice, snow, etc. Beautiful, comfortable interior, great red trim & pinstriping on the snow white body. I even love the roof rack which I have had absolutely no need for! Still only has 138k miles & I expect many, many more! Only downside? Don't laugh...'tis true...I gave a really, really fat friend a ride home one night (maybe 400-450 lbs.) She had a HECK of a time crawling up into my Explorer & she managed to break the passenger door handrest off the door panel while trying to leverage herself up into the seat! THEN--FACT--She was so wedged in that we actually had to cut the seat belt to get her out. I haven't replaced either one yet. Just sayin'...

after 11 years
Rides like a hay wagon, sits rattle, no pick-up, parts are made very cheapt
Four wheel drive not worth it
Not only to I agree with the above review citing TRANSMISSION problems, but I was recently informed that after about 100,000 miles the head has a tentancy to crack due to poor manufacturing. Repairs for this are over $3000, and this was on top of a transmission problem last year and a fuel injection probelm costing over $400 the year before. I rated the confort as fair, that is, when the seat was not falling backward due to a broken screw so far within the seat, it woudl need to be replaced to fix the problem. If you're thinking of buying an Explorer, any year, please look at a Pathfinder or a Toyota.
