Used 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Consumer Reviews
Great car so far
I'm a Ford fan, and still own a Bronco, Bronco II and just sold my Lincoln. Test drove Toyota and Honda - no comparison. Sport has power, good handling, tight construction, nimble steering, good extras. Dealer gave a great price. Don't need 4 dr anymore. I'm having fun with it. A little clunky to look at but so are all the other SUVs. Can tell mine from a mile away and that's a plus.
Love my little 2 door 3003 explorer sport
Ive been driving mine every day for 4 yrs and 50,000 miles. Just hit 200,000 miles last week. Havnt had any engine trouble. I get regular oil changes, keep it clean and its been real good to me, very reliable. In that time i have had to replace brake pads twice, replace all rotors and now I have to get a new caliper for the front. It needs new rear shocks as rear end is starting to sag. I dont like the fact you cant tow anything. Literally noone can or will rent you a trailor for this car and ive needed a trailer a couple times but was crap outa luck. 4x4 has been great in the snow driving to work while many others are stuck on side of the road or at home. Overall I love it.

I don't hear much about mechanical issues
I don't drive my vehicle hard by any means yet I have had numerous brake problems, ex. rotors and calipers replaced on a vehicle that was only two years old at the time. I have had a windshield leak in the drivers side corner which the dealer could not seem to fix. My brother actually took it to work one day and fixed it for me. I have had the rear wiper motor quit after one year and I barely used it. I hear squeaks and rubbing all the time when I am slowing down to stop yet the dealer cannot find where any noise is coming from. Buy another Ford, I think not! And this was the first brand new vehicle I ever purchased. Older models certainly were made better than the stuff out there now.
built ford tough
i owned two explorer sports in 98 then went to a f150 to big for what i need bought a 2002 monte carlo ss what a cheap peice of crap traded in on a 2003 exp sport xlt this is my third one. i love it its a very well built vehicle.i bought the silver birch metallic with medium/dark flint two-tone leather.the 4.0 v6 with 3.73 axle moves this truck with ease and stops with ease with the big 12" brakes. handles very well for what it is. the 101" wheelbase is a little short so ride does suffer a bit. but interior is very comfortable w/heated lumbar seats that slide up easy for back seat passengers. shift on fly 4wd is excellent for bad weather.
My best ford yet
Tow a 19' boat often and is easy to maneuver at any ramp. Best suv Ford since the Bronco II....my Bii has 206,000 miles on same drive train, no oil use and still get 20 mpg.
