2018 Ford Expedition XLT 4dr SUV (3.5L 6cyl Turbo 10A)

I purchased my 2018 Expedition XLT from a friend at the local Ford dealership. Within the first ten days of ownership I experienced my first electrical problem when the entire center console went black. Then the rear view mirrors would start to "dance" (folding in and out) whenever I tried to adjust them. Then it began switching driving modes on its own (Sport, Eco, etc.). One day the heated steering wheel came on by itself, then the A/C. The seat would adjust its position all on its own while I was driving. About two months into ownership we placed the car in reverse and the four wheel drive system engaged. Then the TCM (transmission control module) began malfunctioning and the vehicle began shifting so hard it would bounce your head off the headrest. There were so many issues like this with the vehicle I can't list them all here. The dealership replaced computer modules, the "brain," all of the wiring harnesses and the transmission and they still couldn't fix the problem. Ford's tech experts couldn't fix the problem. During our year and a half of ownership the car was in the shop for a total of six months. I eventually hired a lemon law attorney to help me negotiate a settlement with Ford, but their lawyers stonewalled me for six months. They refused to respond to any of our communication, correctly assuming that I wasn't rich enough to afford the attorney fees needed up front to take them to court. Eventually I had to settle for a puny payout from Ford and the dealership bought the car back from me as a trade-in as a sheer act of mercy. I lost thousands of dollars. My Ford Expedition was the absolute worst quality vehicle I have ever owned and Ford has the absolute poorest customer service I have ever experienced.

We have about 16K miles on the 2018 Ford Expedition Limited 4WD that we bought last year. I love driving it on the interstates. It isn't as much fun to drive around town but it isn't really a problem either. We needed something with a lot of interior space which the Expedition has. Not long after we bought it, we took a 700 mile trip with five adults, a large dog, and luggage. There was plenty of room for everyone. The seats were comfortable and the younger adults enjoyed it's wifi capability too. I don't mind the engine auto stop/start feature but it's nice that it can be turned off with the touch of a button. The 10-speed transmission is as smooth as butter. The lane keeping assist is interesting. I use it more often than I have it turned off. We do tow a trailer from time to time but haven't had the chance to use that capability with it yet. We traded in a 10-year old GMC Envoy Denali when we bought the Expedition because it was becoming a maintenance problem. We also have a compact sedan which we used for our daily around town sort of driving. We use the Expedition for long trips.

We traded in a 10-year old GMC 4X4 SUV a couple of months ago for a 2018 Ford Expedition Limited 4WD. It is big and handles more like a truck than a sports car. We had full-size conversion vans when the kids were growing up so I don't mind the "big" feature. Then we switched to SUVs (Chevy Blazers, GMC Envoy). We've taken the Expedition on one long road trip so far with five adults and a dog, no one complained about the ride. The passengers gave the wifi hot spot a workout which worked fine. The adaptive cruse control, lane keeping assist, and the rain sensing wipers all worked as they should. The ecoboost provided plenty of power for highway driving and the 10-speed transmission was as smooth as butter. My wife is the first to complain if the seats aren't comfortable and she really likes the seats in the Expedition. The infotainment system was easy to use. Great sound. We've got a little sedan for most of our trips around town but we needed something big that can pull a trailer for longer trips. I looked at all of the larger crossovers plus the Tahoe/Yukon. The Expedition is perfect for us. The price will set you back if you haven't been in the market for a big SUV in a while. We got an OK deal from the local Ford dealer. Haven't had any reason to take it back for service yet. I told my wife that she didn't need to take the key fob out of her purse to unlock the door. Just touch the handle and it will unlock for you. She thought I was playing a prank on her. She made me walk around to the other side of the building to see if I was telling the truth. This may be her favorite feature. I'm still getting use to the whole "keyless" feature too.

Our 2018 only has 70k miles. We're on our 3rd cam phaser, both twin turbos have gone out, and we just had to have it towed to the dealer for a new set of problems. Perhaps this particular car is a lemon, but I will never buy another ford.
