so-so
I've had the hard for about 5.5 years and have gone 100,000 miles with it. Overall the car has been good- but then again I've done all the maintance. The past 2 years though the car has started to have problems at this point I've put in over 3,000 and the car never seems to run right. It was a good little car but now it seems to be on its last legs.
Spring's 'Scort
I just bought a used 1996 Escort. It was a steal and the mileage, 40,000! This simple and economic and RELIABLE car gets me places. I see a lot of elderly people driving around here in the 80's Civic hatchbacks and other subcompacts, so I'm guessing that this particular Escort was one of those "elderly cars," being operated within the warranty as long as possible. This one's gonna last me a long while, I know it. So, if there's a 96 Escort out there for sale, - don't be a fool - buy it. It's the last of its kind. Great mileage, decent looks, easy to maintain.
Dependable
This car won't die. It has had a few minor expectable problems, such as brakes, tires, battery, etc. But the engine is tough, the mileage is great, an it has NEVER missed a start in it's 8 years of life. I am now looking for another one for my son, same year. I know what to expect from the Escort.
Very Reliable Car
I bought this car brand new in 1996. It had 12 miles when I got it, and now has 110,000+. The only thing I ever had to do was keep the oil changed. Once I hit 110,000 miles, I did replace the timing belt and fan belt, but those are the only mechanical problems I've ever had. All in all, it's been a super reliable car.
Going and going and .......
Bought it hoping to keep for a year, but after three it is still running without any problems, other than oil changes and basic maintenance.
