Used 2001 Dodge Viper Consumer Reviews
More fun than a barrel of monkeys!
After looking at several high-performance vehicles, I was drawn to the Viper GTS. The roar of it's mighty V10 brought back memories of the muscle cars of old. The car has proven to be wicked fast, very comfortable, and with supermodel looks. NOT for introverts, fans will swarm you as though you are a major celebrity. Celebrities: Forget blending in. On the track it performs like no other car. Corvette who? You will not be able to wipe the smile off of your face when you own a Viper.
Dodge Viper GTS
Super fast car with excellent handling. Much more refined compared to my 1996 RT-10. Ive had a viper since 1998 and still own one today (2004). Never have any problems. Service is very affordable. Not much out there than can keep up.

There can be only one!
This is not a car of creature comforts. This is a race car for the street. Sitting down in the cockpit youll note the absence of such luxu-items such as cupholders and power seats. 6 white digital gauges present the car's vitals. The exterior design has to be the most radical and beautiful form a car designer could imagine. The snake head visage of the front fascia, then flows up and back to meet the twin- bubble cockpit canopy. Be prepared for the magical effect the Viper has on crowds wherever you go. No other car will dominate the attention of those around you like the Viper.
2000 Dodge Viper RT/10 = WOW
This car is not for the faint at heart and should not be considered as a daily driver. This is a piece of American History, a true American exotic car which will hold its own against the European exotics. If you are not used to attention or want privacy then you should avoid this car as it will draw attention as people have swarmed over my car and I have been stopped so people could take pictures of the car. The car does have flaws especially in the interior but once you hit the throttle the one word emerges "WOW" and all the flaws are forgotten. This car is my weekend getaway, were all life problems are forgotten at the turn of the ignition.
A few facts for you
This car is not an easy car to operate. The viper was made to do 3 things. Go like hell, stop well, and corner well. Luxuries like traction/yaw control, heads up displays, and even an awesome radio are not part of what viper is about. If you want those things, go buy a corvette! Nothing turns heads like the viper, so expect a lot of attention, especially from kids. Acceleration takes practice to not break traction. You must learn to press the pedal not stomp on it! If you get a flat tire, plan on a flatbed because the car cannot be towed and I didn't trust the donut you get for a spare. Buy a used rim and put a tire on it. Finally, watch out for the law, because they will be watching for u!
Not for sale at ANY price...
I have owned the car since new for 6 years now. Eevn now, after all that time, the power and handling of this car still amazes me. This car IS NOT recommended for the faint of heart, posers and Wusses - I recommend a Ferrari for those people.
Viperiffic
Pure Adrenaline Rush from first sight to each fond farewell. I have to share this car with my wife as she loves to drive it too. Dream car with affordable price.
Buy One!
I bought this car last summer and have loved it. It's my weekend car, but my wife and I drove it on a long trip and it was very comfy. Huge power, huge attention, lots of fun!
I knew it!
I knew what I was getting when I bought it. For those of you who want a Vette don't buy a Viper. This car is fast, rude and no it doesn't get good gas mileage. I thank god for all of it. It's worth putting gas in every few miles. The looks on peoples faces are worth an academy award. The Corvettes I've owned would hide in the corner when this car goes by. I am highly pleased with this beast. The gts-r wing and ground effects makes this ACR look like a hot wheels car. So if you are man or woman enough, buy one, and don't whine about the gas mileage or ride. My wife loves it.
My GTS
I find my Viper to be the perfect cure for today's cookie cutter vehicles. The exterior design is as elegant as it is outrageous. More car companies should be so bold as to take such a chance on applying creative design elements. That said, the interior pays a slight price for maintaining the aggressive outer appearance. The drivers footwell is perticularly tight. A small price to pay considering a quick stab at the throttle forgives all.
LOVE MY VIPER
I bought mine new over 24 years ago. I love it every time I drive it. These cars are not a finesse car, not an orchestra on wheels, they are a brute brass ,straight line band from middle America. Fun classic style. I have had more than one other popular American sports car owner pull up and say "that's what I really wanted". I haven't done that one yet. That isn't why I bought it. Just glad to have mine. It's not a creature comfort car, yet is very comfortable. When ya hammer it, they "scream out loud". Between 2500-3500r's in second gear it is a pin job, now that is fun because if you are nice you can keep the tires from launching. I think that may have been where the saying comes from? They are a no BS car that does exactly what you think they should and want to do. Can't hurt them, unless ya curb or stack 'em. Iacocca, possibly, did his best work when he unleashed Tom Gale and his team on this project. Time and HP has caught up almost 20 years later. For a great "experienced" gal now, no one laughs at her, she is still my prom queen...anytime. All quality and style. I just had it gone through completely at 42,000 miles after 22years. She runs like new. GREAT CAR!!

Just an $80,000 Dodge..
This is by far the worst car I have ever owned. The car is beautiful and fast, but that is where it ends. Dodge's customer service and dealerships are the worst. After getting caught in a rainstorm during a 5 hour trip and having the seals replaced 6 times, I was told by Dodge "don't drive the car in the rain". Battery constantly dies...replaced three times...was told by Dodge..yeah, they have a heavy drain...the owner (of the dealership) has the same problem..just unplug it (invloves taking wheel off). Melted exhaust manifold, plugs, and wires at 19k...told by Dodge "these cars run hot"..door panel repeatedly falls off...all this from an uncomfortable and tempremental car to begin with!
Vipers Rule
This is my 2nd Viper. I purchased a 1994 RT/10 in '97 and enjoyed the car both on and off the track. Track experience was with the IL Region Viper Club of America. Which included drag racing, autocross and road racing events. My most recent Viper is the '97 Coupe. Much more refined, better handling, more power, and better aerodynamics. I have installed about $15k worth of aftermarket to increase performance. This includes BIG brakes, alum. flywheel, short shifter, hi-ratio roller rockers, smooth tubes, headers/catback exhaust, 3:55 gear, rollbar and fire extinguisher. Car is still street legal, good manners, and all amenties such as air, pwr wndows, stereo, etc. Run 11's in qtr!
awesome power
great machine with loads of power and best handling ride i have ever driven. You have to drive it to believe it.
Viper is a fun toy with a great look.
If you’re looking for a year round car in Chicago winters, this isn’t it. Cockpit is tight but consistent with the feel of the ride. Somewhat spartan but nonetheless fun and a head turner for the price on older ones around circa 2000. If you’re looking for an alternative to the Vette, this might be the one.

Go Topless
Absolutely the best topless modern muscle car on the road. I look forward to each chance I get to drive it and always get out with a smile on my face.
Raw!
2 decades later and this car is still a rock star! Without a doubt, one of the most underrated and underpriced supercars out there. Edmunds value calculator estimates at $25k. LOL. Going rate for a 20k mile Blue and White GTS is almost double that which is less than 50% depreciation rate in all these years. Great resale value! Forget about the overpriced GTRs, Lambos, etc which will not be as timeless of a design as this Viper. Would you really think a GTR was cool if it wasn't as fast as it is. Lambos would still be cool even if they were slow but one would think it was way faster than it was for the money. With the forged internals, in this particular model Viper, there's endless amounts of horsepower available with adding turbos and superchargers while costing tens and thousands dollars less. I purchased this vehicle to enjoy for myself then realized how much attention and admirers it still gets whereever it's driven. Dodge essentially put a race car on the road and included it with only the essentials. The A/C and power windows were just an added bonus. I rated the survey as well as I did because when you purchase a car like this, gas mileage, luxury, spa comfort is not a concern. The icing is, values will only continue to increase while expressing being proud to be an American!

Faster than I expected
The car will rip the road out from under you if you don't respect it. It is so responsive it is hard to drive at first. It is hard not to push down on the pedal and let it rip. You do not have to race anyone to prove anything, the car is fast and they all know it. After owing my Viper for five years it is still a thrill to drive. It feels good to even wax it and see the body lines and stripes glisten in the garage lighting.
Sleek Snake
Beautiful, sleek ferociously fast millennium muscle car. Very limited Millennium Edition with Snake 530 Package.

LETS GET IT ON!ooofa,ooofa,KABLAM!
love this vehicle,so does the rest of the world.? else compares? The most bang for the buck re; pricier sports cars and its American.I don't expect it to be a Cadillac Fleetwood 4dr as far as comfort goes.Anyone must realize that before purchasing,I hope.one should not expect it to be a Honda Accord when it comes to service or reliability issues either.I believe all citizens should be provided one through a constitutional amendment.I would never pay more for an import that has less visual impact and weak performance, just because it's made in Germany or wherever. And I'm of Bavarian descent.USA all the way baby! What a car the RT/10 is.Impress yourself!!I want a GTS/ACR too!!
a rush to your senses
Only thing you can say is WOW! What a RUSH! and with all that power very easy to drive. Only thing to worry about is the other cars straining for a closer look (and wanting you to get on it) And the feeling of supremacy knowing only those that pass you are doing so only because you let them.
The good, bad, and ugly.
Bought my car 4/02. Took 3 months to wipe the grin off my face. By 9/02 it had been in the shop more than 30 days, and I've now filed for the lemon law. Build quality and comfort are atrocious, but I still love driving it every now and again. Loved owning it, can't wait to get rid of it.
One of the best cars out there!
This car is the ipitimy of the cars on the road, short of modern Ferrari's and Lamborghini of course. But how many of these cars are on the road though. The Viper is the same, with only roughly 1500 units a year. But this car is a blast to drive. And you can leave for a short trip in it without someone yelling or almost breaking their necks to get another look. Contrary to magazine reviews, this car is quite confortable as a daily driver and a very easy car to drive.
Still the most desired car I've ever wanted.
I've been dreaming of owning this car since it came out when I was in high school. Back then I had a Dodge Stealth RT/TT. This is truly a timeless classic car that did not disappoint. After a few hundred miles it's an absolute monster. Its brutal clutch pedal, brakes, runs hot, hates going slow, traffic or around stop and go town/city driving. It's a lot to handle on the street but its everything i expected it to be. Buying a 22 year old Dodge will have its problems. rubbers are worn. Plastics will fail and some maintenance will be required. But fear not the Viper community knows how to keep these snakes in top running order and most maintenance can be done yourself with some DIY videos. Highly recommend owning this timeliness piece of American automotive history. I plan on keeping this car for a long time. Yes its dangerous and my advice is to get new tires and stickier the better. I went with Nitto NT555r2 drag radials on rears. They hook like crazy when warm.
