Anything but this car
This car is an absolute mess. I bought this car my senior year in high school, and it has been nothing but a headache. I bought it used from a guy, and within two days the thing was overheating. I replaced the whole coolant system myself, only to find out that it was the head gasket, so I put in a new engine. Then it was the struts that I had to replace. Then it was the ball joints. Then it was the control arms. Then the battery which do I even dare to say that the dang thing is under the wheel well on the driver side, so you have to take the wheel off to get to it. After 6 months of tampering with everything, it was okay for a while until the electicity started to go out. Both windows on the passenger side don't go down, the driver side window went off track, and now the power steering is even acting up. The car only has at this point 160,000 miles. After all of the repairs, I paid 2300 for the car and then another 2000 to fix all the crap, and Ill only get about 600 for it. Interior design is nice. Very roomy. But in the end it is not worth it. Invest into a different vehicle. Please. For your own sake.

Safest car on the market
Well I don't really know if its the safest but when I got in an accident with my dodge stratus, it saved my life. The car took the impact in all the right places and the driver and I walked away just fine. If you could see the picturesof the accident, you'd be amazed. I'm buying another one.
Stratus still going strong
I bought 2003 SE 4 Dr in July 2005 for $9,000. It had 54,000 miles on it. It now has 118,000 miles and I had to replace a tie rod and a blower motor in the 4 years that I owned it. Other than routine maintenance, oil changes, brakes.timing belt, I have had no major problems. This car is fun to drive and I usually get from 25-28 miles per gallon. I have the 2.4 engine. I am looking now to buy a 2006 and keep this one as a second car. This car is light brown and I will try to find a low mileage red one next.
its a c+ rating at best
Fun to put it in corners w/ 16" wheels the road ride is stiff like sporty vehicle, nice. Glass all around few blind spots. I have problems with it that Dodge can't find to fix.
Frustrations
I bought the car in October of 2002. Picked it up w/ the shrink wrap still on the car and 0 miles on the odometer. I like the car and the styling, but it has become a maintenance headache. 77k miles, and I've had to replace: rear struts, rear brakes, rear strut mounts, transmission solinoid, coolant overflow, front bearings, rust repair on door and on body, and trip computer on top of normal maintenance. The car from day one has also had a fantom ground issue in which on occasions it will: not lock the doors, sunroof stays open, dash lights go bright, cylinder 5 won't fire, speedometer acts up, etc. And most resently the torque converter has started acting up. I'd be cautious w/ the RT.
