Used 2001 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Quad Cab Consumer Reviews
Ram
The Ram is a overall good truck, its reliable, gets me were i need to go and gets me unstuck through lots of places. The only problem is The dash cracks really really bad and the trim around the gauges.. other than that its a nice truck.
best truck/worst gas mileage
I bought this truck after owning a Chevy 4x4 extended cab with the 5.7 engine. I absolutely love this Dodge but hate the fact that it gets worse fuel mileage than my 92 Chevy 4x4 got. The only other complaint is that if I don't use at least 89 octane fuel it knocks like a bunch of bolts in a coffee can.
Nothing but RAM from here on....
I'm in a tough business. Oilfield. I put about 40,000 miles on a truck each year. I've tried every thing...Ford, Chevy, imports. Used to be a born again Chevy man. But Chevy has really sucked the last few years so I switched. I'll never look back. Dodge has really turned out an excellent product. This truck stomps any GM I ever had. I have 65,000 on it now and still is tight. Most of that is rough dirt and lease roads. This thing is a TANK.
Dissapointment
My second RAM (first was a '97) I was hesitant to go with another RAM but fell in love with this 2001 on first site. BAD MISTAKE. Even more problems with this vehicle than the first. In the shop 7 times in the first 4 months. Electrical Problems, VERY poor mileage and I drive mostly highway with little stop and go and rarely over 65. 11-12mpg at best even with a K&N filter. OFF-Road Package bites. Truck creaks, rattles, vibrates. About to replace front bearings AGAIN. Tires are ~215/ea to replace (17") BEWARE
Great truck, bad dealer & ball joints
I love the truck, in spite of the fact that 15mpg isn't obtainable if you drive 75% on Interstates. 18mpg on sticker (5.9L) is possibly a simple lie. I took delivery after the dealer did a "safety inspection" and found all 4 ball joints had deteriorated leaving the joints open to sand and dirt incursion. In addition, all four tires were abraded near the inside bead due to the 245/85R16 tires being too large for the truck ($800+). The ball joints need a recall and replacement with joints that can be lubricated (figure on $900+). I have a bad back but the truck is a great ride! The front seat is comfortable althought I will probably replace the bench with buckets.
