I love this car!
I can't get enough of this car. I've owned it for a little over 6 years and now have over 170,000 miles. It still runs smooth as it did with 65,000 miles and I've never had an issue with the car other than regular maintenance. I've changed the timing belt, water pump, clutch/fork, spark plugs, oil, and cam shaft sensor twice, battery and tires. That's it! All those things would need to be changed on any car so I would say this car is extremely reliable. It's never once left me stranded, and I don't drive like a grandma either. Speaking of which, the performance of this car is amazing. My car is still stock and I've beat everything from ls1 camaros, to evo's and sti's.

Still a fast car.
Lower control arms last about 30,000 miles. Clutch fork and pivot ball last about 60,000. Calipers and wheel bearings went around 80,000. Clear coat starts peeling about 7 years after production if vehicle parked mostly outside. Other than that ZERO problems! Currently replacing struts, rubbers, bushings etc at the 15 year mark.

Hate to say it.
I have seen nothing but good reviews and thats why I bought this car. I have put 7k on it. Turbo leaks are infamous. The tranny is a headache also. Many many people report tranny issues and I'm one of them. This car is a blast to drive but I feel like its going to fall apart anyday now. It has a stubborn transmission and shifts like crap especially in the cold. Maybe I got unlucky.
It just so happens..
When a sports car enthusiast spends $40K on any performance car, then additional $10K on tuning, functionality and looks, he does not want to be overtaken while accelerating on a highway onramp. But this is exactly what happens when that "sports car" is lined up with this SRT-4. I will put this car against any $40K+ ride any day, and rest easy knowing that I paid more than 50% less for showing him what my rear looks like. Why? SRT-4 told me to do it. No really - car wants to be driven fast fast fast. I Tried to explain that to the authorities too.
Badest little machine ever
I love this car. I installed the Mopar Blow off, and it's extremely fast. The interior is awesome and it will stop on a dime. Expect to go through a lot of tires. It's hard to restrain yourself when with that much on tap. It handles pretty good but needs a little negative camber up front to handle better. Trunk is huge and useful and the back seat lays down easily. For the first 10,000 miles I got 17 MPG. after the engine got broke in it pulled to near 27 on the highway. Dodge asks that Mobil 1 full synthetic oil be ran in it. Other than that I've had no qualms with maintainence. If you're buying one, get maintainence records. On a turbo car ensure that the oil changes were done
Good car for the most part
Well what can I say, is faster than I expected. For the price is worth it for the most part. I bought my SRT about 5 months ago. It had 27k miles on it. For the first couple months it ran good, but I started to notice oil leaks. I took it back to the dealer. It turns out to be the oil pan. That's what they said the first time. Well I've been to the dealer more than six times and they still can't fix that leak. Oil pan has been replaced twice. From what I hear these cars have oil leak problems. My SRT is at the dealer right now. It's the fastest under $20k but if you are thinking of buying you better get extended warranty..
I have 90k on it
I have had this car 4 years and still love it!!! I commute to work 84 miles every day. I have over 90K miles on it. I have NEVER raced it or beat it up. Even so,it DOES get expensive to maintain. The front end/ control arms and bushings wear out (@60K), synthetic oil changes are more expensive, the brakes cost big bucks to replace, the viper seats are SO comfortable, but they are poor quality and the vinyl cracks. Tires are expensive to replace. Shifting isn't smooth. Contrary to most Dodge products, I have very little oil leaking even after 90K miles. I have driven from NJ straight through to MO, MPG has NEVER been better than 24 MPG. Still, I love this car no matter what.
2004 Dodge Neon SRT 4 ROCKS!
I bought this car new in 2004. It has been the most reliable car I've owned. Cost of repairs and maintenance has been very minimal, as most of the repairs I've been able to do myself. I've changed the oil every 3 to 4 thousand miles, and have hit 253,980 as of Dec of 2018. This car is easy to fix, and parts are readily available from dealers, local shops, and Rockauto. The performance is awesome...0 to 60 in 5.4 seconds, corners well, great gas mileage, and is a great platform to modify to add horsepower and performance. Stock horsepower levels were awesome to begin with...230 HP. Some owners have modified their SRTs to 3 or 4 hundred horsepower. The SRT 4 is a lot of fun to drive. The one thing I could say is the engine noise level is a little high, as their is no muffler, just resonators. Shifting is ok, although you will need a new clutch about every 50 to 70K miles, even if you take it easy the whole time. If you buy a used one, be careful...many have been owned by young drivers who have ruined them by lack of maintenance and racing.

Wish it was a two door but...
This car is more fun than a barrel of monkey's. The only problem is all the kods want to race you. The car's handling is above average bur sprung softer than my previous ACR Neons. The quality of construction is much, much improved. Fit and finish is excellent. Huge spoiler takes some getting used to as it blocks rear view. The major plus is that wonderful engine. Wow! Oh, the seats are tight so if you are larger than you should in girth save yorself the trouble and order the R/T seats with the side airbags.
Has served me well for 67k miles
I bought this car new in 2004. I've driven it ever since. I don't put as much mileage on cars as do other people, but 9 years and 67k miles can do a lot. The car is incredibly roomy on the inside, and easily fits four. Though it's not great for road-trips, as it doesn't have cruise control. But boy is it quick. It doesn't handle corners well, and has a giant turning radius, but in a straight line it's hard to beat for the price. Other than that, it's just a normal car. Nothing too special about it.
Power monster
Car is a power horse, flies like it had wings or should
FAST
Bought this car site unseen on the recommendation of Mopar God Rick Ehrenberg. Huge leap of faith that paid off BIG TIME. Never regretted anything. Except maybe the upgrade to Goodyear Asymmetric tires, because the car is now twice as fast in corners and the fun factor is diminished. Need to drive at extremely dangerous speeds for same thrill. Car will accept full throttle upshifts without problems. Wonderful warranty. Minor turbo problem resulted in complete assembly replacement. Worn syncros, likely due to excessive driver exuberance and fatigue, resulted in warranty rebuild. Total cost of this service? $100! No better warranty possible! CV joints remain in good condition despite abuse.
1 fast car!
fastest little car on the block!! move over big block.. i just hope the tires last one year.thank you dodge you have 1 great car.....
Sleeper
I was totally sold on this vehicle by the different car magazine's that did features on it. I traded-in a 2000 Mustang GT that was putting out around 320hp to the engine and I'm looking forward to modifying the SRT-4.
HOT HOT HOT
Im 39 And I Have To say Dodge is Still King Of the Muscle cars what a Bang for your buck at 20,000 grand and to think with just a little tweeking and peeking you can make it go even faster
awsome car
handels great nice suspension
SRT MINE
Well the best thing about this car is it is a sleeper. It looks like a neon but woah watch out it has power of a race tuned machine. 0-60 in 5.6 seconds, great gas mileage if you keep your foot of the gas. all around good car.
AWESOME RIDE!!!!!
FUN, FAST, easy on the family, and has more than enough room for my family of four. great on both gas mileage and fun. doesnt matter if you are young or old this car is sooo much fun to drive. I love driving this car, my family test drove one for two days we felt it had more than ample room for all of us and our things. great fuel economy with performance of a v8 engine. this car wil be with us for quite some time.
Had a neon before? This is way different
I am going on one month of ownership and this vehicle handles like a champ! It outperforms all cars under 25000 and most cars under 30000...barring the handling of the miata.
srt4 fun factor
the srt4 is a very fun vehicle. The seats are a bit too much and the exterior is very appealing to the public. The overall feeling of driving this vehicle is very exciting and I look forward in driving the srt4 everyday.
Excellent!
I would highly recamend this car to anyone wanting to have fun!! It's extremely fast, handles great, and get's plenty of looks. I have no major quables except that I would not recamend anyone with over a 37" waiste to get the stock seats. There are huge seat bolsters which are awesome if you fit. It has some wheel hope if ran hard and wheels start to spin. I'm gonna get some new harder engine mounts to help limit that though. other than that great car and lot's of factory upgrades!
Love my SRT-4
I owned some muscle cars when I was younger and I think this little Dodge is every bit as much fun to drive as any of them were. The acceleration is incredible for a 4 cylinder engine and the styling is a real head turner.
The best bang for your buck
Buy this car. That's all I can say.
I paid how much!
As a previous owner of an All Wheel Drive I was skeptical that this car could deliver the grin that I got from my previous car. Boy was I wrong! It only took me once to roll onto the throttle and hear the front tires howl did I realize that this was serious. The reports I find are mostly on the '03 SRT-4 and they all say how wonderful the car is. Granted she's no Evo, but it's a close second and with the right goodies added from Mopar it may rival cars in a class above. Overall, supercar for little cash. Maybe the American car companies can build with the best the world has to offer.
AN AQUIRED TASTE
After driving the car now for a month, It still surprises me with it's power and roadhandling capability. Turbo lag is non-existant and the car never stops pulling.
I love my SRT-4
Fastest car EVAR! But it really is quick. And quicker when you tinker with it a bit and install some of the avalable MoPar mods. Best bang for the buck on the market.
srt4
dopest car ever! so fast for so cheap, you cant find a cooler car in the market for this kind of money, or even 5k more!
dodge neon
I have realy enjoyed my dodge neon. It has been a very good car for a wonderful price. There are only two things I would change about it: the car needs a bigger gas tank and the interior of the car need to be changed.
Modern day muscle car
This is by far the most fun car I have ever driven. The power is unbelievable and the suspension is very tight while only being a little harsh. The brakes bring you back down to legal speeds in a hurry, which will be necessary if this car is driven like it shound be. The steering is quick but very heavy and a bit on the numb side. Being 6'6" I could use a little more headroom and legroom. It's not quite as roomy as my previous car, a Ford Focus ZX3. The heavily bolstered front seats are actually really comfortable while making sure you don't slide around when taking that "suggested" 30 mph off ramp at 70 mph. Best car buy ever.
A nice looking fast car for the price
The SRT-4 is a very fun car to have. It is a very fast and nicely designed car for the price. It gets a lot of attention on the street. You can put a little amount of money into it to increase the power.
S2000 KILLER!!!
i bought this car 1 month ago, then, i got really surpirsed about this car. it is FAST, COMFORT, and CAN BEAT MOST CARS ON THE ROAD! my friend got Honda S2000 and that was cheap freak. i raced with BMW M3 Coupe and beated by little gap. but M3 driver was shocked about my srt-4 can chase him that thight. i plan to replace turbo to large one.
I love this car!!
Ok, I had a 1994 Dodge Shadow 5sp for 10 years....at 238,000 miles, it was done. Without even driving this car, I bought it and drove it home. IT IS A GREAT RIDE!!!!!! And the turbo lets you accelerate when you need to. It is a great car, safe, tight, fun. I just bought the car a month ago, not 2003.
srt-4
Just purchased it 2 days ago and have 190 miles on the odometer. Very fast, although i HAVE YET BEEN ABLE TO SPIN THE WHEELS (maybe the LSD will not permit that). Car is very comfortable, and I love the racing seats. Brakes stop excellent. Paint is almost flawless, but the sound system could be better-price is GREAT!
SRT-4
GREAT TO DRIVE.HAS MORE THAN ENOUGH POWER TO PUT YOU BACK IN YOUR SEAT. HANDLES GREAT EVEN ON THE BANKS OF HOMESTEAD RACEWAY.
Blow Away Others-Not Your Budget
I bought this vehicle after doing a lot of research on the internet. And you know what? They were right! This IS the most bang for the buck out there and a quality vehicle to boot. It's track or street ready right from the dealership and there is a ton of aftermarket items available to let you break the speed of sound.
2004 dodge srt-4
this car turns heads and is more roomier than it looks and im 6 ft 1 in tall.i got the optional seat with the side airbagsbecause the viper type seats didnt fit my frameand there more comfortable anyway.I have owned all chrysler hipo cars.63 ply 426 maxi wedge, 68 rr, 70 440 6 pak challenger 73 340 duster, and i fit this car better than some of them.
i love this car
It is very fast and fun to drive. The design is amazing, it has the same seats as the dodge viper. It has a 70,000 bumper to bumper warenty which for a turbo charged car is very rare. It has great handeling and a cool look. I promise you will be happy with this car. It has a very sporty and zippy feel to it but it also it has plenty room for all sizes. Plus for the price, it is unbeatable. able to beat any car in it's class and can out do many cars that are in the upper classes. I rate it a 10!!!
King of Bang for the Buck
What a great little car! Stuff a 2.4L Turbo, heavy duty trans and limited slip diff underhood, then add a good suspension, different styling, and viola - the perfect FWD performance deal. I've been getting about 27 mpg after the engine break-in. No problems to date. Exhaust is a bit loud, but I kind of like it. It doesn't drone on the expressway. Handling is darn good for a FWD car, and brakes are terrific. It has the Kicker/Livin Loud stereo, and sounds very good! I would prefer to be able to turn the sub up a bit. Can't go wrong for the money!
Hurry, the Korean replacement is coming!
Bang for the buck? How about blinding nuclear flash for 25 cents? A bulletproof twincam I-4, superstrong transaxle (built in NY, originally designed for turbodiesel Graz-built minivans!) wrist-size halfshafts, beefy brakes, "lasts forever" Quaife diff, real Viper seats, for $20K. Runs 13.8 dead stock, 12s with easy bolt- ons. Remember, these will be built for the rest of '04, a few months of '05, then the party's over. The next geneartion will be a Mitsu/Hyundai conglomeration. Ugh. The last real Mopar from Belvidere, IL. He who snoozes, loses.
it soars
I recently bought the Neon and it is the most comfortable ride. It has a great audio system. when I rev it up, the car seems to soar on the highway. I was concern in buying a neon, but I think I chose a great car at a great price.
"Let's run em!!" MOPAR OR NO CAR!!!
At first i wanted an MS3, they're great cars. Only problem is, they're as plentiful and as common as roaches!! Every1 i know has on and it sucked for me in making my nxt performance decision. I looked at the cobalt ss supercharged, but then i remembered my brother had 1 and i was always told to stay away from civics. so the nxt logical choice was the srt-4. I can't tell you how glad I am to be the owner of this car. IT IS AWESOME!! picked mine up, she was stock. added a few things..(Mpx exhaust,, BIG front mount, greddy turbo timer, AEM intake, and AGP wastegate) and now she's unstoppable. I eat stngs, comaros, Z's, WRXs, GTIs, MS3s for breakfast!! I can even hang with GS vettes. Great car!!
hot for the price
try it you will like it
Poor Man's Viper
Went to the dealer ship with no intention of purchasing a vehicle for myself.Read the specs on different vehicles available. When I saw the specs on the srt-4 my heart started racing. I saw a red one on the lot and went and looked at it and liked what I saw. When the sales person came back I mentioned that if they had one on the lot in a different color I just might buy one. Well it just so happened they had a one in electric blue. It took just one test drive to convince me that this car was all it had promised and more.
Best Car Ever Owned
I bought my SRT4 in June of 2003 and since then I have put 12000 miles on it and it is still holding up strong and believe me I drive my car hard. This car for a 4 cyclinder turbo really gets the job done!! I have showed up 2003 Mustang GT's and especially my favorite are the 5.0's they hate to see me pass them ;-). But for the money I spent on this car and what it can do there is nothing like it for the price and not only that I don't see anyone with my car. I LOVE BEING THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS ONE. But to end this on the best note, DODGE FINALLY WOKE UP AND STARTED TO MAKE SOME DETROIT MUSCLE AGAIN!!!
Thumbs up
Very practical for a family car, but has performance that screams. We average bout 25 MPG. I've owned 25 cars over the past 6 years (not all new), including several muscle cars and high performance imports, and this is head over heels the most enjoyable, invigorating ride I've ever been in. The radio is awesome, the noise is very tolerable and the space is very roomy- the back seat will not knock your knees at all! The trunk will also hold 2 dead bodies (hopfully no fruition there).
A R Pocket Rocket
This is flat out scary- a real pocket rocket! Reminds me of Carrol Shelby in his prime but sounds like the muscle car of the 60's. Seats let you know you are in a real sports car. Everythng in its size and class just watches as you go by. Not for the timid!
Mistress for an elderly man
That's it! This is gonna be buried with me.. No squeaks or rattles Twenty g's, performance options abound, as much road presence as an Enzo, faster than a speeding bullet, corners as if on rails, mileage of a Fit{ told the wife that was the only reason I bought it}. 65,000 miles and no trouble at all. Stage three is impossibly, perfectly tuned. Suspension options add more grip than is needed. Of all the cars I've owned in my short 72 years on this ball of mud, this car is the is the snottiest thing in my price range ever.
Can go faster for cheaper
This car land Dodge smack in the middle of the "Tuner" market. In a scramble for cheap speed, some of the other manufacturers have forgoten just that. For example, your Subaru's wrx's and your Mitsubishi's lancer evo's. You may be able to go faster, but you wont be able to go faster for cheaper. There isnt a car out there in the $20k range that even compares to this little pocket rocket. If you find one, dont hesitate to buy it, as that would be the best buy on the planet. Dodge has also given it one of the longest warranties out there. 7yrs/70k miles. Lets see the competition top that..... Go american muscle......
SRT-4
Car is a blast to drive. When you get into it and feel that turbo kick it, you will probably need new pants. Seats make it very easy to take corners fast with the side support action. Yes the stereo system is not state of the art. But you have that exhaust to listen to.
My SRT
I have had this car for about 6 weeks, and I am loving every minute of it. Dodge really knows how to design and bolt a car together. The power is awesome. The interior is better than I expected on a economy car. The car looks awesome.
